School
"Hurry up woman!" he yelled as Hinata didn't come out of the house, and they were going to be late. What the hell was she doing? If she didn't come out in a minute, he swore to God, he'd drive off without her.
Hinata appeared at the wooden doors, saying something to Mikoto as she ran out of the house towards Sasuke's car. She opened the passenger seat and slid in, panting.
"What the fuck took you so damn long?" he asked, irritated.
"Nothing. Drive along please."
He said nothing else and drove towards school. God, he was never ever driving a girl again. The driving Hinata around part reminded him of the school blog's post.
"And just so you know, there's this post on the school blog deciding if we're a couple or not." Sasuke said, watching the road.
Hinata's immediate thought went to Sakura. What would she think? Would she think Hinata betrayed her?
"Did everyone find out about...?"
"No. Not yet." He said, knowing she was referring to their engagement "They just think something's going on."
"Thank God." she said more to herself than him.
Huh, being with him must be real bad for her, he decided. Good. The feeling was mutual. "Also, Temari said she was going to kick your ass if you missed the final practice." He passed on the message.
"Right." Hinata said again.
They drove to school with Hinata humming and Sasuke decided he'd let her play the radio in the future than listen to her.
They stepped out of the car together. "Okay, so here are our jackets for practice." Hinata said as she picked up the jackets they wore over their basketball uniforms.
"Whatever." He said as he began walking.
She followed him into the school building. She noticed the people whisper as they took the sight of them both walking in. Hinata decided she did not care right now. She had many other things to worry about.
Sasuke walked to his locker with Hinata by his side. He saw the girls looking at Hinata with contempt while the boys gave him dirty looks. He almost smirked. Almost.
He opened his locker as Hinata did the same, to take out her material for literature. "Okay, let's go to class." She said, waiting for him as there were only 5 minutes till class began.
He raised his brow in amusement. "I mean, if you want to." She muttered, looking away. He nodded and she took that as her cue to wait. He took out his notebook and some other materials before starting to walk, Hinata by his side.
"Eh-I don't think these girls like me." Hinata whispered.
"Yeah, don't accept food from any strangers for 2 to 3 weeks. Also make sure to change your locker combination every day." He instructed with a smirk, getting the desired reaction. Her face paled and she looked at him to see if he was telling the truth. He put on a serious look and she decided he was serious.
Hinata decided she hated this school. "You're way more trouble than you're worth. I think I'll stay away from you in school now." She said to him.
He didn't react to her words, just kept walking. Hinata was doubtful if he even heard her. They walked into class where Hinata was immediately tackled by Sakura and Ino.
"Hinata! I missed you so much!" Ino hugged her, cutting her supply of oxygen off.
"N..noted." Hinata said, trying to pull away.
"Hey Hina. How are you now?" Sakura's emerald eyes gleamed, indicating she was happy her friend was back.
"I'm good Sakura. What about you guys?" Hinata asked, smiling back.
"Oh, same old, same old." Ino said, waving her hand dramatically. Naruto and Kiba entered the classroom just then.
"Hinata!" Kiba exclaimed, his sharp canines on front view.
"Kiba-kun. What's up?" Hinata asked, shaking hands.
"Man, it's good to see you again." Kiba said.
"It is." Shino spoke out of nowhere, making everyone jump again. "Shino, quit doing that." Kiba said, as he had just let out an unmanly scream, accompanied by Naruto, now blushing.
"Heh, I've only been gone two days." Hinata said, sweat dropping at her friends.
"I know. It was a long time but we were patient. Believe it" Naruto said proudly. Hinata smiled. It was good to know so many people cared for her.
"God, practice is going to be amazing today. Hina's back!" Ino said loudly.
"Ah, Ms. Yamanaka, I'm sure we're all glad, but could you please return to your seats now?" Kakashi's voice sounded.
"Good morning sensei." Hinata said, smiling and returning to her desk, where Sasuke had been sitting for some minutes.
"Okay guys; resume your project ideas and everything. You guys still have today." Kakashi instructed opening his orange book, making everyone excited. He was going to be busy.
"Didn't he finish a book yesterday?" Kiba thought out loud.
"My God father is the author" Naruto announced, grinning. He had even gotten extra marks for his little service.
