Tornadoes raged within the town of Happy Harbour. Mr. Twister stood at the center of the chaos, controlling to winds to attack the city and even lift boats off the water from where they were docked to crash into buildings.
"Certainly this will get the required attention!" He cried out.
"You got ours!" Twister turned to see Kid Flash coming at him with great speed. "Full and undivided!"
Jumping and flipping through the air, Kid Flash succeeded in kicking Twister, unlike before, sending him back several steps. Before he got a chance to counterattack, Twister heard a battle cry and just barely jumped back to avoid Superboy smashing into him.
Twister, again, didn't have time to counterattack as he was suddenly struck with a miniature bomb that caused him to raise his hands and cover himself from the attacks, which were coming from Robin who now had a yellow utility belt going over his shoulder and around his waist. The android, again, wasn't given any time to rest as he was struck with a turret of water from behind, courtesy of Aqualad near a fire hydrant who had forgone his jacket and was now wearing a sleeveless red shirt.
With that constant onslaught, Twister had no chance to see Peter sneak in the back towards the destroyed buildings.
"Enough!" Twister cried out, throwing his hands down and generating a powerful cyclone that threw away the attacks of the team.
While Twister was recovering from the attacks, Aqualad joined the rest of the team. "Remember, we need him distracted until Peter and Miss Martian are ready," the Atlantian whispered.
"Keeping someone's attention through annoying them?" Kid Flash grinned. "I'm game!"
"You should see how I annoy the local goons in Gotham," Robin added, looking equally happy and confident as the speedster.
"It seems you children have yet to learn that you are outclassed in every possible way!" Twister yelled as the winds began picking up around him. "You are a disturbance I can no longer tolerate!"
"Well, we'd hate to see you 'disturbed'. How about we make you 'turbed'!" Robin said as he picked something from his utility belt and threw it at Twister.
The Android raised his hand created a wall of wind. But, unlike before, what Robin threw was not a normal bomb, but a flash bomb. The sudden flash of light caused Twister to take a few steps back. Before he can recover, Superboy came in nearly sent Twister to his back with a punch to the face. The android was then struck again with a turret of water which, combined with how unbalanced he was from Superboy's attack, did manage to knock him to the ground.
Standing up, Twister saw Kid Flash come in and start going around him in circles. It became apparent why when Twister noticed he was being tied up with a robe. Kid Flash stopped when the robe came to an end and looked at his handy work. The other heroes came in to take out Twister only for the android to surround himself with a powered tornado that knocked them all back while undoing the robe.
Twister flew above the ground, glaring at the young heroes. Superboy picked up a beam that came off one of the buildings and threw it at the android. Raising his hand, Twister manipulated the wind to make the beam spin around and head towards Robin.
The boy wonder just barely managed to jump away from the beam. Twister turned around and saw Kid Flash and Aqualad headed towards him. When the speedster got close, Twister attacked him with a point-blank cyclone that sent him crashing into the Atlantian.
Turning back to Superboy and Robin, the Android's body was covered in electricity as it sent a lightning bolt in their direction. Having enhanced reflexes, the Kryptonian clone jumped in and tackled Robin away from the attack before it can strike.
"(Peter! Miss Martian! Are you two ready?)" Aqualad asked through their mental link.
"(I'm ready!)" M'gann replied.
"(Just a second... Now I'm ready!)" Peter replied.
Aqualad nodded and turned his look back to Twister, who was preparing another attack. Suddenly, the area between Twister and the team was covered in dust. A figure descended from the sky and revealed itself when the dust settled.
"Enough," Red Tornado said as he looked over his shoulder to the team. "I had thought that you can handle yourselves, but apparently I overestimated your capabilities," he scolded.
"But we have a plan now!" Robin protested.
"This isn't negotiable," Red Tornado insisted. "Leave, now," he ordered. Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, and Superboy all looked down, disheartened as they all walked away.
"Finally!" Twister groaned, no longer seeing a sign of the teenagers. "I was beginning to believe you would never show up," he added, confirming that he was, indeed, waiting for Red Tornado.
