Chapter 24: Assassins drink their coffee black
Hi. This is a short chapter because it's a simple filler chapter for what's to come in future chapters. Peter and Tony will be back in the next chapter.
-Thanks.
"Well, it certainly is good to see Spider-Man fighting crime again," Steve said as he took a sip of coffee from his mug. The news channel was featuring a story on how Spider-Man had saved a young girl from being hit by a car the night before.
Sam scoffed. "And you'd think Stark would let us back into the Tower now that the little shit is healed."
Bucky nodded and Steve rolled his eyes.
"We'll be back in no time. I'm supposed to meet Natasha later to talk about it," Steve stated.
Sam frowned. "Nat? Shouldn't you be talking to the man who owns the Tower about us coming back?"
Steve shrugged and set his mug down, his coffee now cold. "It's his decision. And he decided it would be best to talk to Natasha so that's what we're going to do."
Bucky glanced away, feelings of guilt washing over him. He was the entire reason they weren't welcome in the Tower anymore, after all.
Sam noticed his comrade spiraling and placed a comforting hand on his flesh arm. "Hey," He said, voice soft. "It's gonna be fine. This isn't your fault. This is no ones fault."
Bucky nodded grimly, his tortured mind only debating the thought. He wished things could be normal, could go back to the way things were before he reentered Steve's life. Sam has told him stories of movie nights, and sleepovers in the common room, and prank wars, and everything else that families do. But now half the family was living in a hotel while the other remained at home.
Steve glanced at his phone. "Nat wants to meet for breakfast. You guys coming or no?"
Sam didn't even have to look at Bucky to know the answer was in fact a no. "We're good. Get us home, Cap. And tell Nat to stop sucking up to Stark so much."
Steve smirked. "Trust me," He said, grabbing his coat off the back of the couch. "They were friends long before any of us happened."
And with that, the Captain left to go meet the assassin for pancakes and coffee.

Natasha Romanoff handed the waitress the menu, requesting just a simple cup of black coffee. The waitress nodded before hurrying off to complete the assassin's order.
"So," Nat started off, folding her hands in front of her. "Why are we here?"
Steve squirmed in his seat. He walked into the small breakfast bar thinking this would be a casual conversation with a good friend of his. He hadn't expected to be interrogated by Natasha as if they weren't old pals but frenemies.
"Uh, to discuss Sam, Bucky, and I coming back to the Tower?" Steve said in a questioning tone.
Nat nodded. "Of course. You can come back to the Tower under one condition," she stated. "You back off. All of you."
Steve blinked as if he'd been slapped. He sat back in his chair. "Back off?" He repeated.
The redhead pursed her lips together. "Tony is finally getting his life together after you so brutally tore it apart. He is more than he used to be," she sighed tiredly. "You know i love you, right, Steve?"
Steve cocked an eyebrow, not sure where she was going with this. "Yes?"
"Then you can understand that this is above you."
The assassin stood abruptly, pushing back from the table and slapping down a twenty dollar bill and telling Steve to treat himself.
"I'll see you, Steve," Natasha said as she waltzed out of the small restaurant.
