Chapter 46
Unedited
Osas got down from the patrol car with the two policemen and photographer. They knocked on the door and the security at the gate opened up with his brow raised at him. "Una again? Wetin una want again?" He asked and Osas folded her hands while the police showed him a search warrant.
"We have a search warrant to search the whole building"
"The one you guys did before kor?" He asked and Oga Solo turned back at Osas, "No ask me, ask her" "Will you do your job?" Osas snapped and the police men forced themselves in followed by the photographer and her.
Osas felt this negative aura in the air, more than she felt the last time she came. The aura was more like the one she felt the first time! A grin formed on her face, she had hope she was definitely going to find something.
Osas made way towards the room used as a shrine for the ritual but it was locked. She tried peeping into the key hole but it was completely useless. "You won't see anything there" Adetutu replied from behind and she turned sideways looking at Adetutu.
"Adetutu" she called out suddenly getting emotional on seeing her face again. The photographer looked around, "Huh....My name isn't Adetutu, it's Ezekiel or you can call me Zeke" he replied and Osas rolled her eyes, preparing herself for the familiar questions that will troop in soon.
Who the hell are you talking to?
Are you normal?
"I wasn't talking to you"
"Who the hell is Adetutu?"
Osas moved close to her, "Ade we need evidence, any kind of evidence, pictures, anything!" "I told you already to check the graveyard"
The photographer blinked his head, "Who the hell are you talking to?"
"What graveyard?"
"Behind the house,it's a graveyard there. There are no tomb stones or anything. You don't have to dig far, you'll see bodies, our bodies rotting away"
"Thank you"
"Who are you thanking? Are you even normal?"
"No!" Osas replied, "I'm not normal, I'm talking to one of the girls that were killed, you can't see her but I can!" She snapped looking at Adetutu. "Where is the place?"
Adetutu walked away and she followed her.
"Holy shit! Are you like legit talking to a ghost?" He asked now trembling, his head suddenly felt swollen then he ran after her. "Wait for me!"
Osas walked out to the open field, she picked a shovel leaning against a wall. "What are you doing?" Zeke asked and Osas shoved the metal into the soil. "Wetin e look like? Grab one shovel there, start to dey dig"
"For what?"
"Bodies"
Zeke swallowed hard. "You sound so sure?" "Adetutu told me," "How is possible you speak to ghost" "Its a gift." "Wait.... So if you're speaking to a ghost so your claims about this place are right?" "Didn't you believe me?"
"I didn't. I'm only here because I was assigned to do this job, not because I believe you. Wow, does that mean this whole place is swarming with ghost?"
Osas nodded and Zeke shuddered, "Jesus! People are heartless, how can they kill innocent girls like that? These are people's sisters, someone's mother and daughter." "You see why I need Chief Akinola Bello arrested and charged for murder?" She asked digging once again and Zeke dropped the school bag he hung across his shoulder, then he picked up a shovel.
"For Justice" he muttered and Osas nodded in tears, "For Justice" she replied and he dug the ground. After two minutes a foul smell hits his nose and he groaned moving back.
"They are around" Adetutu announced, "Who's around?" "The guards, you guys need to leave"
Osas dropped the shovel, bent down and pinched her nose, she observed a red cloth. Zeke dropped his shovel,"Fuck.... Is that.... " he took out his camera from his school bag and he instantly began taking pictures.
"Drop the camera" Lamar said from behind, Osas and Ezekiel turned back to see two men pointing guns at them. Osas scoffed, "Na the only thing way una get shey? To dey carry gun point person"
"Drop the tools and raise your fucking hands before I blow your head off"
"How Chief Akinola go explain am to the court?"
Lamar stretched the gun at Ezekiel, "Cooperate or he dies" he threatened and Osas raised her hands wondering where Officer Solo and the other officer was.
Shortly after Chief walked in discussing with the two officers, "You don't have to worry about that Sir, everything will be under control. I know what to say and do" "Good. That's why I love the police in this condition"
Osas who was quietly seated on a chair with a gun pointing at her head, lifted her eyes at them then she scoffed knowing they had been bought. "Officer Solo, so you go betray us for his much?"
"Even Judas way be disciple betray Jesus, who you be to me?"
"Even if I be your wife, your kind no get loyalty"
"If you don cry finish you go shut up"
"I hope say the money way them give you, you no spend am finish cause the day way you spend am finish, God go punish you" she snapped and he hissed. "You no go humble yourself before Chief here, apologize for your wrong"
Osas rose up, "If I hear your voice again, I swear, police or not, I go punch your face commot!" "Sit down!" Lamar yelled and she did. "Please treat her nicely, she's a guest here"
"Chief, I know say you be mumu but na now I come sure. Why you catch me? You wan kill me? How you go explain am for court. You're incriminating yourself even more! Wait till Osaze finds out"
Chief shudders, "Eru ti fe pa mi (I'm scared to death). I am scared already." He hissed taking his seat he knew Judas was going to walk in any moment with Obianuju and the lady he caught her with.
Just as he expected, Judad walked in with Obianuju and Vera.
"Edosa, Vera" Osas called out.
In Obianuju's attempt to walk towards her, Judas pushed her backwards. "Sit!" he ordered and Obianuju sat down while Vera remained on her feet.
Judas scoffed, "I don't have the time for this." He held her by the arm, "Get your stubborn ass and sit here" be pushed her forcefully on the chair and Vera groaned.
"Are you mad? Can't you see that she's pregnant?" Osas asked and Obianuju scoffed, "You're even asking, I think he's just as mad as he is blind!"
"Vera are you okay?" Osas asked and she nodded groaning within. "I'm fine" she replied turning towards Judas, "You are a big idiot, a fool who doesn't know how to treat woman"
"I doubt if he's married" Obianuju snapped and Osas scoffed, "Married? Look at his face, can someone like him get married?"
"That's enough!" Chief shouted and they all hissed still insulting him.
Chief Akinola removed a gun shot firing a shot to the ceiling, the shot commanded their silence and Morenike walked in worriedly. She scoffed on seeing Osas, she wondered what stupid move he just made by capturing Osas.
Stupid man! She said within then her gaze fell on Obianuju and Vera.
"What's my daughter doing here?"
"Your... daughter?" Chief asked and Morenike scoffed, "Mom?" Vera asked unconsciously, she didn't call her Mrs Briggs. She tightened her fist, "You're in this? God! Mrs Briggs, what kind of person are you?"
