Chapter 18

"And you're going?" Sarah asked.

I nodded my head. "I think I need to be open with him," I told her. "He's allowing me to see the Liam I've never seen before. Why shouldn't I?"

Sarah smiled. "I would never imagine you and Liam as a couple of months ago," she said.

And she was right. I would have never imagined it either. I never expected things to change this year, either.

But they did. Whether it was for the better or worse. I had to see what will happen.

"I know. I wouldn't have either," I said, playing with my fingers. "I don't even know how it happened," I sighed. She giggled. "Yet it did,"

"What you girls talking bout?" Skyler asked, taking a seat across from us at the cafeteria table.

"Nothing really," I said.

"Nothing for us, everything for her," Sarah said with a grin. I immediately glared at her.

"Ooo do tell," Skyler said, leaning forward, resting her head against her arm. "She's going on a date!" Sarah exclaimed loudly.

"Shhh," I put my index finger on my lips, gesturing her to be quiet. "The whole school doesn't need to know that,"

"No way, Storm!! I am sooo happy for you. Who are you going with?"

I hesitated a moment to tell her. I knew Skyler didn't get along with anyone from that group. She always told me how much she wanted to punch each of them in the mouth any chance she gets.

"I-well... Liam and I-"

"Miller!" Liam shouted as he made his way to our table with both Luke and Isaac by his side. I can see the annoyed look on Skyler's face as they approached.

I looked over at Sarah, who looked more nervous than anything as they took a seat. Liam beside me, Luke next to Sarah and Isaac next to Sky.

Liam slipped his hand under the table, placing his hand on my thighs and a breath caught in my throat. He leaned in closer and whispered into my ear. "I've been thinking about you all day," before retrieving his hand back.

"So for our date, Are you excited?" He asked, leaning his head back.

"You're going on a date with him?!!" Skyler asked, her mouth wide open.

"Well- I,"

"What's wrong with that? You and I also went on a date yesterday," Isaac beside her said with a grin.

Skyler turned her head to look at him for a few seconds before she elbowed him right in his stomach. He yelped in pain, but she only ignored him.

"But are you serious?" She implored.

"It's not a big deal, Sky," I told her.

Liam's hand went back under and onto my thighs. He squeezed it softly.

"Not a big deal?? You're going on a date with a literal psychopath," she said.

Isaac's jaw clenched. "Talk about him like that again," he defended Liam.

"Or what?" She asked, crossing her arm and scowling at him.

I can see the anger boiling into Isaac.

"I won't hold back, Davis," he told her. His hand is forming a fist. I was afraid of what he was capable of doing, and in the way, Sky spoke to him only made me nervous for her.

"I'm waiting, Brown," she challenged him with her daring eyes.

"Leave it," Liam said. "I don't care what she says," he looked at me. "It doesn't matter,"

I was not able to meet his eyes. I could already feel the butterflies emerging in my stomach. I quickly tried to ignore it by looking over at Sarah.

She seemed uncomfortable sitting next to Luke. And avoided even making eye contact with him.

I opened my mouth to ask her if she was okay, but Sky beat me to it.

"Are you okay, Sarah?" She asked her. She nodded her head, assuring us that it was fine.

Luke did not take his gaze away from her. He watched her so intensely, and I didn't know what he was thinking about.

"I'll chop all your fingers off if you touch my fries again," Sky yelled at Isaac again. Isaac completely dismisses her, took the fries and placed them right into his mouth with a wink.

I can already see the fire coming out of Skyler's ears. She looked furious. "I'm going to kill you!" She screamed at him. Isaac only chuckled at her. "What are you going to do, midget? Punch me in my stomach again?"

There it was. Midget.

Sky got up from the table, slowly her face hot from rage. I got up with her.

"Sky..." I whispered. But she didn't hear me. She took a nearby student's boll of steamy hot soup and dumped it right into his lap.

"FUCK!" Isaac yelled. The soup is burning him. "YOU FUCKIN BITCHH," he screamed again.

Liam and Luke both rushed to his side. They looked like they were ready to punch Sky. I immediately rushed to her side with Sarah beside us.

