XXVIII (PART 2)

I heard Logan announcing for everyone to come to the dinner table behind me, and the people's voices dimming out. Everything faded out, except the sound of my own breathing. The bed sheets were a little messed up, a few picture frames on the floor. The girl falling all over Evans looked between us and giggled.

"I can not believe you, Evans," I barely whispered.

"Talk about bad timing, man," the tall girl snorted.

"Oh it's okay- totally fine. I'll- I'm just leaving," I pointed backwards at the door, "carry on."

"Scarlett! Wait," I just shook my head turning around as Evans threw the drunk girl off him and followed me out.

I ran to the backyard and stepped out in to the open night, instantly regretting it though, it was freezing out here. But I didn't go back in. I knew I would lose Evans for sure but I didn't expect it to be like this. I felt so upset because with every passing second I could only think that I was so little to him. He didn't even wait for me to explain.

"Scarlett, what the hell?!"

I turned around to see Evans shivering walking towards the barbecue table, I reverted my eyes back to the stars I was staring at before.

"Scarlett! Get inside now," he yelled once more. And I ignored him, once more. "If you can't come inside, then I can talk to you. And Scarlett, you owe me an explanation too."

My feet were actually pretty cold.

"That girl, she was in the room and I heard a frame crashing, so I just- went to check. And she was drunk and literally just falling over- she grabbed on to me, please just come inside already," he ranted, shivering.

I jumped off the table and followed him back in the house. His story made sense though, now that I think about it. I'd be cringing if I wasn't shivering to death. As soon as we stepped inside and went near the heaters attached to the walls, I cleared my throat.

"I'm... sorry. For doubting you... And for not telling you also, obviously."

"Yeah, about that. Why didn't you tell me?" I bit on my lip deciding how to answer, "it's Daniel, isn't it?"

"What?" My eyes went wide, "no! Of course it's not- I didn't even know he was coming with Logan until like a few days ago. I don't even know him."

"But you're still going with them?"

"Yes."

"I can't believe you didn't tell me, Scarlett." I bit my lip. "Why? You Can finish school here and I'm sure Ma would let you stay in one of our rooms or Zoey-" he said, with a hopeful voice.

"I can't stay, Evans, I don't want to stay..."

"Not even for me?" I felt my heart just squeeze and tried to hold myself together.

"You're the only thing holding me back. I just don't want to be left behind again, and in New York I get a clean slate, a fresh start," I explained. Evans was still frowning. "We could have a long distance relationship, it's not that hard, we'll talk everyday, I promise."

"Yeah. Sure," Evans said looking away, and I sighed in defeat.

"I'm sorry," I said quietly.

"Whatever." He walked away to the dining hall without looking back.
