Chapter 11: The Dance
"Damn Vaggie you look hot!" I exclaimed, staring wide eyed at the woman before me. Vaggie was dressed in this mini nighty shirt. "Emmie please, it's just pajamas." She had a slightly embarrassed look to her at the compliment. "I know isn't she just incredible." Charlie gushes wrapping her arms around Vaggie from behind snuggling into her neck. Vaggie flushed a bright red looking away "Charlie please,"
"Hmm, not too shabby Vagina." Angel smirks looking her up and down. Everyone was looking good. Charlie was wearing her silky red pajamas that clung to her body like a second skin, Angel was in some hot pink booty shorts and a tight pink tank top.
I swear everyone here was just fucking hot. I was dressed in some baggy gray sweatpants and an oversized black sweatshirt. My hair was pulled up out of my face in a bun with strands falling in my eyes. I loved wearing my bum clothes but standing here now maybe I should have dressed up a bit? Meh, probably not.
Angel and I made our way to the couch and got settled in our seats. Angel was scrolling through his phone or my phone or someone's phone. I don't know. "I got the snack station all set up!" Charlie giggles, zooming to the couch and sliding in beside me. "Nice, lets start this!" Charlie and I snuggled up together and Vaggie pressed play.
Right off the bat this play was hilarious. Angel who was mostly on his phone even let out a few laughs. This just felt so wholesome, like we were already a family staying up late watching a movie together, trying not to be so loud to wake the parents (though in this case I'd say Alastor was the dad).
I wasn't sure when or how Angel got Charlie's phone but when the man jabbed me in the ribs with a triumphant smirk on his lips I was surprised.
He scrolled through her phone for two minutes somehow cracking her passcode (note to self tell Charlie to change her password) and adding the numbers into my new phone. I knew I had to message Lucifer, I felt a sense of terror. I wanted to message him. I wanted to see how he was doing and apologize profusely for my disappearance.
He seemed so sweet and excited. He probably wasn't used to people treating him like a normal person. So I knew I had to message him soon but what would I say? How would I word it? The movie was completely forgotten at that moment.
My thumbs would write messages and completely erase them before I just gave up and quickly sent the next one.
Me: Hey Lucifer, it's Emilia. We met at the hobby shop the other day.
I bite my bottom lip just waiting for a response, maybe he wouldn't even see it. Maybe he didn't remember me? There were so many possibilities that its stressing me out. I toss my phone on the table. I can't just trust that he'll respond. He might be asleep.
Taking a breath I look back at the screen. The movie was almost over. Vaggie and Charlie were snuggled up looking sleepy but content. It wouldn't be long till they head to bed.
Ping
My phone buzzed, all I could do was zero in on that device on the table. Would he remember me? Would he be mad? Biting my bottom lip my hand shook as I reached for the device. His name on full display, but oh lordy I was terrified. What if he was mad at me?
Lucifer: Oh, I'm surprised you reached out.
Me: I wanted to apologize for how I disappeared last we saw each other. I can't control when I'm summoned unfortunately.
All I could hope was that he understands. Looking over at Charlie and Vaggie I found them dozing in each others arms. They looked so cute. Snapping a quick picture I was happy to see them be so precious together. I may send it to Lucifer but I also might just keep it for myself.
Me: I was able to get a phone earlier today and I ended up being summoned away from my friend. I hope you can forgive me.
Was I texting too formal? I hope not. I don't know what else I was going to say besides sorry. Grabbing the remote I paused the movie and started to clean up. "Hey we were watching that!" Charlie whines mock glaring at me. "Yeah the inside of your eyelids make a great movie."
I counter. "I was not sleeping!" She gasped offended. "No but Vaggie is." I nod to her girlfriend who passed out at this point. "Hmm," she started to think it over before nodding. "Maybe we should call it a night."
"Yep, you guys head on up, I'll be up in a minute."
