Almost Easy
Dean woke up to the sound of loud guitars and drums, he looked at his watch that read 10:45am. He sat up scratching his face that had dust sticking to it. "I can not spend another second in this dusty ass attic. I need to talk to AJ immediately." he went and opened the door on the ground, then shut it quickly when he heard that somebody was there. Dean pressed his ear to the floor, trying to hear what was going on.
"Seriously, Jimmy. You have got to ask Bayley out already!" Zacky told Jimmy. "And don't say you don't know how you feel cuz I heard that song that you wrote for her."
Jimmy unblinkingly stared at Zacky with wide eyes. "You what?!"
"I heard you singing it last night."
Jimmy turned pink, crossing his arms across his chest. "How do you know it wasn't something I wrote for the band?"
Zacky pinched the bridge of his nose as he laughed. "Don't even try to convince me to believe that. You know that song isn't our style."
"Whatever." Jimmy squinted."Did you think it was good though?"
"It sounded awesome. I'm telling you, bro. Stop being a pussy and ask her out. After you do that you'll feel better."
Jimmy changed the subject, "I better get downstairs. We're leaving to the hospital in 5."
"Alright, I just need to fix my hair." Zacky said.
"Ah-choo!" Dean sneezed loudly from the dusty attic.
"Bless you." Jimmy and Zacky told each other. They turned around to face one another.
"I didn't sneeze." Jimmy told him.
"Yeah me neither." Zacky looked up at the ceiling. "Do you think somebody's in the attic? That's where it sounded like it came from."
Dean stoop up quickly, looking for somewhere to hide. There was noway that he could cover himself with anything without making it obvious that things were moved around.
"Please, don't say that." Jimmy covered his ears. "You know stuff like that freaks me out. We probably have rats again."
Zacky smacked his lips, "Don't be such a pansy." he reached for the chord hanging from the ceiling to bring the step latter down.
"Guys, hurry up!" Johnny rushed, "My moms getting ready to leave without y'all."
"Okay, Johnny. We'll be down in a sec." Zacky flicked him on the forehead. The latter continued to fall until it touched the ground. Once Zacky's foot was on the first step he felt his pants around his ankles.
"That's what happens when you mess with me!" Johnny thumped Zacky on the nose and ran downstairs before he could get caught.
Jimmy stood back laughing, "Pick your pants up Zacky. I don't wanna see your Batman undies."
Zacky frowned at Jimmy while picking up his pants, "Shuddup! That wasn't funny! Lets just go already." he fussed.
Dean let out a sigh of relief. "That was almost too close." he said to himself.
"AJ, you coming?" Kaitlyn called.
"No!" AJ responded loudly from her room. "I can't go back to that hospital. The negative energy there is so overwhelming."
"Suit yourself." Uncle Hunter shrugged, leading everybody out of the house before locking up.
AJ left her room, heading downstairs to get a snack. Dean peaked his head out and saw that the cost was clear. He jogged downstairs, finding AJ in the kitchen eating out of a bag of hot Cheetos.
"Hello." Dean spoke.
"AHHHH!" AJ jumped, hot Cheetos flying all over the kitchen, "How the fuck did you get in my house?!"
Dean slowly walked up to her, "It's kind of a funny story actually,"
AJ grabbed a large kitchen knife from the drawer, "Back up, Ambrose!" She pointed it at him.
"Whoa! Hey! Watch it with that thing! I'm not here to kill you. Jesus Christ!"
"What the hell do you want then?!"
Dean stood there, staring at the knife AJ had clutched in her hands. "Can you please put that down?" she clenched her jaw but set it down on the table. "I need to talk to you."
AJ scoffed. "There's nothing to say. Now please leave before I call the cops." she ordered, walking into the other room. Dean followed her into the living room area where she sat down. "Are you still here?"
"AJ, just hear me out. I am so sorry for what I did. Words can't even explain how sorry I am." Dean sat beside her. "I know that I broke your heart and that you might not be able to trust anybody again-"
"Whoa whoa whoa!" AJ put her hands up, "Where did that come from? Who said anything about me possibly being emotionally scared?"
"I just figured that-"
"Dean, you weren't my world. What you did made me cry cuz it upset me. But once I cried those tears I was over it. You're not worth my time. So, don't think for one second that I'm broken because of you."
Dean sat there silently. He at least thought that AJ still somewhat cared about him. Maybe just a little bit. "So you don't care about us anymore?"
"Look, the walls around my heart weren't that high. The reason for that being, I was never emotionally attached to a guy before cuz my brothers didn't allow me to date. When you tore those walls down, I fell with them but I didn't fall that far from the ground." She paused, scooting away from him. "You're just another guy that I mistook for being worth my time."
Dean let his face fall into the palm of his hands, "So I spent the night in your attic for nothing?"
AJ cocked her head at him, "That was you making all that noise up there? I thought we had rats again."
"So what am I supposed to do? Forget
about you?" AJ shrugged uncaringly. "I can't do that."
"It's not like you payed attention to any of the stuff I talked about anyways! You were probably thinking about what you and Renee were going to do behind my back!" She spat. "Stop acting like you ever cared about me cuz you didn't!"
