Afterlife

The kids were sitting up against the wall in the hallway. Zacky called Aunt Steph and Uncle Hunter and told them what happened. They've been waiting for an hour and still no word from a doctor.

"What the hell is taking them so long?" Hunter rubbed his face roughly. "They can't just leave us worrying like this."

"God, I hope he's okay." Steph shook, pacing back and forth. The clicking her heels were making seemed to echo in everybody's ears.

"Aunt Steph, could you please stand still?" Zacky asked, getting annoyed. All he wanted to know was if Matt was going to make it so his own heart beat could go back to normal.

Syn stood up, punching the wall, leaning his forehead up against it. He couldn't even cry. His whole body felt numb just thinking about the fact that he might lose his brother.

Finally, a doctor came out of the room with sweat drops going down his face.

AJ and Jimmy stood up, rushing to the doctor, "What happened? Please just hurry and tell us."

The doctor took off his cap, "Matthew's heart was slowing down. When we made it to the room it began dropping rapidly." he paused. "We had to perform immediate chest compressions. A few times we were getting ready to call it but he kept fighting to stay alive. We eventually got his heart beating again but he fainted after he woke up."

"So Matt's awake now?!" Syn jumped.

"He will be soon. Like I said he fainted. We thought he slipped back into a coma but he was moving again."

"Oh thank goodness." Steph breathed in relief, holding her heaving chest.

"He should be waking up very soon." The doctor informed, "That boy is one hell of a fighter."

"You can say that again." AJ said.

"Feel free to go in." the doctor moved out of the way and opened the door.

Everybody went into the room. When they got closer to the hospital bed they saw Matt very slowly move his head around. He briskly started lifting his fingers up one by one from the mattress and finally his eyes fluttered open revealing his sparkling green iris'.

"He's awake." Jimmy whispered.

Matt groaned, rubbing his stitched face, "Where am I?" He asked looking a bit shaken.

Stephanie gently glided her thumb over his hand to calm him down, "You're in the hospital, sweetie."

"What happened to me?"

"You were in a car accident." Hunter informed his confused nephew.

"How do you feel?" Syn asked.

"Like I got hit by a truck." he chuckled.

AJ smiled at him, "Too soon, Matt."

"How long was I out?"

"Two whole weeks." Zacky answered.

"What?! I was in a coma for two freaking weeks?!" He shouted then held his sides, "Ohhhh god my ribs hurt so much." he groaned in pain. "And my face feels like AJ clawed it."

"Matt," Stephanie began, "Do you remember why you went out that night?"

Matt pondered for a second, "Um, I'm not sure. I know I was mad about something but it's all too fuzzy right now."

"That's okay. Just relax and don't move." Steph said.

"As if I had a choice Aunt Steph." Matt tried getting comfortable but found it difficult to move one of his legs. He looked under the blanket, "Wow, that's just perfect. I have a broken leg. Fan-Fucking-Tastic."

"Language." Uncle Hunter huffed.

"Sorry. Is my baby okay?" He asked sounding really concerned.

"Dude," Zacky shook his head, "Your truck got totaled."

"No... no this can't be happening to me. Why do I have such bad luck?"

"Get over it. You're alive aren't you." AJ said.

"When can I go back home?" Matt asked.

"Doctor hasn't said. But you have no idea how much I miss my bed." Zacky answered. "I can not sleep in this hospital room for another night or I'm gonna go crazy."

"Y'all stayed by my side the entire time I was out?"

"Of course we did." Syn informed.

"Hm, I didn't think I meant that much to you guys. What about school? You guys just took two weeks off?"

"I went for like a day." Jimmy answered. "Dean tried apologizing for-"

"Do not say that name around me." Matt raised his voice. "I hate that guy with a burning passion."

"Well if it makes you feel any better he seems super miserable."

AJ cringed at hearing his name. She was glad that Dean was a train wreck. She hated him. She wanted nothing to do with him anymore. But that didn't mean she stopped thinking about him.

-Dean's House-

Dean was lying upside down off of his bed. He groaned deeply knowing the secrets he kept blew up in his face and might never be forgiven. It sucked that he couldn't even get near AJ without her brothers swarming around her if he got within a miles distance.

It was hard for Dean to blame them though. If he had a sister he would have acted the same way. Dean couldn't forgive himself for his actions so how was AJ supposed to accept his apology? She wouldn't. She'd probably laugh in his face. Or punch his face.

Dean picked up his phone and called the one person who always helped him. "Yo, Sami. How you've been?"

"Do you really care?"

"Yeeeees...."

Sami sighed, "You obviously want something. What is it?"

