Chapter 3: The goddess of Love, Not What You'd Expect
“Not hungry are you...?” Alia sweat dropped as she saw the large stack of pancakes I was having for breakfast.
“Not my fault.” I said in between bites, “I didn't eat last night.”
“Even so you shouldn't eat all that food at once.” Alia said, “It's bad for you. Right, Le-” She turned to Lex, only to see Lex was eating an even bigger pile of food than me. “Oh nevermind…” Alia sighed, sweat dropping.
“Oh,” I said as I remembered something, “Today I'm gonna learn to use magic.”
“Oh that's exciting.” Alia smiled, “Magic may just be my favorite part of this whole school.”
“So you guys know some real cool magic right?” I asked.
“Of course.” Alia nodded, “Here, I can show you a little.” she held her hand in front of my plate. She focused and one of my pancakes floated up off the plate and slowly spun in the air.
“Wow,” I said, “That's cool.”
“Thanks.” Alia smiled, suddenly accidentally dropping the pancake on my head. I frowned at Alia as she giggled at my new edible hat.
“Hey.” Lex said, catching my attention as I took the pancake off my head, “Check this out.” she then put her hands together as an icy blue light shone from them. As Lex held out her hand, I saw there was now a piece of ice in her palm shaped perfectly like a trident.
“Whoa.” I gasped, “Ice magic?”
“Yep.” Lex smiled, “Water's my main element, but I'm also pretty good with ice magic.”
“Man you guys are cool.” I smiled. They smiled back at me.
After breakfast, I went back to Miss Blair's class, ready to learn.
“You've done alright so far.” She began, “Your godly instincts have kicked in and helped you learn armed and unarmed combat fairly quick. However, magic is much more complex than either. It'll no doubt take you a while to understand some of these.”
“I understand ma'am.” I nodded.
“We'll start with a basic fireball spell.” she said, “Magic is more about your mental strength. You have to see the fire in your mind and feel its warmth in your hand, make it real.” She held out her hand, palm facing up. As she focused, a red circle appeared over her hand, then a ball of fire appeared in her hand. She then threw the flame at a training dummy, which immediately caught the dummy on fire. Miss Blair snapped her fingers and the flaming dummy was put out. “Now you try.” She said. I nodded, held my hand out, and focused. Nothing happened, making me frown. I tried again, but nothing happened. I kept trying for a few minutes but I wasn't doing anything. Miss Blair stopped me. “Seems you need a little help.” She began, “So here's a tip. Try chanting the spell you want to perform.”
“Really?” I asked.
“Yes.” She nodded, “Just say fire as you're envisioning the fireball.”
I nodded, and began to try again. This time, I exclaimed, “Fire!” I was surprised as a ball of flame suddenly appeared in my hand, but it didn't burn me. “Wow…” I breathed, “So, chanting the spell helps use magic?”
“Yes and no.” she shrugged, “Technically, it doesn't do anything. But like I said, magic is about mental strength more than anything else. It may be a cliche to say, but you have to believe that you can turn your energy into fire. The chanting helps your mind believe. In time, you will be able to use magic without chanting, but for now this will work. Now get rid of that fireball so I can teach you some more.”
“Yes ma'am.” I nodded, throwing the fireball at a dummy… but I missed and the flame set Miss Blair's desk on fire. I froze in fear as my teacher gave me a scary glare.
After being hung upside down for an hour and getting the worst headache of my life, Miss Blair forgave me and let me down. I laid on the ground as the blood in my head slowly went back to the rest of my body. I let out a deep sigh.
“Now, get up.” She said, “I have more to teach you.” I sighed and got back up. “Now that you've already cast a spell, it should be a bit easier for you to cast others.”
“Well that's good.” I said.
For the next few hours she taught me different spells. She taught me things like a wind spell, an ice spell, and one I really grew to like, a lightning spell.
“Lightning!” I shouted as electricity blasted out of my hand and fried a dummy.
“Good.” Miss Blair smiled, “You're almost ready for real classes.”
“Awesome!” I smiled.
“It's about time for lunch.” Miss Blair said, “You go and eat, and when you get back we'll finish up my teaching.”
“Yes ma'am.” I said, then started walking to the cafeteria. I entered, and went to get a few slices of pepperoni pizza. I saw Lex and Alia sitting at a table with someone else, and the two girls waved me over, so I came and sat with them. The new person I hadn't met before was a guy, around my age with dark blond hair that had a red highlight and a blue highlight in the front, and his eyes were blue. He wore a uniform just like mine, and was eating several different hot foods. Lex was eating her usual pile of food, and Alia was just eating a sandwich and some chips.
