Chapter Fifty-Seven
Gab's PoV
Dream
I was standing in front of a huge black void in the air with a raging battle surrounding me except everything was in slow motion, and I was deaf to the sounds I should have heard. To the left of me was a black cage with a man that looked like Nico. The only way I could tell he was screaming was by the way he was shaking the bars and his open mouth as his face contorted with anguish. To my right, a boy with a mop of blonde hair, Will, was lying unconscious on the ground, and Nico was fighting like a demon to reach him. Even with everything in slow motion, I could tell he wouldn't be able to make it. I turned around, and Annie was fighting with one of Nelson's swords in one hand while dragging Nelson with the other. Bob was surrounded by monsters and was about to be overwhelmed. Damasan was on the opposite side of the battle field in a similar state of distress. I was watching a losing battle.
A silver glow shone brightly behind me, but I was the only one who could see it. I covered my eyes and turned to look at it. The glow went out, and in front of me, a young girl of about twelve years of age floated a few inches above the ground in front of the void. "What are you doing? Get away from there, or you'll get hurt!" I tried to scream to her, but my voice didn't work.
The girl smiled at me sadly. "You don't recognize me do you? You'll understand soon enough. For this to end," she gestured to the battle around us, "we have to do this. You must let us if you want your friends to survive."
"Do what? Who is 'us'? Who are you?" I tried to yell again, but my mouth wouldn't even open.
She just looked at me sadly again and disappeared.
The scene changed, and I was standing inside a large, dark, empty room with two thrones on the opposite side of two black heavy metal doors. Ari was pacing back and forth and rubbing her temples. Three people, were standing off to the side, watching her. A fourth person was acting as a doctor and giving a little girl a check up. They must have been a child of Apollo.
"I can't find anything that could be wrong!" They said exasperatedly.
"But my head still hurts a lot! It hurts even worse than before!" The girl whined.
Ari stopped pacing and looked over at the two of them. "Michael, are you sure you can't find anything wrong?"
"You've had him check five times now, Ari," one of the three people standing off to the side said. The person with the eye patch walked forward and hesitantly put their arm around her. "There's nothing we can do."
"There has to be something we can do," Ari said, shrugging their arm off her as she resumed pacing. "Why can't-"
She was interrupted by a shrill scream. Everyone spun around to see the girl's eyes roll up into her head, and she fell forward with a crash onto the ground. "Lizzy!" Ari screamed and rushed forward to check on her.
"Gab! We need to get going!"
I woke with a start. Annie was standing over me with a look of concern on her face. I looked around, and the others were staring at me from the doorway with backpacks slung across their backs. My mind flashed to the image of the battle and the girl who spoke to me. With a chill, I realized she did look familiar, but I couldn't place where I had seen her before. "You must let us do this if you want your friends to survive. Don't tell the others." Her voice. I looked around the hut, but I couldn't see her anywhere. I shook my head and sat up. I couldn't start going crazy now.
"Are you okay? You seem really out of it. What happened?" Annie asked.
"I-" I thought about the dream and the voice Í heard just now. Even if it was real and I wasn't going crazy, I thought it would be best not to tell them. I couldn't get them more scared than they already were. "I just had a bad dream. That's all."
"What was the dream about?" Nelson asked.
"Oh, nothing in particular. It was just a dream." I said nonchalantly and got up from the bed.
"Dreams aren't just dreams for a demigod. What happened?" Nico spoke up for the first time in hours.
I looked back at him, and he was squinting at me as if trying to see through me to get the information he wanted. I swallowed back a lump of fear and sadness as the image of him about to be overwhelmed with monsters flashed in my mind again. "It was nothing, Nico. I swear."
He squinted at me a while longer, but I held his gaze. Finally, he turned and started walking out of the door. "Come on, we don't have much time."
Everyone watched him leave before turning back to stare at me. I shifted uncomfortably under the gaze and picked up a backpack that was by the bed. I shouldered it and started walking out after Nico. "He's right you know. We need to get moving."
Another chapter! I hope you guys liked it. Who do you think the girl in the dream is? Who do you think she's referring to when she said "we"? Thanks again for reading guys!