Angel stood stretching his limbs letting out a yawn. "Night baby," he smirks walking towards the elevator, a swing in his hips. "Are you sure you don't need any help?" Vaggie asks even though she was exhausted.
"All good, you guys get some sleep." I wave watching them head to bed. Stretching my arms above my head I let out a small sigh moving about the lobby cleaning up the small amount of mess we made. "My dear, shouldn't you be off to bed as well?"
I jumped. I literally jumped off the floor. "For fucks same Al!" I cried, clutching my chest, feeling my heart hammer away. His whimsical laughter filled the room as he appeared out of thin air. "Why do you always have to scare me? Cant you just walk into a room like a normal person." I pout staring at the giggling man.
"Where would the fun be in that?" He smirks, tossing his cane in the air and catching it with ease.
Taking a deep breath "Why aren't you in bed? Or does this have to do with some Wendigo shit?" I started to fold the few blankets that were out. "Hmm? Oh don't you worry darling, I shall sleep later tonight."
He was still dressed in his suit, having not changed at all. "You don't sleep in that, do you?"
"Of course not darling, I would look awfully funny if I were to sleep in this." He gestures to himself, making me giggle a bit. I felt my phone ping in my pocket but knew better than to pull it out and check. There was no fucking way I was going to let Alastor break this one anytime soon. "So what are you doing down here at this hour?"
He strolled around the lobby moving around me as I cleaned up our mess. "Curiosity mostly," Nodding my head I moved to the kitchen carrying the popcorn bowls as well as some of the random sour candy bags. "Curious about?"
"Why you enjoy sitting around watching that picture show of course. You know it rots the brain." He informs me in a matter of fact tone. "Well yes, it can most definitely rot the brain." I agree making him smile very amused. "But, its fine every now and then. You even said you used to watch a 'picture show' back when you were alive."
"I did indeed, but it was very rare for someone of my...status." Squinting my brows confused I wasn't sure what he meant by that. I didn't know much about Alastor's history. He didn't share much about his past except his love of his mother, as well as his popularity of his radio show.
He was a very secretive man.
So was he trying to share his past with me? Was he willing to divulge more of his history? Turning around I found him directly behind me. "What was your human life like? If you don't mind sharing." I jumped on the counter as Alastor moved around me, draping his jacket over a coat hook that he just materialized out of nowhere.
My eyes zero'd in on his forearms as he rolled his sleeves up. "My history? Darling you know my history." He laughs moving to the sink and surprising me as he starts to do the dishes. "I uh..." Shaking my head I had to clear my thoughts. "I know how much you love your mother and that you were a radio host. That's all really."
His head cocked my way as he let out a small 'hmm' sound. "My human life is not as impressive as you think it might be dearest." My face flushed when he faced me fully. "Maybe not to you, but I'm interested. You know I love history." I remind the man swinging my legs back and forth. "My history is not mythology." He shot back.
"History is just mythology that has been tweaked to be a bit more interesting, more memorable." I smirked leaning towards him with a shit eating grin on my face. "I suppose that is one way of looking at things." He chuckles before humming a small tune to himself. It actually sounded somewhat familiar. I don't know where I had heard it before but I know this song.
It sucks that Alastor wouldn't share his past with me, I guess I just haven't reached that level to learn his backstory just yet. Hopefully one day.
"What song are you humming?"
"West End Blues," The name even sounded familiar but it was so faint I feel like if I said I know the song I'd be considered a liar. "It sounds really nice, did you play this on your radio show?"
"Indeed I did, it was one of our more popular songs by Mr. Louis Armstrong." I felt like smacking my head now. "Did you ever get the chance to meet him?" Louis Armstrong was considered to be one of the best Jazz Musicians in the world! "Once, he played at a club I used to frequent. My friend was kind enough to introduce us. Marvelous man, simply wonderful. If only I could have gotten him on my show." He sighed almost mournful for his missed opportunity.
