The Avatar Returns
Sokka and I ran back to the village and see everyone standing outside the village.
"Gran Gran!" I yell as we approach everyone. "Did you see it? Did you see the flat?" She nods her head at me and looks back at the distance. I turn my head to see what she was looking at and that's when I saw Aang and Katara. I look back at Sokka but all I see is rage inside him. Once they have gotten closer to the village, all the children came running to give Aang a hug. But then Sokka pushes me aside and starts yelling at him.
"I knew it! You signaled the fire Navy with that flare! You're leading them straight to us, aren't you?" I put my hand on Sokka's shoulder to try and calm him down.
"Aang didn't do anything. It was an accident." Katara says to stand up for Aang.
"Yeah, we were on the ship and there was this booby trap and, well, we boobied right into it."
"Katara," Gran Gran says out of the crowd. "You shouldn't have gone on that ship. Now we all be in danger."
"Don't blame Katara! I brought her there. It's my fault."
"A-ha!" Sokka yells as he shoves my hand from his shoulder. "The traitor confesses! Warriors, away from the enemy! The foreigner is banished from our village."
"Sokka, you're making a mistake!" Katara yells.
"No, I'm keeping my promise to dad. I'm protecting you from threats like him." I stepped out in front on him.
"Sokka, he's not a threat! He made a mistake and Katara says he can be trusted. And I trust Katara's judgement."
"Aang is not our enemy!" I stepped back from him and turned my attention back to Katara. "Don't you see? Aang s brought us something we haven't had in a long time...fun."
"Fun? We can't fight fire benders with fun!"
"You should try it sometime." Aang says. Not the best choice of words.
"Get our of our village now!"
"Grandmother, please, don't let Sokka do this." She begged.
"Katara, you knew going on that ship was forbidden. Sokka is right. I think it's best if the Airbender leaves."
"Fine, then I'm banished, too! Come on Aang, let's go."
"Katara, don't leave!" I yelled to her. "Where do you think you're going?"
"To find a waterbender. Aang is taking me to the North Pole."
"I am? Great!"
"Katara," Sokka yells. "Would you really chose him over your tribe, your own family?" She paused in her steps. Aang walks past Her and has a small conversation. He, then, airbends his way on top of Appa.
"It was nice meeting everyone."
"Let's see your bison fly now, air boy." I elbowed Sokka in the ribs. "Owe!"
"Come on, Appa. You can do it! Yip yip!" The bison slowly stood up.
"Yeah, I thought so!" And then, Aang and his bison walked away. I slowly walked up to Katara.
"Katara, I'm sure that you'll feel better after-" she the quickly turns to face me with an angry look on her face.
"You happy now? There goes my one chance of becoming a waterbender!" She then walks away, leaving me behind. Sokka then walks up to me.
"This was the right choice. He was bad news." I frowned at him.
"I can't help but feel otherwise." He sighs and looks at the distance.
"Come on, the fire nation is coming. Let's suit up." We both walk back to the village and I quickly got together my throwing knives and pulled my hair back revealing my burnt scar on the back of my neck. I stood up quickly and made my way out. I saw everyone around the fire and Sokka was on top of the wall. Then out of nowhere, the ground started shaking. Sokka's watchtower fell to the ground and huge cracks began to form in the floor. I saw A child sitting on the floor about to fall into the crack but I quickly grabbed her before hand. I sat the child down by a tent and looked back at Sokka. A fire nation boat starts coming closer and closer at him.
"Sokka! Get out of the way!" I yell at him but he didn't move. The boat came inches to him until the wall had finally collapsed bringing Sokka with it. Steam shot out of the boat and we all took a deep breath in. Suddenly, the latch opened and almost fell on top of Sokka. Everyone was scared and frightened as seven fire nation soldiers started walking out of the boat. All of them had skull masks except for the one in front who had a huge scar on his left eye, similar to the one on the back of my neck.
Sokka runs after the young fire nation soldier but the soldiers kicks Sokka out of the way and continues to approach the village. I stand close to Katara to try and protect her from the young soldier.
"Where are you hiding him." He asks but none of us answers. He looks around and sees all of our terrified faces. He then reached his arm out and quickly grabs Gran Gran from the crowd. "He'd be about this age, master of all elements?" No one respond so he released her. He then threw a flame at the crowd to scare them but I quickly directed the flame away from the village with my firebending.
