You walked down the street, visions of a pitbull puppy or a ginger cat running around your apartment filling your head. You were overjoyed to be adopting a pet, your apartment feeling lonely. The bell above the door rung as you stepped into the pet shop and you smiled, hearing little barks and caws and meows when you crossed the threshold.

"Hello miss! How may I help you today?"

"I'm just looking for a companion, maybe a dog or a cat?"

"Companion? Can I show you to some of our hybrids first? They're good companions and they need homes."

You thought for a moment, not really knowing whether or not you could handle a hybrid.

"I'm not sure I'm really looking for a hybrid right now, but I'll look if just looking is okay."

She nodded, a somewhat sad smile on her face.

"Of course, right this way."

She led you into the back room of the shop, unlocking a door labeled 'hybrids' and pushing it open.

Unlike your arrival into the pet area, the hybrid room went silent when you walked in. No noise from anyone whatsoever. Their eyes were all locked on you, unnervingly animalistic with their stares.

You passed several clusters of hybrids, and a few solo ones before you reached the end of the hallway. The very last group of hybrids, seven men, jumped as soon as you were in their vicinity, heads jerking around to meet your gaze. They clambered to their feet, some leaning on the others as they looked at you with wide eyes.

"Everything alright boys?" The employee asked, brows furrowing slightly. She wasn't quite sure why they had all jumped to attention, but their eyes were comically large.

They all struggled to speak, words tumbling out of each of their mouths in incoherent sentences.

"We smelled-"

"She's-"

"Her scent-"

"Our mate-"

Phrases were flying out of their mouths left and right, but only the word 'mate' caught the employee's attention.

"Mate? Are you sure? All of you are completely certain?"

They nodded, eyes never leaving you. You felt somewhat insecure under their intense gazes and shrunk in on yourself slightly.

The employee took note of this, taking your hand and leading you to a room off the side with ten chairs and a table. The group of hybrids followed, one rushing ahead to hold the door open.

You muttered a small, 'thanks' and shuffled in, tentatively taking a seat on one of the chairs. The employee was fast but not fast enough as each of the hybrids knocked into each other for the seats next to you.

"Boys! Behave, your goal is to make her like you, not be afraid of you."

They all grumbled, two still shoving the others out of the way, just less noticeably than before. They plopped down next to you, scooching their chairs to be closer to yours. The one on your left, seemingly a big cat hybrid from the jet black ears and tail, plopped their head on the table, ears twitching close to your hands. He gazed up at you, offering you a gummy smile as he met your eyes.

The one on your right, some sort of dog, a husky maybe from the fur color, draped a hand over the back of your chair. He seemed to realize that touching you might make you uncomfortable, so he refrained, but the intimacy was still there.

He shot you a shy smile, little dimples popping out and standing on his cheeks. You smiled back, refocusing on the employee that was across the table from you.

"So ma'am, I'm sorry, I don't think I ever got your name?"

"Y/N." You supplied, clearing your throat slightly before answering.

"So, Y/N, do you know what a mate is? In terms of hybrids that is?"

"Not really."

She nodded, watching as the cat hybrid on your left subtly shifted his head even closer to your hand.

"Yoongi wants you to pet him by the way. You don't have to, but that's why he's being so weird."

The hybrid, Yoongi, lifted his head to glare at the employee before gazing up at you hopefully. You complied, albeit a little awkwardly because you were petting a human being. He let out a large rumbling purr, scaring you slightly because no ordinary house cat purrs that loud, hybrid or animal.

"Anyways, a mate is basically someone that a hybrid is destined to be with. Hybrids can be mated with multiple people, but they only figure out their connection once all mates are in the same vicinity. So they were friends before this, but now that you're here, and you're their last mate, we know that you're all mated to each other. Technically, you can choose to leave them, to ignore your connection, but-"

"What?! Don't tell her that! Do you want us to die?!"

It was a bunny that spoke up, large ears standing alert on his head.

"-But, you didn't let me finish Jungkook, but, that would kill them. Hybrids are much more emotionally connected through mates than humans are capable of being and if you ignored the connection they'd all suffer a long and rather painful death. I really hope you don't do that."

