Paper Heart
You look so quiet yet so deep
I wonder how far till I can reach you
Like an ocean waiting to be explored
Like a diamond waiting to be mined
A far away dream that I once saw
But now couldn't remember
I'm still waiting for you
To open your heart to me...

Yao hurried to the funeral where he promised to be present a long time ago. The sky was tainted gray and dark clouds threatened to shower upon its gloomy rain onto the depressed people.
Finally reaching the place, he took off his shoes and went in.
The funeral hall was crowded with many people in black, some mourning while some just giving their condoloscence, with a framed photo of a man placed in front. Yao looked around.
No sign of her.
Letting out a deep breath, he ran out of the funeral home and searched for her. He looked in the lawn, outside the gates, back in the store room, but still couldn't find her.
Walking around in distress, Yao suddenly realized he didn't look at one place. He quickly headed that way.
The sky had finally burst into heavy rain. The streets emptied immediately and the sunless day got even lonelier and colder. The Chinese man ran on the empty street, his footsteps splashing onto the wet concrete. He was drenched, but he didn't care.
Finally, he found her.
(Y/n) sat on the wet grass on the riverside, hugging herself while the rain poured down on her.
Yao sighed and went up to her. He undressed himself of his black coat and carefully placed it on top of her. The young woman flinched in surprise but when she saw him, her heart returned to its steady pace.
Gently smiling at her, Yao sat down beside her. (Y/n) watched, speechless, as he carelessly sat there, water dripping from his wet hair and clothes.
"I'm okay, aru. Don't worry about me," he told her.
Her gaze softened as the the young man put his hand on top of hers, interwining their fingers and passing on whatever warmth they had to each other.
Looking ahead at the river, they both stayed quiet for a few more minutes. Every moment passed felt like a bliss to (Y/n), who earlier had to leave the funeral hall because of her heavy heart.
"Yao..."
He turned to her.
"I'm doing alright," she finally said with a half-hearted smile.
Yao didn't say anything. He knew very well that she was anything but alright, but chose not to say it. He knew her for a long time to understand that (Y/n) kept too many things in her heart and suffered alone.
The rain poured hard, soaking both of them to their bones. But none of them bothered to move.
She let out a sigh. "I was not that close to him anyways...but when I saw him in the casket..."
She stopped. Yao pulled her into his arms and lightly stroked her back.
(Y/n) had been suffering through depression since a long time because of her strict father. She even tried to take her own life many times because of him...But somewhere...deep down, she just wanted her father to love her. And Yao knew that.
"Cry, (Y/n)..."
She looked up at him. Yao's eyes were tearful, not from the rain but from seeing her trying to hide her pain.
"Cry, please, aru..."
A tear fell down her cheek, followed by a few more. Soon, tears started streaming down her face as she leaned against Yao's chest. He deeply embraced her, placing his head in the crook of her neck and consoling her.
Yao knew her heart was shattered. No wonder she came here by the riverside, where she used to come for walks with her father when she was young.
"You will heal soon, aru..."
"Y-Yes..."
The young couple embraced each other under the rain, promising to be stronger for one another. The heart may be fragile as a paper now, but with time, it will heal.
~~~~~~✧~~~~~~
Your tears are as precious as your soul
Ones which I swear to protect with my life
Even if I'm not near you
I will always be there to cherish you
To whisper my vows
To hold you in my arms
So will you allow me to heal
Your paper heart?