"Leave them alone." I say. He gives me a cold look and takes a step towards me.
"What is a fire nation girl like you, doing in a place like this?" She grabs my water tribe clothes and pulled me closer. He stares at my eyes for a few seconds. "You're coming with me." He throws me to one of his soldiers and they but cuffs behind my back so I could use my fire bending.
"Ahh!" I see Sokka running at the young Soldier and swings but the soldier ducks and Sokka falls onto the ground. He fires flames at him but Sokka quickly moves out of the way and throws he boomerang. But unfortunately, he missed again. A young boy then throws Sokka's spear to him and starts charging at him. The young soldier then brakes Sokka's spear in half and hits Sokka with the stick. The solider looks down at Sokka but suddenly, the boomerang came back and hit him in the head. I guess Sokka didn't miss after all. I couldn't help but start giggling to myself.
The soldier looks back at me and gave me a angry look. I quickly stopped until he turned back at Sokka. He started forming flames from his fist looking back down at Sokka. Before he could do anything, Aang slid down on a penguin and knocked the young soldier off his feet and landed onto the ground. The children cheered for Aang as he stepped off the penguin.
"Hi, Katara. Hi, Sokka. Hi, Aya." I gave him a smile and a nod.
"Hey, Aang. Thanks for coming." Sokka says in a sad tone. The young soldier stood up and faced Aang. The other soldier started surrounding Aang as he was prepared to fight. Aang then uses his air bending to cover the soldiers in snow.
"Looking for me?"
"You're the Airbender? You're the Avatar?" I look at Aang with disbelief. He's the Avatar?! "I spent years preparing for this encounter, training, meditating. You're just a child."
"Well, you're just a teenager." I started giggling again until the soldier kicked my right leg. The young soldier started firing flames at Aang but he uses his rod to blow the flames out. Suddenly, Aang stops. "If I go with you, will you promise to leave everyone alone?" He pauses and nods his head. The solders then grab Aang and start taking him away.
"No, Aang, don't do this!" Katara yells.
"Don't worry, Katara. I'll be okay. Take care if Appa for me until I get back."
"Sir, what do we do with her?" The soldier says behind me. The young soldier stopped and looked at me.
"Take her as well. She doesn't belong here." He then continued walking up the ramp and the soldier behind me started shoving me up the ramp. "Head a course to the fire nation! I'm going home."
"No, you can't take her!" I look back at Katara and Sokka.
"I'll be okay, guys. Just don't do anything stupid when I'm gone." I gave them a smile and continued walking inside the Fire nation boat. Steam, once again, came out from the boat and the ramp started closing. Will this be the last time I'll get to see them?
The guards let Aang and I up to the top deck. The boat starts to move and before we knew it, the village was nowhere in sight. The young soldier takes Aang's staff and holds it up.
"This staff will make an excellent gift for my father. I suppose you wouldn't know of fathers, being raised by monks." He spoke in a quiet rough voice. "Take the avatar to the prison hold and take this to my quarters." He passes the staff over to an older man. "As for you." He turns to me and grabs my right arm. "You're coming with me." He drags me inside the ship and leads me into a room. The walls were made out of steel and were covered in fire nation flags. There was two chairs facing each other and a table between them. "Take a seat." He pulls out a chair for me.
"Such a gentleman." I say sarcastically as I take a seat. He pushed me in aggressively and takes a seat across from me.
"How did the avatar and you end up at that water tribe?"
"I live there."
"You're not apart of the water tribe. I can tell just by looking at you. Amber eyes, pale skin." I look down knowing that he's right. I don't belong there. "Not to mention you're a fire bender. I'm guessing that you're self taught, am I right?" I just looked at him with a blank expression. "Let me ask again. How did you and the avatar end up there?"
"I've been there since I was six. My parents fled from the fire nation and left me at that village."
"Why did they leave you there?"
"Because the fire nation killed them." There was a long pause between us. We just stared at each other.
"I'm sorry to hear that." I rolled my eyes.
