"That sounds like some high school talent show type of shit."
If Park Jimin could see what Jeon Jungkook was doing right now, he would definitely be thanking himself for finally listening to some advice for once.
Jungkook stood in front of where his three other band mates sat on the couch, extending out his arm so that they could read the poster he was shoving in their faces. He had just come back from the corner store just down the street, and had ripped the poster off the wall of the store as soon as he saw it.
"Yeah, 'battle of the bands'? Sounds kind of corny don't you think?" Seokjin raised his eyebrow, leaning forward to read some of the finer print of the piece of paper. Jungkook rolled his eyes, sighing heavily at the lack of enthusiasm he was getting from his friends.
"Why do you three always have a stick up your ass?" He huffed, pushing aside some of the clutter on their coffee table and setting the poster down. "Is it because of the finger callouses? Be honest."
Yoongi couldn't help but laugh, looking up to Jungkook with an uninterested gaze.
"It's just that we literally just had a gig, Kook." He sighed, rubbing his eyes tiredly. "And, we've got another one on Friday. We're gonna wear ourselves into the ground."
Jungkook rolled his eyes walking over to the couch and squishing Seokjin into Hoseok's side so that he could fit.
"Are you gonna be saying that when we're doing a coast to coast tour?" He retorted, watching as his fellow band mates all let out a collective sigh before shaking their heads. He nodded triumphantly, before pointing to some really fine print at the bottom of the event poster. "There's a thousand dollar cash prize for the winner of the competition, and there are going to be actual record label scouters in the crowd. I think we'd be kind of stupid to not at least try with the amount of exposure we'd get from this."
Seokjin hummed in approval, picking up the poster and scanning it. Jungkook watched as Yoongi and Hoseok leaned in as well so that they could get a closer look at the poster the oldest member was holding. "It's an 18+ event too, so you can take back that 'high school talent show' comment you made earlier." Jungkook added.
"It's only a couple of weeks from now." Yoongi commented, brushing a few bleach blond pieces of hair out of his eyes. "That's not really enough time not make something new... so we'll just have to do our best on the songs we have I suppose." He pulled the black and white flannel he was wearing further over his body, leaning forward to get a better view of a Jungkook from between the other two bodies on the couch.
"Well, there is that one song we're working on right now." Hoseok piped up, kicking his feet up on the table in front of them. "We've got a full instrumental for it but no lyrics, if we could get that done it would be really cool to debut it at the show."
Jungkook, Hoseok, and Seokjin all looked at Yoongi after this was mentioned, making the blonde haired man raise a suspicious eyebrow.
"What?" He laughed, standing up from the couch and brushing off his pants. "Don't look at me, I've already told you guys that I'm going through a bit of writer's block right now." He crossed his arms over his chest, looking back to his three friends. "There's a reason it doesn't have lyrics yet, and I think it would be best if we didn't rush it."
"You always say that Yoongi." Seokjin chuckled, running a hand through his brunette hair. "But sometimes deadlines exist, and if we're gonna make it big then I think we should start getting used to that."
Yoongi couldn't help but roll his eyes at their frontman's comment, crouching down to pick up a stray guitar pick from off of the carpet. His silence told the other members that he knew they were right, he was just battling with his own stubbornness as he protested.
"Fine. Kook, you can sign us up."

Of course, Taehyung and Namjoon had been ecstatic when Jimin brought up the idea of a music competition to them. Before he even had time to explain it fully, Taehyung was already scribbling down a haphazard set list into his journal, and Namjoon was on the phone trying to find a temporary guitarist.
He knew that they were going to be enthusiastic, considering it had been a few weeks since their last gig, but maybe he had underestimated just how motivated a thousand dollar cash price would make them.
This was the reason that he found himself inside of a bar at four pm on a Tuesday, writing his name down on the band sign up list that was posted in the entrance of the building.
It wasn't that he didn't want to be a part of the competition, in fact he was actually really grateful for the opportunity that was being given to him, it was just... Jungkook. Jimin was going through this plan with the idea that Jungkook's band was going to sign up as well, however this did cause a dilemma to form within his mind.
If Jungkook did sign up, then he was going to have to fight the distraction of the younger male throughout the whole competition. And if he didn't, well then Jimin knew his disappointment would be through the roof. He was doing this for his band, for the most part, to give them exposure and a foot in the door of the music industry. It would be a lie though, to say that a great deal of his motivation for this wasn't the hope of meeting Jungkook again.