“Hey Nano.” Alia smiled.
“Hey.” I smiled back as I sat down with my pizza.
“So you're the new guy?” the other guy asked.
“Yeah,” I nodded, “I'm Nano.”
“The name's Brian.” the other guy introduced himself, “I'm the god of fire.”
“Really?” I asked.
“Well, more accurately he's the god of heat.” Alia corrected, “But yes, fire is his main magic type.”
Brian grinned, holding up his finger as a flame appeared on his fingertip.
“Whoa, that's cool.” I said.
“Hmph, there's nothing cool about this guy.” Lex remarked.
“You say something, water weight?!” Brian snapped, getting a tick mark.
“Shut up you freaking pyro!” Lex barked back, butting heads with him. The two started fighting, punching and kicking at each other, while arguing and throwing food.
“Guess I should've expected this.” Alia sweat dropped, “Considering they are fire and water…”
“A match made in heaven…” I sighed, sweat dropping, "Man that escalated quickly..."
“That's it!” Brian growled, his eyes turning red as his fists were engulfed in flame.
“Bring it!” Lex hissed as water gathered around her. The two charged at each other, but in a sudden flash of lightning, Miss Eden appeared between them, blocked both their attacks, and flipped Brian and Lex on their backs, making them groan.
“That's quite enough!” Miss Eden scolded, “You both know, fighting amongst gods is strictly prohibited in the cafeteria! I have half a mind to punish you both severely for this offense!”
“S-sorry ma'am…” Brian groaned.
“Count yourselves lucky.” Miss Eden sighed, “I have more important business to attend to. Never break this rule again.” then, just like how she entered, she disappeared in a flash of lightning.
“Whoa…” I breathed, “Miss Eden is scary…”
“Only if you break a major rule like they did.” Alia sighed, “Now that you've seen it, hopefully you'll think twice if you ever consider breaking the rules.”
“I can promise you I won't.” I nodded, “So, Brian and Lex must really hate each other, huh?”
“Not really.” Alia shook her head, “They fight a lot, but I don't think they hate each other at all.”
“Ugh, you're lucky Miss Eden stepped in…” Brian grumbled to Lex.
“Oh please, I was about to drown you.” Lex replied.
“You jerk.” Brian groaned.
“Stupid firecracker.” Lex hissed.
“They're not gonna stop with this any time soon are they?” I sweat dropped.
“Probably not.” Alia sighed, “Oh yeah, you've learned to do some magic too right?”
“Oh yeah.” I nodded, then held out my hand, “Fire!” a fireball appeared in my hand as I smiled.
“Wow, that's not bad.” Alia smiled, “But be careful about using magic. Since you use your godhood energy to make it, doing so repeatedly will drain your energy.”
“I see.” I nodded, putting out my flame, “I’ve been wondering. You said yesterday that we're immortal, but from what I've heard, we can die. Doesn't immortal mean we can't die?”
“Well, not exactly.” Alia shook her head, “There's a big difference between being Immortal and being invincible. Invincible is when you can't be hurt or killed by anything, immortal means you can't die by natural means. We gods can't die of old age, and technically we could survive just fine without food or water.”
“Really?” I asked, “Then why do we eat?”
“It's mostly out of habit from our human pasts." Alia explained, "But there is a good reason to eat. When you use up your godhood energy, the best way to replenish it is by eating food. The more powerful the god, the more they have to eat to restore their power.”
“Oh, is that why Lex eats all that food?” I asked.
“That, and she just really likes the food here.” Alia shrugged.
“I see...” I sweat dropped. My attention was brought back to Lex and Brian, who looked ready to fight again. “Hey come on guys,” I sighed, “Stop fighting, you already ticked off Miss Eden once…”
The two stopped as the lights suddenly turned off, all except for one light near the center shining down on a student. This new person was a girl, and she was getting everyone's attention. The girl was surprisingly pretty, with long golden hair and hypnotic green eyes. She was pretty well endowed, and wore a girl's uniform. Except the skirt on her uniform was shorter than the others, showing off her legs a bit more. She was wearing knee high socks and a pair of heels.
“Oh great she's back…” Lex groaned in frustration as she stared at the girl.
“Who?” I asked.
“That's Kat.” Alia said, “She's the goddess of love.”
“Oh?” I asked, “She sounds nice.”
“I hate her.” Lex and Brian groaned at the same time.
“Huh?” I asked, confused.
