Elena Hemmings looked down at her phone with a smile. The comments had been rolling in, and each and every single one had been filled with love, support and kindness. Elena could barely believe her eyes - the hashtag #loveyouelena was trending and she wasn't quite sure why.
I'm not worth all this.
"You good, Little Hemmings?"
Calum grinned as he entered the room, his eyes crinkling. Elena grinned in return, Calum's smile really was contagious.
"They're being so nice." Unsure tears shone in her eyes, and Elena didn't know if they were happy or sad. She wasn't sure how she felt about the entire ordeal, if she was being completely honest with herself.
Calum laughed before sitting next to the girl on her bed - the boys had spent a lot of time in the Hemmings household in hopes of offering their support, and they now entered rooms as they pleased. Not that they wouldn't have done so before. Calum and Ashton may have knocked if they were feeling generous on that particular day, but Michael had no sense of boundaries.
He wrapped an arm around her shoulder. "Weren't you expecting that?"
Elena shook her head. Of course she wasn't expecting it. How could she? How could she expect all of their fans to love her when they were only there for the boys?
"They love you, Elena!"
Calum couldn't tell her that he and the rest of the band had been searching Twitter at regular intervals, ensuring that every single hate comment was deleted and never reached Elena. It had been pretty easy to do so, however, as Ashton had been right when reassuring the girl - she was loved and adored by the 5 Seconds Of Summer fan base. Unknowingly to the band, however, their families had been doing the same - scouring the internet to rid it of any negative comments and doing as much as they could to help the Hemmings family through their suffering.
In fact, they wouldn't find out until Lauren sent Ashton a quick text the next day, telling him to send her love to Luke and his sister, and that she was doing all she could to destroy the 'haters'. Ashton had never felt more proud.
"C'mon! I'm bored!" Calum whined like a child and Elena rolled her eyes at his childish antics.
"Fine."
She allowed him to pull her off the bed, dragging her down the stairs. He practically threw a jacket at her before pushing her outside the front door, a grin on his face as he did so. A small shout from Luke could be heard - a goodbye and see you later - before the door was slammed shut, leaving Elena slightly confused as she stared at the man before her.
"Where are we going?"
"Ice cream. I want ice cream."
His grin grew even wider, spreading across his face, and Elena wasn't even sure that was possible.
