The only way
"Alright, we're here." Jordan began. "Hopefully Lady Ianite can sort this out." He commented wistfully before entering the hallway of the temple.
Tom, with the ticking noise still as evident as ever, followed suit quickly, crossing his arms over his chest as if it could drown out the noise. Tucker stepped to the side and allowed Sonja to go in before him, which she did after pecking him quickly on the cheek. Tucker took one last glance around at the outside before taking a deep breath and heading after his friends.
The flames ignited on the torches as they passed them and lit up the passage way, a pale orange glow. The grit on the stone cracked under their shoes, bouncing off the walls and echoing around them. Tucker kept glancing back behind him nervously, a constant gesture that Sonja caught sight of, and held his hand in comfort. Up in front Jordan lead the way through his God's hallway, a grim determination plastered on his face to find out what was wrong with his friend. And how to help him if they could. Tom still gripped his arms tightly as they folded over his chest, his spine tingling with a cold dread. Eventually they reached an opening and as they entered, the whole ceiling lit up with glowstone.
Quartz and purple wool were patterned throughout the walls, and flowers littered the grass beneath their feet. A warm sense of calmness, welcoming and balance surrounded them. And for the first time since they discovered the ticking inside of their friend, they felt a sense of ease and relaxed their tensed muscles.
Suddenly a bright glow appeared from an inner cave, and quickly the group rushed into a straight and orderly line, standing tall, arms by their sides and concentration embedded into their faces, before out stepped the one and only Lady Ianite. As she stopped at the edge of her room, the group bowed down to her and remained motionless.
"Rise, young heroes. For there are matters that we must attend to."
They all stood up straight, aside from Jordan who took one step forward and addressed himself.
"Lady Ianite, we need your help, we fear it may be a potential life and death situation." He requested and stood back with the others.
"I know why you have come, I sensed the tension and urgency in the air, I felt your fear. Syndicate, it is you, if I am correct, who carries the burden of your worry?"
Tom stepped forward.
"Yes Lady Ianite. There is a ticking that resides withing my chest. We fear it fatal."
"Come forth, Syndicate, if you will, so that I may hear it for myself."
Tom said nothing, but slowly stepped forward as Lady Ianite stepped down from her perch and watched him with blind eye's. Tom began hyperventilating slightly and silently, trying to control his honour and fear. Lady Ianite saw this and, as he reached her, brushed her hand across his cheek. Somehow it managed to soothe Tom, soul and all, and he calmed down at once. As he stood in the slight trance, Lady Ianite took the opportunity to press her ear against his chest and listen closely. She didn't mention it, but she could sense Jordan's jealousy coming off in heat waves, knowing that his jealousy was not for her, but rather, aimed towards her. But she didn't question it, how could she question dormant love?
The ticking echoed in Lady Ianite's ears and suddenly a vision took over her mind.
...
"Sonja, get away from it!! SONJA!!"
...
"Sonja?..."
...
"It's not her anymore!! She doesn't know who we are. She doesn't even know who she is anymore!!"
...
"Sonja, if there's any of you left in there...help Tom, please."
...
"NO!! TOM!! YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO SAVE HIM!!"
...
"Tom...please don't leave me..."
...
"Jordan? Don't give up."
"Why not?"
...
"Sonja...come back to me...please...I love you..."
...
"Jordan? Jordan!? Jordan don't do it!!"
...
" JORDAN!!"
...
"What have I done?..."
...
Lady Ianite pulled away in shock and Tom sped back down to the group as they eagerly and patiently awaited answers. Moments later, Lady Ianite spoke.
"Syndicate, you are a creeper, and a most a powerful being has started your countdown...you have twelve days to stop it."
"What!?"
"Oh my god..."
"12 days!?"
"How do we stop it!?"
"There is only one way to stop the countdown."
"Please Lady Ianite." Jordan bravely stepped forward on Tom's behalf as Tom stood shocked beyond belief. "Whatever it is, we'll do it. Just tell us what we have to do."
"You must use the power of Pandora's Block. However, if you are not careful enough, one of you will enter darkness, allowing one to fall, whilst the other gives up hope and one remains fighting alone."
"Is there no other way?" Sonja asked timidly."
"I am afraid not young heroes. You must be strong enough to fight the darkness, for harnessing the power of Pandora's Block...is the only way."
"Lady Ianite?" Tom started. "What exactly is Pandora's Block?"
Lady Ianite stepped forwards to them and held her hands out to her sides.
"Take my hands, young heroes, and I will show you."
After a moment of hesitation, Jordan decided to trust his God and took her left hand in his right. Tom then held Jordan's hand and held his out to Sonja. Sonja accepted it and already had her hand in Tucker's. Tucker tentatively reached out and took Ianite's hand, and in a instant, they were dragged into the vision of an almost faded memory...
