two

Once, the actress's manager found the actress in a depressed state back in her apartment. Broken pieces of glass and droplets, trails of blood leading to the shower room. The manager was traumatized to find out that the actress tried to kill herself. A small, not too-deep cut was between the palms. The actress was crying on the bathroom floor erratically.

"You have severe symptoms of depression, Miss Yu," that's what her psychiatrist said the next two days after the incident. Somehow, she could trust her psychiatrist's calm and soothing actions and words. Her psychiatrist never triggered anything beyond what Jimin couldn't handle, and thank god, Jimin had found herself a good help to seek.

She gets better after that. No more self-harm despite being insanely pressured everywhere. She held her dear life so tight despite crying most of the night. Jimin really couldn't understand herself at this rate. She would turn thirty soon, she understands. But the hate she gets somehow plummets her self-esteem for the worse. She loses her self-worthlessness and it took a severe turn in her life.

Sure, they could laugh all they wanted. Being single at this age might be something to joke around for most people, but for Jimin and her mental health, it is torture.

"Jimin, you are pretty. Find yourself a man, you could literally have anyone, you know?"

"You have never dated? Really? Jimin, that's insane!"

"To get this drama opportunity, you need to at least have a dating life experience, Jimin. Gosh, what should I do with you."

"Are you okay with being single for that long? Jimin, you are getting older, and this won't get any better."

It got even worse when one day, she was shipped with an actor she really really hates. Jaechan wasn't just a douche, he is a woman player. Jimin had nothing to do with him, but she was there, in the paparazzi lens on the wrong day and the wrong time. Jaechan hand is on one of Jimin's shoulders, and by any means, reporters start to write something ridiculously shitty — Yu Jimin, South Korea pride actress dating Jung Jaechan, a well-known problematic actor.

She was pressured in every corner. Everyone questioned her worth, her dignity, how she was able not to feel ashamed. Her job is on the hilt, directors start to question her with mocking questions, and at the end of the month, Jimin comes back to her psychiatrist with a worse dishevelled version of herself.

"Mr. Park, please!" the actress cried erratically on the consultation room floor, hands on her knee. "I feel like dying, I couldn't do this anymore! I feel like dying!"

"Jimin, calm down. You'll be fine," the old man rubbed Jimin on her back. "I have a solution for you, and it might be crazy. It's gonna be a terrible idea, and I might lose my job for recommending this to you—"

"Is it the meds?" Jimin wails, clutching her chest violently. "If it's a meds, just give me fucking tons of it! If you could erase my memories, then do it! I don't fucking care, I want this to stop, please. Mr Park, help me!"

"Jimin..." the psychiatrist sighed heavily for his next word. "I think you need to get married."

"Not you too!" Jimin started to back away from her psychiatrist in disbelief. "Not you too asking me to marry someone shitty that I barely know—"

"Jimin, hey. Calm down, let me finish my words," the psychiatrist said as she reached back to the woman, assuring her with calming words and actions. "It's a fake marriage, Jimin. You don't need feelings to do this. Try to find someone that you can trust. The one that could help you to push away all the bad things. The one that could help you gain back your self-esteem and worthlessness."

"You should get married, Jimin."

*****

As promised, the two plan to elope in front of Minjeong's mother, just right beside the hospital bed, with the beeping sound of a heart monitoring device in the background. The sole conscious witness to their marriage besides the priest himself was Minjeong's older sister.

Taeyeon argued so badly when she heard the news from her younger sister as Minjeong practically lied, saying it was love at first sight, she had been secretly dating Jimin for more than three months now, and there was nothing her older sister needed to worry about. In the end, Taeyeon also gives in for the sake of their mother.

They agreed on eloping that day with three requirements by both parties' agreements. Minjeong had talked them alone with Jimin on a phone call that one night.

First, both parties need to help each other in emergency circumstances.

Second, in case they were caught together in public, both parties needed to act all lovey-dovey to convince them about the marriage.

Third, whether both parties had any personal problems that didn't require the other party to be involved, don't come in between the problems.

The fake marriage literally has no agreements regarding divorce matters. If only they feel like they need to, nor they want to, that they are sick with each other so badly, they could do it freely with both parties' agreements.

It was a simple elopement, with Minjeong in her formal attire, while Jimin was just in a plain white dress. The actress held a small bouquet in her hands as she stared into Minjeong's eyes deeply. They are finally doing this, for real.

"Do you, Kim Minjeong, take Yu Jimin to be your wife? Do you promise to be faithful to her in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, to love her and to honour her all the days of your life?" the priest look to his left.

Minjeong nods her head, eyes stuck onto Jimin's. "I do."