"I'm here now," Red Tornado threw his hand aside, causing dust and wind to gather aup before sending a tornado at Twister.
Flying away to dodge the attack, Twister cancelled Red Tornado's attack by creating winds that flew in the opposite direction. Raising both his hands, Twister sent a cyclone at the direction of Red Tornado. The Hero android raised his hand and unmade the winds that the attack was made of.
"We are equally matched," Red Tornado commented as he threw his hands at the side and caused the rubble to around them to fly towards his opponent.
"Incorrect," Twister replied, creating a wall of wind that destroyed the incoming rubble.
Raising his hands, Twister shoot a lightning attack. Red Tornado attempted to fly away from the lightning but it ended up striking one of the boats that Twister knocked into land, which caused the engine on it to explode and send Red Tornado to the ground.
Twister flew towards the fallen Hero Android and raised one of his hands, where several wires came out from his fingers. "Hold still, Android," Twister said as the wires connected to Red Tornado's head. "The reprogramming won't take long."
Suddenly, 'Red Tornado' turned his head towards Twister... and it transformed to M'gann's face. "Longer than you might think."
"No!" Twister tried to move away only for M'gann to grab hold of the wires from his arm and blast him with a Telekinetic shock-wave.
The attack sent Twister to one of the tornadoes that was generated by the battle. The tornado settled and revealed it was in actuality Kid Flash spinning at high speed. The speedster sent Twister away towards Superboy, who delivered a powerful punch to the android as soon as he was close enough.
Superboy took hold of one of Twister's arms to ensure he doesn't get far enough before pulling him in and delivering another punch to his torso. Moving Twister and pulling him in for another punch, Superboy struck the android hard enough that he knocked him away towards the harbour and into the water, ripping his arm off in the process.
Twister sank under the surface and turned around just in time to see Aqualad coming at him with great speed while holding a large pipe. The Atlantian struck Twister and lodged the pipe at his side. The tattoos on Aqualad's body glowed before the android was struck with an electric shock and was sent flying outside the water.
Landing roughly on the ground, Twister attempted to stand up only to be struck with a couple of bombs that took even more of his armor off. Turning to see Robin standing at where the bombs came from, Twister glared.
"What's the matter, Twisty?" The Boy Wonder spread his arms, basically making a target of himself. "Losing to a bunch of 'children'? That's so no turbed."
Twister raised his remaining arm and shoot a lightning bolt at Robin, who did nothing to defend himself or dodge. He didn't need to as the lightning bolt Twister shoot suddenly changed direction.
Looking at where the lightning bolt went, Twister saw Peter standing with his Tazer weapon now larger with wires connecting it to what appeared to be a generator. The scientist had adjusted his weapon and the magnetic field it uses to trap electricity in the form of a ball so that it attracts all forms of electricity and store it in the generator before firing it back.
Aiming the weapon at Twister, Peter pulled the trigger and a large lightning bolt was shot at the android, knocking it away alongside destroyed his remaining arm. Looking at the weapon, Peter saw it overheating and threw it away before it started letting smoke. The team gathered in front of Twister, who was now struggling to even sit straight.
"Looks like our plan worked," Kid Flash commented.
The plan had been about distracting Twister while Peter prepared a counter for his lightning and Miss Martian transformed to Red Tornado. Since Mimicking males was harder on her Shape-shifting, she needed time to prepare, and Peter needed to set up the proper pieces.
Suddenly, a 'hiss' was heard as Twister finally managed to sit straight. The chest opened up to reveal a middle-aged man with a green suit, goggles, and a scarf around his neck. The man barley managed to stand up and shakely point at the heroes.
"F-foul! I call foul!" He said as the scarf fell, revealing his side burns and thin face.
"I thought you said that thing was unmanned?" Robin turned to Peter, questioning the scientist's earlier statement.