“Kat’s kind of a bully.” Alia sighed, “She uses her magic to force people to fall in love with her, making them her slaves. She's humiliated most of us with her powers. Don't be surprised if she makes you kiss her feet to boost her ego.”
“That's awful.” I said, “Has anyone tried stopping her?”
“How can they?” Alia sighed, “Any time we stand up to her, she forces us to love her, then humiliates us some more. The only ones she can't use her love powers on are those just as strong or stronger than her. The problem is, she's one of the school’s most powerful students.”
“Really?!” I gasped, “That sucks…!”
“Yeah.” Alia sighed, “Recently she'd left for a mission, but it seems she's back…”
“Lex!” Kat suddenly called out as the lights all came back on. She walked over to us, and I gulped.
“What do you want, you cow?” Lex hissed.
“Oh, so hurtful.” Kat pretended to have her feelings hurt, “You should be more nice to me, like your friends. Isn't that right, Brian, Alia?” she batted her eyelashes at Brian and Alia. I noticed, they suddenly seemed to have hearts in their eyes. Just a moment later, both of them were offering her beautiful flowers they'd made from magic.
“Your beauty is unrivaled~” Alia complimented.
“For you my goddess, I'll do anything~” Brian said.
“What the…?” I gasped. Kat then noticed me. I gulped as she looked at me. She suddenly held her hand to my face, looking me in the eye.
“I haven't seen you before.” She began, “You must be new~”
“Leave Nano alone.” Lex hissed.
“Nano, is it?” She purred, “You're pretty cute~” I blushed a bit at that, “Hey Nano? Can you do me a favour?” she batted her eyelashes at me, and suddenly, my fear of this girl's power was replaced with an overwhelming feeling. I suddenly wanted to do anything and everything to make her happy. Was this love?
“A-Anything for you, ma'am…” I managed to say.
“Could you please get on your hands and knees for me?” she requested, “And don't move an inch.”
“Yes ma'am, thank you.” I nodded obediently. I got out of my seat and got on my hands and knees.
“Good boy~” Kat smiled, then sat on my back and crossed her legs, “Now be a good chair.”
“Yes ma'am, thank you so much.” I said.
“Now, Lex…” Kat smiled at Lex, who was death glaring the love goddess.
“Go away.” Lex hissed.
“Why should I?” Kat asked, “I'm having fun, and your new friend here is a comfy chair.”
“I said, leave!” Lex yelled, “Before I stomp that smug look off your face.”
“Oh I get it.” Kat grinned, “You're afraid I'll make little Nano here my own personal plaything~ just like I did with my boyfriend~”
Suddenly, Lex punched Kat in the face hard, knocking her off me. Her magic must have worn off, because I immediately found myself feeling embarrassed to have been used as a human chair. I got back up as Alia and Brian groaned. Kat gasped as she got back up with a hand on her face.
“You…! You hit me!” She shouted at Lex, “You stupid, gluttonous, whale!”
“Just shut up, go away, and let me eat.” Lex hissed.
“I swear…!” Kat began, “One of these days I'm going to crush your stupid head beneath my feet!”
“Just try, see what happens!” Lex hissed. Kat pouted, holding her lightly bruised face as she left.
“Phew,” Alia sighed, “Thanks for the save Lex.”
“I can't believe she'd actually do that to a person…” I said.
“Now you see why we hate her.” Brian nodded.
“Fortunately for us, Lex is on around the same level of power as Kat,” Alia said, “So Kat can't control her.”
“That's good.” I sighed.
“She'll probably cause more problems soon.” Lex sighed, “Lunch is almost over so let's just go. I lost my appetite.”
We agreed to just go. Lex, Alia, and Brian left for their classes while I went back to Miss Blair's class. My day may have hit a bump with meeting Kat, but I was still glad I was learning all this cool stuff.
“Alright, Nano.” Miss Blair said, “There's countless different types of magic, but the most important type for you to master is your Specialty.”
“My Specialty?” I asked.
“Yes.” she nodded, “While all gods are capable of using most magic types, your Specialty is a magic that only you can use, and it depends on what god you are. In your case, as the god of invention, your Specialty is the ability to control manmade inventions. Cars, computers, phones, they're yours to command so long as you can master your Specialty.”
“Whoa,” I began, “How do I use it?”
“It's more difficult than regular magic, but the same general idea.” Miss Blair explained, wheeling out an old looking television, “I want you to use your Specialty and turn this T.V. on. Command it to turn on.” I nodded and held out my hand.
