5. Iced Americano & Addiction
"C-coffee?"
Jungkook wanted to slap his face for the stuttering he just did. How can the raven head think about embarrassing himself in front of an ungodly creature like the one he is facing at the moment. Truthfully, the brown head male looked like a seraphic being.
"Coffee you said. Iced Americano?" Taehyung asked with a smile on his face when he noticed the slightly younger-looking male blinked heavily without replying.
"Yea."
"Right up."
Damn those fingers. Jungkook wants to hang himself. Is he so deprived of attention that he starts fantasising with someone's fingers alone? He watched like a hawk as the brown head skilfully tampered the powder, pressed it nice and equal, pouring extract into a cup filled with ice.
"Iced Americano right up. That'd be 2 dollars." Tae was cleaning off the countertop while he waited for Jungkook to pay up.
"You're a friend of Louis?"
Jungkook who sipped on his coffee almost chocked when the handsome brown head male continued the conversation which he thought was over. The raven head male isn't the best when it comes to social interaction and he wonders how Louis does it. Having followed him for all his Uni life, Jungkook surely admires his friend's outgoing personality. Maybe staying with Hobi rubbed off a little on Louis. Either way, Jungkook isn't complaining.
"You know Louis?"
"Mhm. He came in last night when I'm about to close the shop."
"Right. The carrot cake."
"You tried the cake?"
"Yea. I ate it before we left for real food." Jungkook didn't know why he finds the need to answer the male who he has no clue about. Guess he was enchanted by the light hazel eyes and intoxicated with the deep oceanic voice which was an octave lower than what Jungkook have commonly heard among males.
He was further caught off guard when the said male dropped his head back in a fit of laughter while his eyes creased into a half-moon.
Adorable.
Jungkook watched and waited for the other to explain the amusement. Meanwhile, he is surely enjoying the view.
"How can a cake not be real food? It is in my opinion one of the best invention out there. Dessert in general. I'm not a cake person myself but I love baking them."
"You don't like cakes?"
Jungkook watched the brown head contemplate. It was visible on his face at how he was thinking about answering the question tactfully.
"Between me and you, I don't like desserts." Again the same intoxicating laugh which Jungkook finds tickling his lips to a curve, bringing a smile to his face.
"I see you've become friends with my Kookie."
"Your Kookie?" Jungkook did a mental flip when he heard the said brown head clarified. A string of confusion lacing in the patissier's face.
"Yep. He is the one I told you who enjoyed the cake immensely. This is Jungkook. My best buddy." Louis throws his free arm around Jungkook's slightly inching on his toes as the ravenette stood a few centimetres taller.
"Oh. That's you." Taehyung's smile widened as he wiggles his brows. He already knows that anyway.
"Yea. And he also said he would like to kiss the hands of the person who baked it."
Jungkook wanted to dig a hole and bury himself when he heard the fast approaching broad shoulder man saying things with a huge naughty grin on his face.
"Is that so? I don't take kisses as dollars for my goods but you, maybe." Taehyung smirked playfully and broke into a burst of laughter when he saw Jungkook cheeks turning to the shades or his strawberry cream cake. "Thanks for loving my carrot cake Jungkook."
"Welcome...Taehyung." Jungkook caught the little cursive golden letters piled together in a row spelling out the name of the brown head on his apron.
"We got to go now. I'll stop by again. Bye Tae." Louis made a move to exit.
"Happy to have you again Louis. Enjoy the pastries Jungkook." The brown head waved at the younger as Jungkook couldn't say much so he resolved into nodding with a small smile.
As they walked out of the aesthetically pleasing cafe, Jungkook felt the warmth outdoor. He gripped his coffee and sip on it allowing the concentrated caffeine to wash down his palate, making him hum in satisfaction. It tasted similar to the cup of warm coffee which the library lady offered him. He made a mental note to ask her if she grabbed her pastries and coffee from V's bakery.
"Are you gonna go home right away?"
"Mhm. Need to prepare for the presentation."
