Sick

a/n: hi everyone just a quick note: i started a shigaraki oneshot book so if anyone here likes shigaraki, (like i do), that book will be great for you! i recently just posted a nearly 2k word oneshot so yeah...

When Overhaul started coughing, he had this sinking feeling in his stomach; a feeling that he only ever felt when he was a child. It was the same sinking feeling that had plagued him as a child when his parents were arguing in the other room, his father furious and angry at his mother. When he was little, he pretended not to be affected by the fact that his parents had obvious problems with each other. However, from the way he was today, it was quite obvious that the experience had scarred him.

Now in his adult years, he was a germaphobe that rarely had any compassion for anything other than his quirk-erasing bullets and curing illnesses. However, there was one person he cared for above everything else...

"Kai, are you sick?"

Y/N asked in a concerned tone when they saw him coughing, and Overhaul avoided their curious, yet burning gaze. He didn't want to admit the obvious truth, because he found it made him weak. How could he be curing the world of the most horrible illness, 'Hero Syndrome' when he was sick himself?

"I'm fine."

Overhaul snapped harshly, usually stoic face flushing up with anger. Y/N seemed to be taken back from the sudden burst of anger from him as they backed away, face holding nothing but sadness. He felt bad, but he cared a lot about his life goal. He was defensive at this point.

"...Fine then. I'll be leaving. Call me when you actually want me around."

Y/N said with a cold glare over their shoulder as they turned to leave his office, leaving Overhaul to sneeze loudly behind his dark medical mask and plague mask, an aching feeling in the depths of his heart. He had just hurt the person who cared the most about him.

"Sh*t..."

Overhaul said between harsh coughs, a hand coming up to tap the side of his mask in an attempt to calm himself.

Standing around and being depressed won't get anything done, might as well get back to work, he thought. The masked man walked over to his desk and sat down, picking up a fountain pen to start working on paperwork.

After a few hours of working, Overhaul started to feel his face heating up, his body getting uncomfortably hot under his black dress shirt and dress pants. He tried adjusting his gray-white necktie, hoping that somehow - somehow the sickness he knew that was inside of him would go away. It didn't help with the warmth spreading through his body at all.

He let the back of his gloved hand feel his own forehead, and he was met with a surprisingly blazing heat that he could feel through his latex gloves. Overhaul frowned, and got up, raising his voice to call for Chrono. Almost immediately, the white-raincoat wearing male rushed into the room, head tilted to the side as he assessed his boss's sweating figure.

"I'm here, Overhaul. Do you need some water?"

Chrono asked, and Overhaul nodded unwillingly, turning back to his desk to sit down. Chrono nodded and left the room, while Overhaul attempted to cool himself down by unclipping his plague mask, setting it down onto the cool wood surface of his desk. It helped him a bit, but not much.

He didn't want to take off his black medical face mask, but it looked like he might have to. Overhaul shuddered as he thought of all the air he'd be sharing with the sick people in the world. The main reason he even bothered with the masks was to prevent him from breathing the same air as the sick individuals he worked with. They served as a filter for all the disease and filth in the air he breathed.

Chrono then entered the room with a glass of crystal clear water. His fingers were careful not to touch the rim of it, because he knew that if he did, Overhaul would have a fit about the "potential germs" on his aide's hands. Besides, the loyal male had a feeling that the Shie Hassaikai leader had a cold from the way he was coughing, and the way he seemed to be sweating under his clothes. He handed the glass to Overhaul, who turned away to pull down his mask to drink it. Chrono looked away, knowing that Overhaul hated people seeing him with his mask off.

"So... Do you need some medicine or something?"

Chrono said slowly, not wanting to offend the sick male, but he think he did from the way Overhaul's yellow eyes suddenly blazed with fury and anger.

"No, I don't! I'm not sick, I can't believe you! You're just like Y/N, who kept insisting I was-"

Overhaul said angrily, breaking off to cough loudly, which Chrono sighed at.

"Listen, Overhaul. Just take it from Y/N, they care the most about you. I care about you too, but just look at the way they look at you! They love and care about you so much, it kind of makes me jealous..."

Chrono said, a blush slowly creeping onto his face, and hastily added at the furious look on Overhaul's face, remembering what happened last time he got too close to Y/N,

"B-But I don't like Y/N at all! At least not in a romantic way-"

Overhaul seemed to relax a bit at that, and Chrono let out a quiet sigh of relief.

That was close.

"Call Y/N in for me then, Chrono."

Overhaul said as he finished the glass of water, setting it down with a soft clink against the wood table. He pulled his medical mask back up. Chrono dipped his head, and walked out of the room, deciding not to say anything else extra in case if it made Overhaul angry.

After a few minutes, Chrono walked back in with Y/N at his side, who had their arms crossed over their chest. Y/N seemed a bit angry when Chrono decided to leave them alone in Overhaul's office. Overhaul was the first to speak up, his voice raspy from his cold,

"Y/N, so it turns out I'm actually sick and..."

His voice trailed off as he wrapped his head over what he was actually admitting to, and Y/N sighed, dropping their arms to their sides and walked over to Overhaul to put a hand to his forehead. Their eyes held shock at the heat, and they pursed their lips.

"Kai, I can't believe you! You need to take better care of yourself!"

Y/N grabbed Overhaul by the arm, surprising him with the strength, and decided to let them drag him out of his office, and into his bedroom. Y/N pushed Overhaul onto the bed and under the covers, ignoring his protests. They left to the bathroom, only to come back with a cool towel in one hand.

Y/N sat down on the edge of the bed, and put the cool cloth on Overhaul's forehead, taking off his medical mask in the process. They set it to the side.

"Sleep, okay? I'll be back with medicine soon."

They said, getting up and out of the room. As Overhaul lay there in bed, he wondered why Y/N cared for him so much. He was a horrible person - someone who had killed too many people to even count - yet they still stayed by his side. He closed his eyes and let himself slip into a deep sleep, comforted by the fact that there was at least one person in the world who cared about his wellbeing.
