Chapter 2: Making Friends

~from (y/n)'s POV~
After your advisory, you ended up in a class with people from your grade, but you didn't feel any more at ease. You'd always been bad at approaching people and making friends, and today seemed like no change to this fact. The only good thing was that you didn't have Levi giving you the death glare the entire time.
Luckily, this teacher didn't make you introduce yourself, but her announcement was almost as bad: "All right, everybody. Form groups of two or more to complete the assignment I'm passing out."
Groups?
So...how about...me...
Check...that's one person...
Great! I'm halfway there!
As for the second person...um...how about...
Me again? Is that technically double-counting?

You had a problem.
Luckily for you, two girls approached you.
"Hey, New Girl! Want to join our group?" one girl wearing weird glasses asked.
"Do you have food?" asked the other one, and the first girl lightly smacked her in the head.
"What did I tell you, Sasha? Don't take her food first thing! You'll scare her away!" The girl turned to you and smiled, extending a hand. "Hi there. I'm Hanji, and this is my friend Sasha. So, do you want to group up with us?"
"Sure," you said, trying to smile back, but your nerves were eating you alive.
Hanji seemed to be able to tell, and she patted (correction: felt like - smacked) you on the back. "Don't be nervous around us! We're chill. Right, Sasha?"
The girl looked up, half a cookie hanging out of her mouth. "Hmm? Mmhmm," she mumbled, nodding.
Hanji just rolled her eyes. "So, what's your name?"
"Umm...I'm (y/n) Ackerman," you whispered, tugging at a strand of your hair.
"OH MY GOSH like Ackerman LEVI Ackerman?" Hanji asked excitedly, causing a few heads to turn in your direction.
You winced. "Umm...well..." You remembered Levi's words. "No way. Who'd want to be related to that loser?" "Umm..."
Hanji seemed to have already decided. "Oh my gosh, I can so definitely tell! It's in, like, your nose structure and your eyes or something...Right, Sasha?"
This time, she was eating fruit snacks. "Yep."
You tried to deny it again. "Umm, well, it's really not-"
Hanji grabbed your hand. "It's so cool to meet you! I'm actually Levi's childhood friend. Wait a sec! That must make you-!" She gasped and took your face in her hands so she could look at your features more closely, which made you pretty uncomfortable. "Oh my gosh! I almost forgot! That's right! Levi said his sister is coming to stay with him! You're her, right? Levi's bio sis?"
You just kind of shrugged. "Well...I mean...umm..."
Hnaji hugged you. "Oh my gosh, you're so cute! Unlike Levi," she said, pulling back and making a sour face. "He's such a pain in the ass sometimes. I bet he gave you a hard time, right?"
You smiled at Hanji, and she gasped again.
"Honey, you need to smile more! It's so adorable! Sasha, don't you think so?"
And now it was a granola bar.

By the end of the school day, you'd somehow managed to make 2 friends (or rather, they'd made friends out of you). You said goodbye to Sasha, who waved while eating what looked like a potato as she walked away, and Hanji dragged you to the front of the school.
"I walk home with Levi," Hanji explained on the way. "'Cause my apartment is right next to his. But we have to hurry, because he hates waiting and he'll probably try to leave without us. Not if I can help it!" she said, grinning, and you couldn't help but smile back.
Levi was in the front of the building, leaning against the wall, and when he saw Hanji, he began walking towards her, but as soon as he caught sight of you, he changed directions and began quickly walking away.
"Hey, now!" Hanji yelled, and she ran after him and tackled him to the ground.
"What are you doing, damn it? Are you freaking insane?" he snapped, shoving her off of him and getting back up, ready to continue avoiding you, but then he realized how close you were and how futile it was so he just stood there instead, looking fairly pissed off.
"How could you let your sister walk home alone?" Hanji protested, standing up quickly and putting her hands on her hips.
You hugged your school bag to yourself. "It's fine. Really, Hanji..."
"No way!" Hanji pointed to you. "(Y/n) is a sweet, adorable, shy, cute high school girl that any guy would try to abduct! It's your job as her brother to look out for her!"
"Really, Hanji, it's fine-"
"Yeah? Well, she didn't have to be born!" Levi spat out, and even Hanji had no reply for that.
After a few moments, you said, "It's fine, really, Hanji. I think I'll walk home alone for today, all right? See you tomorrow!" you said, waving and walking past Levi. You were awful with directions, but you didn't want to look stupid after walking out, so you decided to pick left and hope that got you somewhere you knew.
Levi's comment didn't really hurt, but his complete rejection kind of did. You thought that he'd maybe want to know a little more about you since the two of you had been separated since childhood, but apparently not...

Smack. The outline of Hanji's hand was clearly imprinted on Levi's face.
"That was an awful thing to say, Levi. Even for you," Hanji said, glaring at him, all joviality gone for the moment. "She's your sister, Levi! Can't you at least try to play nicely?"
Levi glared back at her. "When Mom died, did she show up? No. If she wasn't going to be my sister then, then I don't need her now."
He got up and walked away, choosing the street to the right.