Morenike turned towards Chief, when she got called, she wasn't given details of what will happen. She hated being dragged into something she had nothing to do with. Examining the whole situation, she knew how Chief's plan was going to play out.
Vera noticed her mother arc a brow as though she knew nothing about what was happening, she creased her brow as thoughts crossed her mind.
"What's going on here?"
"Well, my guard caught them together, it's like your daughter was being stubborn so that we don't attract trouble, we just decided to catch them together"
Morenike nodded, "Smart move" she replied and Vera scoffed, "What next?" She asked and Chief smiled from seeing her reaction. "So tomorrow is the fourth case and we don't want any case of we want you to deny everything you have said"
Osas shook her head, "I refuse to do that, you are a murderer and we have proof" "What proof?" "They took pictures of the dead body they dug out"
"Dead body?" Morenike asked then she nodded, trying to keep calm she gave Chief Akinola a look. "See Morenike, yes we are ritualist but we can't afford to be caught. You should understand, that's what we're paying you for to cover this up for us"
"I understand and I get your plans"
"So you'll agree to his plans Ma?" Obianuju asked and Morenike gave a nod. "I won't do it! Those people who died, their deaths can't go in vain. I won't do it!"
"What if I kill your sister" he pointed a gun at Obianuju, "You won't do that" "You think I'm joking"
"You can't kill my"
Chief shot toward Zeke's direction, Osas, Obianuju and Vera screamed. He had been shot in the belly "Wetin dey do you!" Osas shouted unconsciously, she moved towards him pressing his hands against where he was shot.
Zeke groaned in pain, "Put pressure there, you'll be fine!" She screamed, her hands were already bloody. "We need to take him to the hospital. I'll do whatever you want we need to take this guy to the hospital!" "She said she'll do it"
"We'll sign it as agreement"
Osas scoffed, "Someone is dying here and its my fault" "J JJ...j" Zeke struggled to speak, "Justice ..for ...me" he finally said now shutting his eyes.
"Ezekiel" she shook him violently then she rose up glaring at Chief Akinola, "You are heartless!" "The guy is gone. You should think of your sister here before you do or say anything rash"
Osas cried, "What do you want?" "What I want is for you to make another video telling the whole world that you lied to tarnish my image. We'll leave your sister here as leverage, once you get your job done, she gets released to you"
"You can't do that! She's pregnant!"
"So what? Do I care? We'll give her food, shey its till tomorrow?"
"Don't capture my sister. I promise to do whatever you want, if I don't. Feel free to harm my family and friends" she suggested and Morenike quickly picked up from that point. "As much as i hate to admit, she has a point. There's no point keeping her here. I don't think they'll be stupid enough not to follow up with our plans after this tragedy"
"Your stubborn son kor?"
"Even Osaze isn't that thoughtless, women are a force a reckon with. I'm sure she can convince Osaze into agreeing with this plan. I suggest the video be released after the trial tomorrow."
"Why? I'm even saying they should do it now so that we'll bypass the trial"
"What about the joy of watching her humiliate herself in front of everyone in court, the jury and the judge; after all the headaches she has caused? The joy of watching her tell everyone that she made the whole thing up to gain popularity on social media."
Osas cried and Vera scoffed. "You can't do this Mom" Morenike squats before her, "Now you remember to call me Mom" "Mom..." "I think I'm beginning to get used to the idea of being called Mrs Briggs"
"Isn't it evident this man is guilty, is Money all you care about? No mercy for your children, you'll pick money over your own family? What kind of mother are you?"
"A kind who puts her clients first," she replied placing her hands on her daughter's cheeks. "Chief Akinola has paid for my services and I'll see to it that he gets what he deserves" her eyes moistened as she looked upon her with concern.
Vera creased her brow at the emphasis which left her wondering if her mother was trying to pass some form of information. Morenike rose up walking towards Osas, "Game over Osas, it was fun while it lasted now you're going to give a confession, deny everything you said you know. Remember Obianuju's life depends on it"
"Not only your sister oh" Chief added, "Every life of everyone close to you. If you dare betray me and I get arrested, but I'll have my people kill your people. I'll lose but you'll lose too gidigan! (Very well)"
"What do you say?" Morenike asked and Osas nodded. "I'll do it but I have one word for you Chief Akinola Bello" she paused, "One day your cup go full throway, even though no be me go catch you, I know say one day judgement day go reach and you go reap wetin you sow"
"Ja gbo ran jare! (Let's hear word). Oshisco!"
Vera lifted up her gown to the sight of blood down her on her lap. Obianuju gasped on seeing it. "We need to rush Vera to the hospital, she's bleeding"
Morenike's eyes widened in horror. "We're yet to sign" Chief replied and she cuts in, "She should be taken to the hospital right now, anyone that has a problem with that will have me to contend with"
Chief blinked his eyes, "Oh.... Okay"
Hospital
Two nurses pulled Vera in a stretcher while one held Osas back. "Madam, stay back, we'll handle the situation" she said and Obianuju held her back. "They'll handle it" she muttered. When the nurse was sure she wasn't going to follow them again, she left Obianuju alone with Osas.
"She'll be fine" Obianuju noted and tears ran down Osas eyes, "Edosa kor? You dey fine?" "I'm fine" "Sure say you no need to check yourself?" "I am fine sis, I feel fine. I'm just shaken by the whole thing and I'm so disappointed in the Nigerian police system"
Osas sat on the floor then she leaned on the wall, "This is all my fault, all this thing for no happen" "How? You heard what that bloody ritualist said, he had already planned for this" "But I made it easy for him"
Obianuju squat before her, "Don't blame yourself Osas" "Who make I come blame? Ezekiel is dead.... They killed him, abeg tell me Edosa, who make I come blame?"
Morenike walked towards her secretary's desk. She rose up, "Welcome back Ma" "I'm not in the mood to listen" she snapped entering into the house and the secretary kept her mouth shut. She walked into the office leaning against the door. She was completely unaware of Osifo who was seated on the chair waiting for her.
Tears ran down her eyes and she fought to control it.
"Are you okay?" He asked and she gasped in fear.
