Chapter 22: Recovery?
Picture: Alexia Moore
Normal POV
"She's...immune..." Ian repeated again, holding Ashley close to him.
"Are you serious?" Felix questioned, concentrating on the road.
"Yeah...That's what the reading said.." Ian panted, he was still out of breath.
Ashley continued to hold onto Ian, she didn't want to let go, she was still shaking in fear and in so much pain, she felt calmer in Ian's arms for some reason, it was like he knew exactly what to do to stop her from becoming tense. She looked up at Ian's amazing blue eyes, in worry.
"H-How am I immune?" Ashley stammered in confusion, looking at her bite on her arm.
"I don't know....but I couldn't let them take you...They would've tried to kill you for the cure.." Ian sighed, he then muttered silently, "I can't lose you....you're like a sister to me.."
Felix continued driving on the rocky, bumpy road. The car was running low on gas, it was only a matter of time before they were running on fumes. They were still driving through the forest, although an opening could be seen far off in the distance, like a light shining through a tunnel. Cracks of sunlight were glimmering onto the dry, tree's leaves, making them turn to an almost brown colour.
"How much gas is left?" Anthony asked, we could all hear the very small amount of gas, moving around in its tank.
"Next to none.." Felix sighed, "We need to find a gas station, quickly, since I don't know how much longer this car can take..." He gripped onto the steering wheel tightly, turning right to reveal a opening to get out of the forest.
"Hopefully, we can find some first aid stuff in there too, maybe some painkillers.." Ian spoke quietly, looking down to see Ashley lying her head on his chest, fast asleep. He could feel her heart beating slightly faster than usual, she looked very... peaceful.
"Yeah, we're running low on supplies already, we seem to be okay on ammunition, but food and first aid is a completely different story..." Mark huffed, looking out the window.
"There's a gas station, just there!" Marzia pointed into the distance, the building looked kind of rickety, quite fragile. It looked like it would collapse instantly. But, who knows?

Felix's POV
Ashley was still asleep in Ian's arms, he really cared about her. As I drove closer and closer to the gas station, we were slowly but surely coming out of the forest. Now we were out in the open, surprisingly there weren't that many walkers about, we pulled up in front of the gas station, Ashley awoke to the slight jolt of the car coming to a stop, we exited the car.
"Are you okay to walk now?" Ian asked, still holding Ashley.
"Y-Yeah..I'll be alright." Ashley mumbled, Ian gently putting her down.
I opened the door very cautiously, checking for any walkers that were to pop up out of nowhere.
"It's clear guys, just keep your weapons close okay?" I informed everyone, the door creaking and scraping along the floor as I pushed it.
We all carefully walked inside, just the light from the windows making it seem less dimer than it would be. The shelves had next to nothing on them, barely enough to feed 10 people; although the shelves were completely full of medical supplies, even behind the counter.
"S-Should I get them?" Ashley whispered, looking across at the cupboard behind the counter.
"No." Ian replied instantly, "You nearly got hurt last time, and your already injured.."
Ashley nodded "Whose g-going to get it then?" She stuttered very slightly.
"I'll get them." David offered, gently hopping over the counter, Joven passed him a Messenger Bag to put the supplies in. 5 minutes later, the bag was packed and David passed it back, he was just about to climb over when moans from walkers could be heard and then out of nowhere one jumped at him. He wrestled it and tried holding it back with his arm, but the walker grabbed his arm before he could do so and bit him. He winced in pain and fumbled with his gun holster. whipping out his gun and shooting the walker in the head.
"Fuck! I got bit!" David hissed, wincing in pain.
"W-What are we gonna do?" Ashley whimpered, looking at David's severely bleeding arm.
"I might be able to help you.." A woman with a British accent spoke, we looked behind us, she had dark brown hair with hints of light brown and she had light blue eyes, which were lighter than Ian's and Ashley's, they were almost white. She was wearing a black leather jacket, black skinny jeans and black combat boots.
"Who the hell are you?" I asked, I was completely confused.
"I'm Alexia, Most call me Alex." she replied, smirking slightly. "And you guys are?"
"I'm Felix, this is Ryan, Ashley, Mari, Marzia, Mark, Joven, David, Ian and Anthony.." I pointed to them as I spoke.
"What's all that equipment you have?" Ryan inquired, staring at the technology in her hands.
"These are air sensors, immunity testers, gas masks, the basic survival gear.." Alexia explained, holding up the equipment slightly and putting her hand on her hip, "I stole it from Bandits.."
"What would you need air sensors for?" Anthony requested, scratching the back of his head.
"Well sometimes, the infection is airborne so I use these to find out if its fresh or not, then I can use my gas masks. She paused for a moment and glanced at Ashley and David. "I see you have some infectious people in your group..."
"I-I-I'm immune actually.." Ashley trembled slightly, Ian kept her close to him.
"Immune? That's impossible!" Alexia looked at Ashley like she was crazy or she was lying.
"Check her over if you don't believe her!" Ian said fiercely, looking at Alexia with anger inside him.
"Okay! Chill out!" Alexia replied with attitude, grabbing her immunity tester. She bent down to her level and hovered it over Ashley, the reading came up with immune, just as before. "That means your the only one...The only one in America..."
"T-The-- What?!" Ashley looked extremely scared, she went wide eyed and backed up a little.
"Wait.....Are you saying that America isn't the only infected place?" Mark was gob-smacked, we all were. America wasn't the only place dealing with this disease.
"Y'all don't know?" You could tell Alexia was developing America's language. "The A-Virus spread to many different countries, and by the time they realised what it was....it was too late." She sighed, her almost white eyes holding disbelief.
"The A-Virus? Is that what it's called?" Joven spoke in curiosity.
"Yep." Alexia nodded, putting her equipment away.
"Lets get the hell out of here before any other walkers show up" Ryan remarked, walking towards the door.
"I'll second that!" Alexia smirked, holstering her weapons. "Can I join you guys?"
"Uh..sure! We could use more people.." Joven grinned at Alexia, you could tell he was starting to like her.
"Thanks Joven.." She smiled and laughed slightly, leaving the shop.
We all left the gas station's shop and I filled up the tank with the remaining amount of gas.
"Hey guys... There's a bunch of space at the back." I glanced into the rear window, I saw enough room to fit at least 4 more people.
"At least now we don't have to worry about capacity problems right?" Anthony smirked slightly.
We all got into the car, me and Marzia sat in the two front seats, Ian, Ashley and Alexia sat behind us, Ryan and Mark sat behind them and Mari, Anthony, David and Joshua sat in the back. There was no more room for anyone now, just eleven of us, and soon to be less.