"Life went on, still he was a wonderful entertainer." He clicked his fingers and the radio came to life playing West End Blues. "Care for a dance?"
"I can't dance." I admit looking away. "Got two left feet." I was not going to embarrass myself with my horrible dancing. "Nonsense!" Wet hands grasped onto mine pulling me to a standing position. My face was once again a bright red at being so close to him. "Anyone can dance darling, you just were not giving the correct dance partner."
Looking up at his face he was staring down at me like I was the only person in the world. I wasn't sure how to react. "Now just follow my lead." He placed his hands on my waist while mine were on his shoulders. He moved us slowly back and forth to the beat of the music. I looked down at our feet to make sure I don't step on him.
"Eyes up darling," he informs bringing my attention back to him.
We moved around the kitchen easily, it was nice. Pleasant even. The soft thrum of his heart beat could lull you into a sense of security that I was safest right here in his arms. His eyes had this hypnotic feel to them, I was supposed to never leave him. I was supposed to be with him forever.
It was like something was trying to compel me to be with him and only him. To listen to him and trust in only him. Even his scent was calling out to me.
As the song ended and the swaying stopped and we just stood in each other's arms. He continued to stare at me like I was the only person in the world. Hypnotized.
"Like I said my dear," He spoke low, forcing me to strain my ears. "You were just in need of a correct dance partner." Blinking, I stepped back slipping out of his hold. "I-I guess you're right..."
A satisfied smirk painted his lips as he watched me. "Now then, my darling. Off to bed, we have a busy day tomorrow."
"Right...Goodnight Alastor." I whispered backing away from him, never taking my eyes off his. "Goodnight my darling." He gave a closed eyed smile cutting our staring contest off. My breathing had stopped as I turn on my heel and walk to my room. My mind was racing.
'What was that? Why did I feel that way?' I wondered to myself, hugging my arms. 'Did I really think that I felt safe with him.' Shaking my head, some of my hair fell out of its bun and flew in my face. I couldn't trust Alastor. 'I can't trust him. I can't let that happen again.'
Falling face first into my mattress I curled up into a ball staring at my wall cuddling my pillow. "Why did it feel so nice?" I whisper, clutching the pillow closer to my chest.
Alastor terrified me, he could flip flop his emotions so fast it can give you whiplash. I've been on the receiving end of his anger, I know the damage he can do. So why? Why did it feel so nice being around him like that? 'Fuck! My hearts still beating like crazy.'
Stuffing my face into my pillow I try to calm myself down. I cannot let this happen again. I just can't. I know better. But that doesn't stop my heart from acting the way it does. 'I can't trust him. I don't know what his end goal is, I can't let him play me as some fool. I need to be stronger than this.'
Pulling her phone out of her back pocket she saw she had two messages from Lucifer, she wondered what he had responded. Had he accepted her apology? Was he upset with her? And he was cursing her out? Biting her bottom lip she opened the message and felt herself sigh with relief.
Lucifer: I appreciate your apology but there is no need.
Lucifer: If you would like to meet for coffee again I would not be opposed. Maybe then you can see what I've been working on.
Shooting to a sitting position I pulled my phone close to my face to read the messages over again. Relief flooded my system knowing he wasn't mad at me. Quickly responding to his message I wasn't sure if he was in bed or not. I didn't want to wake him but I wanted to talk to him some more.
Me: I'd love to go out for coffee again!
Me: Though I'll be buying this time since you did last time.
I started to relax, tossing my phone on the end table and throwing the blankets over top. Snuggling into my pillow I let out a sigh of relief. Sleep taking it's hold on me, I curl into an even tighter ball and felt myself relax completely.
Maybe this day wasn't too terrible at all.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry for the short chapter but I've been thinking about this all day and wanted to get it written down. Also hopefully soon enough we'll learn why Emmie only has part of her soul as well as Alastor's true reason's for keeping her around.
