Chapter 2 ~ Prodigal 'Daughter'

"You know, you really shouldn't mess with Jin Hyung when he asks you to do something this specific," Hoseok said as he threw a pebble into the lake, making it bounce 4 to 5 times.

"I swear I'll find out what's going on with that hybrid. I tried to consume her aura but my heart stopped when I did that," Yoongi replied before swinging another pebble on the surface of the lake.

"At least you realise that messing with her is a way to ask for a death wish,"

Yoongi glared at Hoseok and threw another pebble with so much force that it bounced 9 times on the surface of the river.

"Whoa, that's one angry pup," He said and turned towards Yoongi just to see him gone and scoffed while shaking his head.

"Unbelievable," He mumbled before turning and running off.

I swear, if he wasn't a part of the same pack as mine, I would've killed him already

Yoongi thought to himself while sprinting across the woods, back home. He stopped all of a sudden as he felt another presence linger around his own. He looked around and took a whiff off. After a moment, he was pushed hard, flying across, for his back to hit a tree's bark. He whimpered and got back on all his fours and a hazel-coloured wolf squinting its eyes came into view before he passed out.

*The previous night*

"Calice," Julia spoke as she closed the book in her hand and kept it on the coffee table in front of the couch, along with the other open books scattered and overlapping each other.

"Oh, someone's still 17," Calice said as she walked into the room, exiting the balcony.

Julia looked down while scoffing.

"Yeah, and someone still can't stop making puns,"

"Whatever, now tell me, who is this young, ancient wolf you wish to help?" Calice said, in her fresh British-Australian accent.

"You siring me for life says it all, huh?"

Julia tilted her head to the side and took a seat on the couch.

"A lot of it,"

Calice walked to the fridge and pulled out a bottle of Lichi juice. She opened the bottle up and took a sip before scrunching her face and swallowing it.

"Mm! These 20th-century fiends! Why the bloody hell is fruit nectar so sweet here?" She exclaimed.

"Just drink it up if you want, or else, it's your choice," Julia replied.

"Well, well, something surely happened to your accent sis,"

Calice took a seat on the opposite side of the coffee table and crossed her legs. Julia raised her hand a little while her elbow lay on her knee and slipped a ring off its finger.

"How's that?" She spoke in the same accent as Calice while asking her.

"Much better, but why change your beautiful accent?"

"Because I didn't want to get caught while I fled during exile,"

Calice scoffed and placed her elbow on the arm of the chair she occupied. It was quite obvious they went through something that led them to fight and Calice to sire Julia to herself. Wolves cannot sire each other, they can only sire vampires to themselves. It was Julia's vampire side that held the bond intact.

"Tell me, what made you urge for my existence, sister?"

"You want to do what?!" Calice asked as she crossed her arms and got back up from the chair. She neared Julia and leaned down close to her eyes before whispering something.

"I thought you called me here for some fun,"

She clenched her jaw and leaned back up, some green smoke approaching from behind her and her eyes beginning to glow.

"Wait! Don't leave yet!" Julia said as she stood up as well.

"What if I told you he's a protector?"

"Then help him yourself. You're the half-protector,"

With that, she turned into a green light and stormed out the balcony with a whoosh.

"Ugh!" Julia grunted as she plopped herself back on the couch.

All she wanted to do was help Yoongi but the surprising thing was why did she want to help him lift this curse off? She wondered to herself but couldn't quite figure it out yet. She sighed and sat back up and continued reading the books she had scattered out. She picked up the silicus (A book where shamans write their spells) and read through it.

"So the curse has to be transferred to another protector,"

"The nerve to ask me for help," Calice mumbled as she curled her toes in the lake the next evening when the moon was half visible.

She looked around and slipped her hand into the pocket of the leather jacket lying beside her before taking her phone out. She unlocked it and began to scroll through the contacts she had saved. She tapped on a name, 'Rake' and placed the phone on her ear.

"What do you want?" The voice of a boy on the other side asked.

"Yes, I'm going to need everything you have on 'The Curse of Circe' right now,"

"And what do you know about the accent ring?"

"That ring is something you don't need Calice," The boy dodged.

"I know, I am asking because Julia somehow managed to get one," Calice said as she leaned her shoulders down, glowing her eyes and creating a spinning essence in the water as if creating a small whirlpool, the length of half her leg.

The phone suddenly started to beep loudly for Rake.

"Okay, Okay, I'll tell you!" Calice leaned back, placing her palm on the wooden surface and looking at half of the moon occupying its space between the light orange clouds.

"That ring can only be created by a shaman who can alter the components of one's voice, and you know who that is, one and only,"

"Does it overhaul my powers?"

"Calice, I know how much you want her to suffer for what she did but just try to forgive her,"

"I've tried, trust me," Calice replied in a numb tone.

"Liar," Rake said and hung up the call.

"Screw it, I'll just go do it myself,"

Calice turned and followed the aura of the flawed protector, wondering what caused the curse to settle into him.

She knew what the curse was for sure but just a few things such as the curse could only be put into a wolf by another wolf, that it is one that drains one's powers piece by piece and leads them closer and closer to losing it, turning into a wolf that possesses no powers at all. She also knew how painful it can be and that a metaphor followed it all the way,

"They, who carry the last scar of their life, continue to have dreams that drain the mental and emotional strength out of them, leaving its imprint on them,"

But all she wanted to know was how to lift the curse off and that could mostly be in the knowledge of a shaman who practices dark magic. She knew about shamans because she had faced many, who tried to place a curse on her but she made it out every single time because she knows that without her powers, all her sire bonds would break. It didn't occur to her at first but on the bright side, it could also rid her of pacio, the event she was longing for and not longing for as well.

She let herself freely run to the aura as she felt it near and near, also feeling it was active, in wolf form and running. She came from his side and shoved him with all her might. He whimpered and passed out before she turned back.

"Perfect,"
