Platypus Intervention
The day started like any other day. The boys were in the backyard, building some contraption. Candace was trying to bust them. Perry got annoyed at her shouting and headed down to his base. It just so happened Major Monagram had a mission for him.
After receiving his mission from OWCA, Perry head straight towards Doofenshmirtz's home. As he flew over by the f shaped building, the jingle played on cue. "Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated!" Perry jumped out of his small jet and burst through the door.
"Perry the platypus, how unexpected," Doofenshmirtz greeted. Then, pulling a lever, the hunch back scientist let out a laugh. A cage fell onto Perry, trapping him. He stood defensively. "And by unexpected, I mean completely expected!" Doofenshmirtz grinned.
Striding over to his machine, Doof held his hands widely to dramatize his project. "Behold! The lackofselfconfidence-inator!" he announced. Perry glared at him, determined to put his evil to an end. "Now, Perry the platypus, you may be asking yourself, why would Doofenshmirtz build such a device? Well I'll tell you!" Doof went on to explain.
Perry growled, making his clicking sound. "Hey! Don't interrupt me," Do of scolded.
"Now, as I was saying, one day while I was looking at my goodie two shoes brother, Roger's campaign, I was trying to figure out the secret to his success. Why did he win the election? How did he convince people to vote for him? Then I figured it out! He had self confidence! He first had to believe in himself before he could convince others to. So, all I need to do is hit him with my lackofselfconfidence-inator, and he will totally be lacking self confidence! Then no one will vote for him, because even he wouldn't vote for himself!" Doof finished his speech off with an evil laugh.
To the scientist's surprise, Perry had escaped and landed a kick to his face. "Ow! Perry the platypus? How ever did you escape!" Doof questioned. Perry clicked his tongue and gestured to a laser in his hat. Then he pointed to the iron bars of the cage, which had be cut back. Doof frowned. "That man at the store told me it was platypus proof! I better get my money back!" he grumbled.
Doof grabbed a nearby wrench and swung for Perry. He jumped over the wrench and slapped Do of in the face with his tail. Then he kicked him on his back. Doof grabbed Perry and threw him off. The platypus skidded on the ground, his back hitting the hard metal. Doof got to his feet and stood over his nemesis. "Ha! Looks like the shoe's on the other foot, or the leg's on the other hand? Eh, I don't know. Basically, the tables have turned, Perry the platypus," Doof said, getting ready to swing down on Perry.
The fight was stopped by the sound of the doorbell. "Vanessa, sweetie, can you get the door? I'm in the middle of defeating Perry the platypus," Doof said. "Sure, dad," Vanessa said, coming from the other room. She stepped around their fight and to the door.
Doof went on fighting Perry while she got the door. Perry defended himself from the wrench with his tail.
Perry froze when he heard Vanessa at the door. "Oh, hey Ferb," she said. Perry's eyes shot towards the door. He saw the green haired boy standing in the doorway. Perry's eyes widened, and he quickly pushed Doof off of him. Thinking quickly, Perry ran to the nearest object that could hide him. That just so happened to be Doof's lackofselfconfidence-inator.
Perry bit his beak, hoping Ferb wouldn't spot him. "Perry the platypus, where did you go?" Doof called. Looking around the corner, he watched Ferb and Vanessa. "Oh, Candace sent you over to return the stuff she borrowed?" Vanessa asked. Ferb nodded. Vanessa invited the boy inside. Perry winced. It looked like Ferb would be there a while, as Vanessa offered him a muffin.
As she and Ferb headed towards the kitchen, Perry saw a look in Ferb's eye. To any random person, Ferb looked like how he always did. But to his close friends and family, each blank expression Ferb had were each completely different. And now Ferb had a rare blank expression on. Perry gasped when he realized what it was. Romance.
Perry looked between Vanessa and Ferb. It couldn't be. Could it?
Soon, the two had gone to the kitchen, making it safe for Perry to come out. Doof smiled when he saw Perry. "There you are, Perry the platypus. Now, where were we?" Doof said. "Oh right, I was trying to destroy you," he answered himself. He tried a swing for the platypus. Perry dodged, but he seemed distracted.