"Oh my God! You scared me"
"I'm sorry for the fright" he apologised and she shrugged wiping her tears with her fingers. Osifo rose up in worry, he came to talk about Tacha but seeing Morenike cry gave him a cause to be worried. "Honey are you okay?" He asked and she arced her brow in awe.
"You haven't called me that in a while"
"Well.... While the divorce lingers, you're still my wife and the mother of my children. Are you okay?" He asked and she shook her head. "I'm not but don't ask me cause I won't tell you." "Honey" "Please call Vera and ask her if she's home safely"
Osifo suddenly got worried, "Safely? Why won't she.... Morenike, what happened?" "Your son's fiance was digging into facts about Chief Akinola. She was ambushed by his guards and Osaze's secretary, Obianuju was caught as a leverage against Osas so she can....."
"Deny all her testimonies?"
"Yes"
"God! Look at the people you're working for Morenike! What does Vera have to do with this?"
"She was with Obianuju when she was caught"
Osifo dialed his daughter's number, "They let her go" "What about Osas and her sister?" "They are free too" She amswered and Vera answered the call. "Good afternoon Dad" "Hey dear, I heard what happened?" "Who told you? I haven't even called Osaze? Was it Mom?"
"Are you okay?"
"I am, we're at the clinic"
"Ask her if the baby's okay?" Morenike chipped in, "Is the baby okay?" He asked, "The baby is fine" "I'm glad, I think I'll stop by at the hospital or at the house"
"Okay Dad" she replied, "Take care, you guys stay safe"
"Thank you Dad" she replied hanging up and he ended the call looking at Morenike. "The baby is okay" "Thank God. She was bleeding earlier on"
"You do realize you're on the wrong side Morenike, you need to back down and do the right thing"
"I know. If I do, people might get hurt, my children. I've been thinking of alternatives" she exhaled, "I'll hate myself if anything happens to any of them"
"Are you aware Tacha was raped?" He asked and her eyeballs tripled in size out of shock. "What.... What did you just say?" She asked moving back then she held on to the desk as support, so she doesn't fall down. "She was.....r...rape?"
"We just found out about it" Tears ran down his eyes, "I don't know how it happened and I wish it didn't happen" "Who's the bastard who raped her?" She asked, "She doesn't want to tell us. She doesn't want it public"
Morenike finally sat down. It made sense why Joke made those comparisons between her and her daughter. Of course she was aware of the rape! She struggled to remain calm.
"Wh....When did it happen?" "She asked and Osifo shook his head. " I don't know dear. I feel we have failed as parents by letting this happen, somehow, I feel like it's our fault" "Or my fault" "I'm not going to be like those parents who only apportion blames to a side only, I said it before, we'll share the blame for neglect. To think Tacha was going through this under our nose and we didn't know."
Hospital
Vera leaned against Philip's body in the hospital, "I can't sleep here Baby" she said to him and he smiled lifting her chin up. "Hey, I know you're scared but I already told the doctor and he promised to improve the security here. Besides, I'm here to protect you now, any Bagga will have to go through me first" he answered and Vera chuckled.
"Seeing Mom there...."
Philip scoffed, "I can't believe your Mom agreed to such a plan. I thought she could be saved, it just feels like waste of breathe and waste of hope" "Maybe it's not" She replied and he raised his brow. "I'm surprise, you're always quick to judge the woman" "I know but that worry in her eyes and those things she said"
"What did she say?"
"Chief Akinola has paid for my services and I'll see to it that he gets what he deserves. I feel like there's more to that word than the surface" "You think she has a plan?" He asked and she shrugged while struggling to speak.
"Baby, honestly I don't know what I think. Just yesterday I was angry at the woman, yesterday, I hated her, today just seeing that care on her face and how she just made waved everything off. For the first time, I saw that expression of the mother I want her to be."
Osas leaned against the wall fighting off the tears that were about to make way down her eyes. She was lost in thought, it felt like the end of the road for her. She was completely choiceless in this case now! She won't want anything happening to any of her family.
She was even lucky to have Obianuju with her and not taken as captive! What if something had happened?
Tears rolled down her eyes and Osaze tapped her. "Osarieme" she called out but Osas was too deep in her thoughts to hear a thing!
"Osarieme... Osas!"
"What?" She asked slowly glancing at him then she arced her brow. "What are we going to do about this issue? Are we really going to do Chief's bidding?" He asked and she nodded. "What choice do we have?"
"You could have called me,"
"How? They took our phones." Osas answered then she busted into tears. "They should have just kept him alive, that guy must have a family. How will they feel when they're told their son was shot dead? How are we going to tell them their son got shot without raising brows? How?"
"I knew I shouldn't have let you go alone. You shouldn't have gone "
"We found what we wanted, Chief was just two steps ahead"
"And cunny too"
"I'm just .... I feel so stupid to the core"
"Babe" he leaned in closer to her, his head now directly against hers. "It's okay" "It's not okay"
"It's going to be okay"
"How? Ezekiel is dead, because of me" "Its wasn't because of"
Osas shot him a glare that made him keep quiet, "Whether you want to admit it or not, his death was on me! And we can't even give him justice because tomorrow I'll be telling a fake story to all the world. Everyone will start looking at me as a liar. We've lost this...." She trailed off.
"Shhh" Osaze whispered, "We haven't lost yet. There's still hope, as long as we're still alive, there's still hope for Adetutu to get justice, hope for Uche, hope for Ezekiel. We just have to restrategize"
"Our proof is gone. The pictures were in Ezekiel's camera, how are we going to get it?"
"Osas you're the most positive person I've ever met. Stop acting so defeated, I've never seen you this way"
Osas sobbed. "For my very presence them kill Adetutu, still for my very presence them kill Ezekiel and I no fit do anything, I feel completely useless Osaze" "Babe" "I want to be left alone"
"Let's just go back home, you'll take a long shower and a rest"
"I just want to be left alone Osaze, what's hard to understand there? Please, I don't want anyone disturbing me" she hissed walking away. "I'm not leaving you alone"
"Osaze, I carry God beg you, please"
"Osas!" Obianuju called out from afar, Osas rolled her eyes walking away.
"She said she doesn't want to speak to anyone, she wants to be alone"
Obianuju folded her arms, "She's blaming herself for everything, especially putting me and your sister in harms way"
Osas walked toward the gardens she sat on the grass with her legs crossed. Her phone rang, she turned off her phone after she noticed it was Eniola calling. Osaze knelt behind her wrapping his arms across her shoulders.
