By now, it was no secret to the world that Kai Chisaki — alias: Overhaul — was a bad man. He was a man who tortured a little girl daily just for her crimson blood — all for a dream he had dreamt of when he was a kid — when he read those scientific books, displaying the potential origins of quirks.

Ah, and Kai Chisaki himself knew that he was a bad person. He knew it very well.

He saw the way people cowered in front of him. He saw how people refused to meet his eyes — because they were cold — lifeless even, in their shaky descriptions.

But his eyes — his eyes — they held everything in them. Those golden hues — they were the core to understanding why he was the way he was.

If you looked hard enough, you could see it. The scars. The memories.

These eyes have seen so much. They've seen murder, disagreeing parents, and the dirty, disease-infested streets of the city.

He has been through so much. And it shows. It shows with the way he flinches when he hears of parents getting a divorce — and it shows when he rubs at his hive-covered arms, caused by exposure to germs.

Kai Chisaki has demons. Tons of them. They swirl around him — taunting him for what he did — for what he does to Eri.

Her blood can never be washed off his hands properly. It stains his gloves, his hands. The scarlet is always there, and he hates it.

Sometimes he wished that he hadn't gone against Pops' word. The man was someone he greatly respected, and now that man was in a coma caused by him — and the end of it wasn't clear.

...that's why he has always stopped himself from loving someone. His soul is too dark, and he doesn't want to taint them with the darkness he has come to know.

His angel — the one he loves — doesn't deserve that. They deserve someone less broken, someone less evil.

Ah, and his angel is you. He has stopped himself from showing his love for you, however.

And it stings.

You follow him around like a love-sick puppy, looking so cute — and he has to pretend he doesn't like you.

He has to pretend that he doesn't dream of you every single night. He has to pretend that you don't appear in his thoughts almost every hour of the day.

But he knows that it's for the best. He knows that he doesn't deserve you, because you deserve someone better, someone who isn't him.

Kai will just have to wallow in his sorrow, alone. But it's okay, he can deal with it.

After all, he's done it alone his whole life.