Everyone started the work with their partners. Many people were still unsure about their ideas, some had not even begun and some were already done with the ideas starting the actual project. Hinata and Sasuke had also not started yet, because she was sick.
"Okay Sasuke-kun, let's begin our project." Hinata said as she turned a little to her left to face him more. He was already looking at her, serious.
"We have to write a children's story book. We'll use some ideas with these themes I wrote. We can detail them and give the stories morals or something." He said, moving his notebook forward.
Hinata furrowed her brows as she started reading Sasuke's neat handwriting and his notes. She nodded her head in approval. "These will do. We'll just think of a few more themes before starting the work on them though." She said.
He nodded and they both started to think, occasionally writing in their notebook (Sasuke's). Hinata looked at Sasuke while he was thinking. He was tapping the pencil against his lips, like a normal teenager would, his face was concentrated on some thoughts and he looked really handsome.
She was supposed to be thinking, not looking at her hot partner, she mentally scolded herself. As she finished writing the themes, she turned to Sasuke.
"Let's see them now." She said. He shrugged. As they both read the themes, they realized they had gotten some pretty decent topics to write about.
"That's fine. Now what about the elements we want to bring in the stories? The writing style?" he asked.
"They're for kids so they should be cheerful, optimistic and happy with some moral." Hinata said, answering happily.
"That's bullshit. They should be realistic, straight to the point and practical." He countered.
"Real life is harsh. Let them be happy." She said, frowning.
"Well that's the truth Ms. Optimism." He said.
"Sasuke-"
"Life is not a bed of roses Hinata." Sasuke said, now a little annoyed.
"They can't all be bitter stories! They're supposed to make you feel better and give you hope." Hinata said.
Sasuke almost slapped his forehead. Why? Why was he stuck with her? He was going to counter her when the bell rang. Already? He glanced at the clock. He didn't realize the time had flown this quickly.
"We'll work on this on Monday. The library. The second last period, that's free" He said. She nodded as they gathered their things.
They walked to their lockers with their respective friends and Sasuke didn't pay attention to her or see her until the end of the day. Practice.
________________
Hinata was so glad to be with her friends again. Being sick had sucked. The school was so full of life and laughter...and fan girls prepared to kill her.
She huffed as she remembered the blog again. She had read the post herself. She had wanted to kill the author. How dare someone make speculations like that about her and Sasuke?
She walked to the locker rooms with Ino and Sakura rambling and her agreeing to everything, not really paying attention.
"Let's change. Now that Hinata's back, I can finally look forward to practice. Karin was seriously getting on my nerves." Ino sighed as they walked to their lockers.
"Huh, the red-head? Why?" Hinata asked. Karin and Sakura were arch enemies, something about competition regarding Sasuke. Karin had never really interacted with Hinata though.
"Yeah. She thought she was good enough to take your top position in the pyramid formation." Ino said, rolling her eyes and beginning to change.
Hinata also busied herself in changing. "Did she really?" Hinata asked.
"Yeah. Nearly drove us crazy." Sakura said, shuddering at the memory.
"Was she even good at it?" Hinata asked, slightly put out because the top position required delicate balance, a lithe figure and training. Everything Hinata had, to put it simply. Ino was on the top of the second Pyramid that formed.
"No way. She sucked. That's why she gets the second level of the pyramid." Ino grinned as she pulled on her cheerleading dress and her jacket over it. The girls had agreed to wear jackets to walk inside the gym because Temari said they distracted the boys too much.
"Yeah." Sakura agreed, pulling on her jacket as well. Hinata put her jacket over her body, which did a little to hide her figure. She wished she did not have such a developed figure sometimes.
"Dang, the jacket only makes you look hotter." Ino sighed as she observed Hinata with a wishful look. "Tell me about it." Sakura said sighing.
"Get a move on losers." Karin said, walking over to them. She adjusted her glasses and narrowed her eyes at them. On her sides were Amy and Kasumi, her friend, who were also total bitches.
"I'm the captain of this team Karin." Ino said as she stepped forward to glare right back.
"You're not acting like it. And who knows, that might change." She smirked evilly.
"What the hell do you mean?" Ino asked, her gaze challenging Karin. Hinata noticed how intimidating Ino could be if she wanted.
"I only needed to give a hint. Now if you'll excuse us, Ms. Bossy bitch is waiting." Karin said, referring to Temari. Sure, she was bossy but Temari was their friend.
