Chapter Twenty
*George's PoV*
"Witness George Harrison is called to the courtroom."
I raised my head.
I stood up quietly and walked into the room's direction, completely nervous. Shaking a bit, but I told myself to calm down and be strong. Before opening the door, I looked at John - he smiled at me, probably wanting to reassure me, but nothing could stop my fear.
I entered the courtroom, head held high, and stood in the witnesses' place. Everyone watched me vigilantly. Breathe, Harrison. Breathe. The trial was in open court and in attendance I saw a crowd of fans, some of them even having transparents. This views cheered me up a bit. I felt better. Stronger. Quiet, unbreakable, honest Harrison. Well, maybe not exactly honest, but I had to give this impression.
And then a cannonade of questions begun. With a straight face I answered all of them, about me, about The Beatles, about Ringo, when suddenly this came up:
"What is your relationship with Richard Starkey?"
So much for a strong, unbreakable Harrison. I panicked. What should I say? What if they knew? What if they were gonna arrest me as well and I couldn't say anything to defend myself? Pete probably told them everything.
"We're friends, bandmates." Oh God, I hoped it sounded convincingly. My face didn't show any emotion, I seemed so calm, but inside I was paralyzed with fear.
A few questions later they finally let me sit. I swallowed nervously. It's over... for now.
"Witness Paul McCartney is called to the courtroom."
Nothing.
"Paul McCartney?"
Silence. I stood up.
"I'm afraid Paul McCartney won't show up today."
"What has happened?"
"I-I'm not sure, but better not to waste time on waiting for him..."
"Well, if then..."
