"You can place it here," Peter instructed and Superboy slowly lowered the device to the ground.

After Red Tornado delivered the equipment, Peter asked Superboy to lift the heavy things and, to his surprise, M'gann came to help. Seeing her telekinesis was an incredible experience for the scientist but he withheld any questions in order to focus on setting up the laboratory.

The lab was a simple large room with two tables. One of the tables had a robotic hand on it alongside a telescope, a computer, and a printer. It also had the tasers that Peter was going to work with. The other table had tools and equipment to work with.

The machine Superboy set up was at the very back of the lab which was a large processor. Peter - who was wearing new clothes that consisted of a black pants and a blue shirt under a white lab coat - knelt down besides the machine and began connecting it to the wires of the laboratory.

"So, what is all this?" M'gann asked as she looked over the tools.

"Just some common things. Processors, hard drives, wires, microchips and tools. Not everything I asked for is here, like a cutting laser or a welding torch, but they did give me a wire welder so I'm good for now," Peter explained as he finished connection the large processor. Standing up, he went to the laptop and tuned it on. "I'll have to build the more advanced stuff myself since the League doesn't trust me enough to give them to me. That shouldn't be a problem. Today, however, I'll spend setting everything up. A scientist's laboratory is like a cook's kitchen. We prefer things set up and prepared for our personal preference in doing things."

"Do you need our help with anything?" M'gann asked.

Peter shook his head. "Thank you, but no. You two did your part, and now it's my turn to do mine. Just tell me when dinner's ready or something happens," he said. M'gann looked at Superboy, who shrugged his shoulders before turning away to leave with the Martian following his example. The young scientist finished connecting the large processor to the laboratory and the cave before getting up and heading to the tools and grabbing a screw driver with the wire welder. "Alright, let's start, shall we," he mumbled as he walked to the other table, where the Tasers were.

He started taking them apart to remake them from scratch. First, he needs to make something that isn't limited to the short range of tasers. Unless he is wearing some protective armour - which he filed as a future project to make for now -, getting close to his enemies was a bad idea. Second of all, he will also need it to be stronger than the common taser but give it a function for controlling the voltage to avoid any fatalities.

After he finished reducing the tasers to their basic materials, Peter began creating his weapon. First, he went with the general design of a gun, similar to the Tasers, only larger for it held more functions now. He got rid of the tiny gas tank that shot the needles, for he doesn't need it anymore, but kept the needles and the pin that the tank used. The replaceable and chargeable battery function were useful, so he kept those mostly intact. Connecting the batteries to voltage control unit, he brought in the wire welder and began making himself a weapon for self defence.

Later that evening, Peter came out of the lab with his new weapon. The weapon resembled a gun with a large, rectangular cylinder that ended with four needles at the end, one on each corner. A dial with a glowing center was at the side of the weapon.

Checking over the weapon as he headed to the main hall, the Scientist ran into the resident Martian of the base. "Oh, hey, Peter. What do you have there?" M'gann asked as she noticed the weapon in his hands.

"It's something I made for self defence," Peter answered as he kept walking with M'gann deciding to follow.

"Are you planing to test it?" The Martian guessed, seeing no other reason for the scientist to bring out the weapon.

"Yes. I'm positive it works well, but any good scientist knows testing is mandatory when dealing with weapons," Peter explained as they reached the main hall and found the third resident of the base.

Superboy was apparently training on the large platform. He had a holographic wall around him and several featureless humanoid beings surrounding him. The young man punched one of the figures, causing it to shatter like glass. One of the remaining figures jumped on his back, nearly causing him to fall. Two of the remaining figures piled up on him as well, only for Superboy to blow them all away while shattering them from strength. The last of the figures stood across Superboy and held its fists up before charging.  Superboy did the same and both of them threw a punch at the same time, but only one of them shattered to pieces.

When all the opponents were down, Superboy took a few deep breaths before a robotic voice was heard. "Exercise Protocol: Complete," the wall and pieces of the figures vanished from around the young man.

That was when Superboy noticed the other two residents of the cave. "That was pretty good, Superboy," M'gann complemented.

