Thinking

Michael's POV

I shot up out of my bed, feeling cold sweat slide down my face and back. My breath came out in short intervals as I turned my head to check the time, 1 am.

"Dammit!" I exclaimed as I threw off my covers and slowly got out of the bed.

It was another one of those nights where nightmares of my past and present haunted my sleep. This was the third time I had been awakened by a dream, so knowing sleep wouldn't be much of an option at this point, I pulled the sheets off my bed and washed them. As they were washing I jumped into the shower and quickly cleaned away the remnants of my nightmare.

A walk to the park close by should be a good way to clear my head. I thought as I changed into clean clothes and put on my mask to hide most of my face.

I quickly grabbed my phone and a pair of my headphones as I exited my small apartment. With a heavy sigh, I made my way down the stairs and headed toward the park. It didn't take me long to get there. I was happy to see it was empty, but then again it was two in the morning. I headed towards the swings and sat in one on the very end. I swung back and forth not moving my feet off the ground, thinking about when everything went wrong.

~Flashback~

I had just gotten back from the doctor for a quirk checkup since I hadn't manifested mine, like everyone else in my class. However, from what the doctor said I wasn't going to have a quirk at all, I was quirkless. Truthfully, it didn't matter to me or my parents we were a happy family, and I couldn't have cared less about heroes back then.

We were on our way back home when a villain attacked. Mom had told me to run but I couldn't move. I was frozen in place seeing my parents ripped apart by the villain. As he moved toward me, my legs started to work again but went fast enough and his claw-like hand scratched my back.

"Everything is okay now!" Someone exclaimed as they pinched the villain away from me as I screamed in pain. "Why? Because I am here!"

I looked up to see the newly appointed number one hero, All Might. He had defeated the villain with one punch, but he was too late to save my parents and barely me.

"Young man are you okay?" He asked as he approached me.

I didn't reply to him, because my vision was fading in and out from blood loss. I don't remember much about what happened after he carefully picked me up.

~End Flashback~

I was pulled out of my thoughts when I felt a small body collide with my back.

"S...sorry sir," a young girl no older than 6-7 with light-blue hair said.

I smiled sweetly, showing it through my eyes, as I turned to place a hand on her head.

"It's fine," I replied, ruffling her hair, "Are you lost, sweetie?"

"Nope," she answered with a smile. "I was running from daddy."

"Oh, he might be worried if you're gone too long," I said, looking around to see if anyone else was around. "Plus, isn't it a little late for a kid to be out, let alone up?"

"Daddy will find me soon, anyway," she giggled as she sat in the swing next to me. "Daddy is always up early."

"Eri, you know I hate places like this, they're filthy and disgusting!" I heard a voice yell from where I guess the little girl came from.

"That's Daddy!" She said, practically screaming.

I chuckled as I watched her swing higher and higher on the swing.

"So, you must be Eri?" I inquired, out of curiosity.

"Yepp," she replied, as she let her swing stop.

"Well, it's nice to meet you Eri, I'm Michael," I started as I saw a man a good foot or so taller than me approaching with a medical mask on, and from what I could tell he didn't look pleased.

Kai's POV

My day wasn't going great. Eri had somehow destroyed my living room again, while I was away, and her seventh nanny had quit.

"I'm sorry, Daddy," Eri said as she hugged my leg.

I sighed, bending down to pick her up and placing her on my hip.

"Chrono," I called, turning to leave, "have this mess cleaned before we return."

"Hai, Boss!" he exclaimed as he ran off.

Eri and I first had to head to my room before we left, I needed to place my beak mask up and get my other one.

"What will I ever do with you, Eri?" I asked her as I pulled off my mask and placed my black medical mask on.

I sighed for what felt like the millionth time and picked Eri back up from my bed.

"We will be going out for a walk to calm you down," I told her as we left the compound.

I had forgotten about the disgusting park that was close to our home and how Eri has been begging me to go there. Eri took off as soon as the park was in view, and I took off chasing after her.

"Eri, you know I hate places like this, they're filthy and disgusting!" I yelled as I got closer to where I knew she might be.

When I got there, I saw someone around my age sitting on the swing next to her, and what surprised me most, was Eri was smiling and talking to this guy. As I got closer, I heard the most beautiful sound ever, the guy was chuckling at something Eri had said.

"Daddy!" Eri shouted as she jumped off her swing, running over to me. "I made a new friend!"

"I can see that," I replied as I pulled out a bottle of disinfectant and cleaned her hands.

"He wears a mask, like you," she told me, sparking my interest in him more.

"H...Hi," a shy voice said from behind Eri.

I looked up, to see the guy she was talking about standing behind her. As I was looking him over, I noticed what looked like a scar on his face that started above his eye and went under his mask.

I wonder what happened? I pondered as I blushed slightly, realizing I was just checking this guy out without knowing his name.

Michael's POV

I was fiddling with the sleeve of my shirt waiting on the guy, Eri said, was her father to answer. He seemed to be looking me over when I noticed he was looking at my face and I froze.

Please don't ask me about it. I thought as I looked away from him.

