Chapter 19
Draco thought he was cunning, but his father had him outmatched. It was the day before the second meeting with Harry when his father cornered him in his office.
"Is there something you wish to tell me Draco?", Lucius asked.
"I don't know, is there?", Draco asked, playing dumb.
"Did you think that I wouldn't find out?"
"Don't play these games Father, just talk to me like a normal person please."
"That artist is your friend."
"Yes, he is", Draco confirmed, matching his father's steely gaze with a look of his own.
"That's his art piece you have hanging on your wall."
"It is."
"You're not even going to try to deny it?"
"You found out, there's no use in lying to you."
"Now you care about lying to me?"
"I never lied to you Father. I recall you specifically telling me to guarantee that he showed up for a second meeting, and he will be tomorrow."
"I never told you to sign him on! I told you the opposite-"
"You never specifically told me not to sign him on."
"It was implied! You disgust me, and you are no son of mine."
"Okay."
"That's all you have to say?"
"We've never had a familial relationship. Am I supposed to be hurt that you don't consider me to be a son? You may have aided in the process of creating me, but that's where you being my father stops. You've always seen me as an extension of yourself, never as my own person.
You've never cared about my passions, my hobbies, or any relationships that I've formulated. You've twisted me into a mini version of yourself, and I hate the man that you've made me become.
I can tell that you're about to fire me, so I'll make it easier for you. I'll sign the forms in your pocket right now."
"There's no coming back from this Draco", Lucius warned.
"Having second thoughts are you?"
Glaring at Draco, Lucius slammed the papers onto Draco's desk.
"Leave these with my secretary. Pack up your things. I think it's wise if you don't stop by the house for a while. Expect papers from my lawyers in regards to your financial situation."
"Fine."
With that, Lucius briskly left the room, not even realizing the harm that he would be causing. Draco didn't have much to pack up, and as he got into his car and drove away, he found himself driving to Harry's flat instead, not even knowing if the other man was home.
He knocked on the door, and after a minute of waiting he had turned away to go back home, when the door opened.
"What happened Draco?"
"Oh, I was fired. I don't know why I came here really, it was an automatic type of thing."
"Come in love."
Harry stepped behind the door and opened it wider for Draco to come in.
"Sorry, I just got out of the shower."
Draco didn't care, he just lost himself in Harry's embrace.
"Let me make you some tea and then we can talk, yeah?"
"Do you have a shirt I can borrow Harry? I want to get out of this shirt."
"Yeah, of course. Follow me."
Harry led Draco into his bedroom, and started sifting through his drawers.
"Here. I've got some joggers too."
While Draco was getting changed, Harry had to call Neville.
"Hey Nev... No, yeah everything is okay, but I have to call out today... I'm really sorry, it's a bit of a family emergency... I can do the digital editing for you later tonight, but this is urgent right now... Thanks mate, yeah I'll be able to pop bye tomorrow... Thanks again for being so understanding Nev, have a good one."
Harry turned around and jumped when he saw Draco.
"Geez you're so quiet."
"You didn't have to do that Harry, I'm fine."
"No, I didn't have to do that, but I wanted to. Let me take care of you love."
"But-"
"The only butt I want to see is yours on my couch. Go", Harry said gently.
A few minutes later Harry walked into his living room with the tea to see Draco curled up into a ball on the couch, staring at the wall.
"Talk to me Draco, tell me what I can do for you."
"You can just hold me", Draco replied softly. "I'm not sad, I'm not really angry, I just feel empty."
Harry held Draco until he was ready to talk. He recounted all Lucius had said to him, not like there was much said in the first place.
"I'm sorry Draco. You deserve so much better."
"It's always been like that. He'll get what's coming to him. My mother is going to give him hell when she finds out though. I don't know what the lawyers are going to do, but I think it's time that I should find a new place to stay. It's nearing the end of the month. I should go, look for a place."
"Move in with me."
"Harry-"
"Your father won't be able to find you. It's a little small here, but we can find a new place, together."
"You'd really want that?"
"Yeah, I really do. We can go there now and get some of your things if you'd like, or we can go and get everything tomorrow instead. Whatever you want. Spend the night, I have some things you can borrow. We'll work through this together."
"You really are perfect Harry. I mean that. You're willing to do so much, and you barely even know me."
"Feelings aren't based on the time spent together Draco, I keep telling you that. I was with my last girlfriend for a year and I broke it off when she wanted to move in, and I couldn't see myself reaching that point with her. You're different, we just have this, I dunno, a connection. We can do a trial run for a week or so, and if you still want your own place that's fine. Just talk with me, okay?"
"Okay", Draco promised, tilting his head up so that he could kiss Harry. "This is already a positive of spending more time together."
"Oh definitely. I can think of a few more."
"Do tell Mr. Potter."
"I'd rather show you Mr. Malfoy."