"Thanks," Superboy said while looking away before mumbling. "Still too weak, though."

Neither of the other two seemed to hear him or simply chose not to comment. Peter, for one, was looking at the field with fascination. "Hard light technology for exercise? Convenient," he looked at Superboy and Miss Martian. "Tell me, do either of you know if the base is using Light-Air Particle Infusion to do this? Or are they using Special Hard Light lenses?" He only received looks of confusion, causing him to sigh. "Light-Air Particle Infusion is charging the air particles with electrons and protons like they're passing light before gathering them in specific formations like. It's basically like making gelatin from air after turning it to the light version of mist. Special Hard Light lenses intensify light to the point where it's solid, which is basically like thickening cement by adding more to the mix."

"I-I really don't know," M'gann held one of her elbows, looking uncomfortable and embarrassed. "We never really got the details to the Cave's systems."

Peter sighed and shook his head. "Never mind. I'll ask Red Tornado later. The reason I asked is because Special Hard Light lenses can be both dangerous and costly so I was just making sure we weren't wasting money on the holographic version of gasoline," he walked into the platform and looked at Superboy. "How did you activate the exercise system?"

Superboy shrugged. "I just asked for something that I can break," he answered.

Peter nodded and looked upwards. "Computer. Formulate a Long Range shooting target."

A circular target appeared a dozen meters away from Peter. Holding up his new weapon, Peter gave it one last look before aiming it at the target and pulling the trigger. If Peter is right, the weapon should create a tiny magnetic field where electricity is charged and shoot it forward.

The buzzing sound of electricity was heard from the weapon before a small ball of electricity was formed between the four needles at the end of the barrel. The ball of electricity shot forward and struck the target near the centre, causing it to break away.

"Wow!" M'gann clapped her hands. "You made that just today?" She asked.

"Yes, but it's not fully done yet," Peter replied looking at the side of the weapon ad pointing at the dial, showing that the glow from it had considerably weakened. "It's battery powered so it doesn't end up being useless because I forgot to charge it or it ran out. I made several batteries but for now, it seems to take up more energy than it should. Most likely because I didn't add a cooling system yet," he shrugged his shoulders. "Oh well. I'll have to work on that later. It's functioning properly and that's what matters."

"Is it safe?" Superboy asked, remembering that they're supposed to not use any lethal methods.

"Mostly, yes. It's voltage is harmful but not lethal," Peter answered, placing the weapon inside his lab coat. "It can be toned up or down depending on the situation, but the default setting is mostly safe," he turned away and began walking in the direction of the laboratory. "I'll be in the lab. Now that I'm done with this, I can focus on other projects. Please don't bother me unless it's important."

M'gann looked at Superboy, who simply shrugged. Peter didn't sound rude in his speech, but like he was busy, do they didn't find what he said insulting in anyway. They both decided to simply go on about their day.

Peter entered the lab and headed to the table where the laptop was left in pieces with a large glove close by. Taking the processor from laptop, Peter looked it over. "Amy, hand me the-" stopping mid sentence, Peter flinched before he glared at the pieces on the table. "... Raah!" Crying out, he swept the pieces off the table and threw them on the ground.

Breathing harshly, Peter kept his glare as he slowly reached up and held his hand over his prosthetic eye. He slowly calmed himself down while trying to forget the name he just said.

Suddenly, the door to the lab was opened. Looking over his shoulder, Peter saw Superboy standing at the entrance. "I heard a shout and something crashing," the young man explained his reason for entering the lab.

Getting his breathing back in control, Peter shook his head. "It's fine. Just a tiny accident," he answered.

Superboy looked skeptical, looking at the scientist and the pieces on the ground, before he eventually shrugged his shoulders and turned to leave. When the doors to the lab closed, Peter turned to look at the pieces on the ground.

"Wonderful," he groaned sarcastically. "This will definitely help me finish quicker," his sarcasm didn't let up as he began picking up the pieces.

Time Skip:

For the next few days, Peter spent most of his time within the laboratory, only coming out for meals. M'gann had came with Superboy to check on him, though the latter seem to have simply tagged along for the lack of anything better to do. The scientist had spent this time finishing up the laboratory and a couple of projects while also reading files and news reports - at least the ones he had access to - so he can understand the world he was in better.

