I was a new member of the army that Lian led, and I was nervous.

We were going to fight the Resistance soon, and Lian had been tense for a while now.

She made us go through drills to prepare us, and during the current one I nearly tripped over myself when I felt a firm hand grab my arm.

I looked up, and immediately freaked out.

It was Lian, and she looked down at me with a hard look in her eyes.

"Y/N, isn't it?"

She said, helping me up.

"Y-Yes, ma'am.."

I said, looking down at my feet, knowing I'd probably be scolded for being so clumsy with the war coming soon.

I heard a soft sigh, and I was shocked to feel Lian pat me on the shoulder.

"I know these drills are difficult, but you're going to have to grin and bare it."

Her soft hand grabbed my chin, and she gently forced me to look at her.

"Just take it from me. Don't show the pain, I know it's hard, but..."

She smiled at me softly, and said,

"It's almost over."

I tried to grin, but I knew that the war would only bring death. 

Lian patted me on the head, and walked away. 

I stared after her.

I still can't believe she didn't yell at me...

A week later...

It was time.

Lian was pacing around, while Khan tried to calm her down.

The rest of the army was chatting with each other, discussing battle techniques and moves.

I was silent, my eyes set on Lian.

She seemed worried.

Finally, she breathed in, and faced everyone.

"Everyone, as you know, it is the day of the war. We are here to fight for the Magistrate, and stop the Resistance."

Murmurs spread around the room, and Lian stared everyone down.

They got silent.

"Just... Remember the training. We will win this."

She said, and we were let out.

When I passed her, Lian touched my shoulder, and I looked at her, startled.

She whispered to me, 

"Will you fight with me, soldier?"

I nodded, my throat dry.

"Yes."

"Okay. Be careful then."

Lian said, turning away to catch up with Khan.

Why does Lian care if I'm careful or not? I'm just a random soldier she trained....

I thought, as I followed the rest of the army.
