Chapter 8: The Big Bad
Okay I was seriously going to kill Alastor.
Currently holding the remains of my phone that I barely had for more than a week. He actually crushed it because I was scrolling through my music to put on something to listen to in my off time. "Are you kidding me?!"
His laughter echoed across the walls. "My dear it was distracting you. I can't have my lovely assistant distracted now can I?" I dropped the now broken device to the group and gripped my hair "I was just trying to listen to music! You can't just keep stealing my things and breaking them!"
His eyes took on a sadistic gleam to them as I glared up at him. "Darling, do you forget who you're speaking with?"
"No, I don't. You're infuriating, you know that!" I snapped storming away from the lobby. I needed to get out of here. "Whoa, baby cakes whats up?" Angel asked, confused looking between the two of us.
"Ask the strawberry pimp." I snapped slamming the kitchen door shut behind me. I needed space. I needed fucking air. But everywhere I turned that bastard was there.
As soon as I left the back door to the hotel I yelped, feeling my body being slammed against the brick wall, air was slowly becoming scarce. Black tentacle like tendrils wrapped around my throat squeezing like a boa constrictor. "Darling, darling..." Alastor's voice was eerily calm, amusement and agitation dancing in his red eyes. "My dear girl," the static was thick surrounding his voice. I watched with wide eyes as his eyes shifted to radio dials as a thick layer of droll dribbled past his lips.
"Unless you wish for your screams to be broadcasted across all of hell," He spoke slowly as if talking to a child. He stalked so close he was fully invading my space. I could feel my vision turning spotty, how I was still awake was a surprise. "I would watch your tone."
What was I supposed to do? I couldn't exactly nod or say anything. "Do you understand?" He blinked and his eyes had returned to normal, no longer black and red. I wasn't sure how he was able to do a complete one eighty but he was perfectly content to watch me struggle.
The black tendril slowly slipped away from my throat, it turned out to be the only thing supporting me because as soon as I was free from his magical voodoo I was on the ground coughing and gasping for air. Clutching my throat I was breathing in dirt but I didn't care. I couldn't stop coughing. "Now then, as much as I do hate to punish you darling, I hope you have learned your lesson." He smirked inspecting his staff boredly. "We'll have no more of this attitude, I would hate to have to punish you again." he chuckles squatting down to my level, droll from before still dripping down his chin. I could practically see him hoping I'd mess up again.
Staring at the ground my body shook. Alastor was fucking terrifying. "Splendid! I knew you'd understand." he barks out a laugh and stands to his full height. I needed to get away from him. I needed to feel safe again. "Now then, I'll be off on my daily stroll. Tah, tah."
As soon as he was gone I curl into a ball. Tears sprung free as I tried my best not to hyperventilate. 'I knew Alastor was scary before but, this, this is horrible.' Clutching my sides I couldn't feel my nails piercing my flesh, I was numb to everything around me. All I could feel was pure panic.
I couldn't escape. I was trapped. Trapped under his control, trapped to be some kind of pet, some form of entertainment for him.
I needed to go, go somewhere. Anywhere I could be alone.
Standing on shaky legs I slowly made my way down the large hill that the Hotel sat upon. Ragged breaths could be heard as I stumbled through town. Someplace safe. Someplace Alastor would never be. I ignored demons around me giving me strange looks.
All I could do was walk. I didn't even want to know what I looked like, I knew I looked a mess but who gives a fuck. In the middle of town there was a small hobby shop which is surprising since Hell should be filled with business people and hobby enthusiasts.
Walking inside I moved through the aisle until I was in the yarn section. I had no idea how to knit or Crochet but maybe I should learn. There isn't much to do at the hotel when we're having some down time. "Excuse me," a velvety voice slipped through my ears as a long arm reached forward to grasp a bag of yellow feathers.
Trailing my eyes up the arm there was a man in a large hat with an apple on the front. He had a small excited look on his pale face. Short blonde hair that was slightly curly, and poofy at the top.
He wasn't that tall but maybe I'm just basing that on everyone of those giants at the hotel. His pale face and red eyes are what caught me though. He looked...almost exactly like Charlie. His red eyes traveled towards me and his once excited smile dimmed. I watched curiosity dance through those ruby eyes.
