Chapter 3
Dear diary,
Today was the third day of school...
I walked into school, I probably look like I was dead on my feet but I didn't really care. After I got over the fact that my parents had abandoned me to go on holiday to god knows where, I began working on my new assignment that the teacher thought was okay to assign on the second day of school... until two in the morning.
I don't have Literary Studies today so I don't have to deal with the teacher asking how we're working together. I'm definitely thankful for that.
The school was bustling this morning, talking about something big I assume.
"I heard Jordan lost a tooth."
"I hope Connor gets expelled this time."
"I heard Connor got off free."
I brush off the nearby conversations and put my headphones in. I mentally remember what subjects I have today and decide that I'd rather not attend. And since my parents aren't home they can't do anything about it. I walk around the back of the school and on the way I notice the principal, I take out my headphones so I could hear what he was talking about.
"Have you seen Connor Murphy?" the principal asks a student.
"He's probably out back smoking pot." The student replies, snickering with their friends.
Once I hear that, I decide to speed up so the principal doesn't catch me skipping school. As I turn around the back of the gym to use the back gate as an exit, I see Connor with a blunt to his lips.
"Hey." I say as I walk up to him.
"What?" he growls.
"The principal is looking for you and a student tipped him off so he's coming back here," I say quickly, "you can come smoke at my place, I'm home alone."
Connor looks up at me suspiciously, "why the hell should I trust you?"
When he hears the principal's voice calling out his name he looks slightly startled.
"Fine." He grumbles and stands up.
He follows me as I quickly exit the school grounds.
"Could you put that out until we're at my place?" I say as I keep walking to my house.
Connor pauses for a moment to put it out before shoving it into his pocket and continuing. Neither of us talks as we walk, but the silence wasn't that uncomfortable. When I glance at Connor, I notice him staring at my arm. I look down to see my sleeve riding up. I let out a quiet panicked noise before sliding my sleeve down to cover my arm and hand.
~~~
After a completely silent walk we arrive at my house. We enter the house and lead him into my room.
"Okay, you can smoke in here." I tell him as I lay on my bed.
Connor awkwardly stands in my room, an angry frown on his face.
"Alright grumpy pants," I sigh, "you can sit down on the bed."
With an almost silent grumble Connor sits down. I sit up from my splayed out position and walk over to my computer. I log in and begin to work.
~~~
"So why did you help me?" Connor eventually speaks up
"Because you can see me" I simply reply.
"What's that supposed to mean?" He scoffs.
I let out a sigh and turn from my computer to face Connor.
"My entire life I have had so much difficulty to be seen," I start sadly, "it would take me saying something, or sometimes even yelling or if someone accidentally bumps me, but for some reason you can easily detect me."
Connor nods and looks down at his finished blunt. He looks around for somewhere to put the butt.
"Just put it in the pot" I say and point at the plant pot with nothing but dirt in it.
Connor leans over and tosses it into the pot.
"So... what's the assignment we're supposed to be doing?"
...and it was interesting.