"Do you, Yu Jimjn, take Kim Minjeong to be your wife? Do you promise to be faithful to her in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, to love her and to honour her all the days of your life?" the priest look to his right this time.

The actress flashed her tiny smile, holding tight to the flowers. "Yes, I do."

"Congratulations. I may now announce both of you, wife and wife."

A small smile formed on both of their faces. It was a strange feeling, yet despite all how bizarre and crazy it was, both of them could feel a small hint of happiness deep in their heart for an unknown reason.

The now wives exchanged their rings onto each other's fingers as Taeyeon watched right beside them in tears. Their mother's wish finally comes true, at least.

When the priest asked them to kiss, both of them were greatly hesitant. They didn't love each other. Leave the fact that this is the only second time they held each other's hand. Things were escalating too quickly for them, but they just knew that they needed to make things right, as legal as possible, even though this was just an elopement.

Minjeong slowly pulled her hands off Jimin, cupping the back of the actress's neck gently. Her eyes waver onto the actress's orbs, finding agreement between their intense stares. When only Jimin had nothing to say in return, the soldier leaned in closer and closer, tilting her head slightly to give enough space for her to kiss her bride on the lips, just enough to make them move in sync for a few seconds.

Minjeong didn't hate this.

Kissing Jimin wasn't bad, at least.

Jimin moved her hands on the hem of Minjeong's uniform, letting the soldier lead the flow. After about ten seconds of lips locking, only then they slowly parted away, hand in hand as they turned their body towards the hospital bed.

Between the churn in Minjeong's stomach and the pain of finally being able to let her mother go, Minjeong chooses to smile at the unconscious woman on the bed. "Mother, I'm married now. You can go peacefully now, I'll be fine with my wife by my side."

A tear escaped the soldier's eyes, while her older sister literally sobbed in the background. Jimin could feel how Minjeong's hand started to tremble in her grip, and she was kind enough to offer her comfort, putting her other hand on the back of Minjeong's, grabbing them so tight with soothing thumbs.

Sadly, a few hours later, on the same night, Minjeong's mother passed away.

Nevertheless, Minjeong had a wife like she promised to, and someone to hug on to cry out that night.

*****

Minjeong and Jimin never planned to live together since the very beginning. It's all more to a service or act of kindness to one another, just to be on each other side when problems arise. Well, that's what Minjeong expected herself to do right now.

Jimin had already done her part, marrying Minjeong for the sake of the soldier's mother. But now, she needs to help Jimin with every pressure that is burdening the actress's shoulders at the moment, despite Minjeong still not quite sure what happened.

It is too mysterious. Minjeong still couldn't catch on what exactly happened to Jimin, or what actually made Jimin so depressed that she thought eloping with Minjeong was the only solution, so during her break in field training that day, Minjeong allowed her focus to dive into the world of cyber. The internet took her attention.

She was never really keen on celebrity buzz, nor that she care about it before. But now that she had an actress wife to be devoted to at least, Minjeong needed to learn quite a bit about Jimin.

Why did she desperately need this marriage so badly?

It didn't take long for the soldier to go through most of the articles. How netizens started to question the actress's self-worth. How she is not ashamed of herself. How she is such a slut for being with a douche. Minjeong was totally surprised at every piece of information she just absorbed into her orbs.

Cyberbullying and surrounding pressure got the actress so badly.

"Minjeong," the soldier's attention was pulled away from her phone the moment her captain called for her. "We got an emergency meeting in ten minutes. Be ready," the older man said as he nodded his head towards the woman. Being respectful as always, Minjeong nodded her head. But before the man could completely walk away from her, he halted his steps. "By the way, it is my first time seeing you with a ring. Nice choice, First Lieutenant!" he gave Minjeong a thumbs up.

"I recently eloped, Captain. It's my wedding ring," Minjeong flashed him her small smile. The words 'wedding ring' somehow rang her inside quite a bit, but she tried to push the feelings away. "We tried to make it as low-key as possible. Sorry that I didn't inform you, Captain."

Minjeong had agreed with Jimin on another thing. Despite being public about the marriage without publicly exposing Minjeong's name, Jimin had allowed the soldier to let her colleagues know about them, just in case Jimin might visit the main base more often than she expected. People from the ROKA itself might questioned why an actress like Jimin was there, so they thought they shouldn't lie about it in this case.

"Don't tell me... the news?" the captain paused his words. "Recently there's this news about an actress who got married to one of the ROKA. Is that you?"

Minjeong flattened her lips shyly, nodding her head. "Yeah, it is me."

"Oh my god, Minjeong! Congratulations!"