Your head was spinning. You had absolutely no idea what to do. You had come in for a little kitten, maybe a puppy, and now they were asking you to walk out with seven fully grown male hybrids, each of which is not only mated to each other, but to you as well. Your hand had stopped scratching the hybrid's black ears and he seemed displeased, purrs ceasing and head nudging into your hand once more.

"I.. I don't know. I don't want them to die, that would be cruel, I'm just not sure I'm ready for seven adult male hybrids. I wasn't even sure I was ready for a puppy to be honest." It was almost funny but the somber, pleading faces of the hybrids around you prevented any laughter.

"How many bedrooms does your home have? House or apartment, it doesn't really matter."

"Two bedroom apartment." It sounded tiny when you envisioned eight people living there at once.

"Well you can use one bedroom as the actual bedroom, the other as whatever you need after that. Groups of mates are called packs, no matter the species when it comes to hybrids. And packs prefer to all sleep together. I'd recommend pushing two or three beds together so that you can all sleep together. Just my suggestion, but I think it'd work best."

Her tone was almost harsh, a certain finality to it that you didn't like.

"But what about the cost of food and other utilities? I'm just out of college, I'm not exactly rolling in money here."

"The shelter can offer monthly checks to help you keep up with each hybrid. Each one is enough for good food and clothes for each hybrid, and hoping that they don't outgrow too many outfits too soon, you should start being able to save the money."

"I still don't know. It's a big change and I'm not sure I'm ready for it. And again, I don't want them to die, it's nothing personal, it's just that I don't think I can support them well enough."

"Just taking them home is supporting them well enough so far, it's not like they'll get on well if you leave without them. If you want them to live then you have to take them home. I'm sorry Y/N, I know this is sudden and unexpected, but I can't really help what happened."

"Please take us with you Y/N, we'll be good, I promise. But we don't wanna die, please."

A dog hybrid across from you spoke, voice soft and eyes pleading.

"I don't even know your guys' names, why don't we start with that." You realized that aside from Yoongi, and the rabbit that had spoken earlier, Jungkook was it? You realized that you didn't know their names.

"I'm Namjoon. I'm a wolf hybrid." The voice came from what you thought had been the husky hybrid beside you, arm still draped over your chair.

"Yoongi. Panther." Was all you got out of the half-asleep hybrid whose ears you had begun scratching again. He seemed completely relaxed, only now did you notice that his tail was wrapped around your calf under the table.

"I'm Hoseok, I'm a samoyed hybrid!" The cheery voice came from your left, a beaming man with fluffy white ears on his head had spoken.

"I'm Jimin, I'm a corgi hybrid." It was the hybrid who had pleaded you to take him home.

"My name is Taehyung, and I'm a Golden Retriever Hybrid!" He spoke with an exceptionally deep voice, startling you slightly with how happy it sounded.

"I'm Jin, I'm a panda hybrid." You wondered why you didn't guess that before, what you had originally perceived as dark circles from lack of sleep went around both of his eyes in faint markings.

"And I'm Jungkook, a plush lop hybrid." You eyed the fuzzy bunny ears on his head, smiling slightly.

"Well I think you already know that I'm Y/N. I have to say, I'm really really leaning towards taking you home tonight, I'm just scared that you won't like it there, or that I won't be able to provide for you."

"As long as you're there we'll like it Y/N." Namjoon spoke, finally moving his hand to wrap around your shoulders instead of the chair back. You expected to be uncomfortable with the contact, instead feeling pleasantly warmer where his arm touched you.

"Well alright then, I guess we should head home before traffic hits, it is a Friday night after all."

Cheers of victory resounded throughout the room, each hybrid rushing towards you. Before you knew it, you were trapped in seven pairs of arms, two heads resting on your shoulders and one forehead against yours.

You looked into Yoongi's eyes, your forehead to forehead contact more intimate than you had originally thought, but it just felt right, especially after he gave you another one of his beautiful smiles.
