CHAPTER 8

I needed to make it right with Addison because if I carried on like this, I wouldn't be able to cope.

Spencer and I had caught a flight to San Francisco to surprise Addison. I thought I would get Spencer to come with me because Addison's move had affected her more than the others.

"What if she doesn't want to see us?" Spencer asked me. We were sitting at the back of the airplane and she had been freaking out.

"She will."

"Oh don't kid yourself, you even said she's mad at you." I groaned getting very annoyed that she had chosen to remind me.

"We'll sort it out."

"If you insist."

I glared at her and she gave me an innocent smile. "Besides maybe if you weren't too busy flirting with Leticia all the time, she wouldn't have gotten mad."

"I wasn't flirting with her, she was flirting with me."

"You allowed her to."

"Why are you getting involved?" I asked and she scoffed, feeling offended by my question.

"I'm getting involved because you are going to crush my best friend's heart in the palm of your hand. I am not going to let you do that."

I sighed as I folded my arms across her chest. It wasn't my intention to hurt Addison.

"I'm not trying to-"

"I don't care about what you're trying to do. I've seen the way you are with Leticia."

Okay maybe we did flirt but I just didn't want to think about it. It wasn't my fault she made me forget.

"It's never your fault is it?" Spencer snapped and my eyes widened. "Yes you said that out loud," she mocked and I just rolled my eyes at her. She could be a dog whenever she wanted to be.

"You're over reacting"

She rolled her eyes and decided not to bother with me as she leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes.

We stopped over at Addison's house, leaving our things in her guest room before taking her car as Adrianna gave us the keys.

When we arrived at the school, we got out of the car and decided to wait. Spencer was leaning her back against the car and I just stood still, feeling uncomfortable.

Five minutes later, she emerged with two girls and a boy by her side. Her eyes locked with mine and I saw that her body tensed.

The boy said something and the two girls laughed but Addison had a hard look on her face.

Spencer looked at me once she realised I stopped talking and followed my gaze. She gasped once she saw Addison and ran over to her. "Oh my God," she said as she threw herself onto Addison who chuckled and returned the embrace.

"What are you doing here?" Addison asked and Spencer pulled away.

"Rude."

"No I didn't mean it in a rude way, I'm just shocked to see you," she replied.

Spencer looked back at me before looking at Addison. "Well Chase and I wanted to see you." Addison's face became pale but Spencer didn't comment on it and said "anyway are you not going introduce us to your friends?"

"Yeah where are your manners?" the boy mocked and she rolled her eyes.

"Shane, Luciana and Isabella," she said motioning towards them. "Guys this is Spencer."

"Your best friend," Spencer added.

"My best friend."

"And that is Chase," Spencer said motioning towards me.

"Right, that's Chase," she repeated in a quiet tone.

"Your boyfriend," Spencer said and Luciana and Shane laughed. She clearly wasn't going to repeat that and that made me feel awful. We were still together no matter how she was feeling.

Isabella pulled her in for a hug and then whispered something in her ear. I wonder what she had said.

Once they pulled away, Addison gave her a small smile. "Guys, we had that assignment to work on," Isabella said looking at her two friends.

Luciana walked over to her and put her hand on Addison's as she too whispered something in her ear.

"We didn't-"

Addison cut Shane off with a glare and he smirked. "Oh," he said as chuckled to himself. "I guess we have got to go then."

"It was nice meeting you Spencer," Isabella said and Spencer replied by saying "Likewise." It was rude though which made everything awkward.

Isabella looked at Spencer before giving Addison a 'what the hell' look and I sighed.

"Spence," Addison warned and she didn't say anything. "She's probably feeling jet legged," she said and no one said anything.

"Don't talk for me," Spencer replied and I knew she was in trouble.

"Okay, remember the party is tomorrow night and you said you were coming Ads," Luciana said.

"I know I'm still coming," Addison ensured and they nodded before leaving.

Addison walked towards me but stopped when she realised it was her car. "Why the hell have you driven my car?" She said coldly to me.

"I drove it," Spencer replied. "We figured we wouldn't want you creating drama like always so I decided to drive it."

Addison clenched her jaw and gave Spencer a dirty look.

I had no idea what Spencer was playing at. She was having a go at me on the plane, telling her to not hurt her best friend and now she was snapping at Addison. It was probably because she was jealous. She had told me that Addison wasn't replying to her texts.

"Give my keys," Addison said holding out her hand and Spencer placed the key in her hands.

"We'll take a bus Chase," Spencer said before grabbing my arm. I was about to snap at her but Addison sighed.

"Why would you take a bus wen I can give you a free lift?"

"The bus is better," Spencer replied.

"You hate public transport Spencer," Addison said coldly.

"So what? A lot as changed since you left. Maybe I like it," she added and I bit my lower lip. If things weren't bad between Addison and I then would probably laugh but it wasn't the time nor place to o that so I decided against it.

"Just get in," she said rudely.

