DEITY ( Korean : 데이티 , RR : deiti ) is a South Korean boy group formed by CELESTIAL MUSIC . The group currently consists of seven members , but was originally composed of eight . The current members include : ADRIAN , ESMÉ , MASAMI , HONG , JAEMIN , YUTA and YOUNGRAE . They made their debut on November 26 2023 with the mini album " DAY OF GODS " . Before the groups finalization , they were only known as PROJECT CAELESTIS in company cycles , with the projects name being leaked to news outlets in late 2022 . The groups concept is based on a string of unreleased novels by the companies main creative director Won Byunghoon and the creative input of the members themselves , which was added the process of the groups making .

The project itself has been in the works by Won Byunghoon and CELESTIAL MUSIC's main producer , CLOSE , since approximately late 2017 and was originally meant to " only " be a trilogy for a future group under the company . However , it eventually developed so much that the company's CEO decided to change it to be a continuous concept , rather than a theme limited to three releases . Notably , the project has been through several changes since its first conceptualization , like the number of members , musical themes and intensity of the concept itself , but has since taken on the shape of an eight ( now seven ) member boy group which embraces various intense and dark themes .

Made with the intent to be the embodiment of Won's unreleased novel trilogy , DEITY is meant to explore themes of maturity through the lenses of people not quite ready yet , at least in the concepts and as a greater extension of things . Although the project is greatly influenced by the members themselves , their thoughts , feelings and backgrounds , everything related to the group is build like a script , meant to be followed until the very last line .

The members have been known to be handpicked by the company's CEO himself , a few of which he had transferred from CELESTIAL MUSIC's parent company , JYP Entertainment , to CELESTIAL after they acquired the company in early 2023 . Although Won is still believed to be the main creative director behind the group , it is said and heavily speculated that the CEO has a lot of influence within the project , much more so than in other music ventures in the company , reaching far beyond approving ideas . Yet it stays unconfirmed as he is never credited in any of the contents the group releases , but it's still heavily believed from accounts of company insiders and remarks made by Won Byunghoon himself in the past .

In the early stages of DEITY's formation , several trainees under the company rotated in an out of the projects line - up . At the start , it was a mixture between male and female trainees , but it was eventually decided by CELESTIAL MUSIC's CEO that the project would be changed into a boy group , as he had plans to debut a girl group at the time . However , eventually the plan fell through as several trainees departed from the company in 2020 .

The first trainee to join the project out of the final eight was SUBIN , who joined CELESTIAL MUSIC as a trainee in early 2020 and who later represented the company in the Mnet survival show Boys Planet in 2023 . He is know to have been in PROJECT CAELESTIS since he joined in 2020 , being one of the few known trainee's to have been in the project from it's early stages to it's final debutation in 2023 . The next is known to be ADRIAN , who is known for his participation in the survival show Under Nineteen and being a part of several pre - debut lineups in the past . He was casted into the company by Won Byunghoon himself in early 2022 , specifically selected by him to join the project .

Not much is known about the circumstance of members ESMÉ and YOUNGRAE joining the project , only that they joined CELESTIAL MUSIC in approximately 2022 and 2023 respectively. Members HONG , JAEMIN and YUTA were transferred from JYP Entertainment to CELESTIAL MUSIC in early 2023 to join the project , when JYPE acquired CELESTIAL as an independent music label under them . At the time , PROJECT CAELESTIS was said to be composed of 10 members , but with intervention from the company's CEO , the line - up was eventually cut to eight , with members MASAMI and YOUNGRAE being added last minute in February of 2023 .

PROJECT CAELESTIS was officially unveiled at a trainee exhibition held on February 15 2023 at the companies new building in Gangnam - gu , Seoul , near the JYPE headquarters , however no names or faces of trainee's in the project were revealed , as it was only an about 1 hour long project presentation at the time . However , the members in the project , as well as trainees of other projects were introduced without mentioning further details of what projects they were in at the time .