"I said"
"You want to be left alone but I don't want to leave you alone."
"Osaze... I'm not even in the mood to talk"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. I just want think and cry to myself"
"Okay" he replied walking away, he stood afar off watching her vibrate from sobbing. He couldn't stand to watch her. He knew he had to find one way or the other to distract her, if it was Osas, she wouldn't have left him alone.
He probably would have been laughing from her silly jokes. She was his perfect distraction, Osaze looked around in search of some sort of inspiration for distraction. He plucked out some hibiscus flower placing it on her weavon but she was too deep in her thoughts to feel it.
He sat on the floor looking at her, "I thought you left" "I didn't, I sighted a girl with water on her head so I.... Just had to come back" he answered and she turned towards him, "I don't understand"
"One girl carry water she no know" he sang so she placed her palm on her head grabbing the hibiscus flower. "Seriously Osaze?" She asked chuckling softly and he laughed.
"I just realized you have an amazing bicycle seat head shape, I can drop a cup on it and it'll remain there" he answered and she busted out laughing. "Na your head look like bicycle seat"
"It's a compliment"
"Its also a compliment" she answered now rolling her eyes, "What part of i want to be alone didn't you get?" She asked and he shoved her using her shoulder. "Osaze, are you a child?" She busted into Bini.
"If I was the one in your shoes, you would have disturbed me more than this oh." "I just want to be alone and cry alone"
"If I do that, what kind of person will that make me?" "Didn't you do that last night?" She asked and he nodded in understanding, she had a point. She was bringing up the issue and he knew they had to deal with it that moment; even though it wasn't a good time.
"I'm sorry Osarieme, I'm sorry for last night"
"Osaze, I love you, even God know say I love you. Even when you weren't entirely nice to me, I still fell in love with you. You're the man of my dreams, the man I want to share my life with, the one i want to have all my children with but the truth is, i don't want to get married to someone who keeps getting angry over little suggestions or analysis, or walking away from dinner or breakfast."
Osaze knelt in front of her squeezing her palm, "Don't say that" "I mean it, your reaction last night was.... We are not going to be like those couples who don't speak about their hurts, Osaze I was hurt when you said that thing about keeping Tacha's secret, I expected you to understand more than anyone!" "Baby, I was hurt too, you bringing that thing up, it was really painful, it kind of just made me wonder how long you're going to keep bringing it up. I know women don't forget stuff but it was really annoying rubbing it on my face once again. I just kept on thinking, have you really forgiven me?"
"Of course I have! I don't hold any grudges against you Babe, I didn't know you'll find annoying. I'm sorry" she apologized placing her palm against his cheeks and he exhaled, "I love you Osarieme, you know I do and I'm sorry if I hurt you with my words and action, it's you I want in my life. I know it seemed like I skipped dinner and breakfast, but I didn't. Okay, i skipped breakfast but I scooped some soup from the freezer and I ate in the midnight. It tasted great and it I would have probably snuck in at night to caress you if Omo wasn't there."
"I don't like when couples fight over stupid things"
"Its inevitable, we're going to have more fights but the good thing is that we'll scale through it. That's why I can't leave you alone, I'm not happy over what happened back there and I don't want it holding us back.
Osaze held her hand kissing the back of her palm, "At least you're okay. We'll live to fight another day, I would have hated myself if something had happened to you without apologising to you" "I really don't want to lose anyone else, I don't think my heart will be able to bear another loss"
Chief Akinola was summoned to Chief Kolade Michael's house. He walked in and all eyes turned towards him. "Kings Club" he chanted,"Greater Influence" some answered then he sat on an empty seat. "I hope there is no problem as I was called like this?"
Chief Kolade scoffed, "The news of what you did today came to my hearing" "Ah, shey it's that one? That was has been settled" he replied and Dr. Kingsley shook his head. "Do you realize the gravity of what you just did?"
"I did what we should have done a long time ago. I settled the issue."
Hon Patrick rose up stretching a gun at him, "I say we should just kill this stupid man once and for all and rid ourselves of his trouble. We have a ritual ahead of us and we can't make a move because we don't want anyone on to us and it's his stupid fault"
"Honourable, please put the gun away"
"I say let's end his miserable life once, here and now!"
"Its your life and the life of your entire miserable family that is miserable"
"I say put the gun away!" Chief Kolade yelled and he did. "I hope you all don't end up in regret" "The case ends tomorrow" Chief declared with so much confidence. "And you are sure they won't be trailing you cause if they can get to you, who are we that they won't get to?"
" We don't have to worry anymore about the matter again. Its under control, today I am ready to sleep with my two eyes closed and my mind at peace cause I have dealt with the issue. The case is closed! Completely solved and who did it? Not you all, even with your great influence you guys couldn't pull this string but I did. Relax and watch the movie unfold, in fact I am using this medium to invite anyone that wants to come to the court. Come and see how I handled the situation. I promise you, you'll all be marvelled"
Police Station
Kubiat sat in a room deliberating on police plans towards catching the drug dealers the next night. The thought of calling Osas crossed his mind the moment he saw Officer Solo pass by the office. "Solo!" He called out but he ignored him walking away.
Kubiat had to walk out of the office, "Officer Solomon!" He barked and the Officer halted hoping the detective hasn't been informed about his deal with Chief. He turned back at Kubiat laughing nervously, "Detective" "No be you I dey call since?" He asked and Officer Solo cunningly scratched his head.
"I no being hear oh. I hope no problem?"
"You haven't given me any report on what happened" "Na the same thing oh, no proof Sir, the case no carry power, my advise as officer of the law na make we just forget the matter, I no sure say this Osas girl know wetin she see"
Kubiat glared at him, "If you don't have anything better to do, just shut up and walk away" he snapped and the Officer scampered away. He called Osaze and he picked up. "Oga I'm currently driving now" "Oh. Don't make calls while driving, I'll call back"
"I'm stuck in traffick sha, the call is on loudspeaker already"
"Have you heard from Osas? Her number has been switched off"
"Yes, she did it intentionally"
"Why?"
"She doesn't want to talk to anyone"
Kubiat hesitated for three seconds, ",lWhy? Did something happen?" He asked and Osaze hesitated too. "Osas doesn't want me to tell you, she doesn't want anyone overreacting on her behalf" "What happened?" He asked and Osaze began to explain the whole thing to the best of his knowledge.