"Michael, this is Daddy," Eri said, grabbing my hand and pulling me closer to her dad.

"Ugh, Eri, I think I'm close enough," I told her, blushing slightly.

I was close enough to see his golden eyes looking into my green ones.

"Hi, Michael, I'm Kai Chisaki," he said, holding out a gloved hand for me to shake.

I moved back a little feeling a little intimidated by him. He raised an eyebrow when he noticed I had taken a step back.

"You're already scared of me and we just met?" he asked, with what I could guess was a smirk with how his eye signed with entertainment.

I flinched away feeling Kai touch my arm gently, and it felt like it was out of character for him, to be gentle like this for some reason. Eri was even strangely quiet watching us closely, and I knew that wasn't like her; she had been making noises since she ran into me.

"I'm fine," I told him, pulling my arm away. "A few cuts and scars are nothing new to me. "

"But, Mikey is bleeding," Eri said, pointing to the blood coming through the bandages. "Daddy can heal it with his quirk."

Kai looked to be smiling at her words as I took another step back.

"I...I wouldn't wanna impose or be a bother," I stated, turning the walk away but a hand grabbed my hand to stop me.

"It's no bother, I'd be helping my kid's friend," Kai responded, keeping his grip on my hand firm but not hurting me.

Why is he helping a quirkless human like me? I wondered as I turned to face him, with tears in my eyes.

Kai's POV

I couldn't help but smile at Eri as she told Michael I could heal him, but seeing him flinch and move away kinda hurt. People have always been scared by my quirk and it's never bothered me, but him being uneasy by it kinda upset me.

"I won't hurt you," I said quietly as I kept his hand in mine. "Eri seems to like you and that's rare for her."

"I...I've been told I'm great with kids," Michael replied, looking anywhere but at me, but I could see the tears in his eyes.

"Why are you so scared?" I inquired, removing one of my gloves.

"I... I've been told I'm a disgrace and a useless human by everyone, I know," He replied, turning to face me. "I'm quirkless and everyone looks down on me for it."

"You're not a disgrace or useless, I think you're beautiful and pure," I said, looking into his eyes and seeing him look at me surprised.

"N..no one's ever told me that," he stated as I noticed Eri hugging his leg.

I removed my mask and smiled at him, as I placed my hand on his arm, and used overhaul to heal him. I switched to his other arm, looking into his eyes and seeing the surprise again.

"Your quirk is so cool!" he exclaimed, looking over his arms and not seeing one cut or scar left.

I blushed slightly, placing my mack back on to hide it.

"Can we go play some more, now?" Eri asked him, hanging off his now healed arm.

"Sure, sweetie," He replied, with what I can guess was a smile.

I went to watch Michael chase Eri around from a bench and took out my cell.

Kai: Chrono, pick us up in an hour, at the park a few blocks away from the compound.

Chrono: Hai, Boss.

Kai: Also, look into someone named Michael, he's Quirkless.

I placed my phone away and watched as Michael helped Eri climb across the monkey bars. I also shivered at the thought of all the germs she was getting.

She's going to need a good bath when we get back. I thought with a smile as I heard Eri and Michael laughing.

Hour Later

Michael's POV

I hadn't had this much fun in a while, but when I saw a car with a driver pull up to the curb outside the park and Kai got up I felt my heart sink.

Dammit, I let myself get caught up in my feelings. I thought, taking Eri's outstretched hand with my own and walking over to Kai.

"You need a lift home?" Kai asked as he picked up Eri, who was now looking tired.

"Ugh, I... Sure," I said as I followed them to the car.

The guy driving the car was kinda peculiar looking, with his white arrow-like hair. I stayed close to Kai as we got closer to the car, the guy opened the door looking at me and Kai with surprise and wonder all over his face. I chuckled, guessing that Kai wasn't someone that offered rides to strangers.

"Where do you live?" Kai inquired as we got into the car.

"Just passed the big house on the left," I blurted out blushing. "In the old apartment building."

Kai looked kinda shocked at my answer and kinda disgusted, but I just brushed it off as the car took off. We were almost there when Kai spoke up again.

"I need a new caretaker for Eri, and she seems to like you," He said as the car came to a stop.

"Well, I need a new job anyway," I told him as I opened the door to get out and took out my phone. "I'll need your number, so we can work out a time for me to get there and what all I will be in charge of."

I looked to notice Kai was smiling under his mask as he typed his number into my phone. I smiled as he handed me back my phone, and headed up to my apartment to try and sleep some.

Kai's POV

"What are you so smug about?" I asked Chrono as he turned around and head back to our own home.

"Just never knew you could be happy," he replied, I could hear the mocking and smile in his voice. "Or so smooth with a guy."

"There's a lot you don't know about me," I stated as I chose to ignore him.

"Mimic is doing the background right now," he said, as I felt my phone vibrate in my vest pocket.

Unknown: Hey, Kai it's Michael. I wanna say thanks for today. It meant more to me than you know.

I smiled at the message as I pulled Eri into my arms and got out of the car.

Maybe I can make this one work. I thought as I placed Eri on the couch and went to my office.