Preparations for the official debut are said to have started in the early months of 2023 , while the members were holding busking events together near the company headquarters prior to being officially announced for the lineup . In July of 2023 , CELESTIAL MUSIC officially revealed their plans of debuting their first boy group , and simultaneously their first ever group , sometime between November and December of that year , confirming news reports released prior to the announcement .

CELESTIAL MUSIC official began unveiling members in October via YouTube , right after opening their official SNS accounts under the name PROJECT CAELESTIS , starting with the oldest member ADRIAN on October 02 , who performed a cover of TAEMIN's " Criminal " in his reveal video . He was followed by ESMÉ ( who still went by his birth name " NOAH " at the time ) and JAEMIN on October 09 2023 , the two vocalist performing a cover of Twilight theme song " Decode " , which is originally performed by American rock band Paramore . A week later , on October 16 , member MASAMI was revealed , performing the song " CONCRETE JUNGLE " by american metalcore band Bad Omens , shocking many with his metal screaming ability . Lastly , on October 23 , members HONG , YUTA and YOUNGRAE were revealed with their cover of the SMTOWN song " ZOO " originally performed by members of NCT and aespa .

On November 01 2023 , the official concept film of the group was posted to their YouTube account , showcasing an eerie concept which was quick to captivated people in only spaces . Despite its mostly positive reception , there were many voices criticizing CELESTIAL MUSIC for the concept at hand , which they deemed too dark and violent , with a murder scene and blood being briefly displayed without warning viewers beforehand . In responds , CELESTIAL MUSIC took the video down , apologizing for not including warnings for the film . The video was later reuploaded , warnings being included in the video and in the description .

Throughout November 2023 , several teasers and concept pictures were revealed , further captioning the public's attention , but without causing major waves in the Korean music industry . Along with the first teaser for their debut , CELESTIAL MUSIC changed the names of the groups social media accounts , confirming their official group name to be " DEITY "

On November 26 2023 , DEITY officially debuted with the release of their first mini album " DAY OF GODS " . Despite not reaching the masses , the album managed to secure the group a considerable fanbase , helping the music video for the lead singe " Sacrifice ( Eat Me Up ) " to reach 10 million views in it's first week and a half , although the buzz around the group eventually died down a little bit , yet still leaving the group with a stronger fanbase than before , leaving behind fans who enjoyed a " darker " concept than what is more common in the genre .

The groups plans for their first ever comeback were revealed very early on , right in the beginning of 2024 when the group held a special fanmeeting , where they performed their already released songs , as well as playing the instrumental of a yet unreleased song . On April 15 2024 , CELESTIAL MUSIC official announced DEITY's first ever comeback with the EP " THUNDER " , which was set to release on May 01 .

The time before the album was met with a concerning amount of inactivity by group members , which worried fans as the members usually posted on their socials on a daily basis . However , nothing changed up until " THUNDER " was officially released , after which the members started posting as they usually did . The release didn't gain as much traction as their debut album , many fans considering it too boring and some even not dark enough . One of the two b-sides on the album , " High Horse " , gained significantly more popularity that the albums lead single , due to the more melodic sound and more meaningful lyrics .

During the first music show performance for the release , member HONG sustained a significant ankle injury , after which he needed to be carried out of the venue . He was later found to have fractured his ankle , with doctors advising him to limit his movement and to get a significant amount of rest . Due to the injury he was not able to participate in any further promotions for the album . Even through his hiatus from performances , he maintained his activity on the groups social media platforms , regularly expressing his disappointment about himself since he wasn't able to perform anymore , fearing he may also be disappointing fans . The reacquiring mentions made fans worry about his well - being , yet , CELESTIAL MUSIC and HONG himself assured fans that he was doing fine .

After promotions had ended , fans noticed that member SUBIN had been absent from the groups social accounts and any scheduled activities they had in the time after the promotions . Despite several fans voicing their concerns to the company online , CELESTIAL MUSIC remind quiet on the matter . After being absent from the public eye for about two weeks , CELESTIAL MUSIC officially announced SUBIN's decision to leave the group on June 12 2024 , after only promoting with them for about 7 months . The abrupt decision surprised fans and let more questions arise about his actual circumstances , but CELESTIAL MUSIC didn't comment on the matter further .

