Showdown

Jemma slowly approaches Kat and Ian with a group of Pandora's followers. They are handing out apples to people in the mall. A lot of the people who pass them are mindlessly taking them without really thinking about it, the way anyone would with a free sample. Kat and Ian are supervising the effort.

"Where is she?" Jemma asks loudly.

Kat turns to see Jemma, she smiles, "Where's who?"

That makes Jemma frown at the obviousness of the question, "You know who."

Ian does the same.

"Of course we know who. We're not stupid." declares Ian with a joking tone.

Jemma stops a few feet away from both of them.

"Well you're doing pretty good impressions so far. I mean, I thought you were stronger than that." Jemma says, trying to push their buttons.

It doesn't seem to phase them.

"After everything we've been through together, I figured you'd resist whatever this is. That you'd fight back. Instead, here you are." continues Jemma.

Kat scoffs at the suggestion, "Maybe we just realized that you were wrong."

"Yeah, for all your crazy rambling about how bad she is, it turns out you're the real problem. She's actually trying to fix the world and all you're doing is messing it up." says Ian.

"How?" Jemma pushes back.

"What?"

"How exactly am I messing it up?" insists Jemma, "If Pandora's so perfect and she's saving everyone, then I couldn't mess it up could I?"

Ian can't help but respond, "Doesn't mean you're not going to try... even if you're going to fail."

"If I'm going to fail, then why not just tell me where Pandora is so I can get it over with?" Jemma asks.

Kat and Ian look at each other, not sure whether they should say anything.

"She's... busy." Kat hesitantly replies.

"With what? Doesn't she have all you lackeys to do her work for her?" suggests Jemma.

"This one is special." blurts out Ian in anger.

Kat shoves him, "Shut the hell up."

Jemma gives them both a curious look, "What's so special about this one?"

"Nothing..." insists Kat forcefully, "He's nothing."

"It's a he?" questions Jemma, "Who is he?"

"No one... just... forget about it." Ian says, trying to make up for his mistake.

"Must be a pretty important someone. She's been pretty much obsessed with me ever since she went crazy. Why would she change that now?" wonders Jemma out loud.

"Probably because you're not as important to her as you thought. Talk about being self-centred."responds Kat.

"Says the people following a woman who created an entire cult around her." points out Jemma, before continuing, "Look, just tell me where she is so you don't get blamed for telling me everything."

They look at each other for a moment. Kat sighs in a defeated way.

"She's at the school."

Jemma looks at them, clearly expecting more but not getting it.

"The school is a pretty big place." points out Jemma, trying to push the issue.

That has Kat smiling, "Then I guess you'll have a lot of ground to cover."

They stare at each other for a while, until Jemma realizes she isn't going to get anything else. She walks away.

Pandora can't help but smile at the sight in front of her. Paul, Nina and Sarah are working together on a particular project. That project is Ulysses who is tied up.

"Tell us what your secret is."insists Nina, frustrated.

"We can make this stop, all you have to do is give us what we want." Sarah suggests.

Paul closes the distance between him and Ulysses while Sarah and Nina hang back. In his hands is a knife.

"But if you don't want to, I'm happy to continue." Paul says, brandishing the knife playfully.

Despite the situation, Ulysses smiles at his captors, "I get what you're doing, but it's not going to work. This isn't going to last. At some point, what you're going to want is forgiveness. Don't worry, I'll give it to you."

That has Pandora change her expression. Just as Paul is about to respond with a knife, Pandora steps in.

"Stop!" declares Pandora forcefully.

Paul, Nina and Sarah immediately stop what they're doing and turn to Pandora.

"What made you say that?" Pandora asks hesitantly.

It takes Ulysses a second to answer, "What?"

"About giving us forgiveness. What made you say it like that?" elaborates Pandora.

"It's just... something I believe." explains Ulysses.

There's a silence in the room as Pandora just stares at Ulysses with an angry curiosity.

"What is it my lady?" asks Sarah with concern.

Pandora ignores the question, staying focused on her captive.

"Did she send you? Is that why you're here?" questions Pandora.

Ulysses stares back for a while, breathing heavily because of the torture.

"Who's she?" pushes back Ulysses.

They watch each other. Eventually, Pandora sighs and rolls her eyes.

"Fine, just... keep at it." orders Pandora as she turns around and heads for the door, "I want to know what's so important about him."

Paul turns to Ulysses as she leaves, brandishing the knife with a smile on his face.

"Now... where were we?" he asks.

He stabs Ulysses as Sarah and Nina watch on with smiles.

Hermes sits in his chair at his desk, looking at the clock as if he is waiting for something. He doesn't have to wait long as Jemma walks through the door.

"Where is she?" Jemma asks with determination.

He smiles at her, "Nice to see you again Ms Epimetheus. How are things?"

"Don't screw with me. I know she's here. Her servants told me she was. I need to find her and I know you're not letting your little pet project out of your sight." says Jemma insistently.