"You don't have to pretend. I know I'm not hear to share my life story." I look back at him and see that he had a bit of sadness in his eyes but was trying so desperately to hide it. Before he could respond, a guard rushed into the room.
"Prince Zuko, the Avatar escaped. We think he's looking for his staff." Zuko stands up quickly.
"Dont let her get away." He rushes out the room and the soldiers grabbed me again and we start approaching a room. I've got to help Aang. Before he could open the room, I kicked him in the leg and quickly ran off to go find Aang. I ran outside and started looking around for him. Then I look up and I see Aang on his glider. A smile grew on my face but quickly disappeared once I saw Zuko jumped off the railing of the second floor and grab onto Aangs leg. They both fell onto the ground and I quickly rushed over to Aang. Zuko stands up and we both get into fighting positions. Well, mostly Aang and Zuko. I still had my hands tied up. All of the sudden, we hear this huge growl. I look behind and see Appa flying. My jaw dropped. I didn't think something that big could fly.
"What is that?" Zuko says in shock.
"Appa!" Aang yells but then Zuko starts attacking him. Aang spins around his staff to blow out the flames but there were so many flames that he loses his staff. I quickly try free myself by heating up my hands to set the thread on fire. Once I did, it was too late. Zuko had fired one last flame sending Aang off the boat and into the water. A few moments after, Aang rises out of the water with his eyes and tattoos glowing white. It was truly breath taking. He was controlling the water all around him and landed onto the boats surface again. He waved his hands around, guiding the ocean waters and knocked everyone off the boat except for me. Aang stopped glowing and started to fall but I quickly caught him. Appa had landed on the boat and Katara and Sokka quickly rushed over.
"Aang! Are you okay?" Katara yells as he quickly rushed over. Aang opens his eyes and spoke very softly and weak.
"Hey, Katara. Hey Aya, Hey Sokka. Thanks for coming."
"Well, I couldn't let you have all the glory." Sokka says with a smile.
"I dropped my staff." Sokka quickly got up and I handed Aang to Katara.
"Got it." Sokka rushed over and me and Katara helped Aang stand up. We helped him walk over to Appa and I look over at Sokka. "Ha! That's from the water tribe!" I smiled to myself and started to get on the fluffy flying beast. Then I see three men climb back into the ship completely soaked.
"Katara!" I yell to get her attention. She sees the men and starts waving her arms in front of her and throws the water back behind her causing the water to freeze Sokka's feet. She try's again by turning around and does the same thing except she froze the three men. "Come on, Sokka!" He quickly freed himself from the ice and grabs Aangs staff. He quickly runs over and hops onto Appa.
"Yip yip! Yip yip!" Appa starts to fly off but then I look behind and see flames coming straight after us. Aang then grabs his staff and swigs it causing the flame to hit the side of a glacier and it lands right onto there boat. We laughed and cheered as we made our way up into the clouds. I took a deep breath and laid Down and let my legs dangle off the saddle.
"How did you do that with the water?!" Katara asks amazed. "It was the most amazing thing I've ever seen."
"I don't know. I just sort of did it."
"Why didn't you tell us you were the avatar?"
"Because, I never wanted to be."
"But Aang," I started as I turn my head towards his direction. "The world's been waiting for the avatar to return and finally put an end to this war."
"And how am I going to do that?"
"According to legend," Katara starts. "You need to first master water, then earth, then fire, right?"
"That's What the monks told me."
"Well, if we go to the North Pole, you can master waterbending." Aang face light up.
"We can learn it together!"
"And Sokka, I'm sure you'll get to knock some firebender heads on the way."
"I'd like that. I'd really like that."
"Aya, I'm sure you can work on your fire bending as well." I smiled as I look up at the sky.
"That'll be cool."
"Then we're in this together."
"All right," we all turn our attention to Aang. "But before I learn waterbending, we have some serious business to attend to." Aang jumps down and pulls out a map of the world. I rolled over onto my belly and rest my head on my hands. "Here, here and here."
"What's there?" I ask.
"Here we'll ride the hopping llamas. Then way over here we'll surf on the backs of giant Koi fish." We all stare at each other with confusion. "Then back here we'll ride the Hog monkeys. They don't like people riding them, but that's what makes it fun!" I just laugh and smile.
"Whatever you say, Aang."