“On!” I commanded. Nothing happened. “Turn on!” I tried again. The tv remained off. “Come on, turn on darn you!” I shouted at it as I tried again. For five minutes, I tried futily to turn it on from a distance, and I was about ready to break the thing.
“Calm down.” Miss Blair said, “Just take a quick break, calm your nerves, then try again.” I sighed, and sat down. Miss Blair offered me a glass of water, which I thanked her for and drank the whole thing. After a few minutes, I was feeling better and tried again. This time I decided to try something different. I placed my hand on the TV and took a deep breath.
“TV, on.” I commanded, a light grey glow suddenly shining from my palm, and this time, the television flashed on, showing a kids cartoon.
“Good.” Miss Blair smiled, “Now, try and change the channel.” I focused, and the channel changed to a game show. I focused again and it changed to a weather channel. “Well done.” Miss Blair nodded in approval, “You'll be able to control other machines and such in a similar manner. Once you've mastered it, your Specialty will be enough to beat almost any foe.”
“Thanks ma'am.” I smiled.
“There's a ton more you need to learn,” She said, “But for now, you're ready to move on and attend regular classes.”
“Really?” I asked.
“You just need to do one more thing.” Miss Blair nodded, “You need to prove you can handle yourself in a fight.”
“A fight?” I echoed.
“Yes.” she nodded, “I'll prepare the classroom for the match.” she snapped her fingers and suddenly the desks and training dummies were cleared from the room, “Now, prepare to face your opponent.”
“Fancy meeting you here Nano.” A voice said behind me. I turned and saw Brian was my opponent.
“Huh?” I asked, “Brian?”
“Yep.” Brian smirked, “I'll try not to toast you too bad, buddy.”
“Prepare yourselves for a fight.” Miss Blair ordered. Brian held out his hand and in a flash of light, a double edged broadsword appeared. In response, I summoned my sheathed katana and held it at my side with my right hand on the hilt.
“Oooh, so a sword fight then.” Brian grinned.
“Weapons, fists, magic, use all of your assets to fight.” Miss Blair said.
“Yes ma'am.” Brian and I nodded. Brian swung his sword at me. I quickly unsheathed my blade and clashed swords with him. We both swung our swords and clashed, glaring at each other. Suddenly Brian opened his mouth, spewing flames from his mouth and engulfing me. The fire knocked me back, burning badly, but I managed to put myself out and stand back up.
“Heh,” Brian smirked, “Most gods can only shoot fire from their hands. But my Specialty lets me shoot flames from any part of my body.” He suddenly aimed a kick, which shot a fireball at me.
“Ice shield!” I exclaimed, using some magic to form a barrier of ice that blocked the fireball. I sighed with relief, but suddenly, a large fist made of fire broke through my shield and grabbed me. But strangely, the fire didn't seem to burn me.
“In addition,” Brian continued, “I can give my flames substance and control whether or not they burn you.” I struggled for a moment, then aimed my hand at him.
“Fire!” I yelled, shooting a fireball at Brian. It hit him in the face, but didn't do anything.
“Seriously?” he asked, “You're gonna try and use fire to beat a fire god?”
“Lightning!” I tried a different element, blasting Brian in the face with electricity. That did some damage, as he stumbled back and his fire fist disappeared. I landed on the ground and charged at him with my sword. Our blades clashed a few times before we jumped back.
“Heh, not bad.” Brian nodded, “Let's see how you handle this.” He then ran his hand along his sword. As he did so, the blade was engulfed in fire.
“What the…?” I breathed.
“Heh, if you get good at a certain type of magic, you can enhance your weapon with that element.” Brian explained, then swung at me. Our blades clashed a few more times, but he was clearly stronger now. He landed a slash to my chest, then blasted me with more fire. I fell back, groaning as smoke rose off me and my clothes. “Looks like this fight's about over.” Brian smirked.
“No…” I said, forcing myself up, “I'm not done yet…”
“Hey man, don't push yourself too hard.” Brian said, “You've already used up a lot of your magic.”
I looked at my sword and got an idea. I put my hand at the base of the blade. “Lightning, enhance!” I exclaimed, running my hand along the blade. Suddenly the sword was coated in electricity.
“Huh…?!” Brian's eyes widened a bit, “Miss Blair, you taught him how to enhance his weapon with magic?”
“Of course not…” Miss Blair said, also looking surprised, “That spell’s too advanced for beginners.”