Doof put a hand on his hip and frowned. "Look, Perry, it's not as fun when you don't give your hundred percent. What's up with you?" he questioned.
Perry purred. "What?" Doof asked again. Perry's eyes were locked on the kitchen walkway where Vanessa and Ferb went. "Hey Perry," Doof said, snapping his fingers to get his attention. Perry looked to Doof. "Grrrr," he clicked his tongue.
"I don't speak platypus, what does that mean?" Doof wondered. Perry looked focused again and grabbed Doof's wrist. Then he dragged him towards the kitchen. "Perry the platypus, where are we going?" Doof asked.
The two leaned around the walkway corner, watching Vanessa and Ferb. "Why are you acting so weird. It's got something to do with that green haired kid, doesn't it?" Doof guessed. Perry nodded. Then he pushed him back a bit to make sure Ferb and Vanessa couldn't see them.
Perry started making his noise, trying to tell Doof what to do. "Uh huh, I think I got it," Doof said. Perry smiled. "Except... start all over again, I have no clue what you said." Perry frowned and face palmed.
...
Doof stared down at Perry. "You, sir, are a strange platypus."
Doof still didn't entirely understand why Perry wanted him to put his pants on his head and try to embarrass Vanessa in front of that boy, but a lot of things didn't make sense to Doof.
After putting his pants on his head, Doof stood in the doorway of the kitchen. He looked back at Perry, who just waved him forward. Doof then ran into the kitchen yelping like a madman. Ferb and Vanessa stopped their conversation and just stared.
"Oh look at me! I'm crazy. And I've got pants. On my head," Doof said, flapping the pant legs in their faces.
Vanessa scooted back in her chair. "Um...dad?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"What?" Doof asked, just standing there now.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm being crazy, what does it look like I'm doing?"
Vanessa rested her elbows on the table and fiddled idly with a little bolt left on the table. "Okay then. I'll let you get back to it," she said.
Doof put his hands on his hips. "What? You're not going to introduce me to your friend?" he said.
Vanessa looked at Ferb, who looked surprisingly not freaked out by a man with pants on his head. "Dad, this is Ferb," she said with a smile.
Doof stuck out his hand to the green haired boy. Ferb shook his hand. "Ooh, what a firm handshake you have. Did you know your head looks like my building?" Doof said. Ferb just stared at him. Doof waited for a response. When none came, he moved to leave the room. "And he's quiet. That means he can't argue. He's a keeper Vanessa. He's not a whiner like that Johnny," Doof said, leaving the kitchen.
Vanessa and Ferb exchanged a glance. "Wait, dad it's not like that! He's ten!" Vanessa called.
Ferb raised his eyebrows flirtatiously and clicked his tongue. Vanessa rolled her eyes with a playful smile.
Doof found Perry hiding behind the doorway to the kitchen. Perry face palmed, growling. "What? What did I do? You know, your platypus language is very confusing. It's weird little noises like grgrgrgrgrgrgrgr," Doof said, with his best impression of Perry's sound. Perry ignored him and started pacing in circles, thinking.
(This wouldn't be Phineas and Ferb without a musical montage! I didn't put a song so you'll have to imagine one. Maybe My Nemesis. It's a montage of Perry's failed plans.)
Doof grabbed a cup of coffee from the counter. He glanced at Perry who was hiding behind the doorway. The teal platypus gave him a thumbs up. Doof pretended to trip, spilling the coffee on Vanessa. She jumped out of her seat in surprise. Thankfully, it wasn't scolding, but it was still wet. She gave her dad a look and he just shrugged innocently. Ferb gave her a handkerchief to wipe herself down. She took it with a smile. Perry frowned.
But Perry would not give up so easily. He snuck under the table and crawled to Ferb's side. Perry found a loose thread in his pants. He tried to pull it, but it wouldn't come undone. Perry raised a questioning eyebrow. Finding a tag at the bottom of Ferb's pant leg, Perry read it to himself. Phineas and Ferb's un-unraveling pants! You'll never have a loose thread again. Perry grumbled. Curse his boys' ingenuity!