"Kooks, it's not until a week from now." Louis groaned when he looked at Jungkook who was devouring his coffee with an innocent-looking face. "Come on. You owe me a party for the win last night."
"No Louis. I can't. I have to rest and prepare for the presentation. It'll be done in front of the school panel. I can potentially score a job through this."
"Sometimes, I just wish you're not too hard on yourself Jungkook. You don't need to be."
"It's easier said than done Louie. A minute of me slacking can cost me my future."
Louis can't comprehend. He isn't like Jungkook who born into a difficult family. Louis is from a wealthy family, he was born out of a silver spoon and never once experienced a roughy living. So, whatever that Jungkook's been saying and experiencing, Louis can never relate. Perhaps, that is one of the things that sets the two friends apart.
"So rain check?"
"Sure thing Louie."
With that, the duo departed at the junction leading to V's Bakery and the road to their respective apartments. Jungkook walked back to his studio apartment in a close distance as he entered the clean space with a heavy shoulder and worn-out body. Guess the aftermath of yesterday's match is slowly weighing down on his muscular frame.
He gently placed the bag of cake and choux he bought at the island top.
"V's Bakery." Jungkook slowly ran his rough and busted fingers over the letters on the paper bag, admiring the printed bold italic font. A sense of giddiness washed over his chest, welcoming the alien feeling for the first time in many years into the corner of Jungkook's heart.
"You seem to enjoy speaking with Louis." Jin was picking up the used cups from the tabletop while Taehyung arranged the freshly baked madeleines on the top shelf inside the glass display.
"With Louis?" Taehyung scrunched his brows as he finished placing his madeleines beautifully against one another, prepared for it to be selling like hot cakes. Usually, 5 to 7 in the evening is a peak time at V's Bakery apart from the morning rush hours.
"Yea, the one with the handsome fella."
"The taller boy? Jungkook?"
"Yea, Jungkook." Jin answered as he watched Taehyung smiling. "Why are you smiling like a creep?" The older of the two made a disgusting face.
"You're right, he is handsome, isn't he?"
"God Taehyung. You are someone's boyfriend for God sake. Stop flirting."
Taehyung rolled his eyes and ignored his friend who caught up with him as he quickly dispersed to the kitchen. "Get out, the cashier is empty. I don't want customer having to ring the bell a gazillion times coz you're being an ass." Tae gestured for the older to get lost while Jin smirked, catching Taehyung slipping.
"Be careful Tae. The pretty boy might not be on the market for you to grab." The older surely enjoyed the annoyed look on his boss's face as he made his way out before he was greeted by a floured spatula on his face. It happened before and he isn't about to happen twice.
"He is pretty." The brown head grinned as he started his routine work.
Taehyung forgot the whole ordeal with Jin as he continued to clean his station, preparing the kitchen aid for his next batch of cakes. The brown head continued his patissier rituals like a priest and completed his checklist when the clock hit 9 pm, signalling it's time to pack and go home.
Just like any other day, today was another usual mundane day where Taehyung spent at his bakery with Jin's constant blabbering and pranks. For once, the brown head is grateful for having his loyal hometown friend with him, making days like today a little better to endure.
On another note, Taehyung allowed the sight of a raven head male slip passes his mind with the busyness. He skipped his dinner and used it to clean up while Jin mysteriously disappeared during the last hour giving an excuse for a date which Taehyung can't confirm the legitness of it.
As the front door closed shut and keys turned to lock the black wooden door, Taehyung adjusted the messenger bag over his shoulder, taking in the breeze over his soft brown locks. It was not a special night of any sort, but Taehyung's feet were heavy and it had a mind of his own as he walked down an unfamiliar path, taking a longer route to his apartment.
"Taehyung?"
The brown head rise with the calling of his name as his feet came to a halting stop. Only then he looked up to see the street he was in with the apartment complex on the right side. He looked ahead once more, squinting his eyes to identify a male, dark onyx hidden underneath the raven locks as the man's shocking expression was full-on display.
"Jungkook?"
