She wandered through the crowded streets of St. Gallen. Live music was blasting through the speakers so loud she thought her head would explode and the voices of everywhere present people were only adding to the loud mix of noises.
It was the time of St. Gallen Fest. The time when dark streets were filled with blinking lights of festival attractions silently calling people to spend all of their money on cheap sugar cotton or things they will never ever need. Crowds of people were trying to enjoy this kind of fun and spend their time on empty pleasures they would definitely regret the next morning. Drinks were not even a question, if you didn't have a cup of the cheapest and fakest beer in your hand you couldn't even enjoy the festival properly. At least that's what everyone thought.
She was trying to make her way through the massive crowds of people and was probably the only one who wasn't dancing, singing, eating Turkish delight and screaming at their friends to wait. She seemed to be all alone trying to get away from the loud centre of the "fun".
She finally freed herself from the consuming crowd and made her way towards what seemed to be a more empty street of the city right now.
She loudly exhaled and started to walk slowly with her head pointed down. She shivered with cold and tried to pull down the long sleeves of her brown woolly sweater. It was cold even though it wasn't winter yet. The weather was windy and unwelcoming. She couldn't understand why all these people didn't rather stay at home with a hot cup of tea. She smiled thinking about that. But her smile quickly faded away and she sniffled trying to bury deeper into her coarse sweater. She noticed small groups of people hidden in the shadows of the small street.
These people were sitting or standing, talking, drinking and usually smoking.
Whatever they were doing, she didn't want them to see her so she started to walk faster.
After a while, she found another empty street. Hoping this one would really be empty, she entered. It was a long and thin street and the buildings seemed dead and empty. Eather there were no people in them or everyone was already asleep.
No city lights as well.
She slowed down again. Putting her hands in the pockets of her grey jeans. Her head was still pointed down and there was no sign of any emotions showing on her face.
As she walked she didn't even notice three young men joining her from behind. They could be around their twenties so the same age as her. They looked like they already had a bit to drink, but not too much. One of them had a cigarette in his hand. They walked slowly behind her for a couple of minutes, but when they realized that she doesn't know about them, the one with the cigarette nodded with his bald head as a sign. Other boys also answered with a small nod. The bold one threw away his cigarette and placed his hands in his pockets. He blew a cloud of nicotine smoke out of his mouth.
"Hey, kitty." He said in a seductive voice.
She quickly turned around with a gasp three guys standing behind her definitely took her by surprise. She didn't say anything, just looked them, eyes wide.
"Don't you know you should be polite?" The guy said again with a grin on his face. The other guys just stood there, staring at her. This definitely made her uncomfortable. She just turned around and started to run away.
"Hey!" The guy screamed and all three of them started chasing after her.
She wasn't thinking about much, she just ran. She heard their voices and the sounds of them running resonated in her head sounding like the steps of a large beast chasing after its victim.
Before she knew she was running back towards the most crowded street of the city. The live music started to scream at her again and running away started to be impossible as the crowd consumed her.
She thought she might get lost in the crowd so they wouldn't catch her, but they were still running a few meters behind her.
So she started to run away again, into a different street. They still followed her. There was nobody to call for help, everyone was either too entertained to care, drunk or high.
She felt her legs giving up. She thought they started to turn into jelly heavy as platinum. She knew they are going to get her. She didn't want to know what they'd do to her, but she was probably going to find out soon. She closed her eyes hoping to disappear as she saw the bald guy coming closer and felt him catching her. He grabbed her chin and pointed her face right to his. She smelled cigarettes and alcohol. She could see the other guys getting closer. She looked into his eyes and started to tremble with fear, he looked angry.
"Didn't I tell you to be polite? Say good day sir."
She did not reply, she just moved her head trying to free out of his grip, but that only made him be harder.
"You slut!" He whispered his eyes darkening.
He was strong enough to hold her with just one hand. He moved her, that way her back was pressed against a wall.
"Didn't your parents tell you how to greet people hm?" He hissed into her face.
At that moment anger entered her mind and totally outstood the fear.
With a weird noise tearing out of her lips she made a quick move against him. He wasn't expecting that and let go of her so she had a split second to run and that's what she did. He followed her of course, shouting something about him definitely catching her and things he would do to her.
She just pressed her eyes closed breathing so heavily she thought her lungs will tear her chest apart. She felt a strong grip on her arm and a force suddenly pulled her to the side, she tried to scream, but only a gagging sound left her throat as someone's hand covered her mouth. She opened her eyes just to find herself pressed to a tall body of a man. She couldn't see that well in the dark, but she knew she was looking into his eyes, being just a few centimetres away from his face. He was looking deeply into her eyes. She understood. She should be quiet. He held her strongly and close to his body, she couldn't even move. She heard someone running on the street right next to her, then the sound slowly faded away. They were gone.
He removed his hand from her mouth. She slowly exhaled and looked around.
They were stuffed in a door crook in one of the houses. She was surprised the guys didn't see them there. She looked back at the man who probably saved her.
He was still looking directly into her eyes, she almost couldn't hear his breathing, his lips were pressed into a tiny line, his eyes were sparkling even in the dark and his mid-long dark curly hair was moving in the cold wind.
His voice was deep and raspy, toned with a British accent as he said:
"Wanna get the fuck outta here?"