Third time's a charm. Standing on the deck, Doof turned the last bolt on his machine. Doof looked to Perry, and Perry nodded. Doof pressed the big red button on his makeeverythingtentimeslouder-inator, which could just as easily be called an amplifier or just a very large speaker. The makeeverythingtentimeslouder-inator started blaring out crazy loud music. Perry covered his ears as the speaker played some music by Love Handle. Perry thought it highly inappropriate that it only played Love Handle, since he was trying to prevent romance.
Some people from the sidewalk shouted for them to, "Turn that dang thing off!" Perry smiled. If nothing else got Ferb to leave, then this was sure to make him go home.
Vanessa came from the kitchen and stepped up to Doof. She glared at him, then turned off the machine with the press of a button. "Thank you!" someone called from below.
Doof started to protest and try to turn it back on, but Vanessa gave him a kiss on the cheek, shutting him up. Then she went back to the kitchen.
They tried attempt after attempt to get Ferb to leave. Even stuff that didn't even make any sense. And yet Ferb and Vanessa went on talking, oblivious to Doof and Perry's tricks.
Finally Perry and Doof flopped down on the floor of the deck.
"I still don't really get what we're trying to do, Perry the platypus, but whatever it is, I don't think we're doing it," Doof said, wiping sweat from his brow. Perry, laying next to Doof, growled.
They heard the sound of mechanical movement and Norm stood over them. "Sir , why are you laying on the floor with a platypus?" Norm wondered.
"I don't know, why don't you ask Perry the platypus," Doof said. Norm picked up Doofenshmirtz and set him on his feet. "Thank you, Norm. Perry why don't you just go home? I was going to use my inator and you were going to thwart me, but the moment's gone, so we can just be done for today," Doof said. Perry gave him a look. "Oh, right. Curse you, Perry the platypus," Doof said, without any enthusiasm because he didn't really have a reason to be mad.
Norm moved to help Perry to his feet. But instead, he ended up chucking him across the room, and he flew straight into the kitchen.
Doof gasped. "Norm! What was that!" he shouted.
"Sorry. I thought he was heavier," Norm said.
Doof threw his hands up frustrated. "How! He's like, a tiny little platypus!"
Perry shot through the air and through the kitchen doorway. Seeing Ferb, Perry quickly took off his hat. He landed at Ferb's feet. Ferb looked down. "Oh. There you are Perry," he said, picking up the platypus. Perry gave a purr, his eyes crossed. Ferb set him on his lap and stroked his fur.
Vanessa raised an eyebrow. "Perry?" she said.
Ferb nodded. "My pet platypus. But he doesn't do much, or so says Phineas," he explained. Vanessa eyed Perry strangely and nodded.
"Uh-huh," she said with a smirk. Perry gave another purr to seem convincing.
Ferb put Perry on the table and got up. "You don't mind if I use the bathroom, do you?" he asked.
"Oh, yeah. It's down the hall, first door on the left," she said. He nodded and left.
After he was gone, Vanessa turned her attention back to Perry. "So, Ferb's your host family, eh?" she smirked. Perry continued looking like his derpy little platypus cover. "Oh come on, you can't fool me. Don't worry, I won't tell Ferb or my dad," she said, leaning back in her chair. Perry dropped his cover and smiled at her.
Vanessa folded her hands and held her head up in her hands. "By the way, why are you and him acting so weird?" she wondered, not really looking at anything in particular. Perry growled and Vanessa was taken back. "Ferb has a crush on me? Since when?" she said. Perry deadpanned. She was as oblivious as Phineas when it came to Ferb and Isabella.
Vanessa chuckled. "Alright, alright, I can see it now. I don't get why that's such a big deal though," she said. Just then, Ferb walked back into the room. Perry quickly reverted back to his cover. His eyes shifted between Vanessa and Ferb as he took a seat. An idea crept into Perry's mind. He hopped down from the table and walked back to the deck. Once he was in the clear, he put his fedora back on and stood up on his feet.
"Ah, Perry the platypus, you're back," Doof greeted. He gave Norm a look. "Sorry about that, Perry the platypus," he said a bit bitterly.