We were staring at one another unsure what to say or even do in this situation. "Are you...are you Lucifer?" I struggled to speak quickly, reaching up to grasp my throat. "I am..."
Giving a small smile in greeting I forced my hand away from my throat "You're Charlie's dad. Nice to meet you." I extend my hand for him to shake, half expecting him to brush me off.
"You know my Charlie?" His eyes perked up excitedly. His large hand enveloped mine with a hard shake. "How is she? Is she okay? I haven't heard from her since I asked her to do the meeting." He seemed excited to talk about his daughter. It was adorable, anyone with eyes could see that this man loved his daughter. "She's okay..." I coughed in my hand cringing at the grating sound my throat made. "She's trying to come up with different ways to stop the extermination. You should come to the hotel and check it out."
His mood shifted from excited to nervous. "I...I can try. I'm just very busy at the moment." Nodding my head I shrug my shoulders "I get that." Cringing again I clutched my throat. "Sorry," I apologized. I hated how I sounded, I hated more how I was making a fool of myself in front of the King of hell.
"It's okay...what..." he paused unsure what to say now. "What happened? If you don't mind me asking." I opened my mouth to speak but closed it again. It was surprising to hear his concern. "The uh...the radio demon didn't like my attitude..." I mumble wishing I had a cup or water or something.
I watched curiously as he reached out and grazed his fingers over my throat. It was like magic. As soon as his finger touched my throat I felt better, better than better, I felt fantastic! My jaw dropped as I touched my throat not feeling any sort of pain. "Whoa! Thats so cool!" I smiled brightly pulling my hand away. "Thank you so much."
I was entirely grateful to him, he was kind towards a sinner in hell something I wasn't expecting at all. "Of course, you're a friend of Charlie's."
"So what brings you here? And feathers?" I asked nodding to his bags of yellow feathers. "I'm building something spectacular,"
"I bet it will be. Hopefully one day I can see it around Hell." I smiled grasping some yarn checking the texture to see if I could work with it. "Perhaps one day, what are you looking for?" I let of a silent hum as I scanned the yarns. "I'm not really sure. I think I'm going to try to crochet something."
It was so strange having this conversation with the literal devil but not bad. "Do you have the tools?" scratching my head I look for some tools. "No but I can get some today..." I heard the man beside me laugh, it sounded so pleasant, so wonderful to hear. "I remember when I was in that faze. It's not hard once you get the hang of it."
I couldn't help giggling at him. "Well how's this, if you ever come to the hotel I'll show you whatever I'm working on and you show me what you're working on." I offer holding my hand out for him to shake. 'Am I being too forward? I barely know the man.'
"I suppose I'll have to come one day...Does she, does she talk about me?"
He must be talking about Charlie again. Pulling my hand away from the actual fucking devil I place it by my hip."When I first came to hell, I was asking Charlie a bunch of questions about Hell and what to expect. She would tell me stories of growing up here." I explained softly. "I know she'd be happy to see you."
I watched him try to hold back tears "Wonderful!" he barked out a fake laugh looking away to wipe his face. "It was nice talking to you sire? Lucifer? Uh? Your highness?" I mumble the exit unsure what to actually call him. I didn't want to hold him up, he must be busy. "You can call me Lucifer."
"Lucifer it is,"
"It was a pleasure talking with you as well..." he gave a pointed look waiting for something. "Oh!" He must want my name. "Emilia, but I go by Emmie." I explained. "Emilia," The way he said my name made shivers run down my body. Why did it feel so nice hearing him say my name?
I felt my face flush a bright red and started to laugh nervously. "Yep! T-thats me." I fumble with my words as I back away, bumping into the display case. "Would you like grab a cup of coffee?" He asked taking a tentative step forward.
"Coffee?" My face flushed even brighter. He wanted to stay talking with me?! "Or we could meet again, if you'd like." Stepping forward again I nodded my head "That would be nice. Do you have a phone?" I asked hoping to get his number so when I got a new one I could put it in my contacts.