“So then…” Brian looked back at me, “You figured it out just by watching me do it once…?!” Rather than answer, I charged at Brian and swung. Our blades clashed several times, flames and lightning sparking off them.
“This is the end!” I shouted with a strong swipe. Brian blocked, but I knocked the sword out of his hand. As his blade fell to the ground, I held my sword at his chest. “Heh… how do you like that…?” I asked, suddenly feeling dizzy. The lightning on my sword disappeared as I collapsed on the ground, suddenly exhausted. As Miss Blair and Brian looked down at me, I blacked out.
I woke up in the same medical ward type area where I first met Miss Eden. My body felt numb and I had a splitting headache.
“Good, you're up.” Miss Blair said, sitting in front of the bed I was in.
“Miss Blair…” I groaned.
“You used too much magic in that fight.” She began, “Your body hasn't gotten used to using magic yet so you'll have to be more careful.”
“So… did I win?” I asked.
“Not quite.” she shook her head, “Brian won since you knocked yourself out.”
“Darn…” I frowned.
“Don't worry, I didn't expect you to win.” Miss Blair said, “Truth be told, you impressed me.”
“Huh?” I asked.
“You used Weapon Enhancement magic.” she explained, “It takes most gods at least a week to learn to do that, and you managed to do it almost perfectly after just seeing it performed once. I knew you were a quick learner before, but that was something else. You've got potential. Tomorrow you'll be attending regular classes.”
“Alright!” I smiled.
“For now, just get yourself a big dinner to replenish your magic.” Miss Blair smiled, “Maybe I'll see you in the near future.” she then left. After a moment, I got up out of bed and started to leave. I opened the door and stepped out, but stopped instantly as I found Kat’s face mere inches away from mine.
“W-whoa!” I exclaimed, stepping back.
“Hey Nano.” Kat smiled, “I saw your fight with the pyromaniac and I gotta say, you were pretty impressive~” She gave me a creepy smile as she stepped towards me.
“Y-you're kinda creepy…” I breathed, “Can you please not enslave me this time…?” It felt weird to make a request like that.
“Oh, so little trust.” She replied, patting my face, “Don't worry, I'm not gonna play with you just yet. But if you can use a complicated spell so easily, you're gonna be such a fun toy to play with~”
My moment of glory was cut short by the creepy love goddess as she giggled and walked away.
“I don't like her…” I sighed to myself. After a bit I went to the cafeteria, where everyone was having dinner. I sat with Alia, Lex, and Brian again.
“And there he is, Mr. Lightning bolt himself.” Brian said as I sat down with a big pile of food.
“So, you used Enhancement magic eh?” Lex asked, playfully punching my shoulder, “Not bad for the new guy.”
“I'll say.” Alia agreed, “Weapon Enhancement magic is much more complicated than it looks. The user has to have good control over their godhood energy, so your potential is impressive. This also seems to imply that of all the magic types, you will do best with lightning and electricity spells. It makes sense, since your Specialty tends to revolve around electronics.”
“Hey I won that fight.” Brian said, “How come he gets all the compliments?”
“Cause you didn't do anything impressive like him.” Lex answered.
“Well it's not too great that I impressed everyone.” I sighed, “Kat paid me a visit and said she was gonna have fun messing with me.”
“What?” Lex asked with a glare, “Ugh, I can't believe that girl. I ought to beat her to a pulp!”
“Whoa,” I held up my hands, “You don't have to go that far for me.”
“Whatever.” Lex groaned.
“And anyway,” I continued, “If you fought her you'd get in trouble.”
“Not necessarily.” Alia shook her head, “While it's against the rules to break out into fights in class or in the halls, Lex could challenge Kat to a duel, in which the teachers would set up the school arena.”
“The school has an arena?” I asked.
“Yeah,” Alia nodded, “Didn't I show you on our tou… oh yeah… nevermind. Anyway, yes it is possible for students to challenge other students to a serious fight, though that fight becomes an event for all other students to see.”
“Really?” I asked.
“Of course.” Alia nodded, “A fight between gods is a spectacular sight, even if it's between ‘weaker’ gods.”
“Yeah.” Brian agreed, “Think of our match earlier. Even though you're a complete noob, our fight was pretty sweet.”
“Thanks… I think.” I shrugged.
“Whatever.” Lex groaned, getting up and leaving the table.
“Okay, Lex really does seem to hate Kat.” I said.
“Of course she does.” Brian said with some food in his mouth, “Kat stole her boyfriend after all.”
“Brian!” Alia hissed.
“What, everyone else knows it.” Brian defended.
