Chapter One - Reunited
Outlet
By Kaede_Kustard
Nine months, seventeen days, and 11 hours ago my sister went missing. She vanished, no trace of her was left behind. She just- just disappeared... And now, there she stands in her blue hoodie and a red scarf wrapped around her neck.
"M-Madison...?" I gasp, reaching out to touch her, to make sure I'm not just imagining it. She's standing there, cold and wet, mud plastered against her clothes. I poke her cheek. It's wet and squishy. I pat her head. It's gross and muddy. "Is this real?" I ask myself aloud, shock overwhelming me. My eyes fill with tears.
I feel the air rushing past me as I fall to my knees to match heights with the girl in front of me. I cup her face in my hands and cry loudly. She was a sight for sore eyes, although covered in dirt and soaking wet.
"You've been gone for nine months, but you're still as beautiful as ever!" I exclaim through my tears. I pull her into my arms ignoring the fact mud is slicked down my arms due to the embrace.
"R-Rachel..." She whispers in my ear. I sob even louder at the sound of my sweet little sister's voice. "Don't cry... I'm okay now." She states, an almost soft grin on her face.. I look up deep into her sea-colored eyes. They had always stood out against her pale rose-colored hair, although her locks were dripping with rainwater.
"Come in?" I offer. She nods and I grab her hand, leading her into my house. I owned it because our parents had passed away when I was seventeen, Madison being eight at the time. The jury decided I was old enough to take Madison into my own care since we had no immediate family left. Not even two years later, Madison went missing and I went mad.
"Rachel?" Madison asks me, pulling me out of my trance. "I'm thirsty."
"Of course! Wait right here!" Though I didn't want to leave her alone I rushed to pour her a glass of water and grabbed her a pack of ham from the fridge. "Here. Eat this too. You look thin." I couldn't help but let my motherly instincts kick in.
"Thank you Rachi." She whispers. I tear up at the sound of her using the nickname she gave me many years ago.
A feeling of bubbling rage rises in me, and I struggle to push it down. "You're welcome, Maddi." I call her Maddi, her childhood nickname. However, the feeling of serenity doesn't last long.