There's a voice from behind her, it's Pandora, "Is that how you see me babe? Just your little pet project?"

Hermes stands up at Pandora's entrance,"Oh you know you're much more than that to me."

Pandora makes her way over to Hermes, putting her arm around him as she does. They smile at each other. It makes Jemma uncomfortable.

"I'd never put this much effort into something so petty." insists Hermes, adding, "You mean too much to me."

Jemma can't help but push back, "You barely know each other. Dora, you and I know each other better than you and he."

That has Pandora giving her an obviously fake pout, "Aww, don't be jealous babe. There's more than enough of me for both of you."

She turns to Hermes with a smile, takes him in her arms and leans in, kissing him. The kiss deepens and Jemma is stunned into silence. Eventually, the kiss ends and Pandora turns to Jemma with a smile while not letting go of Hermes.

"So... have you come to join us finally?" an expectant Pandora asks.

It takes Jemma a while to answer, "No, I... your... I came to try and save you."

Pandora rolls her eyes and gives a frustrated sigh.

"We talked about this Jemma."

"I know but... this is different. It's... your father... he... he's talking about killing you." explains Jemma.

Pandora's eyebrows raise at that before turning to Hermes.

"It's happening." declares Pandora happily.

"I told you it would." responds Hermes with a similarly happy tone.

That has Jemma pretty confused, "What's happening?"

Pandora and Hermes look at each other with curiously happy looks.

"Should we tell her babe?" asks Pandora.

He shrugs at her, "Well I suppose there isn't much she can do about it now. Especially if she's right and he's coming for you."

Pandora returns her focus to Jemma, "He's the final piece to the plan."

"The final piece?" questions Jemma.

Hermes picks it up from there, "All this? Alienating you from Pandora, making her vulnerable to my influence, everything that Pandora's done? The only way it all works out is if he's out of the way."

"We can't fix the world with him still around. He needs to go." adds Pandora.

"But... he's your father." Jemma pushes back.

"And he's been a constant pain most of my life. Particularly in the last year since I found out about the whole Box thing and my destiny. It'll be great to finally get rid of him. And I think now we finally have the power to do it." elaborates Pandora.

Jemma looks at them with curiosity, "Why now? With all the spirits and things that have caused so much chaos and destruction. Why weren't those things enough?"

"Because those were just spirits. They barely had enough power to do much of anything. Let alone destroy someone like Pandora's father. He's too powerful on his own, even without his wife beside him. I needed to tip the scales in my favour. Get two of us to his one." explains Hermes.

"Us?" wonders Jemma back.

Hermes gives her something of a wicked grin, "I'm not like all the others. I'm not a spirit. I'm something so much more. I... am a god."

Jemma steps back at this last statement from Hermes.

"You... you mean... you're actually Hermes?" Jemma asks.

That makes Hermes laugh.

"No of course not. He's too much of a goody goody to do anything this diabolical." Hermes says.

Suddenly, he begins to change, his eyes glowing black and a black mist around him as he changes form into... Strife.

"The name's Strife... son of Discord." Strife says, rather proud of himself.

"Discord?" Jemma asks.

Pandora waves her hand with a smile to get Jemma's attention.

"You? You're... not Pandora?" Jemma asks, starting to really get upset.

"Oh no, I am... but I won't be for much longer. As soon as we get rid of my dad, I'll finally ascend and become the goddess I was always meant to be. Discord, the goddess of chaos. Adored by everyone and creating the world I've always wanted to live in. With the amount of power I have now though, amplified by my subjects as they eat more apples, I finally have enough power that between the two of us... we can take my father down." explains Pandora happily.

A long moment of silence follows before anyone says anything.

"I... I'll stop you." attempts Jemma with uncertainty.

Pandora and Hermes both laugh at the suggestion.

"Because your other attempts worked out so well." Pandora offers up in response.

Again Jemma takes a moment, "But... that's because I didn't realize it before. I didn't notice what you really wanted. What you were really craving. You wanted to be seen."

Pandora just gives her an amused look. Jemma slowly but surely moves closer to them both.

"Everything you've done. All the spirits you've defeated and the people you've saved. None of them have really noticed you. Or if they did, I pulled them away from you. Made them resent you or think you were trying to hurt them. They never thanked you for what you did for them. And that's why Strife was able to get to you. He preyed on your need to be seen and recognized for what you've done. And he used me to do it." adds Jemma, getting pretty close to Pandora while continuing, "Maybe if I had seen it before, this wouldn't have happened. What he was doing to you. How he was driving us apart. But it's different now... you're not alone anymore... I see you."

Jemma pulls The Box out from behind her and thrusts it into Pandora's chest. Nothing happens.

"You tried this before remember?" Pandora points out.

"I know." responds Jemma.

Right before Pandora's about to push back, Jemma grabs something else from behind her back, using the knife to stab Pandora in the side. Jemma and Pandora look each other in the eyes.
