Chapter 7

Colt abruptly stomped a foot on the ground. Hands clutching the handlebars, heart pounding, gasping.

"Is everything fine ?" he asked.

No answer. 'I didn't hit them anyway, didn't I ?' panicked the redhead, finally turning his head where he had vaguely seen a red and green figure before narrowly avoiding an accident.
However, where he had thought he saw someone, there was nothing and no one to be found.

'But I did see something' persisted Colt. 'I even heard a scream ! I remember it so well that I can even tell that it sounded like a tire screeching...'

And yet nothing...

"I may have braked so hard that heard my own tire screeching ?" eventually concluded Colt who remained doubtful all the same.

Slowly, he finally returned home.
When he had finished parking his Vespa and as he stood up at the front door of his house, he knocked 3 short knocks and waited before knocking a final one.
Silence.

"A new code to warn that it's you ?" a female voice he was beginning to know really well asked ironically.
"Indeed. If the last blow does not come it is that I am followed therefore, you must hide." answered Colt while entering with a large smile on his face.

A good smell emanated from the kitchen, Colt could not help but lick his lips while depositing his keys and taking off his shoes.

"Chicken curry, eso te conviene ? I'm sick of eating shit when I'm on the run."
"Y-yeah...! Damn, last time I smelled something that good, it was a looong time ago !"

The criminal smiled when she saw the redhead with this childish face while the two surprising roommates sat around the kitchen table.
Colt's eyes were wide open in front of the plates where the amber color of the curry contrasted with the white of the rice.

"The chicken may be a little dry, I think I didn't put enough sauce..."
"Sincerely ? I don't care, I'm starving and it smells good as heck !" replied Colt enthusiastically as he dived into a piece of meat.

Shelly smiled once again. The apprentice cop didn't saw it and the bandit would have denied it to the grave, but her cheeks were slightly rosy due to Colt's attitude which she considered to be the most beautiful of compliments.

Lunch finished, Colt cleared the table while Shelly went to collapse on the seat.

"You want something ?" asked the apprentice cop, grabbing an apple from a fruit bowl.
"Nah, not a fan of dessert."

The redhead bit into his apple, looking at the bandit out of the corner of his eye.
'We've just shattered our sympathy record, it's been more than ten minutes since we've said nastiness to each other' he remarked to himself.

"Is your ankle better ?"
"Can you stop asking questions ?"
"Well, here we go again," Colt sighed, rolling his eyes.
"What was that, wimp ?"
"Nothing..."

He took his phone out of his jean's back pocket to check the time. He still had a good half hour before he had to leave back to his job but the company of the bandit  wasn't really making him want to stay.

"Good. Thanks for the meal... I'll go. I'll be back at the same time as yesterday."

Colt took his keys and put his boots back on before opening the door.

"From the back, this jacket makes you look like a kid, you should wear something more serious, bitch."
"Maybe, but I like this jacket and you're not going to make me change my mind."

And, on that last rather nasty exchange, Colt went out and got on his vespa.
As he started the engine, the redhead sighed. 'Why does she have to be so disagreeable ? She's pretty hot when she smiles' thought the policeman before shaking his head hard to get that idea out of his head.

Leaving his street, Colt absolutely had no idea that someone had, from the top of a nearby building, observed his every move.
Abandoning the policeman's gaze, this shadow turned towards the house of the
apprentice cop. A smile tugged the stranger's lips when he recognized a black ponytail through the window of the living room.