On the morning of the fourth day, Peter came out of the laboratory and headed towards the main hall. His clothes had the addition of a black glove with white knuckles and fingertips with circuit-like patterns connected to the knuckles.

Walking into the platform in the main hall, Peter looked up and called out. "Computer, contact Batman."

The screen with a ringing phone appeared again. It was not long before the call was answered and the Dark Knight appeared on the screen. "I'm busy, make this quick."

"Does the base use Light-Air Particle Infusion or are they using Special Hard Light lenses for the Hard Light holograms?" Peter asked, immediately going into business. He had been planning to ask this a few days ago, but kept getting sidetracked.

"The latter," Batman replied.

"Why?" The young scientist was confused.

While the Special Hard Light lenses offered better quality in solid holograms, they were very expensive and required far more work than the Light-Air Particle Infusion system. Not only did they take a lot of energy, but also required a powerful cooling system to make sure the lenses do not melt from the intensity of the light while at the same time requiring very precise calculations and programing to avoid the lenses being off and hurting someone with the intense light.

"Light-Air Particle Infusion is only theoretical technology. It wasn't made into practice yet," Batman replied without a second of hesitation.

"Like prosthetic eyes that actually function?" Peter asked rhetorically while raising the eyebrow of his prosthetic eye.

"We tried making it," Batman seemed bitter about explaining this subject. "We couldn't. We didn't have enough technology to create a system that can charge the particles in the air while also organising-"

"Wait, you tried to do that with a one-part system?" Peter looked at Batman in shock. "Light-Air Particle Infusion is a two part system. One part charges the particles in the air, the other organises their atomic structure to create constructs. It was never meant to be a one-part system," Batman simply stayed silent and stared at Peter. "You... never thought of trying that, did you?"

"Can you make it?" The Hero immediately avoided the question.

Peter shrugged. "Given the parts, yes."

"Send me a list of what you need. When you finish it, send me the schematics. Batman out," with that, the Dark Knight hung up on the call.

"Recognised: Aqualad: B-02" Hearing the sound of the Zeta Tube system coming to life, Peter turned to the teleporter and saw the flash of light vanish to reveal a young man with dark skin, mostly shaved blond hair, a black turtleneck with matching black pants, and a belt with an "A" without the line in the middle.

"Greetings, you must be the new member," the Dark skinned young man said with a friendly smile, approaching Peter while raising his hand. "I am Aqualad. It's a pleasure to meet you."

"Likewise, I'm Peter, the team's... Unofficial scientist," Peter returned the greeting, accepting the handshake.

"We have been informed of your situation. I hope you are settling in without any problems," Aqualad said, worry sparkling in his eyes, most likely referring to Peter not having any place to go in this version of Earth.

The young scientist shrugged. "They gave me a lab, and that's all I need, honestly."

Aqualad nodded. "I see. If I can help with anything, please do not hesitate to ask."

"Actually, I read a little about you. You are Atlantian, correct?" Aqualad nodded at Peter's question. "Your civilisation does not exist where I come from. Frankly, Atlantis is treated as nothing but a children's fairytale. I am quite interested in your civilisation. Would you mind telling me about it and your technological aspects?"

Aqualad smiled, the notion of speaking about his home warming his heart. "I will be more than happy to tell you of my home," spotting Superboy and M'gann coming over, the Atlantian remembered why he had came over in the first place. "However, I will have to ask you to wait for another time. Do you know where Red Tornado is?"

Peter raised an eyebrow but still answered. "I would guess that he's doing regular patrol at the moment," the young scientist recalled that it was around this time that he wanted to give Red Tornado the list for the lab equipment.

Aqualad nodded and looked upwards. "Computer, can you locate Red Tornado?" The request was met with a holographic map appearing in the air and showing a red dot with Red Tornado's picture connected to it. The dot seemed to be getting closer and closer to the cave.

Peter was curious on what was going on, but he decided to observe for now. Superboy and Miss Martian walked up next to him as they all looked at the map.