Minjeong could only smile back to her captain for her gratitude. She really couldn't say much about her marriage, since it is fake. To brush off the topic as it gets heavier for Minjeong that she felt slightly guilty, she hooked her arms with her captain by force, pulling the poor older man towards their meeting room. "Captain, why don't we attend the meeting at the earliest? Let's go!"

"Wait, Minjeong. Hey!"

*****

"We have been informed that the war in Khurasan got worse. About two hundred innocent civilians were killed in three days. The UN had asked ROKA for assistance," one of the generals said in their meeting room. "This week, you could settle up with your families. We'll be headed back to Khurasan next week."

Millions of thoughts were going through Minjeong's mind at the moment. Sure, she just lost her mother a few days ago, so she didn't need to worry about the old woman being worried about her being in danger again. But then, it is different now. She has a wife now.

She got Jimin.

Minjeong wonders how would her wife react with the news.

"We'll send fifteen of our expertise, elite soldiers to help the Khurasan government. We'll split into three teams with five personnel each. Team Alpha, under the lead of Captain Yoon and Second Lieutenant Hwang. Delta, under Admiral Jung and me, myself. Team Bravo—"

Minjeong gulps down. Finally, the moment has come. She knew, her name would be called.

"—under the lead of Captain Lee and First Lieutenant Kim."

Now, how should she tell Jimin about this?

"Oh, and congratulations on your marriage, First Lieutenant Kim. Captain Lee told me," the general said as he softened his voice between their tense topic. The soldiers allowed themselves to congratulate Minjeong for a short second — clapping their hands. But then, they went back to their main agenda.

"Spent your time with your family this whole week, and always be prepared," the general inhales deeply before exhaling heavily. His brows started to furrow. "We could only hope that we would be back in one piece."

*****

Minjeong had promised her wife to have a sleepover at the actress's apartment that night, and strangely, Jimin was excited about the event. She told Minjeong the last time she had a guest sleepover in her house was three years ago, and she said she had good news to tell Minjeong later.

Well, Minjeong hoped it would be really good news, since she got the bad one.

After work, Minjeong tossed her duffle bag into her car trunk before heading straight to Jimin's apartment, still completely in her official soldier attire. A few rings to the actress's doorbell before the door wide open. The actress greeted Minjeong with a warm smile on her face. "Minjeong, hi! Come in."

Jimin suddenly took the duffle bag from Minjeong's hand, startling the soldier as she happily marched inside her apartment. "Please, make my apartment like yours."

Jimin gently tossed the duffle bag on the bed inside her guest room before she went back to Minjeong who was wandering her eyes around the house. "You live here alone all these years?" Minjeong gasped at the interior. The apartment is too big for Jimin alone, will she be fine here?

"I am," Jimin simply answered standing near her wife with both hands on her back. "Have you eaten?"

"I didn't yet," Minjeong chuckled, amused by the actress's good mood. It would be nice if Jimin could be as happy as this every day.

Jimin walked passed Minjeong with a little smile towards her kitchen, pulling out something from her fridge. "I bought some Chinese food just now. Would you be okay if I reheat this?" the actress gently shook the food container of kalguksu she just bought an hour earlier. With a single nod, assuring, Jimin smiled happily and quickly began to act, placing the container into the microwave for her wife.

Minjeong walked towards the kitchen counter before sitting on one of the stools. She examined every Jimin's movements to make her a warm tea to wrap their night. Jimin is strangely an endearing sight for Minjeong, now that she questioned herself. Why in the world that no one want Jimin when she was this pretty?

"How was your day, Jimin? Is everything alright today?" the soldier asked as she pulled off her formal attire, only leaving her white t-shirt on her body before she put her jacket onto the empty stool right next to her.

Jimin smiled once at her wife before the microwave dinging sound brought back her attention to the food, pulling them out carefully. "After the news of our marriage, everything seems to work just fine for me. I didn't hear much mocking voice behind my back," Jimin carefully placed the kalguksu on the tabletop. "Thanks to you, I finally got my first job after three months."

"Thanks to me?" Minjeong chuckled when one hand received a pair of chopsticks from Jimin.

Jimin nodded her head softly, still wearing that same warm smile on her face the moment she took her seat across from the soldier. "One of the movie directors had a pique of interest on hiring me after knowing that I married to a soldier."

"Oh, really?" Minjeong is the one who finally smiling. "You finally got a job, that is great!"

"Yes! It all thanks to you! I've never been this happy for quite a while," Jimin giggled as she rested her chin on her palm on the table. "Dig in. You must be hungry." She smiled so brightly, so happy that the guilt and the burden Minjeong tried to tell her needed to be kept deep inside her mind for now.

