Chapter Eight
Ezra walked towards the counter, admiring the smile on Remi's face.
"Remi, huh," he said when Remi placed down the phone. The boy groaned and sat down.
"Don't. It's my middle name. I hate it, and Rhys loves it because it starts with the first letter of his name."
"I see, and what's the first?" Ezra asked.
"Kyle."
Ezra's body tensed, and Remi noticed. "What?"
"That's my brother's middle name," Ezra replied, and Remi's face fell.
"What's his first?" He asked, his heart palpitating his ribcage.
"Remi," Ezra bantered, and Remi sucked his teeth.
"That's not funny! What's his first name?" The boy glared at Ezra.
"Easton," Ezra replied seriously this time.
Remi nodded and placed his chin in his hand, his elbow biting at the wooden table. "What's yours?"
"My first or middle?" Ezra questioned with a raised eyebrow.
"Your full name," Remi replied.
A smirk appeared on Ezra's face. "That's too much information, don't you think?"
Remi rolled his eyes, trying his best to force his smile away. "Come on. I'll tell you my first name."Ezra thought about it for a second before he replied, "Ezra. Ezra Arthur Grey."
Remi tested out his name, mumbling it beneath his breath, but Ezra heard him. The man's eyes narrowed, and his stomach tied in a knot.
"Yours?" Ezra turned the attention on him.
"Kyle Remi Michaelis," Remi replied. Ezra laughed softly, and Remi frowned in confusion.
"Your mother mixed up your name," Ezra explained, noticing the boy's confusion, but that didn't help.
"How come?" Remi tilted his head to the side.
"Between Kyle and Remi, which name would you tag as the middle one?" Ezra perked an eyebrow.
Remi thought about it for a moment, then chortled. "Kyle."
"Exactly." Ezra laughed, his eyes shutting halfway. It was then Remi noticed the dimple in his left cheek, and his heart thawed. Ezra's laughter soon came to a halt when he remembered the reason they were in the kitchen.
"Shit, the food," he swore beneath his breath as he rushed towards the stove and turned it off. Remi burst into a fit of laughter, and Ezra glanced at the boy, his own lips curving into a smile. Rubbing the back of his neck, Ezra leaned against the sink and drowned in the music leaving the boy's mouth.