Jimin hadn't gotten his phone number, and only got to see him when his band had a gig at his work. This could be a chance to actually get the ball rolling.
"Jimin?"
And roll, it did.
Jimin felt his heart drop down to his stomach as he turned around, his eyes being greeted by the sight of the person who had taken up residence in his mind.
"Jungkook, hi." He forced out, completely off guard and not prepared for the situation he was being thrust into. The younger male was standing in front of him in casual clothes - dark grey sweatpants and a loose black t-shirt. His hair was still as wildly blue as Jimin last remembered it, the vibrant strands peeking out from under the black knit beanie that sat atop his head.
He watched as Jungkook warm brown eyes flicked between the sign up sheet, and the pen in Jimin's hand. His eyes were filled with interest and curiosity, and Jimin couldn't help but cringe internally. It would have been so much cooler for Jungkook to see him actually play, as an introduction to his musical side.
"You weren't going to tell me that you're a musician?" He asked, reaching down as gently taking the pen out of Jimin's hand. He looked down to the sign up sheet, reading off the words Jimin wrote. "'Friday Blues'? Cool band name. I like it."
Jimin felt his face heat up in embarrassment, Jungkook gentle touch lingering on his hand once the other male pulled away.
"To be fair, we hardly know each other, so I think you can forgive me for not telling you." Jimin answered softly, watching as Jungkook's tattooed hand scrawled down his band's name on the sign up sheet. A smirk grew on the blue haired male's face as he took in Jimin's words, and he looked to the shorter male with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"Yeah, that's what I'm trying to change." He answered softly, his gentle words sending a shiver all the way down Jimin's spine. It seemed that Jungkook knew exactly which words would cause Jimin to fall harder and harder. It was dangerous, and exhilarating. "Come to my show on Friday. I'd like to see you there."
Jimin couldn't even hold back the surprised expression that took over his face, looking up to Jungkook with wide eyes.
"I've seen you play a bunch of times at my work." He answered, trying not to immediately jump on the offer that the younger male was giving him. He noticed Jungkook raise an eyebrow in confusion, before clarifying. "I'm a bartender at the bar on the corner of South Street. That's why I was there, that night."
A look of realization spread across Jungkook's face for a split second, before his signature sly smile tugged at his lips.
"Even more reason for you to come then, the gig's just a few doors down from your work. I'd like you to be in the crowd this time. Not stuck behind a counter." He answered, sticking his hands into the pockets of his sweatpants. "I think you might enjoy it more that way too."
Jimin felt his face heat up, and he had to break eye contact with Jungkook. His eyes told Jimin that he knew that each word he spoke was just making him more and more flustered. They also told Jimin another thing - that he was loving it.
"What if I don't come?" Jimin couldn't help but ask. Playing hard to get wasn't usually the way that he laid out his cards, but with Jungkook it just felt like he needed to. He wanted to give the younger male a hard time, because it seemed as if that wasn't something that happened to him often.
Jungkook laughed softly at Jimin's answer, breathing out a sigh before he leaned down slightly to be exactly at Jimin's eye level.
"Why wouldn't you? Trying to make me sad?" He asked sarcastically, and Jimin scoffed. God, he was so cocky. It should have been irritating, but it wasn't, because Jungkook wore confidence so well. To the point where the line between charisma and cockiness was becoming muddled.
"No, maybe I just have plans." He replied, looking to the side to avoid eye contact with the taller male. He didn't, and the way he tapped his fingers against the side of his leg nervously made that extremely clear.
Jungkook exhaled a soft laugh, before throwing his hands up in surrender and shaking his head.
"Okay." He chuckled, "If you can't come, then don't." He took a step forward, making Jimin's breath hitch at how much closer they had become. Jungkook leaned down once more, meeting Jimin's eyes when the shorter male finally took the bait and looked back to him. "But just know, I really wish you would."
The lack of space between them let a Jimin breathe in the scent of the younger male - cologne and cigarettes. Any other time it wouldn't have been appealing, but for some strange reason it was on him. It suited him, so perfectly matched to the visual aesthetic of the man in front of him.
Jimin wanted to lunge at him. Right there, in front of all of the workers and sparse midday patrons. He had never met somebody who was so magnetic. Every single thing he did - from the words that he spoke from the subtle advances that he made - just pulled Jimin in deeper.
He was going to go to Jungkook's show. He knew that he was going to the second that the blue haired male had asked.
But he wouldn't let Jungkook know that, it would only add fuel to his fire.
"If I can find the time, maybe I'll stop by."