"Recognised: Robin: B-01. Recognised: Kid Flash: B-03," the sound of the Zeta Tube coming to life again echoed in the Cave.

Watching as the light died down, Peter saw two new people walk outside of the large tube. One was a young man with messy red hair, wearing a yellow shirt under a red jacket and plain pants and running shoes. The other was what Peter believed was the youngest person on the team. The boy had neatly combed black hair, a black jacket over a green shirt and plain jeans. He was also wearing shades that covered his eyes.

"Oh, hey, you're the new guy!" The young man with red hair said as he saw Peter. "I'm Kid Flash. I- Eeeeeye! Eye... eye..." Kid Flash shrieked and trailed off as Peter fully turned to face him and his prosthetic eye was became visible. The boy next to Kid Flash nudged him with his elbow. "Omf... eye.. I! I'm so happy to meet you!" He attempted to save face.

Peter simply deadpanned and raised an eyebrow. "Charming," he commented sarcastically.

"Ignore him. He's a dork," the boy with the shades said, stepping forward. "I'm Robin."

"I'm Peter Martin. I'm the team's scientist for now," Peter introduced himself before looking back at the map curiously. "So, is there a reason you're waiting for Red Tornado?"

"We're hoping he has a mission for us," Robin informed as he looked at the map.

"He's arriving right now," Aqualad stated as he saw the dot representing Red Tornado enter the base's borders.

"Then what are we waiting for?!" Kid Flash asked as he and the others began walking towards the base's entrance. Peter simply shrugged and decided to follow them out of curiosity.

The entrance opened to reveal the woods and green life that surrounded the Mountain. In the skies, Red Tornado can be seen floating down in a small hurricane. Once he got close to the ground, the winds died out and vanished from his feet.

"Greetings," Red Tornado's robotic voice spoke up. "Is there a reason for you to intercept me outside of the cave?"

"We were hoping you had a mission for us," Aqualad answered.

"Mission assignment is the Batman's duty," Red Tornado stated.

Robin stepped forward. "But it's been over a week and-"

The android raised his hand, stopping the boy. "You will be tested soon enough. For now, simply enjoy each other's company."

"This team is not a social club," Aqualad harshly said, confusing Peter at his attitude.

"Perhaps, but I am told that socialising is a good team building exercise," Red Tornado informed as he began walking into the base. "For now, you should simply familiarise yourselves with the base."

After Red Tornado walked away, Kid Flash turned to Robin. "Keep busy? Does he think we're falling for this?"

Peter believed he was missing something. The team's reaction to not being given a mission goes beyond simple anxiety giddiness, and excitement for action.

"I'll find out!" M'gann said as she looked intensely at Red Tornado who was being authorised by the Base's recognition system. After a few minutes, she sighed. "Sorry. I forgot he's a machine. Inorganic. I can't read his mind."

"Good try, though," Kid Flash complimented before leaning forward. "So... can you tell what I'm thinking?"

"All of us know what you're thinking," Robin groaned, looking dejected about the whole deal.

"And now, we tour the club house," Aqualad sighed in annoyance.

"Me, Superboy, and Peter live here. We can show you around," M'gann offered.

Everyone turned to Peter and Superboy. "Don't look at me," the latter said.

"I stayed in the lab for most of my time here. I'm not as familiar with the base as you think," Peter stated with a shrug.

"A: no one is looking at you, and B: we have a lab?" Kid Flash counted points with Peter nodding at the second one. He then turned to Miss Martian. "A private tour sounds lovely."

"She didn't say 'private'," Robin corrected the red haired teen.

"Team building," Aqualad stated firmly. "We all go."

Peter wanted to sigh. He was hoping to get back to the lab or at least send Batman a list of components he would need for the Light-Air Particle Infusion system, but he supposed familiarising with the base was not a complete waste of time.

"Okay, so this is our front door," M'gann's first statement as she motioned at gate caused him to question his belief.

(A/N: Thank you for reading this.

First and foremost: most of the inventions and systems mentioned in this story are completely made up Sci-Fi stuff. I'm not an engineer or genius inventor, so don't hold it against me.

Second, I really hope you like the story so far.

Please tell me what you think.)