"She's our friend." Hinata spoke before either Sakura or Ino could say anything.
"Oh, so you don't like me calling your friend bossy, slut?" Ino and Sakura gasped at Karin's words while Hinata's gaze hardened.
"I don't know what you're referring to, but the only slut I see here is yourself." Hinata said, hands on her hips. What the hell was Karin's problem?
"I'm referring to you trying to steal my Sasuke. So back off slut." Karin said.
"Fuck off Karin." Ino said while Hinata made her stay back and said "How about you make me stay away?"
"Oh I will." Karin said, walking away with a haughty smile.
"Gods I hate her." Sakura said. "You're not alone." Ino muttered darkly. Hinata said nothing but made her way out of the lockers towards the gym.
They walked inside with smiled and the boys grinned at seeing Hinata back. Suigetsu even wolf whistled. Naruto slapped the back of his head and Suigetsu looked away.
"Why don't they start practice until we arrive?" Sakura asked, sighing.
"Because they have to ogle the girls?" Ino smirked.
They walked over to Temari who glared at the boys, who started their practice. "Hi everyone." Temari said "Hinata, good to see you finally. I swear I would've killed you if you missed the final practice."
"Yeah, I know." Hinata said, smiling sheepishly.
"Good. So today want to finalize the lineup for the introduction of players." Temari said "You're supposed to represent each player; you're going to back flip across the stage for assigned players."
"You remembered this fact now?" Sumire raised her brow.
"We could not finalize it until Hinata arrived you dolt." Sakura said. Sumire backed off. Temari smiled.
"Okay, when they announce our team name, Ino, you will go first as the leader of cheerleading squad. Next is the captain, Sasuke...."
"....which I will be presenting of course." Karin said flipping her hair back.
"Do not interrupt me Karin, and no, actually Hinata will be doing that, as the best in her pyramid." Temari said, narrowing her eyes.
"Hinata? What the hell bi-I mean Temari? I'm way better than her." Karin scoffed.
"I'm sure you are, however my decision is final." Temari said and turned away.
Hinata did not have any particular problems with the lineup as Temari continued with Sakura for Naruto and so on. Karin however, looked like she wanted to strangle Hinata with her bare hands. She decided she better be careful.
Ino told them to start practicing. Hinata did the usual stretches and the girls practiced their moves. They decided to keep the pyramid for the last.
The boys were done with practice and some of them were still in the gym for their own purposes (yeah right, they were watching the girls).
"Okay, we'll wrap up the practice; do the pyramid one so we can all go." Temari instructed. Ino nodded. The girls got into their groups.
Hinata, Karin, Sakura, Sumire, Amy and Misaki were the first pyramid. Amy, Misaki and Sumire were the bottom level; Karin and Sakura were the second level while Hinata was the top.
They got into positions. Ino and her group formed the pyramid first, which earned them applause from the boys. Next it was Hinata's group's turn.
Naruto was hollering from the bleachers "GO HINATA!". Some of the girls snickered but Hinata beamed. Something Ino and Sakura noticed.
Sumire, Misaki and Amy did backflips in sync and stood with their arms and legs stretched. Sakura and Karin came in next, moving with grace and jumped to form the second level, the arms stretched and ready to hold Hinata. Hinata was last, she did some cartwheels (earning whistles from the bleachers) and jumped up, doing a summersault and landing on Karin and Sakura gracefully.
Suddenly, she felt Karin's arm go limp and her shake her shoulder, throwing her off. Hinata gasped as she felt herself falling. Hinata closed her eyes, calming herself and readying herself to minimize the injury when she felt someone catch her.
She opened her eyes to onyx. It was Uchiha Sasuke, looking at her seriously. "Can't you all even save yourselves?" he asked Ino and Temari.
"Oh my God, are you okay Hinata?" Ino asked running over. Sakura and the rest (except for Karin) also rushed over.
"Obviously. I saved her didn't I?" Sasuke asked, bored.
"Thank you. You can let me down now." Hinata said, blushing a little due to their position.
"No need. We're going to leave now." Sasuke announced to Temari who nodded. "Just be here in time for the match".
"Wouldn't miss it." Sasuke smirked as he turned around and saw the boys looking at him with daggers from their eyes.