"Advise." Dean said. Sami took the phone away from his ear, examining it. "Sami you still there?"

"Yeah... I was just checking if there was something wrong with my phone. It sounded like you said you needed my advise."

"I made a mistake, man. I need your help."

Sami rolled his eyes, "Yeah, Kaitlyn told me about what happened between you and AJ. And about you gettin your ass kicked... again." he laughed.

"Shuddup! It's not funny."

"I told you from the beginning that AJ wasn't the type to be played with. But did you listen? No."

"Please, Sami! I have to make things right. You don't know how miserable I am about this."

Sami really didn't want to help Dean with this. He brought this on himself and needed to deal with it on his own. "It's your fault. You just couldn't be committed to one person and be happy. Seriously, AJ's brothers finally accepted that AJ is dating you, something we never thought they'd do! And then you ruin it by cheating."

Dean knew that everything Sami said was true. Although, that wasn't going to stop him from gaining AJ's trust again. "Are you going to help or not?"

"Why should I?" Sami asked, "Like for real. Why should I help you with this? Look, Dean. You're my best friend so I can say this. The truth is that you are just a self centered asshole."

"Self centered?!" Dean yelled, "How am I self centered?"

"Great, you at least agree with the asshole part." Sami smiled to himself, "Have you asked yourself once how this effected AJ? Have you considered her being heart broken and possibly not be able to date again for a long time? You are just worried about making things right so that you feel better."

Dean shook his head, "That's not true."

"Bullshit!" Sami shouted, "Before you go trying to make things right with AJ, why don't you work on an attitude adjustment. So maybe if AJ is crazy enough to take you back she won't be stuck with a lying bastard again." He loudly advised before hanging up.

Dean exclaimed in anger, tossing his phone on the bed. He threw himself on the floor and scraped his hands through his hair. "What am I going to do?" he asked himself, rolling on his side. Dean stared under his bed and saw AJ's Hinder hoodie that she forgot the last time she went over. "Hm, I guess returning this will be an excuse to go to her house."

Dean carefully walked up to AJ's house with her hoodie thrown over his shoulder. He was looking around to make sure nobody would come out of the bushes to jump him. When he made it to the large oak door, he gulped then knocked nervously.

Kaitlyn answered the door then crossed her arms, "May I help you?"

"Is AJ here?"

"No she's not. Even if she was I wouldn't allow you to see her."

Dean rolled his eyes, "Don't tell me, you're mad about what I did to AJ too?"

She glowered at him, "Of course I am Ambrose! To think I helped her sneak out of the house to see you makes me sick! Even if AJ wasn't my cousin I'd still be pissed. What you did was a sly thing to do."

Dean looked down, "I know." he drawled, dragging AJ's hoodie off of his shoulder. "Can you give this back to AJ? She left it at my house."

Kaitlyn snatched the hoodie, "You better leave before they get back from the hospital."

"Speaking of that, how's Matt doing?" he asked, ignoring the fact that he was told to leave.

"Matt woke up a few hours ago. He'll be fine. Now like I told you before," Kaitlyn pointed to the street. "Leave."

Dean frowned dolefully, "Fine. Can you at least tell AJ I'm sorry? She blocked my number so I'm not even able to text her anymore."

"Sure. Not that it's going to make a difference on how she feels about you." Kaitlyn scoffed before shutting the door on Dean's face.

"Dammit!" he gave himself a face-palm. "That was a total bust." Dean scratched his head, getting an idea. He snuck into the backyard and climbed the wall he used to get into AJ's room. "The lengths I'll go to make this girl happy again are unbelievable."

Dean stood in AJ and Kaitlyn's room, panting for air. He heard the door downstairs open and everybody come inside. Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! I need to hide somewhere! Dean quietly made his way into the hallway, then pressed up against the wall when somebody came upstairs.

It was Kaitlyn and Zacky, "So when can he come back?"

"Doctor said tomorrow. They just want to keep him overnight. Syn stayed behind though." Zacky informed, opening the door to his room.

"Yo, I almost forgot to tell you. Ambrose came by earlier." Kaitlyn told Zacky who spun on his heels to face her. "He brought AJ's hoodie that she forgot but I think he was using this as a way to talk to her again."

Zacky shook his head, "Next time I see that guy, I swear I'm going to break both of his legs."

Dean rolled his eyes. He looked up and saw a door on the ceiling. Once Zacky and Kaitlyn went into their rooms, Dean pulled the step latter down from the attic and climbed quickly. "I can not believe I am hiding in a dusty attic." he checked his watch which read 11:00pm. "Wow, I guess I'm spending the night up here then. Thats just fucking great..."
