Chapter 10

Dear diary,

Today is the 11th day of my suspension...

I'm awoken by someone slamming on the door. If they had hit it any harder they would have for sure broken it. I let out a tired grunt as I pull my head off of my now limp arms. I grab my phone and look at the screen which read 6:47am. I sigh as get to my feet and drag myself to the front door.

When I open the door I come face to face (more like chest to face) with your tall cousin Lucas. You look up at his face, his green eyes sparkle happily and a grin was spread across his face.

"Hi (Y/n)!" he greets excitedly.

"Hi Lucas." You reply with a little less enthusiasm.

You glance past him to see your grimy uncle standing halfway down the path.

"He'll be here until Sunday!" he calls and turns around.

I click my tongue in annoyance before stepping aside, allowing Lucas into the house. We both walk into the lounge, Lucas talking the entire time.

"So, why aren't you at school?" Lucas asks as he sits his bag down by the couch.

"Got into a fight and got suspended for two weeks." I reply blandly, flopping onto the couch.

"Really?!" he exclaims.

Of course he would be excited; when I was younger I was always so timid. The only reasons other kids wouldn't bully me was either because they couldn't see me or because Lucas was my cousin. And despite the fact that he was annoying and a bit of an idiot, he did protect me, so I was grateful and that was why I had agreed for him to stay.

"So, why are you stuck coming here?" I ask, "Couldn't you stay at home?"

When I don't get a reply from the boy, I look up to see he had an upset look on his face.

"My parents are getting a divorce," he begins; his voice had lost its usual cheer, "they said I'd get in the way so I'm staying here."

I frown when I hear the reason he was here.

"Geez Lucas," I begin sympathetically, "I'm sorry to hear that."

The room falls into a silence; I frown and look down at my hands, which were sitting comfortably on my lap.

"It's okay," Lucas speaks up eventually, his voice beginning to cheer up, "it's not your fault. Now, can we go get something to eat?"

I laugh at his last question as I nod.

"Sure what would you like?" I ask him.

"Can you make the sundae that we used to eat when we went on holidays?" he asks.

I get up onto my feet and grin, nodding.

"Sure thing sounds good," I say and begin to walk out of the lounge, "let's get to the kitchen!"

Lucas let's out on 'oh yeah!' and loops an arm around my neck. Maybe hanging out with him won't be so bad.

I finish putting the last of the chocolate syrup onto the two sundaes before sliding one towards Lucas.

"There." I smile.

"Thanks!" he grins and begins to chow down.

I sit down the chocolate syrup on the counter and take a seat across from Lucas, also eating my sundae. There isn't much talking as you eat.

"Man, I really don't want to go back to school." I sigh.

"You're telling me," Lucas sighs, "I was told by dad that I'd have to start at your school."

"Oh, really?" I nod.

"Yeah, dad has already signed me up," Lucas explains, "he said to just begin when you do."

"Okay, well I start soon." I tell him.

Lucas just nods as he eats another spoonful of ice-cream.

Once we finish eating out sundaes, we decide to watch a movie. Lucas decides Alien vs Predator.

I lay on one side of the couch while Lucas lies on the other. I press play and lay your hear on the side of the couch. It wasn't long before I fell asleep.

...and I think I'll be alright.