"Change and hurry up." He said as he put her down and stalked off to change himself. Hinata nodded and ran off, not ready to face anyone.
Meanwhile, Karin got an earful from Temari and Ino, who threatened to kick her out of the team if she ever pulled off a stunt like that again.
__________
Sasuke and Hinata were driving towards home when Sasuke's phone rang, breaking the silence. Hinata looked at him questioningly while he said nothing but pressed the answer button.
"Yeah Mom?" he asked, paying attention to the road "We're coming home. No. I have to meet up with someone. Right now? We're tired. Fine...the evening." He said as he looked a little annoyed.
"What did Mrs. Uchiha want?" she asked, looking curious.
"She wanted me to take you out somewhere today." Sasuke announced.
"You don't have to." She said.
"Exactly. Apparently she thinks we need to spend bonding time. So you're coming with me in the evening to the bowling alley, where I was supposed to hang out with friends." He said, closing the topic.
"Does this mean I can invite my friends?" she asked him. He shrugged. Not like he cared. She smiled to herself and hugged the notes Sasuke had given her out of his locker after practice.
They drove to the Uchiha compounds soon and they both walked inside in silence. But somehow, the silence was not really awkward.
"Hey kids." Mikoto's voice rang out.
"Hi." Said Hinata while Sasuke 'hn-ed' again. "Sasu-chan, there's mail for you and Hinata chan, your parents want you to call them today." Mikoto informed them, laying the lunch on the table.
"Thanks." Hinata said as they both left to change before lunch. Hinata went to her room, combed her hair and slipped on a T-shirt and some trousers underneath over flat shoes.
She went into the kitchen before Sasuke, who made his way inside in a military green T-shirt over cargo pants. He didn't look half bad actually, Hinata thought.
"So, have you decided where you two are going for your date?" Mikoto asked, while Hinata chewed the potato salad.
"Yeah. We're going to the bowling alley." Sasuke said, looking at Hinata in a way which told her Mikoto should not know there were friends coming too.
"A bowling alley? Don't you think it should be a fancy restaurant? Like, romantic?" Mikoto wiggled her eye brows.
"First of all, we don't have a reservation. Second of all, I don't like fancy hotels. Third of all, we're getting to know each other, not proposing." Sasuke held up three fingers before taking a gulp of his tomato juice.
"Fine." Mikoto sighed "Kids these days..." she trailed off. Hinata giggled at their antics before resuming to eat.
"Ne Hinata-Chan, I was thinking about going for shopping on Sunday?" Mikoto suggested.
"I have to go pick Neji from the airport that day." Hinata said, thinking of Neji. She still had to call him.
"Sasuke can do it." Mikoto suggested as Sasuke growled.
"Uh-no, I can do it." Hinata said, smiling nervously. Mikoto looked at Sasuke but shrugged "Okay then. But don't think you're getting out of shopping." Mikoto said, smiling brightly.
Hinata nodded and kept eating. She noticed Sasuke staring at her with his eyes narrowed. Hey, it was not her fault his mother kept suggesting him to do things for her. Kami, she couldn't wait for this engagement to be over. Now that she knew her fiancé and had an agreement with him, she felt like she could have a boyfriend. Hopefully Naruto, she smiled at the thought.
______
"Hey Hinata." Neji said as he clicked the answer button while walking towards the dorms. Today had been the last day in school of the exchange week and it had been fun. Neji still wished Hinata was here though. Partly because he was worried about her and partly because she would always make things fun for him.
"Neji-nii, how are you?" her soft voice asked. God, he loved her. Even her voice felt soothing, like her soul. Like her.
"I'm good. What about you?" he asked.
"I'm okay too. I'm at the Uchiha compounds." She said, shuffling something in the background.
"Oh alright. Anyways how-wait....what the hell did you say?" he asked, realizing what she had said.
"That I'm at the Uchiha Compounds?" she said it like a question.
Now Neji's brotherly senses were at a high alert. "Why are you there? Is everything okay? Did Uchiha kidnap you? He's so dead. I'm booking a plane to Konoha right now....Kami, where's that katana?" he said to himself, searching his bag.
"Neji! Calm down..." Hinata's voice scolded.
"Will you tell me what's up there?" Neji growled. If Uchiha had done something to his baby cousin, Uchiha was dead.