"I did, and I was right," Peter flicked his wrist and activated his CPU Glove. He began typing on the keyboard. "What's in front of us is just a human-like android. One that is most likely being controlled remotely. Give me a second to track down-"
Suddenly, the man's eyes flashed red before his body exploded. But, instead of blood and organs, what came out was metal and bolts. Seeing the pieces, the team were relieved that a real person did not just explode in front of them.
"Were you able to track the controller down?" Aqualad asked.
"Oh, no. I was bluffing," Peter said causing the team to look at him in shock. "This thing isn't strong enough to actually do that quickly. I'd need a few minutes to actually track down signals," he said motioning to his glove. "Also, I knew he most likely was hiding a last trump card, so I wanted to corner him into using it. I should have expected it to be a self-destruct sequence," he added, looking at the remains of the robot.
"How did you figure that?" Superboy asked.
"Here's a piece of advice to help you in the future," Peter motioned to Twister's remains. "If someone is smart enough to make something like this, then they're definitely smart enough to have a backup plan. Don't drop your guard so quickly next time."
The team seemed satisfied with that explanation. Wally walked into the remains of the man android and picked up one of the fallen pieces, which was a robotic eye.
"Cool, souvenir," he said, flipping the eye in the air.
Time Skip:
The team brought back the remains of the man android and Twister. Right now, they were being examined on a table by the real Red Tornado.
"It clearly was made to destroy you," Aqualad stated.
"Agreed," Red Tornado nodded, looking through the scan results and seeing it was designed to counter him perfectly.
"Is that why you didn't show up when things went south?" Kid Flash asked.
"No, I did not believe it was my place to fight your battles for you, nor is it your place to fight mine. Besides, even though things 'went south' at the start, you made an impressive comeback," Red Tornado replied.
Between all the team members, Peter was the only one who didn't seem interested in Red Tornado's reply, and was busy looking over the remains from the other side of the table. "I don't suppose you'll let me keep some of the pieces for me to study and use, will you?" He asked hopefully, looking at the android.
"No," Red Tornado replied instantly, causing Peter to sigh. "Since this was an attempt to target me specifically, I will personally deal with researching the culprit. You all should rest."
"But we can help," Robin insisted.
"As I've said, you are to not fight my battles for me," Red Tornado repeat as he pressed a button on the table, causing it to hover off the ground and follow him as he walked away.
"Batman, Aquaman, and Flash would have jumped right in to fix things after that messy start," Kid Flash commented.
"I guess if we're having a babysitter, a heartless machine is exactly what we need," Robin added, looking away.
"Dude, harsh!" Wally scolded the younger hero.
"And inaccurate," Red Tornado's voice reached them from across the hall, causing them to jump. "I do have a heart. Carbon-steel alloy. I also have excellent hearing," he added while turning to look at the heroes.
Robin chuckled nervously. "Hehe... sorry... I'll... strive to be more accurate."
"And more respectful," Aqualad added, placing a hand on Robin's shoulder.
Red Tornado turned and continued walking away with the table following him.
"Speedy was so wrong," Wally commented as he and the rest of the team except Miss Martian and Superboy began leaving.
"This team thing," Robin continued.
"Just might work," Kaldur finished.
Peter gave them a deadpan look. "What could possibly posses you into finishing each other's sentences?" He asked before shaking his head. "Never mind, I'll be in the lab," he said before breaking off from the group.
"Ouch, Batman said that line like that and I can tell it doesn't mean good," Robin recalled the many times the Dark Knight returned from a mission where one piece of his equipment didn't work properly enough and said that line before locking himself in the lab to study where he went wrong.
"Well, his weapon did break in the fight. I'd be in a pretty bad mood if something I made broke right when I got to use it," Wally added with a shrug, understanding where the scientist was coming from.
Aqualad frowned and tried to think of something to 'cheer up' Peter. Thankfully, the opportunity presented itself to do so the next day.
Time Skip:
The day after the Twister incident, Peter was still in his laboratory, looking at his CPU Glove's screen which contained the data that had the design and required materials to create the Light-Air Particle Infusion System.
The door to the lab was opened and there stood Kaldur and M'gann. "Hey, Peter!" The Martian greeted.