Eight days after SUBIN's departure , on June 20 , the group released their first English single titled " Jaded " , surprising many with it's metalcore sound and heavy lyrics . Written by members ESMÉ and MASAMI , the single marked the groups break into the metal scene , an unusual step for a K - pop group . Till this day , "Jaded " is one of the groups most popular singles , as it even reached people outside of the Korean music industry , specifically metal fans and enthusiast .

Member HONG slowly started to come back to group activities with the release of the single , only while minimizing excessive movement . He fully rejoined all group activities having recovered fully with the release of their Japanese debut on July 20 , " Operation Ego " , which is entirely produced by member YUTA . It stood in stark contrast to the groups previous releases , bringing a more electronic sound into their discography . While gaining significant popularity among their Japanese fans , " Operation Ego " did not manage to empress Korean and overseas fans , remaining as one of their least streamed singles to this day . However , it remains their most streamed single in Japan .

In the beginning of October , CELESTIAL MUSIC revealed DEITY's comeback plans , releasing and eerie teaser for the next mini album . The album was revealed to be titled " DARKEST FOREST " with the release of a brand film only a few days later . Prior to the release , two pre - release singles were released , one on the 15th titled " Birth " and sung by members ADRAIN , ESMÉ , MASAMI and JAEMIN , and the other titled " Numb " on the 20th , which was performed by HONG , YUTA and YOUNGRAE .

As the release grew closer , DEITY gathered a lot of attention for the rather dark music video teasers for the albums title track , which was revealed to be titled " Jungle " with the first teaser released . The dark atmosphere immediately sparked interest in their fanbase , standing in stark contrast to their previous Korean release with a way more atmospheric style . The music video however sparked controversies by showing scenes referencing death or implying almost eccentric deaths in a dream like setting , often including violence and blood , with many fans complaining that it made them uncomfortable . Due to the level of violence , the music video was banned from being played in public by KBS and DEITY refrained from performing " Jungle " , instead focusing more on the second title track " 꺼어 (Are You Alive) " and the b-side " Flicker " , which soared in popularity among their Korean fans . Despite to troubles with " Jungle " in their home country , the song gained large popularity among European fans and in Australia , the musicality and performance capturing many people , despite the various dark undertones and references .

DEITY gained their first and as of September 2025 only music show win with " 꺼어 (Are You Alive) " , which was celebrated among their Korean fans as the song was fairly popular at that point . Until this day , " Jungle " still has only one official performance in Korea .

From November 01 2025 , a string of mysterious posts on DEITY's Twitter and Instagram cought the attention of many fans . The posts included eerie pictures of dark parts of a forest , the ocean & dark school corridors , as well as injured knees & hands and various objects like pens , knifes , razor blades and broken light bulbs , among other things . The post appeared in two day intervals in between the members normal posts and caused confusion among fans , as the reasons behind them stayed unknown for a whole month . After a few weeks of the posts appearing , they grew darker in imagery , often showing blood or a rather concerning degree of bodily injury . Many followers voiced their growing uneasiness , or rather comfortableness , about the posts , especially considering their frequency and seemingly growing escalation , with no information about why they were about being posted .

Surely enough , CELESTIAL MUSIC officially announced the release of DEITY's own drama named " Crescent " , showcasing the groups lore through the lenses of new characters . The members of the group would be acting in the drama as said characters and it would be released on their own Patreon account . The announcement made excitement arose among fans , yet , many cited their concern that CELESTIAL MUSIC might be overworking the members , but the company ignored these concerns .

In December , the release of an original sound track for the " Crescent " , which would be fully unveiled at a special end - of - year concert to be held on December 25 , was announced . The announcement of the concert was met with controversy once again , making fans fear that too much work and pressure was being put on the members for a second time . This time , CELESTIAL MUSIC responded to the concerns , stating in short that the members were getting enough rest between releases , filming for the drama and other activities , without going into specifics about the matter , instead leaving even more questions open .