"I am sorry. I just want your approval father," Norm said. His smile lit up as he spoke.
Doof glared at him. "I'm not your father and you'll only get my approval if you take over the Tri state area or something," he said.
Perry was distracted from their pointless conversation by one of Doofenshmirtz' machines. The lackofselfconfidence-inator. Perry bit his lip thinking. Nothing else had worked so far. And he was getting desperate. Maybe...
...
"... and I just think it's a lot of stress, because not only am I juggling my grades and homework and I'm working on getting this internship, but then Johnny over here is being a total baby about that whole thing..." Vanessa went on and on, pouring out all her thoughts to Ferb. He watched her, listening intently. Once she had finished her story, she looked directly at Ferb.
The green haired boy got lost in her deep brown eyes. They were so soft and enchanting, while also firm and determined. Ferb could sit and stare in her eyes all day. He would do anything for this girl, even if she never gave anything in return, even as much as a thank you. The only thing he would gain would be the sheer pride of helping her.
"So, what do you think?" she said, snapping him back to reality.
He opened his mouth to speak, but just then a green beam hit him. Once it was gone, Ferb found himself at a loss for words. His mouth was dry and his cheeks burned a bright red. He began to mentally panic. His thoughts controlled him.
Speak! Why won't you speak!
I must look so stupid right now!
Oh my gosh, you're embarrassing yourself in front of Vanessa!
She'll never want to hang out with you again!
What the heck! Why am I freaking out right now!
She's too perfect for me!
Whatever you say next could be life and death!
It'll determine your entire fate with her!
Why did I ever think I had a shot with her!
?!
Ferb stiffened. He found himself avoiding eye contact with her and his palms began to sweat.
Vanessa raised an eyebrow. "Ferb? Are you okay?" she asked. Ferb gulped.
Yup, she thinks I'm weird.
Ferb stood up from his seat and nodded. "I- I-" he stuttered. He bit his lip. He never felt or acted like this before. Why start now? Was talking to Vanessa always this scary?
Vanessa watched him, waiting patiently for what he would say. Ferb took a deep breath. "I've got to go. I- I'll see you around," he said, trying to cover his uneasiness.
"Ooookay," Vanessa said, tilting her head confused. And with that, Ferb left.
Perry watched from around the corner as Ferb left. He let out a sigh, thankful that he was gone. Perry's eyes wandered to the lackofselfconfidence-inator. He bit his lip, frowning. He had used an inator on one of his best friends. Guilt tugged at the platypus, but he pushed it away. Perry had accidentally used tons of inators on the boys and their projects. This was no different. Except...
This time it was on purpose.
Doof walked over to Perry. "I don't know why you shot my inator at the that green haired boy, but I'm sure you've got your own platypus reasons," he said, shrugging it off. He smirked, gears turning in his head with an idea before walking over to the machine. "And now that you've conveniently tested it out for me, I can use it on Roger!"
He shoved his back against the inator, pushing it to the balcony. With an evil smile on his face, Doof aimed the inator. Perry jumped on top of the device, glaring at the scientist. "What? You didn't expect me not to use it, after all that weird stuff you made me do, did you?" Doof said.
Perry tried to land a kick on Doof, but he ducked. The scientist took hold of the machine handles and aimed it. "Now, to find Roger." Doof was surprised to see an orange blob through the scope. He looked up. "Perry, move your tail out of the way. It's in my shot," he said. Perry growled and Doof frowned.
Doof began trying to shake Perry off of the device. "Perry the platypus, you are being really annoying today!" Doof shouted, starting to get angry. Perry landed a punch right on Doof's nose, sending him back. Perry stood over the scientist on the floor. Doof began trying to reach the "fire" button with his foot. "You haven't beaten me yet Perry the platypus!"
Perry pushed the wheeled inator over an inch, causing Doof to press the "self destruct" button instead. "Oops," Doof said, eyes wide. Perry growled. Doof rolled his eyes. "Now you've defeated me, Perry the platypus."