"Hey," the scientist nodded as a reply, but didn't look away from the screen. "Is there something you need?"
"The team is getting together for some camping tonight. We were hoping you would join us," Kaldur explained with a smile.
The scientist gave them an odd look. "No, thank you. We scientists are an indoor breed. We don't enjoy camping much," he explained before turning back to the scream.
"Come on, pleeeease," M'gann insisted floating around Peter. "Isn't it like, a scientific fact you shouldn't stay inside all the time?" She asked, attempting to persuade the scientist.
"I have been inside for one day. Even if indoor pollution was possible, which the base's ventilation is especially made to make sure it isn't, it would need way more than that for it to be anywhere near unhealthy," Peter retorted.
"We would still really appreciate it if you were to join us," Aqualad added as he stood besides M'gann.
Peter stared at them for a few moments but neither of them let up. Soon enough, the scientist sighed and rolled his eyes. "Fine, I'll be there. Just let me finish this data report," he agreed making their eyes lit up. "BUT, I will most likely be leaving before everyone else since I actually have some important work tomorrow."
"We're okay with that!" Miss Martian agreed as she and Kaldur left the lab. "We'll be in the forest right outside the cave!" She said before the door closed.
Peter stayed as he triple checked the list and data before pressing the 'Send' button to Batman. Once he finished, he sighed and stood up from his seat, deciding he may as well get this over with.
He had no trouble spending time with the team. Peter himself has held many social events for friends and colleagues in the past. However, considering his situation, he believed, well more like desired, to spend his time in the lab alone.
He had a lot to think about. Events from both this world and his own.
As he made it outside of the cave, he saw a source of light nearby, causing him to raise an eyebrow. He questioned if the team's location would make this a 'camping trip' since it was too close to the base, but he shrugged it as it made coming and going easier.
Walking in yo see the team sitting around fire with a few tents in the background, he saw that Kaldur and M'gann were sitting away from everyone else, though they seem to be avoiding the heat of the fire rather than the company.
"Hey, Pete, you made it," Robin greeted, seeing the scientist walk in and sit down besides Superboy.
"Isn't this a bit too close to be considered camping?" He asked, looking at the group.
"Hey, I never said camping, I said there'd be campfire and food," Wally protest while roasting marshmallows. "There's a difference. Unless of course... I'm with a special someone," he added, looking over his shoulder to M'gann.
"Dude, kind of bordering on creepy," Robin groaned at the obvious pick-up line.
"I think it's wonderful that we're all camping together!" M'gann cheered as she finished making s'mores.
Kid Flash pointed at the Martian. "She doesn't seem to think so," he gloated at how she didn't share the boy wonder's opinion.
"She's probably on a sugar overload," Robin stated as he already saw Miss Martian eat a few s'mores already.
M'gann took a bite from another one. "Thanks to Wally, I got to try s'mores for the first time," she said through a full mouth.
"What can I say, I'm sweet," Wally joked, looking for any who understood the punchline. "Get it? Sweet? Cause smores-"
"I assure you, Wallus, the lack of laughter is not because of lack of understanding," Peter cut the speedster's explanation.
"So... this is what people do in camping?" Superboy asked, motioning to the area around them. "Sleep in these flimsy things called 'tents' and sit around a fire?"
"Not exactly but this is the general idea of a small camping trip," Peter answered as he picked up one of the sticks and began cooking a marshmallow. "Usually, camping would be far more into the wild and away from society. Some use camping as a way to escape society's responsibilities and get some fresh air. Some do it for a small fun together like this."
"And others?" Superboy asked.
"Idiots that don't understand that there's a reason humans developed the 'indoors' during their evolutionary process," Peter's explanation managed to get a smile from the clone and a snort from Wally.
(A/N: thank you for reading this.
Well, as you can see, the fight went differently because the team went in with a plan this time. It didn't change by a large margin but there's still difference.
The group are having a little get together now and are getting to know each other. Next chapter will be mostly about them talking about their origin.
Again, thank you for reading this. Please comment, review, and give me your thoughts on my story.)
