Chapter 1: Morality
(Day 3)
It's been three days now, and I've discovered a number of things about my new life. The first one is that I can still eat, sleep and drink, I think I even had dreams a couple times. The second one is that I have a slight weakness to the sun, as in I can feel my health and stamina drop a good bit when I'm in direct sunlight, so I'll need to be careful when I'm outside.
The other thing about my Vamprisim is that I have a constant craving for blood. I've been able to subside these cravings with animals for now, but I feel like I'll need to move onto actual people soon. Could I do that? I wonder...
Anyway, today I decided to see what the rest of this land was like, and thankfully we got a safe way to do that. I'm using a magic mirror that lets me get an birds eye view of the outside world, and I could use my hands to scroll and zoom in like I'm using a giant tablet. It was a little hard to control, but Sebas was able to teach me how.
My sights were soon set on a little village, I could see a bunch of men on horseback running amok.
Fugak: What's this? A parade or something?
Sebas: I don't believe so...
After zooming in, it was grossly apparent what was going on. It was a massacre, dozens of knights wearing blue and silver armor were mercilessly killing the men, women and children. They couldn't be bandits, they all wore identical uniforms, so it must've been an organized attack by some kingdom out there.
Sebas: Should we do something about this, my Lord?
Fugak: Hm...
To be honest, I didn't really care about what I was seeing. Even though I saw young children get dragged out their homes and had their throats slit, I felt nothing. I don't know how, but I believe that coming to this world and inhabiting this body is altering my mind.
I then noticed a man getting stabbed in the back while to younger girls ran as far as they could. As he was about to get finished off, something unexpected happened. He...looked at me, or at least knew something was watching him. Then, he mouthed something in my direction. I'm not good with reading lips, but I'm fairly certain he was begging whatever unseen force was watching him to "Protect them..." A few moments later, the two sisters were cornered by a pair of knights, the blond one receiving a large slash on her back.
Fugak: I'm going over there, time to see what these people are capable of.
Sebas: Very well, but I highly suggest you go with at least one bodyguard.
That was another small detail the NPCs have. They're constantly worrying about my safety, just being ten feet from the door makes them freak out.
Fugak: Let's see...Drevean is still around right? Have him come with me.
(Meanwhile)
The older sister could do nothing but use her body as a shield. As one of the knights raised his blade, ready to finish her off, he stopped midway once a portal opened.
Knight: A-A monster!!
The Vampire Lord stepped through with a yellow staff shaped like a dragon, now in front of the siblings.
Fugak: How amusing. You were so eager to kill two defenseless villagers, yet you're trembling at the sight of real danger!
Kight: Take...t-take this!!!
He was about to attack me, but I fired an ice spike from the staff that flew into his gut and sent him flying. The other tried to run but I had no trouble in firing another through his head.
Fugak: They can die so easily, that's disappointing... Let's see, Reanimation: Death Knight.
As I cast the spell, one of the bodies were suddenly covered in a purple slime, and it soon molded into a massive hulking skeleton warrior.
This was unusual, as in the normal game they would just appear.
Fugak: Death Knight, go attack the men with armor like this one in the village up ahead!
It immediately bolted towards the village with a terrible roar, then I heard a strange, slightly feminine.
???: My apologies for taking so long, Master!
Drevean, one of my own NPCs, stepped put from the gate with a strong aura of arrogance. He has the ability of iron manipulation, and in YGGDRASIL he was used as a stealth unit.
Fugak: It's alright, Drevean.
Drevean: Hm? What should be done with these two Humans? Shall I destroy them myself...?
Fugak: No. We're here to defend this village.
Drevean: Huh?? Well, ok then...
Despite the alteration of my mental state, the sight of that suffering woman compelled me to do something about. So I took out a little bottle with red liquid.
Fugak: That's a nasty cut, drink this before you bleed out.
She was hesitant about trusting me, not like I blame her. I just killed two men and created a monster. But despite her fear, she was willing to listen, but her little sister smacked her hand away from the healing potion.
Young Sister: Sis don't! It's blood!
Drevean: Master Fugak gives you a gift and you reject it...? How dare you?!
He was about to use his ability on them both, but thankfully I could stop him from doing so.
Fugak: Don't bother, Drevean! Listen, it's just medicine, it'll heal you.
This time she took the bottle and drank the liquid inside, and almost instantly her back and torn shirt was restored.