Perry stepped up to the edge of the balcony and jumped off. "Curse you, Perry the platypus!" Doof called after him. Perry released his hang glider and flew over the city. Just behind him, the top of the D.E. Inc building exploded. And Perry headed home.
The next morning, Perry stepped outside. The boys were already leaning back against their tree, planning out their day. Out of view, Perry checked his watch. He still had a little bit of time to spend the morning with them before he went to work.
He walked up to them, his paws on the soft grass. He purred before curling up between then. Phineas scratched the platypus' head.
"Well, Ferb, why don't we build this?" Phineas said, handing Ferb some blueprints. After scanning them over, Ferb shook his head. Phineas raised an eyebrow. "Why not? You've said no to every other project I've showed you," he said.
Perry's interest was peaked.
"I just they're all a little... ambitious," Ferb said.
"Well, yeah, that's sort of the point," Phineas said.
The boys went on talking, but Perry wasn't paying attention to them anymore. He stood up and walked around the house so the boys couldn't see him. He stood on his hind legs and slipped on his fedora. Perry frowned and bit his beak. He had messed up big time.
Taking in a deep breath, the platypus thought over a plan. He just had to get Ferb's self confidence back and then everything would go back to normal. Perry had already destroyed the machine, so he'd have to find some other way to do it.
He glanced around the side of the house. Ferb had gone inside, leaving Phineas. Perry took off his hat an fell on his paws. He stepped up to the red headed boy and purred.
"Oh, there you are Perry," Phineas said, picking up the platypus. "Is Ferb acting weird to you?" Perry bit his beak. "Yeah, he seems less confident," Phineas said, answering his own question. A smile crossed Phineas' face. "But, I've got a plan to boost his confidence. Here, take a look at this," he said, pulling out his phone. He held the screen for Perry to see.
"I'm going to enter him in the Let's all dance till we're sick competition! Ferb's great at dancing, so I'm sure he'll win," Phineas said.
Perry purred. It actually wasn't a bad idea.
Phineas typed in Ferb's information quickly then smiled. "Done! The competition is tomorrow, so I should go tell Ferb." His phone buzzed and he looked down. "Oops, looks like I accidentally signed him up as a dancing couple instead of a single," he said. Perry mentally rolled his eyes with a smirk. Phineas' face lit up. He set Perry on the ground and headed inside. "Hey Candace!" he called, looking for his older sister.
...
The day of the dancing competition came. And Phineas had forgotten one very important thing: to actually tell Ferb.
Phineas showed up at the mall with Perry under his arm, Candace texting on her phone, and a very confused Ferb. "Why are we here?" Ferb asked.
Phineas smiled. "For that!" he said, pointing. Ferb followed his brother's gaze to a large sign that read, "Let's All Dance Till We're Sick!" A line trailed from the entry of the studio. People filled the mall with chatter. So. Many. People.
Perry watched Ferb, worriedly. The green haired boy's eyes widened at the sight of the line. He remained silent, but both Phineas and Perry could tell what he was thinking. Phineas set a reassuring hand on Ferb's shoulder. "Ferb, you're the best dancer I know. You've got this!"
Perry bit his beak. He hoped the effects of the inator would wear off soon.
After waiting in line and getting signed in, the Flynn-Fletcher kids waited backstage. Phineas tried to encourage Ferb some more and Perry chirped in response. Ferb pet Perry for comfort, nodding at his brother's words.
"Now, all you and Candace have to do is-" Phineas began but stopped. "Candace, are you even listening?" he said, turning to the red head.
Candace nodded, though it was obvious she wasn't. She had her eyes locked on her phone, texting away. Phineas rolled his eyes and snapped his fingers in her face. "Yeah, sure whatever you said," she mumbled.
Perry sighed. A stage hand stepped over to them. "Five minutes," he said. Phineas and Ferb nodded.
Candace's eyes lit up at her phone. "Oh! Stacy says Jeremy is working at the food court! Eeeeh!" she said. She turned to leave, but Phineas stopped her.
"But Candace! It's about to start!" he said.
"Sorry boys, but I've got a date with a cute blonde boy." She left them, making Ferb even more nervous.