"You aren't going to spam me with messages at four in the morning, are you?" he had this confident smirk on his lips. He looked even more handsome right here and now. So much better to look at than the family picture.
"Only if you ask me to." I grinned, shrugging my shoulders as I threw my hand on a pile of yarn, feeling it tumble to the ground. "Please ignore that." I whisper quietly. My confidence was slowly slipping out the window with every fumble and mistake I made.
Lucifer's laughter fills the small store as his shoulders shake. "What's your number?" He was trying to be nice, holding back his laughter as best he could, though it was hard with the trainwreck that is my life. "I don't know yet, I need to get a new phone today." I answer truthfully. "But I can get your number from Charlie, so if I don't get it today, I'll have it tomorrow."
Lucifer's smile was infectious, I felt myself relax around him. He wasn't so scary but there was this over all fear that being the literal king of hell that sent my body in nerves. Like he could destroy me in a matter of seconds but he acted like a little goofball right now.
It was a strange dilemma going on in my head.
"I suppose you're right, but as soon as you get one I expect pictures and updates." he used this fatherly tone that made me giggle. "Okay, but the same goes to you. I want to see this project you're working on."
"It's a deal."
"So coffee?" he asked nodding towards the exit. "Shouldn't we pay for this?" I asked nodding towards our materials. "Hell darling," shivers ran down my spine hearing his words. "Maybe..." I grab some tools and walk to the front paying for my supplies. I was doing my best to ignore the inquisitive stare that Lucifer was giving me. I could almost feel his eyes burning into the back of my skull.
When I was done we walked out of the small store and towards a coffee shop. Lucifer had walked with purpose while I was looking around us to see if anyone would pop out at us. "What are you doing?"
I flushed looking at my feet. "Just checking to see if we're being followed. I figured since you're well, you, demons would want pictures of you in town?" It was a pretty pathetic excuse really but I wasn't sure what would happen. Lucifer was walking with me! A literal no one.
"Don't worry about it, I'm sure they have other important things than to photograph us." he smiled, easing my worry. But it left me with a thought, why would Lucifer not think he'd be top news? "Stay with me and you'll be fine." He extended his arm, making me flush again.
He was offering his arm to me!
'This has gotta be a dream. There's no way the literal king of hell is offering his arm to me!' I slowly, tentatively grasp his arm and could feel the warmth under his clothes. His suit jacket felt so nice, it wasn't as light as silk, it was more of a cotton-like feel mixed with wool, not the scratchy kind either.
I wondered where he got his suits, I'd love to get my hands on one. "Why don't you find us a table and I'll grab us some drinks?" He offered when we made our way to a local coffee shop. I couldn't believe we were out in public together. I was sure he had something better to do than waste time with a low life demon like me.
"O-Okay," I stumbled away from the man cringing when I ran into a table. All I could hear was his chuckles as I fumbled. 'Oh god, why am I doing this to myself?' I groan finding an empty table and sitting down to hold my head. I was so stupid. Making a fool of myself in front of Lucifer.
'What do we even talk about now? Back in the shop was my A game and I made a total fool of myself!' Taking a deep breath I raked my fingers through my hair feeling my nails dig into my skull. 'Okay, relax Emmie, he's just a guy.' I told myself as I looked over towards the man. 'Just a guy who could rip you in half with his pinky if he felt like it.'
Lucifer looked annoyed staring at the demon in front of him.
"What's he doing here?"
"Isn't he usually cooped up in his palace?"
"Wait who is he?" a random demon whispered joining the conversation. "Thats Lucifer nimrod. King of Hell Lucifer."
"But why is he here? Do you think it has anything to do with the new extermination day?"
"Maybe..."
I heard them start to panic as he walked our way. "Shit, shit, shit! Keep your head down!" The male hissed smacking his buddy. "Here you go," Lucifer extended a paper cup of coffee my way. "Thank you," Glancing at the group of demons beside us. I could see they were sneaking glances our way. "Would you like to walk? I'm pretty sure everyone here will be staring."
Lucifer looked at the group of demons beside us. We watched them jump and tremble in their seats. "Sure, I wouldn't want anyone listening in."