Despite the previously mentioned concerns , the concert was well - attended and the group performed many previously released songs , as well as all five of the songs featured in the Crescent OST . The main OST , " Cellar Door " ,  especially caught peoples attention as it was entirely sung by member MASAMI and the heaviest song on the OST , and of DEITY's whole music catalog , compared to the other songs . " Hurricane " and " Secret Garden " quickly became fan favorites , the later of the two being sung by ADRIAN , ESMÉ , HONG , YUTA and YOUNGRAE . " they're all around us " , sung by MASAMI and JAEMIN as a duet , was also quick to capture fans with it's combination of powerful metal shouting and sensitive vocals , the duo quickly making the sing into a iconic song in the fandom . The least popular song ended up being " THE DRAIN " , although all songs were quick to become liked by their fans , including the aforementioned melodic 3:45 minutes musical piece .

The first five episodes of " Crescent " were aired on January 01 2025 and accompanied by a live stream hosted by the members of DEITY . They touched various topics like the filming process , their involvement in writing of the drama and the characters they portray . Member ESMÉ described the drama as " a greater extension of ourselves and a portray of our deeper colors . When we decided to make this drama out of our concept , we wanted to challenge the limitations of just us existing as idols and in this specific industry . We wanted to step outside of the ' mortal realm ' if you will . Our concept on its own is a lot , but this series is even more than what it is based on , it is more . More crazy , darker , or even more fucked up if you want to label it that way . But at the same time , it feels utterly real . An extension of us as a group . "

The first few episodes quickly gained critical acclaim among fans and critics , as well as fans of other groups and just drama enjoyers . The Patreon fee for their account being relatively cheep , many of their fans were actually able to buy the subscription and watch the drama legally .

Some Korean netizens would say that the drama was too dark , refraining from watching it as various scenes made them uncomfortable , especially the very obvious self - harm implications at the start of episode 1 . In responds to the criticism by netizens , member YOUNGRAE stated " That's the porpoise of the drama , isn't it ? It's supposed to make you question things , situations and structures in this world . It is supposed to be an uncomfortable watch sometimes , because coming to terms with the struggle of others and their reality is uncomfortable as well , it is only a reflection of that , of an unfair world . Of course , if some topics trigger you , that is a whole different situation and totally okay . Always keep yourselves safe ! "

With the release of the drama , CELESTIAL MUSIC also announced DEITY's next comeback titled " BEWITCHED " , set to release only ten days after the drama's premier , on January 10 . Quickly , the concept photos for the release gained traction among their fans , holding more elegance than the usually more messy concepts of their releases . Originally meant as the debut song for CELESTIAL MUSIC's girl group whose plans fell through in 2020 , DEITY now took over the release , making it their own . The choreography was made by member MASAMI with help from HONG , who is also credited , and other choreographers in the company . It marked his debut into choreographing their release and from that point on , MASAMI would be credited for almost every of their release's dances .

After promotions for the release had winded down , a set of photos of member YOUNGRAE and another , unidentified boy , whose face was blurred in the pictures leaked , started cycling in online communities , first posted by an anonymous member of a Naver forum . According to the user , the photos implied an obvious romantic involvement , labeling the two if them as boyfriends , the claim being supported by the most by pictures of shared kisses . As it gained more traction and the the pictures started being shared by various users , many questions arose . Although neither parties involved commented on the photos , fans & netizens began asking questions and sending comments to YOUNGRAE's Instagram account , many of which where hateful in nature and involved homophobic remarks , although nothing was confirmed at that point . Eventually , the comments escalated so much that comments under YOUNGRAE's posts , and those involving him on the groups official accounts , where temporarily closed . Yet , the company still didn't comment on the matter .

