Chapter 10

*conversation through text between Brooke and Tyler*
Tyler: What was that all about?
Brooke: wdym? Her mom bribed the judge.
Tyler: no dip, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Brooke please, tell me if there's something going on with Kenzie.
Brooke: If there was anything going on, Kenzie would have to be the one to tell you.

Mackenzie's point of view

I woke up in my room surrounded by blades, my diary, and sleeping medication. Why would my own mother betray me? I knew she was terrible, but that's going too far. I walked down stairs to head out the door after getting ready.

"Mackenzie, aren't you gonna eat?" Melissa asked me.

"No, Melissa. I won't be having breakfast this morning."

"Don't call me Melissa. That's disrespectful. I'm your mother."

"Is it disrespectful to pay the judges of a competition so that your favorite daughter wins?" Maddie shot up and looked at me sorrowfully. Ever since that night in her room, she had seemed a little more distant. Besides from last night, of course.

Maddie's point of view

I've wanted to apologize to Mackenzie for awhile now, But I can't. She wouldn't accept it, and mom would be so angry. I tried to stop mom from bribing the judges... I really did. I just wish I could tell Mackenzie.

"Bye, Kenz." I muttered as she left the house. That's the first thing I've said to her in days. She looked at me, then at my mom, and then slammed the door. My mom gave me a look and then exited.

Mackenzie's Point of view

I didn't walk with Brooke today. I wasn't going to school. I walked along the sidewalk with my phone and $50 in my hand from Melissa's purse. I walked into Starbucks and got the biggest vanilla frap they had. I asked somebody for a piece of paper and a pen, and drew a plan. A plan that would complete things. I was there for hours, and  bought a total of 3 coffees and a muffin. I awoke from the trance that I was in and looked around. It was pitch black. One of the workers walked towards me to sweep under my table.

"What time is it?" I asked.

"9PM." He replied.

"9PM?!?! I've been here for 12 hours?!"

"Yes ma'am. Do you need a ride home or something? You look pretty young."

"No, thank you. I'll be fine." He nodded and walked away.

I walked around for a little, and decided I haven't checked my phone in awhile. I had 12 missed calls from Maddie, 4 from Brooke, 2 from Tyler, and 6 from Melissa. I guess they figured I was lost. I called Brooke.

"Mackenzie? Where the hell are you?" She screamed.

"I've been at Starbucks all day, working things out. I'm coming home now." I replied.

"You had me worried sick. Everyone, really."

"Nah, probably just you and Tyler."

"Call your mom. Gotta go. Bye Kenz."

I hung up and called Melissa.

"Mackenzie Frances Ziegler get your ass home right now!" She yelled.

"Chill the hell out, Melissa. I'm walking down the street now." I sassed back.

"Shut up and use some respect."

I was going to say "why don't you?" But she hung up before I could. I walked in the door and Melissa pulled me aside and slammed the door quickly. She beat me harder than ever before. I didn't cry, I just took it in. Maddie was no where to be found. Didn't matter anyways, she wouldn't have done shit.