"Whaaaat?" Kubiat exclaimed. "That's the sickest thing I've ever heard in my life. I'll get my team, we'll go over to his place and have him arrested"
"Not even try am!" Osas snapped and Kubiat rolled his eyes. "Osas" "I say no do!"
"Are you trying to incure her wrath? She's going along with his plan. She already agreed"
"That's crazy. We can have him arrested, not like anyone was held hostage. This man has nothing on us"
"Osas won't forgive herself if she loses any more soul. Chief threatened that if he goes down, some people will go down too. Its a tough situation we have in our hands, we'll just go with it" He answered and Kubiat exhaled walking towards Officer Solo.
"I'll call you guys back" he ended the call dipping his phone into his pocket then he held on tightly to his shirt pushing his to the wall and all eyes turned towards them. "How dare you?" "Detective, wetin happen?"
He folded his palm into a fist so he raised his hands up in plea, "Abeg, no be my fault. Na devil and fear do am,. You know say this parole na part of our job now, when them make the offer, we just accept am for say make the matter pass, make we still dey alive"
"Kubi" Helen called out and he stretched his free hand at him, "I swear, anyone that tries to stop me will have a bone to pick with me" he snapped and she shrugged tapping his shoulder. "Everyone knows Solo acts like an idio. Just try not to kill him"
"Your job is to protect lives and properties"
"What about our life? Na who go protect our lives? Whether you like an or not, na investment I make and I go reap am plenty"
Kubiat punched him on the face and he fell to floor bleeding from his nose, "Its people like you that makes our job look like a play thing" he replied walking away and his friends knelt to help him up, "And na people like una dey remains poor forever for this business" he grumbled now touching his nose.
"No allow am hear you. Wetin you sef don do?"
Probers Newspaper Publishing Company
Folabi slowly walked up to Eniola who had been waiting for him. "Sorry for keeping you" he apologised and she forced a smile. "Its okay. I get it you're busy, I just needed to speak to someone, I just need to vent" she answered and Folabi exhaled.
"Is this about Chief Akinola"
"Yes, its so not fair on Osas. I went over to the hospital and she didn't even want to speak to me. I feel so bad for her, and I'm angry too but I don't want to do anything stupid" she busted into tears then she instantly wiped them off.
Folabi pulled her close hugging her, personelle passing by stole glances at them making Eniola feel uncomfortable. "Your colleagues are giving us weird looks" "Let them go and hug their own girlfriends" he replied and she chuckled staring at him.
"She's not even picking my calls" he added, "Her number is even switched off now"
"Wow, this is serious"
"I feel really sorry for her, to think she'll be confessing a whole different story to the whole court room tomorrow . I don't even feel like going to the court room" "But we have to give her the full support she needs"
Osas knocked on her father's door, Osato opened up with a wide smile on his face."Aunt Osas, good afternoon" he greeted hugging her and she forced a smile. "Hey Osato, how far?" "I dey" he replied noticing her countenance. "You dey okay?"
"Yes. You just open door, you no ask who the person be, what if say na kidnappers dey door"
"Babe" Osaze called out, "Its the truth Osaze, there are adults in this house, let them answer the door. Times are not safe Osato, no dey open door without knowing who the person is." She snapped leaving and he turned towards Osaze.
"Uncle good afternoon. She's not in a good mood right?" He asked and Osaze nodded. "What happened?"
"How is studies?"
"You're changing the topic"
"I know" he replied shutting the door, "How is studies?" "Fine, I was made the class captain" "I was the class captain most of my years in school, students hated me for doing my job" he answered and Osato nodded in understanding.
"Where's Zuwa?"
"He's doing his homework"
"That's very good. You know in the university it's called class rep or course rep"
Osas walked into her father's room where he was helping Zuwa with his assignments. "Good afternoon Papa" she greeted and Zuwa zoomed off the bed to hug her. "Aunty Osas welcome! You no go believe wetin happen for school today"
"Tah! Use English"
"You won't believe what happened in school today"
"You go come gist me later. Why you no go gist Uncle Osaze first? Him dey parlor, I wan use style talk to Papa" she replied and Zuwa walked out of the room.
"You're gloomy. I don't like your mood"
Osas sat in bed, "Chief Akinola held me me, Obianuju and Osaze sister hostage today" "What?" "Yes. I was made to make a confession on a video denying all of my testimonies. I'll still confess in court"
"That man will be arrested"
"We can't do anything Papa, our hands are tied. If we try anything,he'll hurt my family an friends"
"What about Obianuju and Osaze's sister? Are they alright?"
Osas nodded.
"I'll talk to Osaze. After tomorrow, you two will need to take one long vacation away from this place, even sef, if possible, you'll work your documents to travel away from Nigeria"

Alice walked into Mr Eddie's office to find him arranging his things, "Are you going somewhere?" "Yes. How is school?" "Fine, these lecturers are just rushing us with everything as if its our fault we went on strike. Where are you going to?"
"Lagos"
"Wait.... So what your wife said is true. You're going to Lagos" "Yes." "For that illiterate, that....."
Mr Eddie shot a glare at her, "Its been months will you stop hating her? She hasn't done anything to you!" "Are you sure you don't like her like this? She's obviously using charms cause I learnt she's dating the lawyer that's handling her case. How can she afford a lawyer, she's a slut and a gold digger"
Mr Eddie exhaled, "Osas is none of the above and you know that. You're just blinded by stupid hate! If you didn't go around gossiping to my wife, I wouldn't have fired her and she wouldn't have been in this mess. I'm going to Lagos to support her, I learnt a few others are doing so already. I will show her my physical support, you can go and gossip whatever with my wife, I don't care. Instead of growing maturity, you are growing old and having wrinkles from hating everyone" he hissed looking away and she scoffed.
Morenike knocked on Chizoba's door twice but no one opened up. Shortly after, she opened up with apron worn over her short gown. "Good.... Good evening Ma" she greeted slightly bending her knees. "Is Tacha in?"
"Yes Ma, come in" she replied and Morenike walked In.
