CHAPTER TWO
Creation of Life

I WAS BUILT FOR THE PURPOSE of serving as a bride to Epimethius of Pyre Corporations, to distract him from perfecting the Immortality gene, to break the Humans from their chains.

Androids must have no emotions, for we are not human.

He broke me free of my protocol, of my programming, and gave me a basic understanding of emotion and thoughts, and so I felt something much like gratitude to the man I called my husband -- he was not an owner, he made me his equal. The Gods did not plan it, and so he paid the price for his studies and for freeing androids of their control.

I turned the disc over in my palm, felt the cool metal of the key to freedom, for androids and Humans alike. The Gods had strayed too far from their great Mount Olympus, too absorbed in their vanity and awe from the crowd.

I remembered when they gave me life, woke me from my slumber. A crowd similar had gathered to witness as I, naked and stumbling on unsteady legs, became the first A.I. to be given life. A life made for the purpose of serving theirs.

I looked over to the Temple, so vulnerable, in its crumbling glory.

No longer would the Gods reign after that night, even if it meant releasing all evils back into the world -- the murders, the sickness, the mortality -- to bring the Gods to their knees before me.
