I sighed, leaning against the front door that I'd just closed. I kicked my shoes off before pushing myself off the wall, hanging my blazer on one the hooks, I turned to lock my door again. Before I could move anywhere, a knock on the door shook me from my almost dazed state. I pulled it open and was surprised to see J. Daniel Atlas scuffing his shoes on my porch. Hearing the door open, he looked up at me.

"Ellie-" He began but I was quick to interrupt him.

"What're you doing here?" I frowned and he sighed, sticking his hands in his pockets.

"I wanted to see you." He answered simply.

"Why?" I narrowed my eyes in suspicion.

"Because I love you." He smirked and I scoffed.

"What makes you think I still hold any form of feelings for you, Atlas?"

"I still prefer Danny." He mumbled and I didn't say anything. "The way you acted in the interrogation gave it away." Daniel shrugged, a lopsided grin gracing his lips. "Plus, I'm magic, I always know." I rolled my eyes. "Are you going to let me in or not?"

"First of all, you're wrong. Second of all, I think not." I told him and tried to close the door but his foot got in the way.

"How about I explain everything to you?" He said, the words rushing from his mouth and I thought for a moment, biting my lip. "I don't mean to rush you but could you hurry up? I'm losing feeling in my foot." I rolled my eyes and opened it back up.

"You'll tell me everything..."

"I will." He nodded.

"And you won't lie?" He crossed his heart.

"I promise." I stared at him for a moment before sighing and opening the door wider, letting him into my home. He stepped in past me and looked around. "You've redecorated." He commented awkwardly and I nodded and began locking the several locks I had on my door to which Atlas raised an eyebrow. "And bumped up security...why?"

I shrugged and wrung my hands, "One of the people I put away came after me and broke into my home." I tried to be as blasé as possible but that was a little difficult when addressing the time someone tried to murder you in your own house.

"What!?" Daniel spat in shock with wide eyes. "What happened!?" I sighed and sat myself on the couch, he was hesitant for a moment before he sat on the other end.

"Well, this man had been killing people, obviously, I won't go into detail. But, my team and I had managed to catch him. He was in an extremely fragile mental state because he'd suffered from a psychotic break so I was sent in-"

"You alone?" Daniel butt in. "How the hell could the rest of the team agree with that!?"

"Because it was our only option at that point, the rest of the team would have intimidated him. Long story short, I gained his trust and we managed to get him behind bars, which therefore led to losing his trust and him blaming me. He managed to escape with the help of his little band of merry men. He found out where I lived and broke in. He sliced my stomach up a little but I managed to knock him out and call an ambulance and Aaron."

"I'm sorry I wasn't there-"

I rolled my eyes. "I didn't need you there, Daniel." He scoffed.

"You were almost killed-"

"But I wasn't." I said firmly. "Believe it or not, I had been fending for myself before I met you, Atlas. This wasn't the first attempt on my life and it sure as hell won't be the last. It's my job; putting my life on the line to help people. I know what I'm getting into, I know the risks, I know the people I'm up against and I know what they're capable of. At least a lot more than you do." He stared at me for a moment before looking down, shaking his head.

"You're right, I'm sorry." He conceded. "I know you're more than capable of taking care of yourself, I'm just worried for you. The fact that you're not even safe in your own home...It scared me before and it still does now, but hearing that something like that actually happened..." He paused, moving up the coach, right by my side as we faced each other, our arms brushing. "All the times I've been telling you that I love you, I'm not lying. I still do, I never stopped." I leant in closer, my eyes flickering between his own, searching for a lie. Searching for something, anything, that could prove to me her had ulterior motives. "Trust me, Ellie, trust your gut. You know I'm not lying." I blinked and leant back.

"It doesn't matter to me whether you are or not." I shrugged. "You ruined that with the whole robbery thing you've got going on."

"We could be together..." He trailed off, leaning forwards. "Think of it like we're Romeo and Juliet." He grinned, his words bringing me back to Dylan's teasing.

"You mean dying by the end of this?" I raised an eyebrow.

He bit his lip and shook his head. "How about Peeta and Katniss?" I raised an eyebrow. "Cleopatra and Mark Antony?" I chuckled slightly and shook my head causing him to grin. "Okay, how about, J. Daniel Atlas and Elara Ellis?"

I looked to the floor, biting my lip. "I don't think so, Daniel." I mumbled. "I could lose my job and-"

"Are you seriously going to pick a job over me?" He raised an eyebrow and like he flicked a switch in me, anger filled my veins. I could see the regret in his eyes as I glared at him and stood from the couch.

"I worked insanely hard to get where I am, Daniel Atlas and you know that so don't you dare try and pull that on me." I scolded. "You are not allowed to try to waltz back into my life as a criminal and ask me to give up my life for you. I certainly will not drop everything for you on a whim." His gazed softened and he sighed, nodding, his eyes moving to the ground.

"You're right...again" He said regretfully, pinching the bridge of his nose as he got to his feet. "That's not fair of me to put you in that position, I'm sorry. I know how important this job is for you and I don't have the right to make you chose like that." He fidgeted with his fingers for a bit before mumbling, "I should probably show myself out now?"

I nodded sadly, my anger deflating as I followed him to the door, wishing things could be different. He opened it and stepped out, pausing on the porch, he turned to me. "Are you going to tell your FBI friends I was here?" Daniel asked with raised eyebrows. I shook my head in response.

"No." I whispered, watching his eyes flicker to my lips. I cleared my throat, stepping back, the slightest of blushes lining my cheeks out of instinct. He smirked, obviously noticing the red tint.

"I'm sure we'll be seeing each again, Agent Ellis."

"I'm sure we will, Atlas."