"I got sick two days ago, Sasuke took me home because my mom called his mom and told her to take care of me. Mikoto san insisted I stay at the Uchiha compounds until you come back." Hinata explained.
Neji's pulse returned to normal. "You're sick? What happened?" he asked, still worried slightly.
"It was just a fever Neji-nii" she said, trying to calm him down.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Neji asked, his voice low and hurt. Did she not trust him? He would've dropped everything to go home to her.
"Because you would have left everything and come back." he was startled by how well she knew him.
"I-" he began when Hinata cut him off "Don't even try to lie Neji."
"Okay maybe...but still..." he trailed off.
"Neji, I'm okay. You don't have to worry." She said and he believed her.
"Okay. You're still coming to get me on Sunday, right?" he asked.
"Bet on it." Hinata said and he smiled.
"Alright then. See you." Neji said. "Bye Neji kun." She said.
He clicked off. He couldn't wait to see her again. He had even bought gifts for her to make up for what happened between them previously. He hoped she would like them. He smiled as he saw Tenten and Lee walking together in the grounds. He walked towards them, still thinking of Hinata.
_______
"Have a nice time." Sasuke heard his mother call out as she always did as he and Hinata moved towards his car, finally ready to go. Sasuke was wearing a jacket over his T-shirt and jeans and combat boots while Hinata wore a mesh jacket over a tank top, underneath she wore a long maxi skirt and flat shoes.
"We will." Hinata called back. Sasuke didn't say anything. He opened the car and sat inside, turning the engine to life. Hinata also sat inside, buckling her seat belt. Sasuke did the same before he set off.
The bowling alley was on the other side of town, where no one would mostly bother him (one of the reasons Sasuke went there).
"Did you call any friends?" Sasuke asked. Hinata nodded.
"I called Sakura but she told me she and Ino were already invited there by Naruto and the other guys." What the fuck? How had the idiots invited girls without telling them? They were so annoying sometimes.
"Who else is going to be there?" Hinata asked, looking at him.
"My friends. Naruto, Shikamaru, Kiba, Gaara." Sasuke named a choice few.
"Suigetsu isn't coming?" Hinata asked. Sasuke shook his head and she didn't ask any further. They were driving when Hinata looked at him with an innocent face as she reached for his radio. He sighed.
"Fine. Just this once. Just because this is supposed to be a date." He said as she pushed the buttons.
"But this isn't a date." Hinata said, smiling as she selected her channel.
"Yeah it is. I'll get you something to eat and you'll tell my mother you had fun." He said; an unspoken or else present there.
"I will." She said "Maybe." She smirked. Sasuke was a little surprised. Maybe he wasn't such a good influence on her.
"What was your mail about though?" Hinata asked after a minute. Sasuke smirked. Oh that was priceless.
"I really like your mom." Was his answer as he took out a packet from his pocket to toss it to her.
She looked confused as she looked inside. "She didn't..." Hinata whispered, horrified. Sasuke's smirk widened.
"Why not? Mom showed my pictures to you." Sasuke said.
"She told you?" Hinata asked.
"I know her." He shrugged. Boy, those pictures had been priceless. The first picture was of a toddler Hinata playing in the mud. Another was of her crying because her dress was dirty, the third was her standing with a brunette guy, both about 15 years old, and another was of her about 16 years old with piercing in her ears, wearing short rebellious clothes.
The last one was of her as a 14 year old girl (kinda cute), holding her engagement necklace, literally stars in her eyes.
"Was that the first time your mother showed it to you?" he asked, referring to the last picture. She nodded.
"Your pictures were way more embarrassing though." Hinata laughed.
"Really?". Hinata nodded at this. He knew that. Suddenly, he thought she looked a little cute. He turned away hurriedly.
"Whatever, I'm not even embarrassed anymore. The last time I was, she was showing it to my first girlfriend" Sasuke said.
Hinata giggled and was putting the pictures back when another picture fell into her lap. She picked it up and stopped. She just kept looking at it.
They had reached the bowling alley, so Sasuke stopped the car and noticed her looking at something. He snatched it from her hands.
"Hey!" she protested as he observed the picture. It was of a 5 year old Hinata hugging a 5-6 year old Sasuke, who was blushing slightly and seemed happy. The picture was candid as none of them noticed the person taking the picture.