"I listened to every word you told me because I did care. I wanted to get to know you better. I wanted to figure out why I was so in to you. And I finally figured out why." he touched AJ's hand, being surprised that she didn't pull away. "There was nothing bad that I could find wrong with you. Everything you said or did I found completely adorable. The way that you always spoke your mind and how you weren't afraid to get down and fight amazed me. I fell in love with you, AJ."
AJ let go of Dean's hand, "That didn't stop you from cheating on me."
"That was my own fault. I was stupid for doing that. If I could take that all back I would. When I was with Renee I was no where near as happy than what I was when I was with you."
AJ looked blankly at him. It was hard for her to comprehend what Dean was trying to tell her. All she heard coming out of his mouth were 'lies, lies, lies.' "Dean, I don't need to hear this. You can say all the stuff you ripped off from John Green books but I'm not falling for it."
"You hate playing guitar!" Dean randomly shouted.
"What?"
"You only play cuz you know it makes your brothers happy. The truth is that you'd rather paint a picture than write music. You say your favorite bands are Pantera and Mushroomhead but I'm the only one that knows that you are in love with Savage Garden. The only reason you lie about that is so you can feel accepted by your brothers because thats what they like and also cuz you look up to them. You prefer spearmint over peppermint. You believe Goku could kick Superman's ass, which I disagree with but still! Before you fall asleep you put your hair in pigtails. You only use black nail polish. You're team Marvel." Dean took a quick breath and continued listing things, "You're a Dean Winchester fan and ship Destiel and you believe Wincest is overrated. Um, what else?" he stammered. "Oh! You have a weird crush on Ramsay from Game Of Thrones but refuse to admit it."
"I do not have a crush on that guy!"
"Lies, I've seen the way you look at him! I can tell by just looking at you that... deep down, you know that you still like me. But you keep pushing me away cuz you're scared I'll hurt you again."
"Dean you can stop."
"No! I won't stop until I prove to you that I did care and that I never stopped caring about you. Please, AJ. I've treated you so wrong, now let me make it right."
AJ shook her head. When she blinked tears began streaming down her smooth face. "I can't Dean. I-I can't give you another chance. I won't."
"Why?" he asked, feeling his eyes getting watery. "Is it cuz your brothers won't like it? I don't care how many times they'll threaten to beat my ass or actually do it. I'll keep getting back up for you. If getting beaten is considered another way of fighting for you then so be it. They're going to have to beat me until I can't breath anymore. Those are the lengths I'll go for you AJ Lee."
"Dean, they have nothing to do with this. This is my decision. No matter how much I might still like you, it doesn't make a difference that I won't be able to love you knowing what you've done to me. Knowing that you might do it again."
Dean looked into her teary eyes, "Believe me, that won't ever happen again. I love you too much to ever let myself make the same mistakes and watch you slip through my grasp again."
"I'm sorry." she said softly.
Instead of Dean getting angry with her answer he smiled, "That's another thing I love about you. It's almost easy for you to take me back but you won't. You're strong willed and won't let these emotions you're feeling get in the way of your decision making. If you still think I don't care then I'll leave." he stood up, "But that doesn't mean I'm giving up. It means that I'm going to start fighting even harder to win you back. Nobody is going to stop me and succeed."
Before AJ could respond they heard the front door open. "We're home!" Hunter hollered.
AJ grabbed Dean's hand, running upstairs to her room. "You seriously need to leave before anybody sees you."
"What if I want them to know I'm here? Are you going to push me out the window so they won't see me?"
"Don't tempt me, Ambrose."
Dean opened her door, "Screw that, I would much rather use the front door."
AJ ran to shut her door, "Please, do not do that."
"Why not? It's not like you care what's going to happen to me if your brothers see me." AJ looked down, Dean smirked. "You can keep pretending I don't matter to you but I know I do."
The door slammed open, startling the two. "AJ, my mom ordered food from-" Johnny's jaw fell agape when he saw Dean, "What are you-!"
AJ covered her cousins mouth before he could scream, "Be quiet! This isn't what it looks like. Johnny, you have to swear to me that you can keep this a secret."
"Why should I?"
"Because she's your cousin and she loves you." Dean said.
"Shut your pie hole, Casanova. I wasn't talking to you." Johnny rudely responded.
"Well damn, fuckin savage. Your whole fam hates me."
"Johnny, I will give you whatever you want if you keep this a secret." AJ bargained.
"Hm, okay. I want $200-"
"Done!"
"And that portrait you got at comic con of Daryl Dixon."
AJ looked at her picture hanging above her bed, "Johnny, anything but that. How about I give you a couple of my comic books instead."
Johnny took a deep breath and shouted, "Syn! Zacky! Jimmy! I have something to tell you!"
"Okay fine take it!" AJ shoved the picture into his arms. "Now will you please not say anything?"
Johnny zipped his lips sealed and walked out of her room. "Never mind guys I forgot!"
"That almost got ugly." Dean chuckled, sitting on her bed. AJ turned on her heels, pointing at her window. "Alright, I'll leave." He began climbing out her window, "Oh, before I forget." Dean blew her a quick kiss. "Love you, AJ Lee." he winked.
AJ locked her window then walked into the dining area. "Okay. What do we have for lunch today?" she clapped with a smile on her face.
