The Long Night

(Warning: This chapter contains self harm.)

Yuuto wished he was back at school away from his mother. He laid on the floor and watched his mum leave him on the cold ground. Yuuto slowly sat up and felt his cheek. Blood was faintly moving onto his hand. He sighed and got up and made his way to the bathroom.

"I don't want Haruna to see this. She'll only ask questions." he whispered to himself. Yuuto washed his cheek and made his way to Haruna.

"Big brother, what happened?" she asked.

Yuuto smiled. "I fell over, but I'm okay, It's nothing to worry about." he smiled.

Haruna smiled back. "Did you say hello to your friends for me?"

Yuuto gave her a weak smile. "I did, Sis, they say hello back."

Haruna giggled. "Can they stay over one time?"

Yuuto sighed. "I don't know, Haruna, maybe soon. But I will speak to mom."

That evening, Yuuto sat at the table with his mother and his younger sister.

"Mommy, I'm hungry." Haruna looked at her mother with sad eyes.

Yuuto looked at his mother he knew she would snap at Haruna. Haruna went up to her mom. "Mommy, I'm hungry!" she started crying. Without warning their mother slapped Haruna on the back so hard that it knocked her to the ground. "MOMMY, IT HURTS!" cried Haruna.

Yuuto went over to comfort his little sister. "Mother, why did you do that to her? She was only asking a simple question!" Yuuto yelled.

"DON'T YOU THINK IT'S HARD RASING TWO CHILDREN WITHOUT ANY HELP? YOU MAKE IT WORSE, YUUTO!!" she screamed.

Yuuto held Haruna closer. "Mother, please, you're making Haruna scared."

Haruna cried into Yuuto's chest. "Onii-san, I'm scared."

Yuuto looked at his sister then towards his mother. "I'm taking Haruna to bed."

Haruna cried more into Yuuto. "Yuuto, I'm hungry."

Yuuto kissed her head. "I know, li'l' sis, I know. But there's very little I can do." he whispered in her ear. Yuuto stayed with Haruna till she fell asleep, kissed her head, then went downstairs and spoke to his mum.

"Mom, Haruna can't keep going hungry to school, the teachers are talking about her, and my friends are talking about me. Would you even care if we were taken off you?"

The older lady smiled. "I would care if I lost Haruna, but if I lost you, I wouldn't even care. You see, Yuuto, you're the reason we got into this mess."

Yuuto looked at her. "How is it?" His red sharp eyes looked at his mother.

A sly smile crept on her face. "I got to blame someone. I can't blame Haruna, can I?"

Yuuto sighed. "I guess you can't." He slowly got up and about to walk away but he was pulled back by his mother.

"Now listen to me, Yuuto, if anyone asks about the mark on Haruna, say you kicked a ball at her by mistake." she dug her nails into Yuuto's shoulder.

Yuuto looked at his mother in pain. "Mom... please... you're hurting me!" he whined in pain. Yuuto felt blood trickling down his back.

"There, there, Yuuto. Better get cleaned up." she smiled. Yuuto looked at his mother and went to the bathroom.

"I need to get Haruna out of here before she's carried out in a body bag." Yuuto cried. He took a razor and started cutting his wrist.

Yuuto watched the crimson blood slip from his wrist. "THE PAIN! IT HURTS!" cried Yuuto. He cried so loud that Haruna woke up.

"Big brother, are you okay?" she looked at her older brother. Yuuto turned away but he forgot to cover his wrist.

Haruna looked at Yuuto's bleeding wrist. "What happened?" she asked.

Yuuto looked at his sister. "I caught myself on a razor." he hid tears.

Haruna hugged Yuuto's leg. "It's okay, big brother, it will be okay." she told him.

Yuuto let more tears out and cried. "Haruna, I'm sorry. I really am." he told her.
