T W E N T Y - F O U R

Scarlett Vanderburg's POV

"What are you making?"

I don't know what kind of energy Calix was running on but he was up and being productive while the rest of us were making the best of not having any morning commitments and were sleeping in.

"Breakfast." He was cooking up eggs and the toaster was on. There was also something in the oven.

"Can I help?"

Cal pauses and studies me. He then walks over to me and easily lifts me to sit on the counter where I had a view of everything but wasn't in the way.

"How about you sit there and rest for a bit while I finish, I'm almost done."

"Okay, then I'll clear up after breakfast." I declare, there was no way he was doing everything.

"Sure Angel." his tone showed me he didn't want to clean up but he just agreed with me to satisfy me. My eyes narrow on him. If he thought he was winning this he was sorely mistaken, I was a lawyer and a great one at that. "I actually had something I wanted to ask you?"

"Yes?" When I looked at Cal he wouldn't meet my eye, instead, he was seemingly fixated on the breakfast he was making.

"I know we have to go back to the city soon, back to real life and all that but I was wondering while we are here if you'd let me take you out tomorrow, for the day?"

I had never seen Calix Radcliff nervous. I had seen him happy, angry, sad and almost every other emotion in the few months I had known him but nervousness wasn't normally one of the emotions he showed. It was kind of an honour, he cared enough about my opinion to be nervous about my reaction.

"Are you asking me out, Radcliff?" I breathe out.

"If that's what you would like, then yes Scarlett I want to take you on a date."

This wasn't meant to happen, how was I meant to go back to New York and pretend this didn't happen? Eyes were going to be on us as soon as we returned home, I couldn't be in a relationship with my client, and that would reflect badly on both Calix and me. But I didn't have in me to say no, I couldn't.

"Will we be able to go back for another few weeks, we have like six weeks before we're able to try a relationship, Cal."

"The way I see it Scarlett is I've been yours from the moment I walked into your office all those months ago, I don't know what you did but you've had me hooked from that day onwards. It will be exciting to go back and pretend I don't feel something for you but all good things are worth the wait."

I studied him, Calix's skin was an even richer tan colour from the days we have spent on the beach, and his dark eyes studied me as I studied him right back.

"Okay," I whisper softer, only his ears could pick up my words.

"Okay?" he asked, confirming what I was answering.

"I'd love to go on a date with you Mr Radcliff."

A smile spread across his lips, a rare one of the smiles he only gave when he was totally happy, he leaned down to where I sat brushing his lips so lightly over my cheeks it felt like nothing more than a feather. Involuntarily I let my eyes close and my feelings take over.

"Why don't you go and call the others down for breakfast?"

Still dazed I hop off the counter and with one last look I leave the kitchen and go off in search of my friends, internally squealing at the thought of going on a date.

The place Imogen's parents had rented out was massive and very beautifully decorated. If I lived somewhere around here I think I would like to have something like this. The coastal decorations, white as a base with sprinkles of light blue and golden brown pull everything together. This decor though would look out of place in New York, it just didn't match the skyscrapers and grey skied I was used to.

I knock on the door to the room Silas and Imogen were in and even though I had permission to enter I still cover my eyes as I enter. I had learnt the hard way after walking into Imogen's and Silas's offices one time too many times.

"You can look, Lettie." Imogen sighs and I peek just in time to see her roll her eyes at me. Despite what she was trying to come across as she looked a little frazzled and her hair and shirt were out of place.

"What did you want, Vanderburg?"

One thing about Silas was he was extremely irritable when his time with Imogen was interrupted, I found it amusing as it was so opposite to his everyday sunshine personality.

"Breakfast is ready."

"Okay and?" Silas asks in a blank tone, Imogen swats his arm and he has the nerve to look at her apologetically but doesn't offer anything to me.

He was so obsessed. I loved seeing my friend in a healthy relationship.

"We're coming, Lett."

I exit the room and head upstairs to Quinn's room.

"Aunty Lettie!" I heard a squeal coming from Quinn's laptop and the towhead toddler stared back at me with a grin that was missing a couple of teeth.

"Rhett!" I exclaimed with just as much enthusiasm as he had greeted me with. "How are you, big boy?"

"I'm okay, I miss you though. When are you coming back?"

"In just two more sleeps baby, when you go to sleep today and then tomorrow night and when you wake up the next day we'll be there, okay?"

"Okay." He recites.

"I miss you too, and so does your dad. I'll see you soon."

I waited for Quinn to say goodbye to his son who was almost ready for school.

"You miss him?" I asked Quinn, phrased as a question but we both knew it was a statement.

"I never knew my heart could hurt like this, I mean sure I've been heartbroken before but this isn't the same. I just want to be with him all the time and not let him go, I also want a million more of him."

"I can guarantee it just all goes downhill after the first kid, I mean look at my siblings."

"You know you're the youngest right?" he teases.

"Well of course there are anomalies Q, there always are in science."

"Of course." Quinn knows me better than anyone so of course, he noticed there was something up with me. "So what's got you so excited, Lettie bug?"

"I may or may not have been asked out on a date." Quinn's baby blue eyes widened.

"Calix asked you right?"

"Who else?" I scoffed, taking a seat on his bed.

"And you said yes?" He stared at me expectantly, a smile rising across his face when I nodded in confirmation. "I'm happy for you, Calix is a lot better than Ryan."

"You know just as well as I did that I was never into Ryan."

"I know. I'm sorry I let them pressure you into dating him, I should have said something."

"You were wrapped around Selene's finger, unfortunately, which I don't mind it gave us Everett and honestly I'm so glad he's here."

"I know, but I just wanted to let you know I regret not standing up for you." I pulled him into a side hug, it wasn't his fault just like I had come to realise it wasn't mine either. We were just placed in unfortunate circumstances and tried to make the best of it. The blame lies mainly on two people and a couple of others for never saying anything but it wasn't our fault.

"Come on, Cal made breakfast. And I'm sure Imogen will want to go shopping once she finds out about my date."

I'm so sorry for going MIA with this book for so long, I've just been working on this chapter slowly as I have been doing. There are only another dozen or so chapters left so hopefully I can finish it soon.

I hope you enjoy it, I will try and get another chapter up in the next few weeks but school has been kicking my but.

Let me know what you think about this chapter, and please vote and comment.