Eventually , after a few weeks of nothing being addressed , YOUNGRAE took to his Instagram account to explain the occurrence of the photos . He explained that the photos where from when he was 15 and in his first year of high school , still living in his hometown at the time . He confirmed that they were indeed dating at the time , although they have been out of contact ever since YOUNGRAE moved to Seoul to become a trainee . In addition , he said that the photos hailed from an old private , now unused Instagram account that he had at the time and that he even forgot the pictures existed in this way online . In the statement , he formally stated that he was Bisexual , feeling , or rather being forced to come out due to the now public photos and ongoing pressure he felt from fans and netizens alike . He took the chance to apologize as well , mostly for waiting so long to face peoples open question .

After YOUNGRAE's statement , CELESTIAL MUSIC also posted a comment on the matter , stating that " we are sorry for keeping fans and the public shut out for so long . " Additionally , they stated that YOUNGRAE would be entering a indefinite hiatus to reflect on his actions , as well as stepping back from the involvement of users online . They would also be forwarding the matter to police , seeing a breach of privacy for their artist due to the seemingly hacked account. However , it was later revealed that the company never involved police .

After a five month long hiatus , YOUNGRAE returned back to the group , many fans noting that in official content he now seemed more withdrawn , more careful of what he was saying , worrying many . Along with his return , CELESTIAL MUSIC announced the release of the groups second English single planned to be put out the next week . As a teaser , an instrumental snippet was posted and immediately fans pointed out similarities to American band Deftones , voicing excitement for it's upcoming release . The company also announced plans for another Korean release , set to release a month after the English single .

On June 01 2025 , DEITY released " my mind is a mountain " as their second English single . Quickly , the release grew to a fan favorite , mostly because of the similarities to critically acclaimed band Deftones and because it felt different to their usual sound . It made a quick entry into the Billboard Hot 100 , but fell out of the ranking just as quickly as it entered .

Immediately after " my mind is a mountain " , preparations for their next Korean release began with the first teaser being released . A brand film followed shortly after , continuing the groups established pre - release routine . However , there were no pre - released songs for this mini album , instead , an album medley was released , capturing fans with it's diverse palate . The album would later be revealed to be titled " DEVOTION " and released on July 01 . Quickly , the lead single " Bad Desire (With or Without You) " enchanted fans of the group , however , it's rather short length disappointed many . Despite the lead singles undeniable popularity , the most popular song ended up being " Bones " , a unit b - side performed by ADRIAN , MASAMI and YOUNGRAE . Even the intro , " i apologies if you feel something " , grew fairly popular , capturing especially their UK fans .

Although fans were still complaining to the company that DEITY's scheduled was too packed , CELESTIAL MUSIC announced that they would release their first full lenght English album , written and produced entirely by the members themselves , and meant to serve as a musical prologue for " Crescent " , on September 15 . The teasers and audio snippets were quick to capture fans despite the initial criticism voiced to the company and the album was seen as the groups most important release . Describing it as a Twitter user put it " DEITY's self - symphony " , or even their magnum opus , for more eccentric / dramatic fans . The first out of three lead singles of the 13 track long album , " Specter " , was released before the album on September 05 , capturing people in the fandom and in metalcore spaces for its atmospheric sound and feel , as well as sorrowful lyrics . They even performed the song on a music show , taking assistance from the newly debuted South Korean - Japanese band Rot To Decease , whose five members took over the instrumental sections , creating a memorable performance .

The full album was officially released on September 15 and gained a lot of attention by music enjoyers world wide , mostly due the immersive experience provided by the various music videos and visualizers released . Fans seemed to be enjoying " Too Close / Too Late " the most out of the whole track list due to the harmonic combination of sensitive vocals and powerful instrumental . " Silk & Static " was also up in the ranks , vocals and powerful screaming giving the song a unique feel . What captured fans the most , however , was the well executed connection between the " Crescent " characters and the albums lyrics . In that regard , " Kill or be Killed " was able to immerse many people , directly connecting to reacquiring themes in the drama to the album .

On November 01 2025 , the group announced the release of their first English single " Bloodlust " , set to release on November 09 . It is promoted as the soundtrack for a special , movie-length episode of their drama , which would be released on the day of the groups second debut anniversary , November 26 2025 .