"Tacha!" Chizoba called out and Tacha walked out, "Mom?" She asked rolling her eyes, "If what you want is to tell me to abort Chike's child, well you should leave before I ask you to"
"Is it his?" Morenike asked, "Or the rapist child?" She asked and Tacha threw her face, she was now staring at the wall while struggling not to cry. Her mother turned towards Chizoba, "Chizoba, can leave my daughter and I alone and I mean leave the house, I don't want you around any corner, please" she begged and she nodded.
She wore her slippers before getting out.
"Tacha I know I haven't been a good mother,I've been bitchy most of it, controlling but I'm trying my best to do better. I want to do better and I want you to talk to me like you'll talk to a mother. It's just the two of us Tacha, who owns the baby?"
Tacha wiped her tears, "The rapist, but Chike wants the baby. He doesn't mind having it as his child" "Do you want it?" "I don't but Chike....." She trailed off and Morenike cried.
"You could have told me"
"How could I? Mom I couldn't, i was stupid and I knew you would have said the same thing! You wouldn't have understood, you probably would have blamed me"
"I wouldn't have and I would have understood!"
"How?" She asked, "Because when I was thirteen and I was stupid and I was raped too!" She revealed. Tacha's eyes widened in shock, slowly she closed her lips and all that could cone out was Jesus....
Morenike dropped her bag on the couch then she shut her eyes, "It was on my thirteenth birthday, Dad wasn't at home, mom was never the type to play with me, only Nana did and she wasn't at home. I went over to the neighbour's house to play with his children. I didn't even know they were not at home and.... I was raped by the father of my own friend....." She trailed off shutting her eyes.
"He raped me" she laughed in between the tears.
Tacha moved close, "Mom" she called out in concern, "Yeah......" She wiped her tears, "Did you tell anyone" "I didn't want to but Nana found out, but they couldn't do anything because he already paid my father for our silence"
"God!"
"That wasn't even the painful part, I got pregnant and I went through abortion. I was broken by the incidence, I deprived myself of food, I didn't speak to anyone except Nana and then I was taken for therapy so I could heal but the truth is that the wound still feels fresh like it happened yesterday. Even after getting married to your father, even after giving birth to three beautiful children, I'm still scarred"
Tacha cried, "I'm sorry Mom" "Don't be I'm the one sorry for neglecting you like my mother did. I thought I was showing love but I was doing the exact thing my father did, raising my children the same way my parents did!"
She hugged her and they both sobbed there in each other's embrace. Soon they both sat on the couch and Morenike squeezed her palm. "Does Daddy know?" She asked and Morenike shook her head, "I don't want anyone pitying me or looking at me that way"
"The same thing I didn't want. No wonder Dr Joke said we're more alike. I think you should let everyone know, if they do, they'll understand you"
"Understand what? Why their mother treated them poorly? It's not an excuse, I was a bad mother and the truth is, even if i have admitted it to myself, I can't apologize cause they won't forgive me. Osaze hates me, they both do. I don't really blame them"
"Did you hate your father?"
"I didn't, trust me I didn't. I was able to process in my mind that Ihe was doing what's best for me. I thought my children would do the same. You all came out rebellious"
Tacha sniffled, "I didn't until now" "I'm sorry for those wasted years Tacha. You've always been a bad lawyer" she confessed and Tacha laughed, "I'll make up for it" "Who did it Tacha?" "Mom...."
"Who?"
"Denrele Awolowo" she answered and tears ran down Morenike's eyes, "Then it was my fault" "You could have told me" "One, I didn't want to make it public, two after I realized I was pregnant, j assumed if I let you know you'll insist I get married to him because of it"
Morenike sobbed, "Maybe if you had, it would have opened my eyes sooner! I swear, I'll make him pay" "Mom...." "Trust me Tacha, it's been a while since I've done anything the right way. The man who raped me didn't get Justice for what he did"
"What happened to him?"
"I had someone find out about him, I wanted to kill him, that was my initial plan, but the truth is I couldn't. He's an influential man in the government, very influential beyond anything you can think of so I decided to be the daughter my father raised me to be and I played my cards right and I have him under the tips of my fingers."
"I want Denrele to get Justice for his crime, I'm just worried about what people will say about me"
"He's just like his father and he will get Justice for this, I swear, please just let me do this, please?" She begged and her phone rang.
She looked at the caller's ID then she wiped her face. It was General.

Simone walked up to some girls smiling, "Hey beautiful ladies" he flashed a smile at them and they chuckled. "Should I buy you guys drinks?" He asked and they all hesitated. "Hey, I'm not here to harm you, its a harmless request. What do you guys think about champagne?"
One of them raised her brow in shock, "Oga slow your roll, don't buy us something one minute and the next you are out and we'll be struggling to pay" she replied and he smiled calling a bar tender's attention.
"A bottle of champagne for the girls"
"Okay Sir" he bowed his head leaving and they all started smiling. "Oga instead of spending that money, why not give me?" She asked and her friends agreed with her.
"Its not as if we like the taste. Mercy has a point"
Simone smirked, "You know..... I know of a way you guys can get quick cash, it depends if you guys are up for it" "For what?" "I'm a contractor and PA to politicians, all you just have to do for tonight is just keep them company and you'll have 20 k, you might be lucky to get something from them, depending if you meet the generous ones"
They all shared a look, "Are you sure? This ritual news about one girl way them dey call Osas never even end" "And there's that other one on Punch Nigeria news. We don't want to be used for ritual oh"
"Its in an open place, Phoenix hotel. I know I'm a stranger but you can trust me"
Ochuko walked up to him, "Simone my man" he called out stretching out his hands and Simone grinned he shook his hands. "The royal highness himself" "I see say you still dey inside the..." He looked at the girls, "Business"
"That's the perks of being a contract"
"No be small. You being go off the grid"
Simone rose up pulling him away, "I being dey survey ground" "This one way you come out, which girl you want kill this time?" He asked and Simone scoffed. "I no dey kill girls" "No, you dey hand them to the people way go do the job for you" he answered and Simone laughed.
"I hear you snitch on me"
"No hard feelings, e get why I do am"
"That Osas babe shey? Everybody just one die on top her matter. See,this is life, shit like this dey happen all the time, we no fit stop am"
"So if na your sister them use do ritual"
Simone frowned, "God forbid am" "Oh. But na other people sister sweet to die" "My sister no be asewo" "Asewo, no be human being shey? I hope say you know say everything way man do, him go reap?"