Minjeong wants Jimin to be happy. After all the dark clouds and rumbles of thunder in the actress's life, Minjeong at least wants Jimin to be happy with such great news.

She would tell Jimin about Khurasan later.

*****

Minjeong didn't plan to stay long at Jimin's apartment, but the actress insisted that it would be much more convenient for Minjeong to stay there since the main building to ROKA was much closer here rather than Minjeong's house. In fact, Jimin might need Minjeong's assistance with her script reading at home.

Minjeong came home to the actress's apartment the next day greeted by a focus Jimin on the couch. Glasses dangling lazily on her nose while her eyes got stuck onto the paper. Oh, and yeah. Minjeong already knew the passcode to Jimin's door. "What are you doing?" the soldier came in with a heavy voice, terribly tired and drained from today's combat training.

"Script reading," the actress answered her shortly, her eyes still stuck onto the papers, highlighting some important parts with a pencil. "Would you come here right after cleaning yourself? I think I need your help."

Minjeong could only let out a light chuckle at the view. Jimin looks kind of silly in that focus state. Even her eyes never waver off the script. She must be that excited to finally get into acting again. "Sure. I'll be right there for you. Give me a few minutes."

Minjeong cleaned herself up as quickly as possible, tossing her dirty clothes into Jimin's washing basin and jumping into the shower. It only took the soldier ten minutes before she finally came out with a bathrobe wrapping her body. "Jimin, I'm done!"

"Come here, quickly!" the actress shouted from her living room, and as Minjeong walked out from the shower, all she could see was her wife in that exact same position. So persistent she is. "I need you to help me out with this. I'm a soldier's lover in this drama."

Minjeong waves her eyebrows jokingly, taking her seat on another couch right next to Jimin's, "Eheyy, a soldier's lover. No wonder they wanted you so bad," the soldier laughs lightly but immediately stops the moment Jimin stares deadly into her eyes. Oops, wrong move. "Okay-okay, cool. Which one?"

"Here, look at page ten," the actress unconsciously tossing her script a bit too hard that it hit Minjeong on her arm the soldier hissing in pain, her free hand clutching her arm painfully. The script is now on the floor. "Oh, gosh. I'm sorry! Are you alright?"

Minjeong didn't answer her at first, so the actress rolled her eyes teasingly. "I didn't even toss it that hard, why are you making such a—" she stopped her words when Minjeong put her head down, hiding her face and expression, still clutching on her arm. It only worries Jimin even more. "Hey, are you alright?"

Only then did the soldier finally put up her head, "I'm fine. It's just—" a low painful grunt accidentally escaped from her lips before she continued. "I got injured while training."

With that piece of information, Jimin tossed her glasses to the side, jolting up from the couch in shock. "Dammit."

The next thing Minjeong see is her wife already by her side, pulling up the sleeve of her bathrobe to see the pretty fresh scars on her upper arm. It was bandaged just fine, but from the size, Jimin was pretty sure it wasn't a small scar to begin with. "What happened?" Jimin brows only furrow even more, shooting Minjeong her eyes in concern with a glimpse of horror. "How did you get hurt?"

"A private accidentally grazed me with a Glock Knife during training. It's okay, Jimin. You don't need to be so worried about it," the soldier tries to assure her wife. The cut wasn't too deep, it was just to cover the bleeding. "I'm really fine, Jimin. Trust me."

It's not like Jimin didn't trust her wife. She did trust her, Minjeong is a Lieutenant soldier for a reason. A scar like this won't sway nor weaken Minjeong that easy, Jimin knows. Only with what she read just now, Jimin wasn't sure if she could prepare herself for the future.

What she just read, from her script. The soldier (male lead) got stabbed in his stomach by his lover (Jimin) hostage taker. Jimin was about to ask Minjeong how should she react if a soldier got attacked, and what usually a soldier would do if they got attacked; or stabbed. But then...

"I think you need to sleep, Minjeong," is all Jimin could say to drive her thoughts away from the bad things. She pulled herself off from her wife, turned around and walked towards the kitchen.

"How about your script reading? I thought you needed my help?" Minjeong lifted her brows in confusion. Jimin was acting strange out of the blue. "I can help you, Jimin. I would be just—"

"Sleep, Minjeong," Jimin said stronger this time. "I'll ask you for help tomorrow in the morning."

The script written — The soldier (male lead) got stabbed in his stomach by his lover (Jimin) hostage taker, and in the end, the soldier would take lots of bullets to let her lover free. The soldier ended up dead in his lover's embrace — That's how the movie would end.