Phineas let his arms sag. "Where are we going to find another dance partner in time?"
Perry walked around, hoping for a solution. He peeked out of the curtain, gazing over the audience. It was a lot of people, and with the effects of the ray, Ferb might have a panic attack right there on stage.
To his surprise, Perry's eyes landed on a certain brown haired girl. Vanessa. Perry looked back at his boys. They were now both panicked. Perry glanced at Vanessa again.
Perry didn't really want to ask her for help. That had been the whole reason Perry used the inator. But he had to act fast. Finally, Perry sucked up his pride and waddled over to her.
...
The dancers took their places on stage. Phineas shoved a reluctant Ferb with them. The boy stood out like a sore thumb amongst all the other couples. And when the music started playing, he tensed. Not only would everyone in Danville see him embarrass himself, but anyone watching it on television too.
All the other couples had started dancing while Ferb just stood there, a look of terror on his face. He was sure to be eliminated soon.
The sound of clipping heels brought him out of his fear trance. He looked to his left to find Vanessa walking towards him. "Need some help?" she whispered to him. His face turned a bright pink. Now he was also embarrassing himself in front of Vanessa.
Vanessa took his hand. "Hey, it's alright. Perry told me everything."
At first, Ferb was confused at that. Her eyes widened and she corrected herself. "I mean... you're brother told me. Yep. That's what I meant. Come on, let's just dance," she said, started to shake her hips.
Ferb followed along, starting to dance a bit. He smiled after a while, starting to get a hang of it. He watched as other competitors began to be eliminated. At first that filled him with hope of possibly winning, but then it just reminded him that he too at any moment could lose.
He tripped over his own foot, stumbling a bit. Vanessa caught him when he tripped in her arms. "Like my dad always says, just make it look like it was on purpose," Vanessa said, setting him back on his feet. He chuckled a bit at that and started to get back into the groove.
Every once in a while, Ferb would mess up, but Vanessa was always there to help him back up. He smiled at her and started to gain confidence again. He began to ignore the audience and judges watching him and just focused on one thing. Vanessa. She was his world right now, and as long as she was there, he had nothing to worry about.
The two came into a beautiful rhythm. Some of the judges sat on the side watching. "Wow that was amazing!" one said, his eyes following the duo. "That may be the best dance move I've ever seen done by any dancer or some sort of dancing robot! I'm so glad I'm watching this. It's a shame to anybody who doesn't know what's going in... Woah! Did you see that move! I'm so glad I'm facing towards it and am able to see how spectacular this is. I couldn't imagine missing out on this."
Ferb was snapped back to reality by cheering. He looked around. He and Vanessa were the only ones left. He breathed heavily from so much dancing, a smile appearing on his face. Vanessa smiled at him. "Great job Ferb! We won!"
Ferb grinned even wider, a new feeling of pride coming over him. He picked out his brother and platypus in the crowd. Phineas was cheering for him loudly, holding Perry up. The red headed boy used his hands to make the platypus clap, to which Perry just purred.
Vanessa planted a kiss on Ferb's cheek, causing him to fall into a "oh my goodness Vanessa is so beautiful" montage. He clicked his tongue and made a growl, making Vanessa laugh.
...
After all the awards were handed out, Phineas and Perry went to meet Ferb and Vanessa. "That was amazing!" Phineas cheered. Perry purred, earning a scratch from Vanessa.
"Anytime," she said, smirking. "I'll see you guys around," she said before turning to leave. She gave one last wave to Ferb.
He stared after her. Phineas elbowed him playfully in the side. "She is way to old for you," he snickered.
"Maybe," Ferb said, still watching after Vanessa, a subtle look of love in his eyes. "But age ain't nothing but a number."
The boys went on laughing and talking, fading into background noise. Perry looked between Ferb and Vanessa. He still was unsure about the two. But he would have to learn to accept it. At least things were back to normal.
And besides, it was just a mild crush. It wasn't like two random guys named Dan and Swampy would make it cannon with one scene in an age up episode, right? Eh, Perry was sure it wasn't anything to worry about.
A/N FERBNESSA IS MY OTP!!!!