“What?” I asked. Alia sighed before she spoke.
“Lex was getting increasingly stronger.” Alia explained quietly, “When Lex got so strong she was immune to Kat’s love magic, that made Kat extremely mad. Out of nothing more than petty jealousy, Kat used her magic on Lex’s boyfriend, making him dump Lex in front of everyone and become Kat’s boyfriend.”
“What…?!” I breathed, “That's… So heartless…”
“Yes, it is.” Alia nodded, “Before meeting Kat, I never could have imagined a goddess of love could be so cruel.” I tightened my fist.
“Lex really should beat her to a pulp…” I said.
“She should.” Alia nodded, “But she's tried to challenge Kat several times, and Kat always has an excuse to not fight. If both parties don't agree to the fight, then there won't be a fight.”
“I see…” I sighed. I was quickly growing to hate Kat too. After eating, I went to my room and tried to get some sleep. I couldn't stop thinking about Kat and what she had done to Lex, my friend. It sucked that she could do something so evil and just get away with it.
The next day came and after a big breakfast, Alia showed me to the regular classes. The classes weren't too much different from Miss Blair's class, but I could barely pay attention. I had something else on my mind…
Not to say I didn't learn anything. I was taught a couple other spells and techniques and such. Eventually, lunch time rolled around and, so I got some food and sat with my friends as usual.
“Hey, you doing alright?” Alia asked, “You seem a bit down. I thought you'd be happier on your first day.”
“Oh, it's nothing I shrugged, “Just processing everything really.”
“Ugh…” Lex groaned in disgust as she noticed something behind me. I could tell by her groan it was Kat, and looked to see her. Kat came in looking smug like I'd expected, but this time she was with a young man, about my age, with short brown hair. Kat was holding his hand.
“Is that…?” I asked, looking at the guy.
“Yeah,” Alia said quietly, “Lex’s ex…”
I looked back at Lex. For just a second, looking at the guy, she didn't seem tough like before. She looked sad, and hurt. But she quickly corrected this, getting angry instead as she stared down at her food. Seeing her like that, my fists trembled with anger. I punched the table hard as I got up, drawing the attention of just about everyone in the cafeteria. I walked over to Kat and her boyfriend.
“Let him go…” I hissed quietly.
“What?” Kat asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Someone like you doesn't deserve power…!” I growled, “You're too cruel to be a goddess… You're a devil…!”
“Is that so…?” Kat got a tick mark, “Let's improve your attitude.” She held up her hand, preparing to snap her fingers.
“I challenge you.” I said, “To a duel!”
Suddenly, the rowdy cafeteria went dead silent as everyone froze. Kat's eyes widened at my challenge and she stopped herself from snapping her fingers. Her surprised expression slowly stretched into an intrigued smirk.
“You want to fight me?” She inquired.
“That's right.” I glared.
“... Pfft, hahahah!” Kat suddenly started laughing, “I've heard of new gods getting cocky and doing dumb things but this is something else! You know I'll crush you in a fight, right?”
“We'll see.” I replied.
“Heh, then I accept your challenge!” Kat grinned, “How about we make this interesting, and have it so the loser has to do something for the winner.”
“I was thinking the same.” I agreed, speaking a bit quiet, “If I win, you have to free Lex’s boyfriend from your spell.”
Kat looked at me for a moment, as if surprised my request. “Oh, is that why you're challenging me?” she started to grin, “Alright, if you win I'll take the spell off. But when I win, you'll have to work as my personal servant for a month. I'll even get you a maid uniform to work in.”
“... Deal.” I nodded, a bit hesitant thinking of her terms, but I was determined.
Kat smirked, “Good. We'll fight after school. I look forward to having a personal maid.” She then walked on to get food. Still angry, but less so, I went back to my table and sat down. Suddenly, Alia smacked the back of my head.
“Are you stupid?!” Alia snapped at me.
“Ow,” I groaned, “What is it?”
“You just challenged one of the strongest students in school to a fight!” Alia hissed. The weight of my choice to fight Kat started to sink in as I realized I was still just the new guy.
“The odds… Aren't in my favor are they?” I sighed.
“Well look on the bright side.” Alia shrugged, “At least you didn't make some embarrassing bet on whether or not you win.”
“Uh… About that…” I scratched the back of my head.
“You didn't…” Alia gave me a glare that said I was possibly the dumbest person in the school.
“Welp,” Brian began, “Rest in peace buddy.”
So, I sighed and got back to eating. I knew I'd need the energy for the one sided fight I'd soon be in...