Fugak: See? Everything's going to be okay now. Now I'm going to drive out those other people attacking your home, take these in the meantime...
I chucked two little horns in front of the girl.
Fugak: If you blow one of the horns, a small army of goblins will appear and help you.
Old Sister: Th-Thank you! Um...may I know your name?
Fugak: Would it be okay to do that? I guess so, probably won't see her again anyway. My name is Fugak, be wise and remember that...
The two of us went on our way, now with my name known by the people of these lands.
Drevean: Master, why is it that you helped those Humans? They aren't important at all.
Fugak: Simple, in order to achieve my goals we need to make specific connections with others.
Drevean: Your goals?
Fugak: You'll find out soon enough...
I actually don't have a plan, I just didn't have anything to say. To be honest, I'm not really sure what I should do.
(Meanwhile)
In the village, Fugak's Death Knight was effortlessly taking out the soldiers, none of them could even dent it.
Nobleman Soldier: Th-This isn't real! Why won't it get damaged?!
After decapitating another man, the Death Knight set his sights on the nobleman. It knocked anyone who was in its way aside like they were nothing, horrifying the soldier even more.
Nobleman Soldier: S-S-Somebody help me! I'll...I'll pay you as much as it takes!! I'll give whoever saves me 200 gold-no! Th-Three hundred!
Soldiers:...
Nobleman Soldier: Five hundred?!! O-Ok! I'll give you ten thousand g-AHHHH!!!
It was too late, the undead creature stabbed right through the man, and began to repeat this a dozen times over, even when the man was still begging for his life.
Fugak: Death Knight! That's enough, you can stop now.
And just like that it was docile, striking even more fear into their hearts.
Fugak: Alright, I don't know who these people are but I find it quite rude that you're killing them when they have no form of defense. So I'll say this once, leave this place immediately or you'll be wishing you were dead right now!
And as you'd expect, the remaining soldiers who weren't slaughtered left as fast as they could. Despite my appearance, the villagers began to thank me.
Village Chief: You...saved us? Thank you stranger, we're forever in your debt! Please, tell us what we can do to make up for this act!
Fugak: Well...there's a few things I require.
I was able to learn a great deal of this world from the chief. The first one is that money from the game doesn't work here, so I'll have to find a way to acquire funds in a non-suspicious manner. Next, I learned of the nations of what I've decided to call The New World. This village is Carne, which on the border between the Re-Estize Kingdom and Baharuth Empire. And about those knights, the village chief said that he suspects them to be from the Slane Theocracy, disguised as Imperial soldiers in order to keep the previous kingdoms on bad terms.
Something else he said gave me some ideas, the capital of Re-Estize has something called an Adventurer's Guild, a small group of mercenaries that take on a number of missions in exchange for money, so that's a valuable piece of information for the future.
After that was finished, we were just about to leave the village right as a group of men on horseback arrived, I thought at first they were reinforcements. But a well built man a beard approached me with curious intent.
???: You, did you...save this village?
Fugak: Yes, I assume you had the same idea in mind?
Gazef: I am Gazef Stronoff, Warrior Captain of the Re-Estize Kingdom. We were sent by the King's order to stop the knights who're attacking the surrounding area.
Fugak: I see then. Well I am Fugak, you could say I'm a traveler from a faraway land.
Gazef: I've heard of Lizard Men, but not one like this. Who is this man? So you drove them off by yourself?
Fugak: Not entirely. I had this big guy do most of the work-
Soldier: Captain! We've spotted several men surrounding the village! They're approaching as we speak!!
Gazef: What?!
From a safe distance behind some trees, me and the captain were able to see numerous hooded figures and a blond man behind them.
Fugak: They don't look too friendly, got a bad aura coming off 'em.
Gazef: Looks like the Sunlight Scripture, they're a special ops force of the Slane Theocracy.
Fugak: Special ops, is there anything of value here?
Gazef: If you're asking that question, I know they're not after you. And that means...
Fugak: Seems like someone wants you out of the picture.
Gazef: I guess there's just no helping it. Hey, Fugak. I know you just helped these people, but I'd like you to do it once more. I'm going to take my men and chase them away, and it would be reassuring if you were around if something goes wrong.
Fugak: ...I promise that these people will be safe. But before you go, I have something to give you, a gift you could say.
