Morning Glories
Morning glories
Of the flowers in pots
Of the open window
Of the girl who sits there
Her touch is caring and light
Her dress is sunny golden
Her hair is honey blonde
She is the morning glory I see
On her finger a ring
Glinting in sunlight
Silver
The flowers surround her like a garden
Red and purple and white blooms
She cares for each one
Gentle she is, and beautiful, this morning glory
Her silver ring winks in light
Light that blinds me
She sits there, in the window frame
Behind her is the dark interior of the house.
Soon she will disappear, fading like the morning dew
Morning dew, morning glory.
She will fade, without being seen by anyone but me.
She will leave nothing behind but a memory
Keeping secrets secret
Keeping me wondering,
None the wiser
Never does she speak
Never have I seen her face
Never has she smiled
But never has she frowned
I wonder
And yet
I don't want to know
For to know would be to destroy this fantasy I have
And what, then, would life be?
Morning glory, she is to me
My morning glory, my mystery.
