3. Boxing Match & Late Night Cravings
"Yo Kook, tonight? 7 pm?"
Jungkook nodded at his friend Louis while he unwrapped the white hand wrap which supports his knuckles, wrists, fingers and gives firm protection for his boxing punches. "Yea, 7 pm."
"Borders Centre?" The smaller male asked for confirmation.
"Mhm. And you better be there in your best cheerleading avatar coz I will be needing it all tonight." The ravenette threw away the hand wrappers and combed his sweaty hair back with his fingers while sweat continued to glaze his chiselled body. The younger's body does not look like a body without hours of efforts put into it in the gym. Among all the other dedicated items on Jungkook's life list, boxing and working out is an utmost priority.
More simply, Jungkook's life motto does revolve around rather be dead than cool. He has discipline and dedication when it comes to his passions and Jungkook thrives to make end meets while keeping his top scorer card in college, quickly becoming the envy of many.
"You bet I will. Is this the match against Marcus?"
"Mhm." The raven head took off his sweat-drenched shirt and opt for a new pair while Louis was doing cooling-off stretches in their college gym.
"Damn. I heard he had never lost any matches since last year upon returning from a hiatus. He is a beast."
"Well, I have never lost a match since I start competing." Jungkook quenched his thirst with a smirk on his face while he gulped down the cool water, feeling the desire to beat this so-called Marcus burning in the pit of his stomach.
"That's true, my Jungkookie is a master of the beast!" Louis tackled the taller male in his arms while Jungkook whined about Louis's sweat coating him as the best friend duo made their way out to Jungkook's studio apartment to prepare for the fight.
Although it's a completely legal and healthy competition, Jungkook knows that the prize money he will win out of this will secure him a good amount of fund to kickstart his passion someday upon graduating. As much as he respects and loves his father, the younger one didn't wish to be a burden for any longer than he already was before.
.
"COME ON KOOK! YOU GOT THIS CHAMP!" Louis was cheering in the mid of a hundred mouths screaming cheers. He went to the extent of bringing a huge flag with Jungkook's handsome face printed across to flag it in the air. It was completely against Jungkook's idea of cheerleading for him in a boxing competition but there is not stopping Louis who in on fire supporting his best friend in winning his dream match.
"In 3, 2, 1. End. The winner for tonight ladies and gentlemen, JEON JUNGKOOK." The umpire holds up the red glove with a hard punch in the air as Jungkook catches his breath, sweat dripping from his head aligning the angular jaw which he clenched in a proud satisfaction. His eyes searched the crowd for his friend Louis a small goofy smile adorned his concentrated face when he watched his friend dancing with joy, hands gripping on the self-made flag.
"JEON JUNGKOOK. JEON JUNGKOOK. JEON JUNGKOOK." The cheer rang throughout the arena, clearly announcing to the world who the winner is tonight.
It made the younger's chest swell in pride and it was the end of the night for him when he watched Marcus laying unconscious on the floor, defeated for the first time by someone younger than him. It surely felt good and nothing made the victory sweeter than knowing he also cashed in a hefty amount for his savings.
"JUNGKOOK! That was awesome dude. You were a beast!" Louis head locked the raven head in his arm, careful to not cause any further damage on the bruises in the champion's body.
"Thanks, you bet I heard you cheer from the audience."
"I would have killed you if you say you didn't. I made the cheerleaders look pathetic." Louis flipped his imaginary ponytail as Jungkook finish wrapping up his bag with a cheque in his hand. "Lemme take the trophy for ya." Louis was a manager that Jungkook can't afford to hire.
"Thanks Louis. Urm, what time is it?"
"15 minutes to 9."
"Oh." Jungkook contemplated. "Do you mind taking my bag and trophy to your place? I want to go for a walk and it's a bit too much to carry." Jungkook requested his friend who narrowed his eyes at him.
"Jungkook. It's your amazing win against the dreaded Marcus, I thought we can celebrate. Exams are over, we have a week before our presentation for the finals. Come on." Louis secretly called upon his friends to decorate his place in advance to welcome Jungkook. Depending on the outcome of the event, it could have been either a winning homecoming celebration or a cheer-you-up embrace if he loses.
"I know. I understand your excitement over the win but I want to take a walk to wind down as well."
"You've busted your lips Jungkook. That needs attention." Louis pointed at the raven head's face. He didn't want to abort the amazing plan in his mind to celebrate the champion.