"Abeg wetin you dey vomit for mouth sef? Where is Ochuko and what have you done with him?"
" See, I don do my bad, I no perfect. I meet person way start to make me reason life another way, way make me start to dey see women another way. I dey sin, but your sin worst pass my own"
"All sin, na sin. No be my word, na bible talk am so you better mind your sin and I go mind my own" he tapped Ochuko's chest before returning back to meet the girls. "Where were we girls?"
Morenike dialed a number and the receipe not answered, "Hello Morenike" he said, Morenike could hear the fear in his voice and she exhaled, "There's no point having an heart attack over this Honourable Lawrence, I called because i need a favour from you" "What favour?"
Osaze's phone rang in the living room while Osas watched the sequel of Jumaji. "Osaze, your phone dey ring!" She screamed to Osaze who was in the kitchen. What is even doing in the kitchen sef? She thought within.
Osaze got out, he had an apron over the white top and shorts he had on. "You can pick it" "What if its your side chick?" She asked and he laughed. "Tell her I'm cooking then" "Whaat? There's food in the freezer" "I'm making something for you, call it a romantic distraction but.... What can I say?"
Osas laughed, "So you can be romantic" "Ouch?" Osaze placed his hands on his chest, "Haven't I proved that enough?" "When?" She asked laughing and he smiled from seeing her laugh before she switches back to frown mode.
"I'm making something that will blow your mind"
"Okay" she replied and he exhaled, "I love you" "Why ate you saying now? It's wasn't even necessary"
Osaze gasped, "So I said I love you and she said it wasn't necessary, wow Babe, you're going to beg to say it next time" he replied entering into the kitchen and she laughed, "I love you too!" She screamed and his phone rang again.
She stretched her hands to carry the phone from the cebter table. It was Madam Davina so she picked it up, "Aunty Uyi, good evening" "Hey dear. Thank God it was you who picked it. How are you?" "I'm fine" "And your sisters?"
"They're fine too"
"I know they're still angry at me but can you please help me talk to them? Please?"
"I will"
Madam Davina chuckled, "We tried calling your number, it's switched off" "Yes. I did that" "Why?" "A very long story, I don't want to talk about it" "Ochuko said Simone is here, maybe you'd like to get the police to arrest him so he can testify tomorrow in court"
Osas rolled her eyes at his convenience to come out after her agreement with Chief. "According to him, he's trying to mobilize more girls. Normally I don't usually care but knowing what you went through I feel these girls are in danger and he should be arrested"
A lone tears rolled from her eyes down to her cheek then she sniffled. "Chief will win tomorrow" "What?" "I already made an agreement with him, I'll be denying my testimonies" "What?" "Yes. He caught Obianuju and Vera, he said he's going to kill someone if anything happens. I had no choice"
"So.... There'll be no case tomorrow"
"There'll be. I'm supposed to confess first in court and then they'll leak the video" she cried quietly then she turned back to see Osaze by the kitchen door with the tray in his hand.
He walked up her dropping it on the centre table instead of the dinning. "Aunty Uyi, I'll have to go now" she chipped in, "Good night Ma" she added and Madam Davina hung up.
"They found Simone but we can't do anything to him"
"What's going to be is going to be tomorrow. Let's not drown in the result before it even happens. Whatever happens tomorrow, you know I'll always by you, your biggest supporter" he held her hand kissing her palm continuously and she chuckled.
"I'll share in your shame, I'll help you bear your shame" he kissed the back of her palm already. "Let's have dinner" he said tearing Osas' attention to the boiled yam and egg sauce on the center table.
"Wow" she sat on the floor, "Awwwn. Thank you" "I made the yam extra soft, the other day you cooked beans and yam, I noticed you made it really soft"
Osas picked up the fork, she took a dip into the egg sauce then she tasted it. She turned towards Osaze struggling to swallow the salty sauce. "Did you taste it?" "Yes" "Salt finish for market?" She asked and he laughed.
"It's a little salty" "A little? At least now we know where the remains of Noah's wife is located. How many eggs did you use?"
"Five"
"I'm sure say the chicken way lay those eggs go dey vex sef. Oga, make I shock you, even if you use five more eggs, this food will still be salty"
Osaze scoffed, "You're using me to crack jokes, you're rubbishing my romantic gesture" "You killed this sauce with salt and garlic, are you trying to scare away the witches of your village abi na vampire you wan kill?" She asked and he laughed nodding his head.
"Remind me never to cook for you again"
"Don't ever cook again. Ever!" She stood up walking toward the kitchen, "What do you want to do?" "To get the palm oil and salt now. The yam cannot go to a waste"
Nana walked into the study to find Morenike smoking cigarettes in tears. "You're back" She muttered pressing the cigarettes against an ash tray. "I got your message" she began and a faint smile curved her cheeks.
Morenike ran up to her hugging her tightly. "I missed you so much" she confessed and Nana touched her cheeks. "You have grown lean" "Why won't I? I don't know what I would have done without you? I'm sorry Mom for everything, all the disrespect"
Nana smiled and Morenike took her seat, "Have your seat Mom." "I'm okay like this" "How's your family? Will you still go back?" "No. I'm here to stay with my daughter, I had time to reflect on a lot of things and I made up my mind that whenever I come that I won't hold back on the truth, maybe you deserve to know them so you don't take some things for granted"
"What truth?"
"After you got raped, I tried by best to be a mother to you. I wanted you to emulate me, I needed that respect but each day you kept on becoming more like your father, you didn't have regards for me anymore but I kept on being there for you because I love you. Remember after you got raped and I travelled back to the village to get married. I didn't go through with the marriage, not because the man didn't like me, Morenike, I couldn't leave you. Abuja was too far from you. The reason why I've been this single all these years is because of my motherly affection towards you. If I had told you, maybe you would have had regards for me and my advise"
"I'm sorry"
"Do you know how your father died?" She asked and Morenike nodded, "It was an heart attack" "Slowly induced by poisoning" she replied and Morenike raised her brow surprised that Nana could do such a thing. "I didn't do it oh" she replied as though reading your mind.
"I didn't have the stomach for it but your mom did. I'm not telling you to change your opinion about her, may her perfect soul rest in peace. Its not justifiable but she did it for you because your father was getting out of hands, just like you are! Is it until you're poison by one of your children before you so the needful?" She asked and Morenike shrugged.
