On Monday night, mom and Maddie arrived just as the note said. We had not communicated whatsoever since they had left, despite mom sending me my list of chores. Maddie offered to take a selfie with me. I politely declined. She scoffed and said that I should be honored to have the opportunity. Ha, yeah right. People don't see who she really is. Maddie is just a character, at home she's a snobby little bitch. I rolled my eyes and went to bed.

The next day
I woke up at my usual time and did my usual morning business. I was feeling quite sick, so I asked my mom if I could stay home.
"Absolutely not. I couldn't stand having you here all day." She bellowed. I sighed and went to my room, which had a bathroom connected to it. I put my hair in a messy bun, threw on a blue PINK shirt, some black leggings, and black nikes. I put on some mascara and chapstick and walked out the door.

In homeroom the teachers announced who would be competing in the talent show. My number was 17 and Maddie's was 20.

This years talent show nominees are numbers: 2, 8, 12, 16, 17, 19, 20, 24, 25, and 27. Congratulations to all and please meet in the auditorium after school.

My heart sank to my stomach. I was filled with meticulous excitement because I made the talent show! But also extremely nervous that I was competing against Maddie. A million thoughts raced through my head about how Maddie could sabotage my act, or how she would gloat  when she won. I quickly shook my head and got back to work.