"Why would you do that?" Sarah whispered to her.

"He deserved it," was all she said.

-
"How's Isaac?" I asked Liam.

"Better," he said bluntly.

Liam was driving me home from school. I had planned on going with Sarah, who usually drove me home as my car was still getting fixed.

But Liam had texted me right before school ended that he would take me home. I wanted to refuse and tell him that it was okay, but he was not the type to take no for an answer.

"I'm really sorry for Sky. She acted on impulse," I apologized.

"She did that for fries," he said, rolling his eyes.

I could tell by the tone of his voice he was annoyed. He was not happy with what Sky did, and it was apparent.

"I know Sky can be a bit at times, but she didn't mean it,"

"I honestly don't care about her," he said. "I wanna focus on our date," he said, placing his hand on my thighs. The excitement in my stomach started up all over again.

The more time I spent next to him, it made me excited and scared at the same time, and I knew going on this date with him would be good for us. But somewhere inside me screamed to cancel it and tell him no.

But I wanted to go out with him. I really did, but I don't know what it was. I couldn't seem to be able to shake the fear out of me.

The only thing I could think of doing now is to ignore it and smile at him.

"Me too," I said.

"I want you to be ready by 7. I'll come to pick you up," he said. I nodded my head.

"Where are we going?" I asked, curious to know. I had to learn where we were going to know how to dress also. I definitely didn't want to show up overdressed or underdressed for it.

"You'll find out," he said, looking back at me and grinned.

"Come on! At least tell me how I should dress," I questioned.

"Wear anything you want. I just want you to be comfortable," he smiled.

"But-"

"We're here," he said, pulling into my driveway. I sighed and grabbed my back and opened the door, but before I had the chance to exit the car, Liam grabbed hold of my elbow, stopping me from getting out.

I turned to look at him, and he left a quick peck on my lips, catching me completely off guard.

"7," he informed again. I smiled, nodding my head, and got out.

I made my way inside and greeted my mom that sat at the kitchen table, doing some paperwork.

"Hi, mom,"

"Hi, sweety. How was school?" she asked.

"It was good," I said.  "I'm going out later tonight, though," I mentioned to her.

she nodded. "I'll be working a late shift again tonight, but your dad should be back before you leave," she said.

"Okay. I'm going to go take a shower," I said, turning to go upstairs.

"Oh, Storm," she called. I stopped to look at her. "I forgot to mention, but Cas is up in your room," she said.

"Really?" I said, heading my way upstairs to my room.

"Hey, Sun," he said as I walked into my room. He was lying in my bed on his phone.

I wanted to yell at him. He hadn't even properly talked to me ever since the incident at the fight club. He barely told me anything that night, and  I was still angry.

I threw my school bag at him, and he jolted up my bed with a shriek.

"Oh, my gosh, is this your way of greeting me?" he asked.

"Well, if you hadn't lied to me for so long, maybe it would have been different," I said, crossing my arm.

He sighed. "Listen, Storm, I never meant too,"

"Oh, really?" I said, sarcasm vivid in my voice.

"You need to let me explain," he said.

"About what, Cas? I already know everything about your father's fight club. I want to know why you and Ty hid it for me?" I asked.

"I couldn't tell you anything. We swore we wouldn't get you involved,"

"Why? When did you want me to find out after you all died as Noah did? I already lost him, Cas. I don't wanna lose any of you either," I told him.

"I wanted to tell you everything from the beginning, but I moved away, and I never got the chance to see you again,"

"That's not an excuse," I said, walking away from him.

"Look, Storm. This is not something I'm proud of, but it's something I'm part of, and if we got you involved, it's a dangerous game that I will never play," he said, coming to stand in front of me.

"I don't understand why? I'm capable of taking care of myself,"

"Not with this! I'm not even capable," he told me. There was something in the way he said that made me question whether Cassian was hiding something more significant than this fight club.

"Don't ask me why I lied because the only reason why we all did was to protect you from that club. And I never want to see you back there again," he warned.

Whether it was his warning or the fear I saw in his own eyes, I didn't argue back. And simply only agreed.