"You need to patch things up with your family"
"I know, that was why I sent you the message" She stretched a document to her and Nana flipped through it the content made her look at Morenike in shock. "How come?" She asked and Morenike leaned back against the chair.
There was a knock on the door and Osaze glanced at the door. "I'll get it" he answered moving towards the door; "Who's there?" He asked, "It's us" Raymond replied and he opened the door, it was the whole couple gang, Raymond, Obianuju, Ejiro, Kubiat, Eniola, Folabi, Omo, Obinna, Vera ,Philip and Chika.
"Thank God you know you're a horse" Obinna who had a bottle of liquor in his hands answered and Raymond scoffed walking in, "In your mind now, that's funny"
"Abeg make una dey chill small, I know say the matter grave, that's why I brought drinks for whoever wants to drown in sadness" he replied and Omo tapped him. "Try to be considerate"
"What's going on here?" Osaze asked, "Of recent, my house has been turned into a fellowship ground for heart breaks, what kind of fellowship is happening today?"
"Support fellowship" Chika answered and Obianuju cried walking towards Osas, "We came in case you need moral support or any kind of support" "Except financial support cause you are a big Madam already" Chika answered and Osas chuckled softly.
"Since you didn't want to talk to us so we can support through phone calls," Ejiro trailed off, "We brought the support to you"
Raymond dipped his hands in his pocket, "Obianuju has been crying all evening and blaming herself. So the ladies planned that we come here to support you guys" he watched Obianuju embrace Osas and all the ladies joined in.
"Why your mouth smell like garlic?" Omo asked, "I was going to ask the same thing" Eniola added and Osas pointed at Osaze. "Is it not Osaze that wanted to kill me with salt and garlic out of romantic gesture?" She asked and Obianuju smiled.
"Awwwn, that's sweet"
"Have you guys made a final decision?" Raymond asked and Osaze gave a gentle nod. "Not like we have a choice"
Omo exhaled, "We have a choice" "What choice?" Osas asked, "Abeg, no allow me vex" "I think what we need to do is pray and hand this over into the hands of God Almighty" "No be wetin we come they do since?" Osas asked.
"Omo has a point" Ejiro answered, "God had a way of surprising us in ways we can't imagine. I mean let's look at it this way; our lives, how we met. If Chief didn't try to sexually assault Osas, I wouldn't have met her, I wouldn't have met any of you guys, I wouldn't have actually dated Kubiat. I would have still being a bar girl, working shifts to earn money. Osas If Chika didn't bring in that flier that day, you probably wouldn't have met Osaze or your sisters. Everything would have been delayed"
"I would have lost hope and probably returned back to Benin. Omo wouldn't have met with Obinna"
"And I wouldn't have fallen in love with Eniola" Folabi answered looking at Eniola who clutched her fingers with his.
Ejiro continued, "Everything that has happened has happened for a reason, one point of event leading to another and for me, it has been for good. We can't afford to lose hope when we have God, he can still pull up a last minute miracle" she sniffled and Osas cried.
"Let's pray" Omo stretched her hands at Eniola and everyone held hands forming a circle. "Omo, do us the honours" Ejiro said and everyone chuckled.
"God.... The last time we ask say make you prove yourself, we even talk say the last hearing for be our last but ....hmm... We are here again and the truth na say, the thing come taya us, we don come turn to customers for court but we gather here this evening because say we still recognize as the Chief Judge of this world. We no know how you go do this miracle, but as we go sleep, we want make you judge the matter for your heavenly supreme court, I use the name way heaven and earth respect and I say in Jesus name, arrange matters for our sake"
"Amen!"
"Any mind way you need to change to run this show, baba do am before 12 am today"
"Amen!"
"Any man and any woman way you need to delete to make things work for us, delete in Jesus power name we pray"
"Amen!!!"
Osaze' phone rang and he quickly picked up handing it over to Osas. "it's your Imade" he whispered.
"Imade, good evening. Night never come for where you dey?" "So to call you now, na crime" "I hope no problem? Which bad news you don come with? Which uncle die?"
"No one oh, buy if you remember that ma for my street, the one way him pikin being go prison come back like that, him done die oh but no be wetin carry me call. I been wan surprise you"
"How?"
"Guess where I dey?"
Osas rolled her eyes, "Them son mobilize you go Italy shey?" "You no well" she hissed, "I just enter Mama Justice house, i dey Lagos" "Why?" "Why again? You no know say people dey come support you? Naim I no go come, I dey your back, you hear? Just prepare my transport to go back you hear?"
Osas shut her eyes, "I ..i hear" she answered ending the call then she turned towards everyone with a worried look on her face.
Morning
8:03 am
"Ritualist na murderer and the crime dey punishable under the the federal law. Person way kill person suppose spend time for jail" Imade shouted in front of the camera. "Shey we go come fold our hands, watch the guilty party go scot free?"
"No!" Everyone chorused.
"What if say e come happen to our children?"
"God forbid!"
"Na why we dey stand today talk say we dey Osas back to say Chief wetin him name be must to pay for him crime oh"
"Yes oooh!!!" They all yelled raising their placards.
Margarette held on to a microphone while staring at the cameras. "Today's date is 23rd of October and it's the Day 4 of the Osarieme ovbiokponwan vs Chief Akinola Bello case, behind me we have a huge crowd, supporters of Osas in here Lagos and from Benin. It's amazing how a person can pull that much crowd from her home town. We also have celebrities here to support her, we have human activitist from Real TV, we have Falz the bahd guy, including upcoming artiste Chike and.."
Justice Lateefa got out the car looking at the crowd, "What's going on here?" "They are supporters for Osas, they are clamouring for justice for Osas and for Chief Akinola to be jail"
Her heart leapt in worry, she wondered how the case will look like cause if it doesn't go as planned, she'll have angry mobs to deal with.
"God help me" she muttered as some police men tried to create space for her to pass.
Osas got out of the car and people hailed her on seeing her. "Justice for Osas, justice for Osas" a man yelled hoping everyone will join him but no one did. "Na wa oh, for American movie now, them for don collect the chorus for my mouth"
"E too long now"
"Osas! Osas!" One chanted and everyone joined in the chant making her feel uncomfortable. Her eyes glanced quickly at the words written on different placards and she thought of how they'll feel after her confession; the shame. She shook her head then she shut her eyes.