Spencer looked at me and I nodded my head. I thought Spencer would call shot gun because she always did, no matter who was driving but she just sat at the back. Addison looked at me but broke the eye contact and sat in the driver's seat.

I sat at the back beside Spencer and we began texting.

What are you playing at Spence?

Her phone vibrated and she looked at me.

Nothing.

Yeah right.

I hate the fact that I'm the only one backing her corner and she's here already fitting in and not giving a crap about her old friends. She promised she wouldn't forget me.

I draped my arm over her shoulder and she sighed, resting her head on my shoulder.

I could see that Addison was glaring at both of us through the mirrors.

I pulled away and texted back.

Just talk to her.

I don't want to, the last thing I want to do is talk.

Spence, come on you know you need to.

"Can you please put your phone on silent?" Addison mocked. "It's obvious you're both texting one another," she added and I looked at Spencer.

"I'll do whatever the hell I want," Spencer snapped and Addison didn't say a word.

She pulled up to her house ten minutes later.

We got out and Addison was on her phone texting someone. "Are your friends missing you already?" Spencer said rudely.

"Actually," Addison said looking at her, "I am texting Grey not that it's any of your business."

Spencer didn't say anything, she just walked into the house.

"Why have you turned my best friend against me?" Addison asked and I sighed loudly.

"I haven't-"

"Yes you have. What have you told her?"

"You turned her against you all by yourself," I snapped, getting irritated with her bitchy tone. She rolled her eyes and began to walk away but I grabbed her hand, pulling her back to me. I wrapped my arms around her waist but she pulled away.

"Is that what you do to all the girls?"

"I am not cheating on you."

"Okay." She sarcastically laughed and it made me uncomfortable.

"I'm not. The girl on the phone was just a friend I promise."

"Why was she in your room? And why did she say what she did?"

"I don't know, she's just crazy like that."

She didn't say anything so I walked closer to her, cupping her chin. "Addison I took a flight just to see your beautiful face. I love you and I would never, ever cheat on you.

She sighed as she looked at me. "Are you just saying that?"

"No of course I'm not. I haven't come all the way over here for nothing. I love you Addison O'Grady and you can't get rid of me that easily."

She smiled which made me smile.

She wrapped her arms around my neck and pulled me in for a passionate kiss.

God I missed those lips.

She pulled away and then kissed my cheek. "I missed you so much," she said quietly.

"Really?" I teased. "With the way you were acting a few minutes ago, I'd have to disagree."

"I'm sorry," she said quietly. "I just thought you were cheating on me once I heard that girl's voice."

"You don't need to explain," I replied as I stroked her hair. "Your friends don't seem to like me."

"I was really pissed today with everything going on between us. My dad was getting on my nerves and I ended up crying on Isabella's shoulder."

"Aw," I said pulling her in for a hug. Addison rarely cried so when she did I knew it was because of something serious.

"She's been cheated on and she hates cheaters," she added. She pulled away from me and said "but she didn't think you cheated."

I raised my eyebrows at her, wondering how a stranger would know that. "Why?"

"Because she doesn't know how someone could cheat on a girl like me," she said with blush. "Her words, not mine." I chuckled and shook my head.

"Well she is right," I replied before pecking her lips.

Once we pulled away she said "she told me to talk to you when she whispered in my ear and Luciana said you were good-looking." I smirked at her friends because they sounded awesome.

"They're great."

"You don't even know them."

"I don't need to," I replied and she smiled.

I got a letter out of my bag and gave it to her. "I needed to write you a letter so here it is but you can only read it when I leave to make it fair." She nodded her head and took it.

"What's wrong with Spence?"

"You need to talk to her," I replied as I brushed her hair away from her face.

"Why?"

"Talk to her, she's feeling upset and she thinks you are forgetting her."

Her face fell and I knew she felt guilty.

"Oh."

"I don't want you to feel guilty but Spence hasn't taken you leaving well." Her eyebrows raised and she motioned for me to continue. "She isn't hanging out with us anymore, she isn't talking to the girls and she dropped out of cheerleading." She gasped and I sighed. "She barely even talks to us."

"Why isn't she talking to anyone?"

I sighed as I told her about Leticia. I had to tell her that Leticia was now included in our group and the girls were fond of her.

"She thinks everyone is forgetting you," I added. "She's really fighting your corner but she gets nothing in return. You haven't texted her once. She knows you spoke to Madison and Piper and her and Jade are annoyed at that."

"Oh God," she mumbled as she buried her face into my chest and I stroked her hair.

"Jade's acting like she doesn't care. She wants to play the 'if you can forget her then so can she' card and she's best friends with Leticia." Someone needed to tell her these things and I hated the fact that I had to do it. I felt her tears and that just broke my heart. "Don't cry Ads, she isn't worth your tears. If Jade wants to do that then fine." She gave me a small smile as I wiped her tears. "But Spence is still trying, she's trying so hard to hold on to memories."

"I didn't know she'd get this upset."

"Well she did," I replied as I held her tightly.

No words needed to be said as she just needed to be held.