"I have ointments for it Louie. It doesn't hurt too much." said Jungkook as he pulled a black hoodie over his head, trying to keep the attention to his face at a bare minimum.
"Seriously?" Louis pouted dramatically.
"Yes, Louis Carstairs. Now take this bag and the trophy. I will call you tomorrow at noon for lunch?" Jungkook pretty much made up his mind and there are no changes in that.
"Fine. You owe me a week worth of lunch." Louis grabbed hold of the raven head's belongings as he watched Jungkook nodded.
"Anything for my best friend!"
.
The moon rejoiced as she dances along the star celebrating with the scattered beauties twinkling around her. The raven head male gazed adoringly wishing he was the moon with constant companions around him, celebrating him like a centrepiece.
Jungkook concentrated his eyes on the night sky, feet taking him streets after streets with doors closing, lights being put off indicating business owners ending their routine for the day. The raven head male's eyes fixed on a small twinkling star, mischievously squinting greeting him hello. At that very moment, Jungkook's wishes changed from adorning the moon to the pearly twinkling star.
He smiled to himself, finally taking his eyes to scan the surrounding which he aimlessly walked into. It's his regime that Jungkook set to follow since the end of his first competition. Boxing itself is a sport that gave him a lot of freedom to express his anxiety, anger and frustration. This may be the best aid he can give himself so that he is not pouring his negative thoughts towards his education.
Something along the line of the cold night's breeze, the serenity of its view and the less hustling on the streets calms down the young boxer's nerves right after a boxing match. Tonight, it was one of those nights where Jungkook needed a little pick me up after dreadful weeks of training.
This was Jungkook's night after a match. On the other side of the street, viewing into the night of our patissier's life surely sparks an amusing excitement as Taehyung was busy dusting his improved dough, preparing for his business tomorrow. Tonight, Taehyung operated V's bakery on full hours, planning to close it at 10 pm.
"Jin, attend to the cashier please." Taehyung was kneading his dough while breaking a sweat in the kitchen. He usually ensures that everything is done for tomorrow to avoid any delays in baking and serving his customer fresh goods.
"Jin, counter!" The brown head yelled again when he heard the bell chiming every other minute.
"Gosh, I don't even know why I have not hired someone else." Taehyung growled as he washed his hands clean while rushing towards the counter.
"Hello, evening. What can I get for you today?" As soon as he was out of the kitchen at the counter, Taehyung's warm smile automatically decorated his face. That is one thing which Taehyung never fails, which is to put on his best face for his customers.
"Coffee?"
"Sure. Anything else I can get for you sir?" Taehyung registered a cup of black coffee while he waited for the customer to add on if any.
"Um..."
"Is this your first time at V's Bakery?" Taehyung's eyes softened when he looked at the male who was struggling to concentrate on the selection.
"Yea. I'm not much of a pastry or dessert person. That looks good. Can I have one?"
"Carrot cake?" Taehyung looked at the hand pointed towards his new recipe on the shelf. Immediately, a smile broke into the patissier's lips as he chirpily replied with a sense of fulfilment seeing it's the one that the customer picked. His newly vamped carrot cake. "Sure! You do have an amazing taste for someone who doesn't eat sweets often. I will pack one of that for you."
"Make it two please."
"Even better. You know what? Coffee is on me then. You're my last customer, you just bought my carrot cake which I added to the menu. Hope you'll enjoy them sir."
The male standing in front of him looked younger than he is but Taehyung is someone who adheres to his mannerism so he kept referring to him as sir.
"Thanks, but I would like to pay for all 3 items. You work here and it's not nice to have a free drink. You might get fired by your boss if he or she finds out." The male on the buying end extended a 20 dollar bill for Taehyung to check out the food.
"I insist coz-..."
"And also, you don't have to call me sir. I'm not that old actually. I too insist on paying, it's a good night for me and I'd like to ring your last order out in cash for all." The said male politely smiled, truly showing how appreciative he is towards Tae's kind offer.
"Sure, if you wish to. Next time, it's on me." He rang the cashier out and went ahead to prepare the order. After a short five minutes, all the items ordered were readily packed in a bag as Taehyung handed the steaming hot coffee to the man.
"Enjoy the night-..."
"Louis."
"Enjoy the night Louis."
"Thanks, you too." The raven head held his bag of cakes and gripped into his hot coffee as he walked out of the cosy little shop.
It was indeed a good night.
