In the Morning

The next morning, Jemma is at home sleeping off the night before. All the electronics in her  room are either off or in sleep mode as she sleeps. She exhales in her sleep and a wave of magical energy escapes, going straight up to the ceiling and hits the lights above her. They immediately turn on. Jemma, still asleep, squeezes her eyes shut tighter and turns her head away and  rolling over to stay asleep.

Not long after, another wave of magical energy escapes with her breath and the wave hits her  bedside table which has her phone and a lamp. The phone starts ringing and the alarm goes off at the same time and the lamp turns on as well.  This wakes her up as her bedside table's drawer also opens because of the wave. Jemma sits up suddenly at the noise.

"What the hell?"

She looks around before fumbling with the phone to turn the alarm off. She answers the phone but no one is on the other end so she hangs up. Jemma turns off the light  on her bedside table. After taking another look around in confusion, she  decides to start the day.

Not long after, Jemma comes down for breakfast with her family. Her father and mother are sitting at the table, they look about as traditional as parents can be in today's age. Her mother Shannon was setting out breakfast for her father Troy and her as he reads the news on an iPad at the table. They  notice their daughter's change in style. Jemma's dressed much less conservatively than previously, applying more make up and shows more  skin.

"Hello... honey?" asks a confused Shannon.

Jemma looks at her mother.

"Hmm?"

"Is that... do you think that's appropriate?"

"What?"

"Your outfit."

Jemma looks herself over.

"I wouldn't have put it on if I didn't."

Troy looks at her daughter.

"You're sure you want to go with that?"

"Yes, why?"

"It's just... not your usual choice."

"Is it a problem?" as Jemma speaks, the magical waves come off her and hit her mother.

"No, not necessarily. I  just... honey, we want you to be who you are, but..." tries her mother before being interrupted by a strange feeling.

"This just doesn't seem like who you are. We're a little confused." her father finishes the thought.

"I wanted a change. Am I not allowed to change?" again Jemma's words are followed by a wave of  magic coming off her and hitting her father. Jemma notices but her  parents don't.

After a few moments where he feels uncertain, her father speaks up, "Of course you are sweetie."

Jemma smiles, "Good."

"In fact, if that's what  you want..." says Troy as he pulls out his wallet and starts pulling out a credit card, "If that's the way you want to dress, here."

He hands over his credit card to Jemma. She seems somewhat unsure as she takes it from him.

"Really? What is this? Some kind of test?"

"Why would it be a test?" asks her father.

"You guys never want me to use your credit cards. I've asked but you always tell me that I have  to ask for what I want and you'll buy it if I need it."

"Well now we're not. Enjoy!"

"Your father's right, have fun."

Jemma looks at each of her parents before looking at the credit card with a smile.

"You can use it tonight. Your mother and I are going out."

Shannon looks at her husband, surprised, "We are?"

"Yes."

"Since when?" asks Jemma's mother, happy with the sudden change.

"Since now." he declares "And we are probably going away for the weekend too. You're old enough to fend for yourself."

"I've been saying that for years."

"And now we're listening."

Jemma looks down at the credit card in her hand and smiles.