Sasuke didn't know what to think. They were standing really happy in the picture, in close proximity and there was nothing he could do about it. He put it into his glove compartment and muttered "We're here."
They both walked into the modern bowling alley. It was pleasant to look at and was big enough. Hinata decided she liked it.
As they both walked in, they were greeted by their excited friends. "Hey Hinata chan! Teme!" Naruto called. Sasuke sighed and Hinata waved back.
"Oi Naruto, quit being so loud." Ino yelled as she hit the back of his head.
"Oww, look who's talking." He snapped. Ino was about to retort when Hinata and Sasuke walked over.
"Did you guys begin yet?" Sasuke asked.
"Nah, we were waiting for you man." Kiba said, coming and bumping fists with Sasuke. "So troublesome." Said Shikamaru as he did the same.
"Ohayo Hinata, Sasuke-kun." Sakura said, smiling pleasantly.
"Hey Sakura." Hinata said as Sasuke cast her one glance and half a nod. Naruto jumped onto Sasuke's back, rubbing his head.
"Let's start, believe it!" Naruto grinned happily. "Where's Gaara though?" Hinata asked.
"He and Temari couldn't make it." Shikamaru replied, hands behind his head. They walked towards the bowling balls and selected their rows for playing.
"How about boys vs. Girls?" Ino challenged "Loser has to buy us dinner."
"Learn to count Ino. There are four of us and three of you. You're just going to lose and blame it on a missing team mate." Kiba said, crossing his arms.
"No we're not. We're way better than you anyways." Sakura snorted, looking grim.
"I don't think I'll play. How about I sleep instead?" Shikamaru suggested.
"If you didn't want to play why did you even come?" Hinata asked, confused.
"Because he thought Temari would be there." Sasuke smirked. Shikamaru shrugged and walked away.
"We'll begin then. Better be ready to buy us dinner." Naruto said cheerfully. Sasuke, Kiba and Shikamaru smirked.
"We'll see Naruto-kun." Hinata said a little too sweetly. Everyone looked a little spooked before continuing.
"Hinata, do you even know how to play?" Ino asked once they set out to get their balls.
"Yes, I played with Ken and Joe all the time." Hinata said defensively.
"Who?" Sakura asked, thinking the foreign names were kinda weird. "My best friends in the states." Hinata said, smiling softly as she got her ball.
"Let's go then." Ino announced.
Naruto was first, he threw his ball, nearly knocking out all the pins. "Woo-hoo!" Naruto whooped. The boys' score was: 10
Ino rolled her eyes as she rolled her ball, which knocked out only half of the pins. "Take that!" Kiba yelled. The girls' score was: 6
"Let's see you do better!" Sakura snapped, because the boys were leading from 4 points. Kiba threw his ball, also knocking only half of the pins out. "Dammit" he muttered. The boys' score became: 16
Sakura threw the ball with inhuman strength. It hit almost all the pins, breaking them. 3 "Ha!" she punched the air in triumph.
Now the girls' score was: 15. Only one point less than the boys. It was Sasuke's turn. He was really good at this so everyone watched with suspense.
Sasuke smirked, took a deep breath and threw his ball. The ball rolled off, knocking almost all pins out. It left one pin remaining. Sasuke smirked as the score became 27 to 15.
Now all eyes turned to Hinata, who took a deep breath, telling herself she could do it. Hadn't she done it a million times with Ken? Hadn't she won against Joe, the best player available there? She smiled as she took her ball.
She walked towards the row. She took a deep breath. Sakura and Ino were watching in suspense while the boys smiled, knowing they'd won because there was no way this petite girl could win now.
Hinata threw the ball with a slight flick of her wrist, one of the special Hyuga Martial arts technique. The ball rolled off and slammed into the pins, knocking them all out.
Everyone watched with amazement as Hinata stood up straight, blowing a stray hair out of her face, hands on her hips and a wide smile.
"Hinata chan....you..." Naruto managed to speak out while Kiba and Sasuke just watched in shock. Sakura and Ino squealed with joy as the points were equal.
"Where did you learn to play?" Kiba asked while Sasuke muttered "So she's not that bad."
Well, things just got interesting, Sasuke thought as they decided to play a set of games. He eyed Hinata, being tackled by Naruto and Kiba. She was smiling. They would see who won.