Standing from the table we quickly walk out of the shop. "So Lucifer," his red eyes glance in my direction. "I've been wondering can you turn into a snake?" I watched the man try to contain his laughter. "We-well in whatever biblical story I-I heard you were a snake..."
"Yes. I can turn into a snake. That part your bible got right." scrunching my nose at his words I look away. "Yay to the bible thumpers," I muttered distastefully. "Not a fan?"
"Religion was forced down my throat most my life. It's probably another reason I was sent to hell." Glancing down at my arms I tugged my sleeve further down my wrist. I didn't want to see the long black marks dragging down my forearms.
My proof of death.
"Ah, well it shouldn't matter anymore right? You're dead." Nodding my head I took a sip of the bitter coffee. "I mean yes, but I am trying to do Charlie's program. Mostly to see my Stella again."
"Stella?"
"My dog, she helped me through some very hard times..." I could still see her face. Her yellow fur, those chocolate brown eyes, she was such a gentle giant. It was awkward now. "Anyway, yeah I don't know if it'll work but you gotta hope right?"
"Emilia, I love Charlie's hopes and ambitions but...but it's not possible." Looking back towards the man beside me he wasn't happy, he was glaring at the people around us. "These sinners, they're here for a reason. As wonderful as it might be to go to Heaven..." His hand clenched around his cane. "It's not possible."
I didn't want to argue with him, he knew more than I did. He must have. "Well...then I guess you'll have to deal with me a bit longer." I didn't want to believe what he said. I believe in Charlie's dream. I'll make it to Heaven one day, I don't know how long it'll take but I'm willing to put in the work.
"I suppose I will," I felt my face flush a bright red as he stared down at me. We were so close together, his right hand brushing against my left. If I shuffled just a inch closer we'd be shoulder to shoulder. "So this project you're working on, can I have an idea on what it'll be?"
His smile returned it wasn't large like Alastor's, it was small but cute. It made him look precious. "Well, normally I charge a sacrifice for answers are you willing to sacrifice anything?" He smirked now. "I can sacrifice my coffee that you so graciously got me." I grinned trying to be cheeky.
Snickers left his lips. "You're drinking it still."
Looking down at my cup I shrugged. "Yeah you probably don't want my backwash. How's this? If you come to the hotel I'll make you something."
"You cook?"
Shrugging my shoulders "I try, I like to say I'm an amateur chef. I can-" A large black hole opened up under my feet making me squeak. "Not again!" I scream falling flat on my face. "WHY?!" I scream into the floor, my coffee splattered into the ground, pain searing through my skin as blood gushed down my face. AGAIN.
"Pleasure to see you as well darling." I hissed slowly getting back to my feet clutching my face. "I think I'd be in a happier mood to see you Alastor if I got some warning before you portal me somewhere." I mumble pulling my hand away from my nose to check the bleeding.
"Perhaps but as I've said before. Where would the fun be in that?" Shaking my head I rubbed my hand over my nose "Yeah, fun, fun, fun." I mumble taking a few steps back to keep the distance between us. I still wanted to be away from him. I didn't know what kind of mood he'd be in, if he was actually happy or if he was still angry from earlier.
I felt his nimble fingers grasp my chin lifting my face to meet his gaze. "You seem to be in better spirits darling. Don't tell me due to my departure."
"No...I got supplies for a craft...Fuck I dropped it when you transported me." I pouted slumping my shoulders when I didn't see my bag. "Oh silly me." He chuckles waving his hand and like fucking magic my bag of supplies appears. "Thank you,"
"Of course my dear. Now then, shall we?" He was off again walking somewhere within the hotel. I wasn't even sure what I was going to do but all I was certain of were two things.
One. I was going to somehow message Lucifer and apologize for my sudden disappearance.
And Two. I was going to take the longest shower in Hell's existence and possibly use up all the hot water.
Possibly three, I'd steal a book from Charlie or Vaggie and curl in bed reading before I fall into a dreamless sleep.
So sorry for the late post, I try to post every few days when I get a chance to but this week has been complete shit. I had a serious math test and I've been working on my informative Speech but any who hope you liked this chapter though.
